I asked about getting AC checked in my 99 Corolla and was told just bring it in by 7 AM. I asked for an oil change, at the time of drop off. Was called by 10:30 on the issue, sounded like a decent enough charge, so give them the go ahead. The repair was done by 3 PM. They were complimented on the next-door app as a great place to go. Blown away by my experience with this place. Sad that they couldn't understand why I didn't trust them with my car again. This all started when i dropped my car off for an oil change and found three days later that the oil cap was left off. There was a mess of engine oil throughout my engine bay. The customer service was rather appalling. I will say they gave me my money back for my oil change and $50 additional to cover the cost of the oil I had to beg my client to take me to get just so I could make it home safely. They did also state that they would clean the engine bay for me, but after the missing oil cap and the horrible customer service there was no way they were touching my car again. Now when I showed them the picture of my car yes, they saw what was missing. However, I was told that accidents happen and it was shrugged off. I spoke with the owner later in the day and he was saying everything under the sun about their personal life to make it seem that their mistake was okay. I in my industry can't make mistakes, that's the same with the auto industry. A mistake could mean life or death. Granted an oil cap won't really kill me, but for someone that works very hard for their vehicle I expect to get my car back in if not better than when I dropped it off. I trust Sun Valley Automotive! I've been going here for years, but haven't been in the past several years with my current vehicle. I called Sun Valley up this morning because I have been experiencing some rattling when I've been driving. They answered their phones as early as 7AM and got my car in right away at 8:30AM, which was helpful. At about 2:30PM I got a call explaining their experience with my vehicle. They drove it for several miles, tightened up a few things, but all-in-all, it was just fine and definitely safe to drive. Nothing was wrong! When I picked it up, they explained that they did a thorough check and everything seemed safe but if there was any issues on the drive home to please turn around and let them know. They were right, my car seemed fine! And, they didn't charge me a penny! I appreciate that they didn't charge for any service/time/diagnostic costs. Very trustworthy! This is definitely a family business. I recognize the owner and some of the mechanics from years ago. I appreciate that! I now live in Westminster and will absolutely continue to drive to Lakewood to visit Sun Valley. I have an older vehicle (2003) that needed repairs to get it running again. Sun Valley Automotive agreed to take a look and provide an estimate for repairs. They were very professional and provided an assessment within my desired time frame. Ultimately, the repairs needed to get the car running as well as the "unknown" would probably exceed the value of the car. The point here is that Fred whom I worked with did not try to sell me on repairs that would merely get it running, but objectively looked at the vehicle and the prospect for needing additional work and HONESTLY recommended that I not make that investment. You heard that right! A repair shop that said "we don't want your money if it means that it won't make financial sense for you the customer" Clearly, their reputation means more to them than a few dollars to repair a hopeless vehicle. Honest mechanics. Grease monkey suggested some repairs and I wanted to get a secns opinion. Sun Valley confirmed that that service was very common given how old my car is and it would be a never ending thing to chase leaks. They didn't upsell me on that when they could've. There was a misunderstanding with a service that was done but not included in my quote. Sun valley honored the price the total in my quote. I truly appreciate their level of integrity. We started using Sun Valley when we moved to the area back in September 2010. It's always a gamble trying to choose a new auto repair shop - and after a little research we chose them; they have been absolutely fantastic! We have two older high-mileage cars that need the occasional poke and prod to keep running for us. As a female, I ALWAYS hate taking my car in for even an oil change - I dislike feeling pressured or knowing that somebody is trying to take advantage of me or oversell. . .and yet, this is one of the only shops that I have been comfortable taking my car into without my husband in tow for support. They are NEVER high pressure, nor do they try and sell you on unnecessary repairs. They have done repairs on both of our cars, are always friendly and honest, and have never tried to up-sell to us. Every time I call with a car issue, they are happy to discuss it over the phone. . .and when we do bring the car in they are quick to diagnose it and never do any repairs without a solid estimate and our consent. The estimates, without fail, have ALWAYS been more than reasonable. The fact that they gave us a $110 estimate once is a testament, in my opinion, to their honesty; they could have easily quadrupled that and replaced a whole system, when it really was a tiny little part that needed replaced. I was looking for a new garage and went to Sun Valley for brakes. Needless to say, they did a terrible job. I spent $1200 to have my brakes fixed in September 2017 and now am back to have my breaks fixed at a different garage in April 2018. When I took my truck in, they fixed the brakes, or so they said. They replaced the drums and pads and cylinders. Wh en I picked up the truck I immediately noticed they did not feel right and by the time I got home I could smell them burning. I called and they told me that was normal and the brakes just need time to break in. I called them back the next day and took my truck back in to have them look at it. They told me it was just an adjustment and I picked the truck up again. I did not feel my brakes were correct so I took it to Brakes Plus for an evaluation. They told me there were issues so I took it back to Sun Valley a third time. They corrected the issues though I had doubts about the workmanship and their ethical standards. It is now seven months later and I am having to have my brakes fixed again though this time, and never again will I use Sun Valley, Their customer service and the mechanic I had work on my truck were awful. Guess I will just chock this up to a $1200 mistake and move on. read more

These guys are fantastic! My husband and I are super impressed. I know it can be annoying to read long reviews, but in order to understand why we are so impressed with Jere and his team, you need to hear the story. A few months back, we started having problems with our driver side window on our Toyota Sienna. When it got bad enough, we took it to Firestone on Colfax. We explained to the manager that the problem was complex: upon rolling down the window, it would clunk (like metal against glass) and catch (sometimes getting stuck for a second or two). It occurred only on hotter days (never cooler days) and in the exact same spot as it rolled down. It occurred only on the first roll down, and in order to make it happen again, you would have to roll it up and let it sit for a couple of minutes. Lastly, it only happened when the door was shut, never when it was open. Firestone told us that it could only be the motor or the regulator- the only replaceable parts in the door. After testing the window, they claimed the problem was the motor. They said it was struggling and overheating (just FYI, the motor was only 3 years old). They admitted that they did not experience any issues with the window and were only guessing that the cause was the motor. We gave them the go-ahead to replace it. The problem occurred again shortly after I left their parking lot. I returned to the shop to tell them that the problem had not been fix and made another appointment. When I returned for the second appointment, the technician who worked on the window informed me that he had rolled the window up and down at least 30 times, consecutively, and couldn't make the window do what I was describing. Question: If you roll a window up and down 30 times in a row, wouldn't it make the motor hot- especially if something was obstructing its movement? Also, didn't I say that it only happened on the first roll down and wouldn't happen again until you let it rest? Hmmm.... On the second appointment, Firestone replaced the regulator. They admitted that there was nothing wrong with it, but stated again that the problem could only be caused by the motor or the regulator. We gave the go-ahead with the understanding that if it didn't solve the issue they would put the old one back in and give us a refund. They agreed. The problem didn't occur upon leaving their parking lot, but did occur again a short while later. A few days later we returned to Firestone to let them know that the problem had not been fixed. As we were leaving the driveway to head to Firestone, something broke in the door. The window shifted and slipped and became stuck in a down position. My husband and I had to pull together on the window to get it to come back up. The manager of Firestone told us to take it to Toyota (which we won't do because they are seriously overpriced). He agreed to a refund for the parts, but kept the labor charge. They did not swap out the new parts for the old ones- just gave us the refund. A week or so later, we took the problem to Sun Valley Automotive. Upon inspection, they informed us that the regulator had bent. They looked up the information on the regulator and informed us that Firestone had used an "aftermarket" part. So, we had to pay for a new regulator. The original issue occurred again as my husband drove the car out of their parking lot. He turned around and came right back. Jere, the owner, came running out of the office when he saw our car pull back into the lot. They made another appointment for the next day. The next morning, Jere called my husband to make sure he was coming back. He said the technician (Matt) who worked on the window was "up all night" worrying over it (no doubt an exaggeration, but nice customer service). Well, to finally end a long story, Matt quickly figured out what was causing the issue. The door catch had broken and was in the path of the window as it rolled down. Simple repair. Our window works great! As far as we are concerned, Firestone still owes us money: $91.80 in labor and $255.98 (a total of $347.78 down the drain) for the window regulator we had to replace again because they used an aftermarket part that broke. If they had fixed the problem correctly in the first place, we would never have had the motor and regulator replaced. Sun Valley Automotive has officially earned our business and our endorsement. Firestone has lost our business forever. And, it is good business- our Toyota is old and tired! Please, if you are looking for an excellent shop, look no further. I was selling my car and drove it up to this shop because the potential buyer wanted to have them check it out. I had just had it looked over by the dealer, so was pretty confidant the car was in good shape and things would turn out well. The buyer and I waited while they pulled it in to check it out. About 5 minutes later, they call the buyer in to show them what they'd found. They wouldn't let me follow to hear/see. they spent a couple of minutes speaking, and the buyer comes back out and says they are no longer interested. I very nicely asked what was found, so I can get any issues resolved. They very aggressively and rudely stated that the buyer had paid for their services, and I had not. So if I wanted to pay them as well, they would let me know (not sure how much they wanted for the 5 minutes they spent, but I got the point, and said thank you anyway and walked out). I later reached out to the buyer to see if I could get an understanding of what had occurred. He told me they had informed him the car had been in an accident, and that I must be lying to them. This was absolutely not the case, the car has never been in an accident - the carfax is clean as well. It turned out the reasons the shop had so quickly come to that conclusion could have just as easily been explained had they either spent another 5 minutes actually looking UNDER the vehicle, or actually talking to me about what they were seeing. In the end, sheer laziness and aggressiveness cost this deal with people who would have otherwise ended up with a great vehicle. I have other buyers lined up, so it's mostly just an inconvenience, but feel bad for all the time the buyers had wasted finding exactly what they wanted, only to be given (and apparently charged for) completely invalid information. I read lots of great reviews on here and another app. As with many mechanics, they took advantage of me. I bought my own air and cabin filter the gentleman said I'll get those installed for you. I thought "What a nice guy to offer to install them." When I got there to pick up my truck there was a $55 charge to install those. It literally takes less than 5 minutes. He did give me a discount when I asked but I now don't trust them. I also needed new brakes or at least I thought I did because they were vibrating quite a bit when I was driving on the highway. It ended up costing $550 for the brakes. There was never any mention of Machining the rotors they just replaced them. When I asked about it he said they don't really make rotors to be machined anymore. The metal is too thin. But an easy search online shows that they definitely do still machine rotors. I would be wary of going to this place. Still looking for a good honest mechanic. read more

I have been going to sun valley for over 20 years. They are honest and reliable. Here is an example. Recently, my stepmom went to them in order to replace her brakes. The brakes were making noise, and I wasn't around to take a look. She needed them to do the work quickly because she was driving back to Arizona in a couple of days. However, instead of duping her with a $600 brake job like Brakes Plus or Meineki would have done, they quickly informed her that she did NOT need new brakes. I'm taking my business elsewhere. Sun Valley claimed to install Motorcraft plugs in my Ford truck only 14k miles ago. I recently started having plugs go out, one after another after only 14k miles! I decided not to pay Sun Valley's $100 per plug charge to replace. When I started pulling plugs out I noticed they were not Motorcraft. They were Champions and they looked very very old. I called Sun Valley and they claimed the invoice showed Motorcraft. When I asked how can they explain why I'm pulling Champion plugs out of my engine they gave me the run around and I could never get hold of the owner. They had the nerve to ask me to bring my truck in. Why would I let them touch my truck after lying about installing new Motorcraft plugs when they really installed OLD Champion plugs? I was told numerous times that they only install Motorcraft plugs in Fords yet I just pulled 8 old Champion plugs out of my engine!. read more
