I haven't taken our order of Mabo Ramen too hungry and just before closing. It was the most delicious outstanding my first ever meal of Mabo tofu ramen I ever had! The volume of their food I couldn't eat at all so they kindly pact it to go. Their gyoza juicy and cooked perfectly well, hand made pieces were amazing size. I believe they opened few months ago. Their unique menu one must go and try their generous portion of their food. If I heard right they were once in 99 Ranch Moanalua with a different name. Since we were at salt lake shopping center doing our hair at Lamour Salon the hair dresser said did we try sun sun ramen located 3 doors down. I said no she said they just opened on aug 8 and its pretty good. So when my husband and I was done we want to check it out and it was lunch hour also. I said i'll have gyoza curry rice and he had mabo tofu ramen. Both was good. We take out from Sun Sun Ramen on a regular basis. They have a good selection of tasty food at good prices. One evening they forgot to include our gyoza and were very apologetic when we call to tell them and they promised to make it up to us on our next order. A couple weeks later they remembered their mistake and gave us our order of gyoza plus a couple extra at no cost. I'd say it's customer service. They're also very fast and we can place our order and it's usually waiting for us a few minutes later when we arrive. It's a nice little restaurant in Salt Lake shopping center and they're one of the few establishments there that still honor the shopping centers discount card. Ate here on New Year's Day during a layover. This was a lovely small business that makes Japanese ramen and katsu but with a little twist of Chinese influence. The portions are HUGE and you really get the bang for your buck here. Service was quick and waitress was so kind and lovely. I ordered Mabo Ramen and my husband got the Katsu curry. The gyoza was pretty standard - good chew on the skins, typical filling, tasty and cooked well. The ramen was good. The broth was a bit on the sweet side, partly due to the toppings. It included corn, bean sprouts, seaweed, onions, a slice of fish cake, 2 pieces of chashu, and a half of a seasoned egg. The ramen noodles were the standard and had a good chew. They give you a large glass of water, but the broth was good and not overly salty so I only drank a little over half. read more

Placed a take out order and was ready immediately for pick up. The ramen broth was so yummy and the mochicko chicken was delicious.

Hopped on Yelp to get ideas of where I wanted to eat and saw that there was a new restaurant in our area and wanted to try it out! We dined in around noon on the weekend and got seated right away with menus and waters. Staff is super friendly and attentive. We ordered the takoyaki (6 pieces) for appetizer and a mini mochiko chicken curry and mini oyster fry (3 pieces) curry. My bf ended up finishing his curry before the rice and chicken and when they noticed, they asked if we wanted more curry to top off! He declined only because we were getting pretty full. The takoyaki was crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside and came with a tangy and slightly spicy dipping sauce. The curry was pretty standard but went well with both my oysters and bf's mochiko chicken. You don't have to drive out too far for cheap and quality eats now that this place is open! Kids wanted to try this place when they first saw the sign go up. My daughter wanted to treat the family with her first paycheck so family dinner at Sun Sun. On food alone, I would have gone with a 3. Only because the flavors weren't as good as other ramen places. The shoyu base broth was ok. The spicy beef ramen was not what we expected it to taste like. Not bad, but not awesome. The curry was good as well, but lacked the sweet and spice that I like in my Japanese curry. I didn't actually know this place had opened until late last month, but even though I missed their grand opening shakedown run, I managed to find an opportunity to make it to Sunsun soon after. I will compare them to the other ramen place in the area of the same quality ranking: Ramen-ya. The establishment is similar in size to other eating spots in the shopping center, with tables along the wall and nothing in the middle of the room, allowing easy access to seating, child strollers, and takeout ordering. As I am seated and handed a menu, I have to immediately note that prices are lower than Ramen-ya's menu on average, and they have pretty much all of the staple ramen favorites in Hawaii, including all manner of curry ramen and meat combinations. Compare to Ramen-ya, where I was told that I could not order chicken katsu with a curry ramen without extra charge. In addition, their also reasonably priced combos come with either a small fried rice for the ramen entrees, or a mini ramen for the rice entrees, plus the ol gyoza standby. Already looking promising, but since I'm here to sample the broth, I just get a basic garlic tonkotsu ramen. (I didn't want to come here twice to taste the standard without garlic oil, and I think I'm pretty good at separating flavors for evaluation with my palate.) - Average amount of toppings, but good variety, and plenty of corn which my sister is sure to love - Charsiu nice and tender, good ajitama - The pork broth beats Ramen-ya's thinner broth, I would rate this one the platonic middle standard of pork broths, not richer than the high end but quite balanced for the dish - Just enough garlic oil, which I appreciate because some places use too much - No surprises here, just Sun brand noodles Overall, a nice lunch at a hard to beat price of 12.50. I rate this "Better than Ramen-ya" five stars for meeting my expectations. Couple of notes: they use the cheapo small chopsticks, but at this price I would probably stick my face in the bowl if I had to, and I noticed they have Arizona green tea here if you are into that. read more

Sun sun ramen recently opened in 2022 near the salt lake Safeway on ala lilikoi st. It is one of two ramen places in the area. The curry is good in flavor but lacking in the quantity of vegetables and chicken. The koroke is the best thing I've tried here. Their ramen is okay. Their portions are somewhat generous. The flavor of the dashi soup in their ramen is lacking a bit, even though they seem to use MSG (mono sodium glutamate) in just about everything. The service and staff are good. I was sad when Sumo Ramen at Moanalua 99 closed and searched for someplace similar nearby. I got the katsu curry and gyoza. I called in my order and it was ready very quickly. There was a good amount of food and everything was yummy. The only thing was the filling of the gyoza seemed like mostly just cabbage. Also the curry had lots of onions and no other vegetables. I enjoy the food here. It's not the best but it's definitely quite decent. I want to say 3.5 stars instead of just 3 stars as the only reason I'm not giving it more is that the price increases made it slightly less convenient for me.
