It was our first time eating at this place and we loved it! We ordered food that you should typically order at a tavern. We first ordered buffalo wings that were perfectly cooked to a crisp and the hot buffalo sauce was very tasty. We then ordered a whole buffalo chicken pizza pie and a half pepperoni, half veggie pizza pie which were also perfectly cooked to a crisp. The pizza's alright. Oddly, I preferred the penne vodka I had. The beer selection is pretty good. The staff is super friendly but quite often too busy for their own good to the point where you're trying to flag them down. It's a nice spot but gets super crowded real quick since it seems to be the neighborhood joint and has a nice large parking lot, that also fills up. They do have a nice outdoor seating area for the warm days. read more

First time visit. It is very loud but that might be due to how busy it was! This seems to be a popular local place. It is dated but provides for a relaxing atmosphere. The crowd seemed to range from 30's to 60's which is precisely what I was looking for. Good mix of music. The entryway was strange (see pictures) and did not match what you would expect -dirty with an old phone booth stacked with boxes and a filthy gumball machine. Super weird. The bar area was a decent size and seemed pretty clean. 1 of the 2 bar tenders was working hard. The other was too busy socializing. The food was average. Haven't been here in years decided to stop in as we were driving by. Used to be good and they were known for their pizza but now everything is terrible. Pizza had zero flavor. Appetizers that are fried like mozzarella sticks, fried mushrooms, chicken fingers etc all were over cooked and tasted like they were cooked in old oil. Ordered steak fries and they were undercooked. It's like they don't know how long to cook anything in the fryer. If you want a great bar pie you are better off going across the street to frenchy's. Food not good and building and seating are just as bad. Everything is way old and needs A make over. Dirty, stained unmatched chairs, old sticky table and just about everything inside is old, dirty and looks like it's falling apart. When I go to a restaurant I don't want to see missing and dirty ceiling tiles. I don't want dirty dusty lights hanging over my table and definitely don't want sticky old tables to eat on. Place should close down, remodel, rename and get a whole new menu and chef. All that to not like and it was also overpriced. The only reason I'm giving it 2 stars instead of 1 is the staff. Sun Tavern is not my exact standard for pizza, but it's darn good in its own way and I always enjoy it. My wife likes the white pizza with fresh garlic, so we always get one of those and one tomato sauce pie with sausage and mushrooms or sausage and peppers. Where do I start?....went for Mother's Day. Numerous gnats flying around the table, had to ask for the table to be wiped (it was sticky), had to ask for clean silverware and dishes. This has been my first and last time at Sun Tavern. I was invited for Mother's Day and will have nightmares to last a lifetime. I ordered a white ricotta pizza and salad. The salad came out brown and flat, the pizza looked and tasted like it came from the frozen foods section. Barely any cheese at all and COLD. The best part was the Stella on tap. Let's talk about the fried calamari leftover from the week before and tasted like rubber bands and the tomato sauce was watery. This place looks semi-decent when you're​ inside but step into the bathroom and it will show you the type of establishment this place truly is. I mean if you're generating that much income serving liquor (which you are) you have more than enough positive cash flow to fix a huge leak in the ceiling (just look at the pics) Food: I tried their Margarita Pizza (Pizza is what this place is "known" for) and it makes the cheap microwavable pizza look like top notch gourmet pizza. One giant slice of tomato and mozzarella on top, pizza was bland and wet, yes I did say WET as in beyond soggy. Beer: The worst beer selection I've witnessed. I'm an IPA fan and two bottled choices they had Yards IPA and Sam Adams Rebel IPA (which is probably the worst IPA I've ever tasted). And the one draft beer they had... You can probably guess this one because everyone has this on tap Goose IPA. Service: Non existent. The bar was pretty empty but the bartenders were nowhere to be found and when they are behind the bar they won't even make eye contact. Here's the bottom line. I've been a fan of the Sun Tavern chain for years. I started to go to the Roselle Park location last year in the fall for Foobtall Sundays. If you're a Steelers fan, this is a great spot to catch the game there is a big group of dedicated fans that go every week, my family members included. The food is always good, their bar pies are always delicious. I'm a fan of their appetizers like the fried raviolis and zucchini sticks. There is an outside area for seating as well as a restaurant and bar area so you can find a quieter or more up beat atmosphere depending on what you're looking for. The staff and bar tenders are always nice. T\here is plenty of parking in the lot and it is easily accessible from the parkway. read more

EDIT: Finally went back for the pizza special on Tuesday, and the pizza was delicious. Would recommend asking for well done if you like your pizza crispier. This was my first time coming and my boyfriends second time. We sat at the outside bar and it was a great environment. It is laid back and the staff is kind. I ordered the lobster ravioli in vodka sauce special for $15.95 and was blown away. Typically this meal is ~$25 at a restaurant and is not as good as what I ate here. The vodka sauce was tasty, the ravioli was perfectly cooked and there was a generous amount of lobster in the ravioli. It came with a side of garlic bread that was delicious. My boyfriend typically goes on Tuesday's for the pizza special and he rates the plain pizza a 6 out of 10 (we are pretty hard pizza critics.) I am going to go back on Tuesday to give it a shot. Highly recommend if you are looking for a good bar spot. read more

One of the best pizzas I've ever had has been here! I ordered the old world pizza to share with friends- which has olive oil, garlic, mozzarella, black pepper and you can choose tomato or vodka sauce (CHOOSE THE VODKA)!!! The pie sounded so simple but was so fresh and delicious! We also ordered the sun tavern sampler which was a great portion to share for 3 people. Chicken was...I cannot even put it in words but they did remove it from the bill. Place is a little dark, loud on some nights, tons of tv's, friendly staff, large dinning area/bar and gets busy but not too busy. Plenty of parking and conveniently located off the parkway. Both thin crusted and delicious from the cheese to the sauce, to each topping and dish/app.. you cannot go wrong with Sun. Lets not forget to mention, they are hooked up with delivery services, so if you dont want to leave out and looking for a good pie and order of stix, they will be available to order from.. late too. I ordered at 1030pm midweek! And when it arrived, the pie was still fresh like i was dining there! First time at this Tavern and found it to be cozy and a locals hangout with a subtle Irish flair. They play host to various bands and have an excellent outdoor dining capability in warmer weather. Parking could be troublesome on a busy night. Ordered a couple thin crust pies, Sausage and Artichoke, as advertised thin crispy crust. Enjoyed a Garlic Shrimp appetizer that was a good starter and shared with two of us which was a good thing since I ate one pie myself. Fortunate to also see a Irish band that made the meal all that more enjoyable. Staff was attentive and kept the beer coming which can be troublesome in other places when a refill is sorely needed. The food is ok. There isn't much flavor in the food at all, but for the price it makes sense. We went to meet our friends that were already there, they already had placed their order. The waiter took at least 10 mins to notice we had sat down. When she finally came to the table I asked for a menu and she replied back "I'm going to get your drinks first, so what do you want." ... I asked about sangria and how much a pitcher was and she gave me an attitude and started " welllll , its expensive.. $25" :: pause:: I had to look away from her. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I felt like she was judging us and basically saying we couldn't afford it. ANYWAYS! she left to go place the drink order.... at the host stand, where the menus were. I guess it was hard to pick up 2 menus and walk it over because we never received it after 10 mins of her taking out drink order! I had to walk up myself and get it. Another 10 mins went by and we still hadn't received out drinks, nor did she come ask what we wanted. I walked over to the host stand and asked a random waiter to put in our order, as I was doing that our waiter magically popped up and asked me if I wanted her to put our order in. My response " obviously not if I got someone else to do it." then she yanked the menus out of my hand and walked off mad. She took at least 20 mins to visit our table, and when she came she basically came asked if we were ok, and left without us even responding. Honestly, the nicest person was the bus boy that told us to have a goodnight!! I wish I got her name because I would not have a problem putting it up here!!! This place is good enough but I wouldn't call it phenomenal. They're known for their pizza but I think their pizza is good but not great. I have never left feeling like my experience was worth a review but I've been here several times already I thought I should finally say something. Tonight I ordered a traditional burger, medium rare with no fries, just steamed vegetables. I did not have high expectations especially since they didn't have many options for burgers. The burger was cooked to my liking and looked and tasted homemade and not just prepackaged and microwaved. Steamed vegetables are just that steamed with no seasoning, which is fine because that is what I ordered. The burger was decent so I would ordered it again from here. read more

Old. World. Pizza. You've never put anything that glorious in your mouth hole. If you love yourself add vodka sauce. Such garlicy cheesy goodness in each thin slice. Guilt no longer exists. I've only had their apps which are extremely average pub fare and their beers which they do rotate a few seasonal brews. Always cold beers on tap so I cant complain. I come here soley for their pizza cuz its just that awesome. Light, yet filling and reasonably priced. I used to live by here and frequented as there weren't many pubs up Westfield Ave coming from Elizabeth. Outside is where its at. Gorgeous brick patio. New iron patio furniture is much more comfortable than the old plastic lawn chairs/tables they once had. Every so often the train passes and it just adds to the outdoor feel. Otherwise the inside is your standard bar with separate dining area and plethora of sports on the tvs surrounding the bar. No roudy patrons. Decent service. However there is never really a hostess? Regardless, directly off the parkway makes it a easy drive. Thank goodness for said pizza and patio making it otherwise this place would be your average joint. read more

This place is pretty good. Nothing to rave about but a reliable place to go to if you want good food especially late at nigh since they are open until 2am. I came here about a week ago just for drinks and appetizers. I had a specialty cocktail which consisted of lemonade with titos vodka and my friend had captain morgan and sprite. The drinks were tasty and strong and the appetizers were super tasty. They have something called broccoli bites"" which are pieces of broccoli and cheese deep fried into bitesized pieces. they were my favorite. I really like this place. I've come here for lunch a few times, so today I tried dinner with the wife and kid. They have high hairs, the place is so big that everyone is seated a decent distance from each other. Nice and quiet. There's always space at the bar. The bar is really long and fully stocked, they have a nice music machine. The waitress was quick, stopped by just the right amount of times. The daily specials are freshly made. The meatloaf is fresh and delicious. Te mashed potatoes were obviously fresh. Gravy tasted good. This is a place where you have food left over. But that's a good thing. Take it home. You'll want to. We noticed the floors were really clean, lots of parking. Kid friendly. Spaghetti was cooked perfectly, the meatballs tasted good and were nice and soft.
