This is strictly for the service. We came in Wednesday afternoon for some pizza. Our server was an older lady probably around 50ish with darkish hair. Half up half down. The place wasn't busy....and she took forever to fill our drinks!!! She forgot one drink and took probably a total of 30 minutes to bring it out..after that anytime she saw an empty cup she NEVER refilled it. We had to ask multiple times and she had an attitude each time we asked. The food here is great but honestly was so disappointed in the service. read more

Sun Tavern seriously has the best thin crust pizza in the area. They have been at this location for years and years and years, and they always have had the best thin crust. I take my kids here, we sit at a table in the loud bar area, get some pizza, a chicken wrap, a beer and all is well with the world. Love the place. read more

Old. World. Pizza. You've never put anything that glorious in your mouth hole. If you love yourself add vodka sauce. Such garlicy cheesy goodness in each thin slice. Guilt no longer exists. I've only had their apps which are extremely average pub fare and their beers which they do rotate a few seasonal brews. Always cold beers on tap so I cant complain. I come here soley for their pizza cuz its just that awesome. Light, yet filling and reasonably priced. I used to live by here and frequented as there weren't many pubs up Westfield Ave coming from Elizabeth. Outside is where its at. Gorgeous brick patio. New iron patio furniture is much more comfortable than the old plastic lawn chairs/tables they once had. Every so often the train passes and it just adds to the outdoor feel. Otherwise the inside is your standard bar with separate dining area and plethora of sports on the tvs surrounding the bar. No roudy patrons. Decent service. However there is never really a hostess? Regardless, directly off the parkway makes it a easy drive. Thank goodness for said pizza and patio making it otherwise this place would be your average joint. read more

I really like this place. I've come here for lunch a few times, so today I tried dinner with the wife and kid. They have high hairs, the place is so big that everyone is seated a decent distance from each other. Nice and quiet. There's always space at the bar. The bar is really long and fully stocked, they have a nice music machine. The waitress was quick, stopped by just the right amount of times. The daily specials are freshly made. The meatloaf is fresh and delicious. Te mashed potatoes were obviously fresh. Gravy tasted good. This is a place where you have food left over. But that's a good thing. Take it home. You'll want to. We noticed the floors were really clean, lots of parking. Kid friendly. Spaghetti was cooked perfectly, the meatballs tasted good and were nice and soft. The cheesecake was good, nice vanilla iced cream. No complaints here. read more

Yet another stumbling distance bar/restaurant for me to add to the list. Sun Tavern is a place I like to go in the summer, because their deck seating is marvelous. I always feel a little confused when I walk in to Sun Tavern, because they never seem to have a hostess on the ready, but it could also be because I like to go out to eat during 'non-normal' hours. I'm an early bird special kind of girl, hit it and quit it before the dinner rush arrives. There's nothing truly special about Sun Tavern. I hear their prime rib is good, but other than that, it's your standard bar food upscaled to restaurant quality. People seem to like their pizzas, they're thin crust and pretty good. If this place wasn't walking distance, I'm not sure how often I'd come here. read more

Really bummed that this place wasn't better. We were ready to give it a chance, however food was really poor quality. We had chicken tenders that were swimming in buffalo sauce and blue cheese dressing straight out of a jar. And a cheese steak with SteakUm's....so bad. The Pizza is the best! Super thin crust. Try the old world pizza with sauce, and one of the best pizzas they have is not on the menu...but if you ask for it they will make it. Its called Chicken with vodka sauce pizza and trust me, you will love it. Not alot of drink specials but the Bartenders are great! The night life at this sun tavern really is not that great, most of the nights are kind of slow. Fridays and Saturdays are a hit or miss, you really can never tell. The Fanwood Sun Tavern has a much young crowd and seems to be a better place to find more people at the bar. read more

Sun tavern is cute and homey. It's definitely worth coming here for a bite if you're in the Roselle/Linden area. They serve food until 2 am which is a plus! Calamari is awesome (recommend the sweet marinara instead of the hot, but they'll bring out both if you ask. Chicken tenders are crispy. Burger was good, not great, but definitely good (and it came with super curly curly-fries). Philly cheese steak is awesome! read more

I have been to Sun Tavern a handful of times. The food is good but I usually order the same thing because it's the only place in the area that has them - Loaded Nachos. I like going to Sun Tavern in the warmer weather to sit outside. Service is OK but can be slow if it's really busy (weekend). read more

Been a looooong time since the sun shone here. This could get dive bar classification because of the dated decor and fabulous people watching. Happy hour $2.50 off all pints till 7. There looks to be outdoor seating in the summer and an outdoor bar. Bathrooms are dirty. Food is good for bar food. The Bar is clean and set up well. Ordered Clams on the 1/2. Excellent! I'm from the Sandy Hook area and I know clams. These were fresh and shucked as they should be. Ordered an nice sandwich on flat bread, chicken, fresh Mozz, Basil, Tomato. Sorry, but I forget the name of it.. Outstanding. !!! Prices were moderate for drinks and food. All and all; a great stop. I love this spot ... been coming here for about 10 years, and if you want pub grub this is the spot for you. Good pizza (love the Old World with Sauce & Bacon), great wings ... the burgers are good (try the Jersey Burger with taylor ham on it), and so are the potato skins (bacon under the cheese = genius). Really good service here too - all of the bartenders are nice, and if you order takeout, it's ready to go when you arrive. They could benefit by updating their TV's - but overall it's a great spot to grab a drink and some good eats. read more

This is another one of those places that, according to many, was so much better long ago. But, I wasn't there long ago. I can just comment about today. And today was mighty tasty. We were the first ones in the door for lunch. We split a large pie, half sausage, half plain. Delicious. Thin crust done quite well. Do I wish the pie was larger, the sausage in chunks rather than crumbled and the red pepper flakes very spicy rather than flat? I do. The best thin crust pizza! The "Old World " with sauce is a garlicky pie that blows away any other pizza. Perfect! !!!!! Try the other pizzas, but be sure to include the Old World with sauce! The fried calamari is delicious. They give you hot and mild tomato sauces. I don't know how the rest of their food is because the PIZZA is that DELICIOUS. I've either bought two pizzas or one pizza and a side of calamari. So, go here for the Old World with garlic - it's the best! read more

I first want to get this out of the way.. "World's greatest pizza" I THINK NOT. I actually do not like their pizza at all. Honestly tastes like frozen pizza. Not good. We go here quite a bit. It is in walking distance from our house and the price is perfect. The new beer sampler is awesome and a nice touch in the bar. The weekends are a little busier especially on Fridays for happy hour which lasts all night, but the atmosphere is great. Everyone is always in a good mood at this place. Sundays during football season is awesome on the patio when the weather is nice and the tv is on. We have spent a few lazy afternoons on the patio in the summer sun, the waitress wasn't all that great, but the food was worth the wait. Order the pizza! read more

Disappointed with The Sun Tavern on our last visit here. We had gone a couple of times last summer and really liked it. We were in the area recently and thought we would go again. The service was great, the tables were far apart at a comfortable distance. The downer was the portion sizes of our meal this time around. I ordered a turkey burger. It was ALL roll. The patty was so skinny. And I think it cost $10 or $11 bucks. Hubby ordered the Philly cheesesteak. It was a bigger disappointment. Smallish roll and it looked like 2 pieces of thin "SteakUm" type of beef with a slice of cheese on top. So bummed. read more

Nothing fancy, but everything you will be looking for in your next new, favorite local watering hole. Huge food menu with amazing selection/ pizzas, great craft beer options, and plenty of weekly specials that won't leave you poor. Outdoor bar and seating for nice weather. After last night's visit, I decided I will not return unless I am with a group (i.e. meeting after work), the pizza is good but the thin crust pizza is smaller than a regular large pie and the same price - two people can easily have two pies & I the ceasar salad was crap - generic dessing squarted out of ketchup/mustard dispaenser onto a bed of lettuce with stale croutons. The service is lousy! We had to ask for mutiple items, multiple times and still never got one of them (grated cheese). Could have more craft beer on tap. To add injury, the ceiling began leaking in multiple places during a thunderstorm during our visit. The more I think of, I don't want to go back, period. read more

me and my friends tried everything! 2 platters chicken fingers (didn't have) wings (they were ok. wasn't crazy about the sauce. kinda greasy) zucchini sticks (yum!) mozzarella sticks (yum!) potato skins (yum!) quesidilla (didn't have) jalapeno poppers (yum!) bruschetta (yum!) plain pizza (yum!) everything i had was very good. except the wings. i loved how well cooked everything was. i know its bar food but if it didn't taste good i just won't eat it. friendly waitress too! we def. had enough food to go around. there were 5 of us. it was great! we were able to substitute the fried mushrooms for the zucchini sticks. the fried ravioli was out so we got the poppers instead. very accommodating. read more

I've been coming here for over 25 years and this was the topper of all time. sat outside, beautiful saturday night. after we sat down the waitress came over after 20 minutes to take our order. it wasn't terribly busy. Ordered a 2 blackened chicken caesar salads and 2 pies. Immediately i knew she was a little slow due to her asking me what sauce i wanted in my pie???? old world is with or without sauce?? anyway.....needless to say our drinks were left empty, chicken caesar never came. The 2 pies came out so my husband got up himself to get salt pepper and cheese himself. seems she forgot that too. Horrible night there. What's wrong with sun tavern hiring waitresses that are completely clueless and want to blame the kitchen. Didn't offer anything to mitigate this crap show.
