Not only was last night the first time I've been to this restaurant, but it was the first time I've been to Westfield. The town and the restaurant were excellent! On a June Saturday night, there's outdoor dining all over and plenty of people. Friends of ours had previously dined at the Brick Oven and recommended it, so we met them there for dinner. It's a BYOB, which we always like. The service was very good. We had 2 waiters taking care of our table. They were attentive, but didn't rush us at all. We shared appetizers of garlic shrimp and portobello mushrooms, then split a couple of salads. The shrimp was very good, especially with bread to dip in the sauce. Our entrees ranged from balsamic chicken to my bracciole. The bracciole was very tender and delicious. We topped off the meal by splitting a tiramisu. If you're in Westfield looking for some good Italian food, I can recommend the Brick Oven!

BURNT .. then told me oh well deal with door dash! $32.00 for this !! They wouldn't even help me at all!

went for lunch and even though it was very busy we got our food in 10 minutes we immediately got served a big basket of red hot fresh baked rolls right out of the brick oven the lunch portion of my delicous spaghetti was huge big chunky homemade tomato sauce the thin perfectly crusty pizza had lots of fresh chopped mushrooms and artichoke hearts and thin rounds of eggplant soft mozzarella and just enough sauce once again fast and hot out of the brick oven on display in the back of the dining room we ate up the stairs that over looked the main dining room below , a lovely old fashioned atmosphere i can see why the brick oven has been in business same owners for over thirty years

This is the second time we've been here and the service is always great. The aesthetic is beautiful, dimly lit dining room which makes this the perfect intimate date night spot. We had Pizza alla Diavola, which was a pepperoni pizza. The pizza was the perfect amount of greasy with a thinner crust. We also ate a pasta special, which was homemade spicy pappardelle sautéed in a light marinara sauce with shrimp and little neck clams. The shrimp was cooked perfectly. I would definitely come back!

Came here before the opening of a new brewery a few blocks away, very good experience! Food: when a place serves a very good free basket of bread, you know it's a good start. I ended up going with the ravioli along with my friend and my wife got the salad. We were also given chicken barley soup that came complimentary which was good, albeit thin. The ravioli was amazing though and definitely led to a solid meal. Service: our service was very good and prompt, though there were not many people there which may be why. Aesthetic: typical Italian restaurant style, really like the two different levels of seating. Very clean!

Great outdoor seating and service. Some of the best eggplant parm I've had. Big menu and looking forward to going back.

My friend and I came across this place as we were walking through Westfield. Decided on this place due to their ample outdoor seating area. They didn't have umbrellas up, so I did get sunburned - but that's kinda my fault for not wearing sunscreen. Anyway, the food is good enough. Fairly good Italian. What you expect and nothing more. I had the Insalata Di Bistro E Penne, which had GREAT grilled chicken. Falls apart easily and is warm and juicy. Colorful salad that is great for a moderate sized lunch. Service was fine. Would I come back? Meh, won't go out of my way. But, like I said, good enough and lovely outdoor dining.

Why 4 stars? Price honestly. Pizza is great but only personal. Imagine my surprise when my total was over 50.00 for 4 small pizzas. I can't deny these aren't authentic Italian pizzas but for over 12.50 per pop, I wouldn't have ordered this for a Friday night in with the kids (kids I nanny). Another concern- The margarita pizza was mediocre. I was expecting big circles of fresh mozzarella cheese. What I got was honestly just a "plain" pizza. Which makes that 12.50+ burn a little more. So why 4 stars? The eggplant parmesan pizza. Oh my! Wow. A whole star for just one pizza. See my attached photos! The eggplant was sliced so thin and baked just the right amount. If was I wasn't watching the minions; this pizza fresh and hot with a bottle would be the perfect date night. Other things to note- they don't deliver, so you have to call a delivery service. Which the restaurant provided no hassle! The kitchen was running behind so it took longer then the estimated delivery time. The delivery service was great at updating me on the ETA of the pizza.

The Brick Oven is a small, intimate restaurant with a warm and cozy interior. The lighting sets the mood and the restaurant has an interesting multi-level dining area with one section being raised up. I really admire the unique layout. Complimentary bread came with the meal. It's perfectly fluffy and light so it won't fill you up too quickly before the main course. The pizza is phenomenal. The crust is perfectly thin. The sauce is light and sweet with good ratios to the fresh, greasy cheese. I really enjoyed the pizza. The staff was also quite friendly and attentive. I definitely recommend enjoying a pleasant dinner at this spot.

The ambiance was pleasant and there's an option to dine outdoors (not my preference, especially literally on the sidewalk). The service was wonderful, our server answered all of our questions, and made good suggestions. She was knowledgeable about the entire menu, which was great and useful. The food overall was mediocre. We began with Tomato Bruschetta as an appetizer and I must admit, I was pleasantly surprised by the flavors. It was delicious! The bread itself stole the show! I would not have ordered it, so I'm glad that my friend did. We also add the fried calamari, which was excellent. It was crispy and nicely coated. The marinara sauce was watery and flavorless, further proving why I am not a fan of it. However, I did dip my calamari in the mango & sweet chili vinaigrette... AMAZING combo! Then there's the Giuseppe Pizza, good but not great. Again, the bread and crust were the major flavor points. Not over or under done, just right. The chicken and arugula on top, nice touch. Lastly, the mango salad and an addition of shrimp. Overall, everything was just okay. I would not be in a hurry to go back, but we enjoyed our time. Keep in mind, there's an additional charge if you pay with a card. That seems to be the ridiculous trend these days with restaurants everywhere.

I picked it knowing the solid rep of Jessica's Cafe in Plainfield, so I can't say I was stunned to find out this was awesome - but given the expectations coming in, this probably even slightly exceeded them. Pretty cool. This was literally my first time in Fanwood, unless you count taking the Raritan Valley Line through here to Hunterdon County back in the day (I don't think it counts). The weather was a little iffy throughout the day, which I'm assuming played a factor in the town feeling a little desolate when we showed up. It reminds me a lot of the Newport neighborhood in JC - super, super gentrified. Maybe it's just the section where Jessica's is though, right across the street from the train station. We parked over there, not entirely sure if that was naughty or not, but given our outdoor seating, we easily could have peeped a cop or tow truck driver before anything terrible happened (I think it was fine, given it was a Sunday night). All that to say though, I'm not entirely sure where the ideal parking is if it's not at the train station. We were only in the restaurant for a minute (enough time to ogle a fridge or freezer of tasty looking meat to the right of the entrance), so I can't speak to the spiffiness of the interior. Even though rain was a possibility, it seemed worth the risk to stay outside due to the temps and large umbrellas. No regrets in that regard. We were seated promptly and ordered shortly thereafter, while also receiving some decent bread and butter with a bit of olive oil drizzle. Quite tasty. Somehow it's become an informal tradition, but if it's on the menu we usually get the Grilled Octopus. One of the better ones we've had. Nice and crispy (texture to me is the key to this one) and seasoned well. The accompanying potatoes were a nice touch to the proceedings - would totally get this again. A lot of the other apps looked good too, but someone accidentally made me birthday weenies on the grill earlier, so I couldn't get QUITE as frisky as I normally would. Both of us gave the lamb a long, hard look (and my chum wondered aloud about the ribeye special for the rest of the evening - possibly the one that got away) but I ultimately went with my classic Short Ribs entree. Delicious. Tender, flavorful and the perfect serving size. I was a little nervous that a puree versus mashed would mean the potatoes were too wet or liquidy, but not the case at all - they maintained their relatively solid integrity as far as I was concerned. I forgot to take a picture of dessert, but I got the Creme Brule. Also excellent, and at the perfect temp. I think there may have been a birthday musical accompaniment with that, but it's all a blur. Arguably just as good if not better was the service. Our waiter was super personable and professional, stopping by regularly and just added a hospitable touch to the meal that brought this to the upper echelon for me. Service is king, and it matters - you can't take for granted the ability of your server to essentially riff for two minutes on their menu knowledge, as well as just good-natured banter. Had that in spades. Coming back for sure - Womb Exit Anniversary or not.

It had been one of the hottest days in the past decade and we noticed upon walking in that the AC might not have been functioning correctly. It was a bit uncomfortable. That should have been our sign. With the entire restaurant at 25 percent capacity, the hostess decided to seat us right next to another couple. I could touch their table. After we placed our order, complimentary bread was provided. It was fresh and devoured quickly. We began our meal with the fried calamari. It was very good and seasoned nicely. No need for additional salt or pepper. Cooked fresh. Our entrees consisted of chicken murphy and baked ziti with eggplant. My chicken murphy was excellent and the portion was very generous. However, my wife received baked ziti with sausage. Did she send it back? She tried multiple times. We could not find our waiter and I refused to have her get up and track him down. The waiter never came back for the obligatory "How is everything?" "Can I get you anything else?" So, she picked the sausage out of the dish and just ate the baked ziti. When the waiter came back to ask if we wanted dessert, we told him about the mistake. The waiter came back and said they took 10% off the check. So, keep in mind the restaurant is very warm and a film of sweat has already started early on after we sat down. Wrong dish, poor service, and warm restaurant. When the waiter brought over our credit card receipt, he also brought over another customer's receipt and gave us both. I walked to a couple of other tables asking if it was their receipt since our waiter had walked away already. Lupa is located in a section of Berkely Heights that has seen a lot of recent construction, so it is very pretty and clean. You couldn't be blamed if you bypassed the restaurant. It is not very flashy looking and that is part of its charm. Be warned, there are not a lot of parking spaces behind the restaurant so you may wind up parking in the bank parking lot next to it (when the bank is closed of course). The staff at Lupa is super friendly and treats you like a regular even if this is your first time. The host was super nice, the waitress fantastic and the chef even came to our table to talk to us when we were done eating! The interior is very clean and modern looking. It's elegant and perfect for virtually any event including dates, anniversaries and family get togethers. We wound up sitting in the same area as the bar, which mostly has 2-4 seater tables and of course you can sit at the bar as well. The other side of the restaurant is where the larger tables are located. Here's a rundown of what we had: CLAMS ON TOAST Baby clams. crispy ham. thyme When I ordered this, I expected to see slices of toast with crispy ham and baby clams on top. Instead, it is two large pieces of wonderfully toasted bread with crispy ham on top. The actual clams sit in a *delicious* broth. Taken altogether these various components form a delicious bite. Be sure to dip that bread into the broth! SQUID INK SPAGHETTI lobster knuckles and claws. broccoli florets. grape tomatoes. Sherry Cream Sauce This dish has a wonderfully deep and earthy flavor. I've had squid ink pasta before and this was a wonderful example of it. The sauce was perfect and it was cooked beautifully. HANGER STEAK Truffled pomme frites. Chimichurri The steak was beautifully cooked (we had it medium rare) and the chimichurri sauce was great. However, the steak needed a bit more salt (and I'm not usually one to add salt to food). The pomme frites were wonderfully crispy and tasty. BROCCOLI RABE lemon. Kilos Broccoli rabe is a simple side dish but it is one of my favorites. It is also one that can easily be overcooked. These folks cooked it perfectly and it made for a fantastic side dish. My party and I loved our experience at Lupa and we all agreed we would happily return any time!
