Sun Garden is one of my places to eat at in West Chester, OH. I always try to order from this quant family owned restaurant when I am in town. We ordered chicken noodle with vegetable, crab Rangoon, Beef and pepper, hot and sour soup, egg rolls, and Mao Pao Tofu. They remember to cook every dish except the Mao Pao Tofu. They did give us a credit for this dish though. It was disappointing but we understand the size of the order. All the dishes tasted super fresh with very little oil and a lot of robust flavors. Sun Garden has been our family spot to have lunch for several years. The service is personal because the restaurant is family owned and the whole family always seems to be there. Go there a few times and they already recognize you. You may do carry out or sit down in their quaint dining room. There is always tradition Chinese music playing to add ambiance. Every table has a table cloth. The server pours you water and offers you soup to start with. I recommend the wonton soup. the lunch specials are the best deals. With it you get the entree-a generous portion of your dish and rice, an egg roll or crab rangoon, and your choice of soup. The service is excellent. The food has generous portions, I always have extra to take home. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area. read more

tl;dr Good service, typical american chinese without the dirty oil taste. DELICIOUS and CHEAP. $6.50 for lunch? GIMME. Yes, okay, I was craving some dirty chinese food. But that is far from what I got. However, my cravings were satisfied. Growing up my mother often forbid me to eat this kind of chinese food because, "Bianca, oil dirty, they use same oil over and over again! You get cancer!" However, this dirty oil taste could not be detected at Sun Garden. There is no secret chinese menu, there is no duck, it's just the Americanized version we're all used to! But if you come to Sun garden expecting anything else, you would be confused about the variety of chinese restaurants out there, because there is more than one type. The service was extremely friendly, more than I'm used to in these types of places. I've been told this place is family owned (SUPPORT SMALL BUSINESSES). It's also very clean and modern looking, ALSO more than I'm used to in these types of places. Basically, it's the old stand by. Just a little cleaner, and a little better for you. Now I know why everyone has rated this place so highly! The hot and sour was not as flavorful. While the spice was there it was missing a well rounded taste (more meat broth maybe?). It tasted like spicy water. The crab rangoon was not as sweet, but it tasted fresh and was full of more crab than cheese. My egg foo young was so hot and fresh that it burned my mouth, but I couldn't stop eating it! I waited about 10 minutes for my food at the restaurant (A very good sign) and everything tasted fresh! read more

I have fond memories of Sun Garden. My mom was not much of a cook so when my dad would go out of town it was scrambled eggs and bagels, Little Caesar's pizza, or Sun Garden take out. Everything is delicious. It's not overly oily and it's ready within 15 minutes for pick up. Prices are normal. Big portions. Great staff. In this update, I am raising my review from 4 stars to 5 for a simple reason: My wife called this "The Best Chinese Takeout" she has ever had, including all the years she spent living in California. That's really something. The staff is consistently friendly. Service is consistently fast. The food is consistently fresh. Best of all? It's very clear that they do not take the easy way out with cooking like so many other Chinese restaurants by blindly applying sauces and salt to the point where the taste of individual ingredients become hopelessly lost. On my most recent trip, I ordered chicken stirfried with snow peas, sea food combination, and Yang Chow fried rice with chicken. Every single dish was very tasty and had minimal grease. The salt used was just the right amount to bring out the flavor of each ingredient without overwhelming them. As of now, I've tried probably a quarter of their menu. I am pleased to say that I have yet to have something that I don't like. Order with confidence! read more

Agree with most that recipes have significantly less grease than typical take out. Restaurant was clean and inviting. I got a spring roll, hot and sour soup, and Hunan chicken. Great portion on Hunan chicken and great flavor. Wished it was spicier as it was much more sweet than spicy. Hot and sour soup was disappointing. Mostly broth and again much more sweet than spicy. Ate here for the first time about 2 weeks ago. I have never plans of ever returning. The service was very attentive, but the food was not good. Well my egg roll was great, and the steamed rice was...steamy. The chicken with broccoli that I ordered was slimy. The chicken in my boyfriend' s cashew chicken was not fresh. Very good option for Chinese food in the West Chester area. I had the Yu Hsiang beef and it was excellent - sweet and spicy. Great value for Lunch, under $7. Very nice people. Corner of 747 and Smith Road South of the Kroger. You will not be disappointed. Lunch meals come with Soup, rice, fried chicken wing and crab Rangoon. I would like to start by saying I was at work and craving chinese food i looked on yelp to find one near my work so I could run out to lunch and I found sun garden. Upon walking in the establishment looks clean and nice. The lady was very nice and I placed my order after waiting 10 minutes or so my order came up. I was excited to dive into my lunch. I ordered fried rice and fried wantons, the wantons were doughy and tasted of grain almost like they were not cooked long enough. The rice was also very bland I even tried to use duck sauce on it to give it some flavor which did not work. I really feel bad as I love to give good reviews to local establishments I know they are important but the food I received today was sub par and not good at all. read more

Server was friendly, but service was poor. Waiting on drink refills and check for quite awhile. Ordered combination chicken with string beans and Szechuan chicken. Each included soup, egg roll, and rice for around $8. Hot and sour soup was ok, not the best I've ever had but not horrible. However the egg drop soup was a gelatinous eggy mess. Both chicken dishes were ok, not at all spicy as was indicated and the chicken was weird and inedible. Like it was pre prepared or just simply cheap product. The egg rolls were ok, at least they were hot but simply cabbage filled and lacked flavor. The crab Rangoon were good but not as hot as they should've been. Definitely will not be returning which is unfortunate since we only live down the street. read more
