Recently I am noticing significant improvements to this salon. Customer service has always been superb, but they are also really improving on the comfort and quality of tanning. You cannot beat the mystic tan here, I always get compliments on my tan because the mystic solution results are natural and not at all orange. They [hollywood tans] obviously strives to offer quality tanning. I have been a member since they first opened their doors in MDR- although at first I was a little unsatisfied, they proved to be the best in the area. Great prices, phenomenal customer service, and excellent tanning... I highly recommend the membership packages, unbeatable prices for the BEST mystic and UV beds. Great job guys! read more

I was a bit reluctant to try the Versa spray tan because I always thought any spray tan would look so fake and orange. But I finally tried it here and LOVED it! I am now addicted and go once a week. The staff is very helpful and actually the Versa was being worked on the other day when I went in so they offered a free custom spray tan to replace it. Well, that is amazing as well!. Really like the tan I'm developing here. It seemed like it was more expensive than the place I used for years, but when I looked at the pricing of the monthly plans and all the upgrade options they have it turns out it's a WAY better value. They have an excellent selection of clean booths too and great programs to get your color what you want - whether it's a UV or non-UV based tan. Music in the booths is perfect. Great staff, too. I love sun studio LA and tell all my friends to go! I've hated most tanning places in LA because I feel you get ripped off for not really knowing what you're signing up for and for low quality beds. I came in looking for different options and Ashton explained every option to me and helped me with the package that was perfect for what I needed. Ashton told me which beds would work best for me. Even when I go in still she helps me choose a bed! Also have to say their sprays are better than I've gotten in the past. Ashton sprayed me for an event and it was not streaking at all and lasted! Although I like the color I get from their spray tans, they tend to open late, their Versa machine is on its last legs and today they totally wasted my time by refusing me access to use one of my PRE PAID sessions because of an accounting error on their end. So I had to waste even more time going thru bank records to prove that I'm paid up and still have 5 sessions left. This isn't the first time they've messed up my account and now I'm waiting to hear how this is going to be resolved. read more

This place is BEST. I'm living in LA for 4 months, and was a tad nervous about going to a new salon, as I'm so used to to Hollywood Tans in San Diego. I couldn't be happier- the salon is gorg, they have everything you need, and i can't even begin to tell you how helpful and sweet the staff is there. You can tell they honestly take ownership in the place, and care that their customer has a good experience. I am going to be super bummed when i have to move back and can't come here! I was content with this studio until I got pregnant and it came time per Doctors orders to cancel my membership. I was told I could cancel anytime and it would be no problem. The front desk rep told me to email the owner and he'd have my account cancelled right away. I hadn't used this in weeks and I asked the owner to cancel my membership on the 1st of the month. My card was charged and he refused to credit it back, even though I hadn't use this in weeks prior nor did I intend to use it that month since I reminded him it was for medical reasons !!! It's been an ongoing battle. Beware of this before you sign up. It's completely ridiculous and has been a waste of time and added stress to a pregnant woman, so rude. The level of service on this is horrific, and I even had to call my bank and have them step in to help. I did not authorize them to bill me for a month I will not be using their services. All my extended family will also be cancelling and not going back here as well. Just overall bad business. Over like $54 too, so petty of them. read more

Called the MDR location as the services section indicated a $25 spray tan. I spoke with Mary who was extremely professional and helpful. Unfortunately, the prices noted were for new customers. However, because she went out of her way to assist me, she actually found a spray tan still available on my account. I must have purchased a package and forgot about the remaining credit. Mary also explained another way I could upgrade using an existing credit for a tanning bed which I never use. I love this tanning salon I had a membership with them for about 3 years now. They have amazing beds both lay downs and stand ups. They also had a versa spa that makes your skin color turn out amazing . They also offer the best airbrushing services. Customer service is always great and they are very polite. My favorite person working there is Ashton Goldberg, she does amazing airbrush spray and I love her work. She is also the manager, very polite always helpful , she is like my best friend . One time I somebody had stole my lotion she even offered me a replacement bottle for free. Although this tanning salon has one bad part there is another manager named Chase, he is very rude and disrespectful, always yells and when you call he answers the phone like " WHAT DO YOU WANT". Horrible attitude. Once he was airbrushing me he even made rude comments about my breast which I thought was very inconsiderate and rude !!! Don't sign a contract here! They say you can freeze for up to four months, so I went in to freeze my account. I thought I was freezing it for four months, which I called to verify and they said yes, it was frozen for four months. Then come the beginning of the fourth month, they charged me $140 on my credit card. When I called the office, the person who answered told me that she couldn't figure out why they had charged me since it was frozen for four months. She told me I had to wait two weeks to get an answer since her manager was on vacation, but that she would take a message and have her call me back. Shockingly, no one called me back. Then I called and spoke with the manager and she said that I had only frozen it for three months and "legally" they couldn't refund my money, which is a bunch of crap! She said she would talk to her supervisor and call me right back. Again, she never did. So I called again. Still the same ridiculous excuse....legally we can't refund your money. I had dealt with a couple other people here that were nothing but rude...calling me over and over again threatening to take me to collections because I owed them $5.00!!!! Yes, that's right, $5.00...because they didn't charge the right card during my freeze. Ridiculous!! Don't waste your money here. I only give them 1 star since their facility is nice, but they don't have a clue on how to run a business. read more

When a business has great customer service and friendly people working there, even if the product is not good you will not leave mad. But that is not the situation here because their product is really good and they have the great customer service I'm talking about. The girls who work at the front desk when you enter are so friendly and sweet and they seem genuine which is nice. A couple times I was asking about the different tans and the girl was very knowledgeable and helpful. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because a couple times when I was in there (the tanning spray both thing) I could not figure out how to start it. I was looking at the pictures that explain it but it did not look like the equipment in front of me. Anyhow, nobody came by to ask how everything was or if I have any questions and you could hear that I was in there and it was not turned on for a while. I finally figured it out but it would have nice if someone would have come around sooner to help me. It's also clean and they have blow dryers and wipes to clean your face and all that good stuff to clean you up. It's the really friendly staff here that leaves a great impression with me and makes me smile which makes my fresh tan look even better! read more

I grew up as sort of a tanning junky, but to be honest, with all the bad press on tanning recently, I've stopped going since my wedding. However, I'm sick of being pasty white, this is socal after all. Been going to Sunset Tans for a few years and always have had great experiences, but hate that it's not close to my house since I moved to MDR. Well, went for a tan fix last night at Hollywood Tans and ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! The girls were FANTASTIC. I mean seriously - I usually run into the typical girls that don't have a clue or are super snooty, and these girls knew their stuff and love their jobs. The beds are state-of-the art, they have the latest mystic technologies and fantastic monthly membership packages. She even let me tan free to give it a try and I'll tell you what, I cannot wait to go back. I will be signing up for a membership tonight and am excited to get my glow back. Skip the other local tanning salons and check out Hollywood Tans. They are the best and this is one of the better retail experiences I've had in a while. Keep up the good work, ladies! read more

I've tried Sun Studio twice now. Nice, clean place, high tech, friendly staff. I came for the air brush tan service from a coupon. Good price on the coupon, but as far as air brush tans go, I've definitely experienced better. I think different places use different solutions and you have to find the right solution and color for your skin. Not to mention the technician has to be skilled and the machine they use makes a difference. I did all the prep before each session as recommended and still came out blotchy the next day, more like fine little speckles from the airbrush gun spray. It seems I've figured out that the airbrush gun consistently leaves speckles on my skin as opposed to the Infinity spray gun, which looks more like a hair dryer type of gun. The first time, three weeks later, still had spots I couldn't exfoliate off. I go around the city trying different places through coupons (thank God, or I'd go broke!) and I think still the best with color, solution, machine and technician is ISLAND TAN, my FAV. Queen Bee Salon in Culver City is second! Still have other salons to try though! The ONE good thing is that Sun Studio now sprays on lotion on your feet and hands, which makes a better difference and less messy. But I still had concentration color on the rough patches on ankles lower feet, but not as bad as without the lotion spray. read more

I gave Hollywood Tans only 4 stars because although I think the services provided there are superb, I find that the prices are waayy too high! I understand that they are trying to get you to do the monthly deals when you go in there, but I would prefer if they also offered weakly tanning passes, because sometimes a week of tanning is all you need, without having to pay for a months worth. Although the prices are high, I find that the employees are very friendly and professional and that the stand up beds are great! Hollywood Tans seems very well maintained and I always feel it is a sanitary place, which is an important aspect of tanning. Overall, I love Hollywood Tans and would highly recommend them, even though the prices are steep. read more

I went to this place for the first time because it had good reviews. The place was clean and welcoming. I went in and asked if I could use the yelp deal of the free level 3 bed. The guy at the front scoffed at me, rolled his eyes, and said that deal was for people without money like people who use groupon... ( which I also use) I should have left then but just needed a base tan for a trip and decided to look past his judgmental attitude. I ended up buying a package of 5 for the most expensive bed (with a free 6th tan) because he told me any other bed would leave me red and was for people with acne (didn't make much sense since I have an olive complexion and tan really easily. I never burn, but at that point he was being so friendly and convincing I decided to just spend the extra money on the "better" bed) The first time in the stand up bed was great. Super hot but it was 8 minutes and totally bearable. The next time I used the same bed and was left completely blotchy and covered in spots. For 4 days. So much for paying the extra money. I took pictures to show them because this has never happened and I followed the recommended time. I don't even want to finish my tan package which I paid a lot of money for (almost 200 with tax) because the quality and attitude of this place is not one I feel comfortable with. I would definitely try another place next time and wish I could get my money back!! read more

I went there and was very excited cause I could have a nice tan that would look natural. The manager guaranteed me I would have a natural looking tan. First of all I have to admit that I did not wash within 24 hours, but I was not told that my tan would be orange if I failed to shower within that time. Also I was told the longer I left it on the better. So... I was very orange the next day with spotty legs between whit and orange. I did sign a contract for 3 months at that time and bought several products. I never went back again to tan or be sprayed, after the three months I asked them to take the charge off for the 4th month which I did not remember that I had to call and cancel. After speaking with the manager she would not take these charges off and keep telling me the things I already knew. It is just simply unethical to realize that someone was not happy with their service and did not use their service for the months paid for and still refuses t o reimburse the money taken from a person. I think that would be the definition of stealing! read more
