I have been coming here for years ever since I was a child. This is a staple in Stockton and every Asian person living in this town knows about this place! Although the original owners sold the place to retire, the new owners continued the tradition of serving the same menu items along with introducing some new items such as some dim sum buns . The flavor on their to go Chinese food is not the same as the original owners, but it still taste good and for the price it is still reasonable. I still try to stop by and order some to go when I drive-through Stockton. Not too much things to see in the store or purchase, but they do have a cute Kawaii section with merchandise other than that I come for the food. read more

I am really disappointed in Sun Wong Kee at this time, I have been here at least 100 times, mostly with the old owners. However, on Saturday April 13th, I had my girlfriend pick up 2 pounds of LEAN roasted pork, two big pieces of bbq pork, and an order of rice noodle, she drove home maybe 15 minutes through town, we opened up the food and Everything was cold to the touch, the roasted pork was old very dry and stiff, the Skin was not crispy but it was hard as a rock, the meat was so greasy ot puddled oil on the plate, the BBQ pork was OK but super greasy too, the noodles were cold to the touch as well, it's very disappointing to pay 50 dollars for crap that was probably from the previous day SHAME ON YOU Sun Wong Kee I may never order from you again for taking advantage of my girlfriend who doesn't know what it's supposed to look like in the deli read more

Great food great service i would recomended to eat there and so many international products to buy

I've been living in Stockton most of my life and eating at this establishment since I was a child. The original owners grown too old to run the business and decided to ride off into the sunset. New owners making changes and making the dei profitable is understandable but the food has changed quite a bit and doesn't have the same magic that made the original one so successful. The duck and roasted pork is still good and a party favorite for all the right reasons but the chow fun and chow mien have changed. It hasn't grown on me as other chinese food places have stepped up their game and offer better products. I'm glad they survived covid lockdowns and still pumping out food for the community and maybe one day they will have the food as good as it was when I was a child. read more

I used to go here as a child. My mother's buddhist temple is so close (which was why we went on Sundays) and the Farmer's Market was a block away (which was why we went on Saturdays). I'm so conflicted because 20 years ago, this place was seriously cracka-lacking! The hustle and bustle of customers, food coming in and out was proof that this place was popular. But when my sister and I went in the other weekend (for the Farmer's Market) the place now is a dilapidated memory of the brand new place it used to be. The outside looks worn down and on the inside it matches. They seem to only keep the food part of the place operational and unfortunately, the quality wasn't as expected or up to former standards. read more

This is for the deli portion of Sun Wong Kee. I've been going here since I was a child. I used to love watching them hack away at the meat on this wooden chopping board and I remember wondering how they are able to do that with the chopping board looking almost like a wooden bowl because of so much use. They have the best roast duck I've ever had. It has the most delicately crispy skin you will ever have. It's not such a secret anymore because I've had to pre-order my roast duck! $9 something for half and $18 something for a whole roast duck. I honestly don't know how they are staying afloat with an empty grocery but if it's because of their deli then they are obviously doing something right. read more

My family has shopped from here for many years. I remember the place use to be busy with business. The place now is worn down inside and out. Customer service is not how it use to be. The staff use to take time in knowing their customers and was really friendly. I think they had a change of management over the years. Although their food is cheap delicious they force and argue with customers on how much food you should buy. Earlier the year we called in to reserve two ribs of roast pork but when we went to pick up they claim we said three. They said they can't cut the one off because no one will buy one. My mom is Buddhist and she needed it for worship so my mom purchased all three ribs. Whatever happen to customers being right??? This time we called in for two ribs and they told us over the phone we have to buy four otherwise they won't sell it to us. We could have only spend $10 but instead they made us spend $20. They know there's a demand for their crispy roast pork and they completely monopolize it. They definitely took advantage of us. They should not be doing business this way. They lost another customer. I use to come here when I was a little kid, and I believe his father used to own it? Not too sure, but their roasted pork has always been crispy and delicious. As well as their roasted duck. Those are the two main delicacies that attracted me to this establishment since I was a kid. Other than that, their other foods aren't bad, but it's okay. My main concern was their rude customer service, I understand you don't speak English, but me telling you by finger gestures and saying pounds are pretty understandable. Family been here for a long time ordering Chinese food here. There's a new owner now, who change the place a bit. Something off with their foods. It's not quite the same, though it will do. When ordering, the worker was friendly, offering to try different foods they have. Looking at the menu board, they do not have everything. Eggrolls wasn't even to offer, saying it will be there for tomorrow. It was a bummer, instead I ordered the sesame balls, which is cheap 10 for 2 dollars. This place is basically a counter located at the left side of the store. The women weigh up your items and chop your meats and off you go to the cashier to pay. It's solely a take-out establishment. I tried the BBQ pork which was absolutely delicious, pork chow fun (one of my favorites), and pork chow mein. Everything tastes authentic and is not greasy; the seasonings are perfectly balanced. I also got some of the pork stomach which was surprisingly good (although they should put a little bit of the broth into the container so that the good flavor stays with the meat). They had fried chicken that smelled like garlic chicken (only drumsticks were available; I did not sample this but my friend said it was really good). I will return soon for more of the BBQ pork and also to sample the roast duck, roast quail, and egg rolls. read more

This is good food for cheap. I can get full for less than five dollars! I came every as often as I could during high school lunch. I always got the chow fun and bbq pork. I still make the occasional trip across town just to eat here. Customer service has always been great. The cashier is also pretty impressive, just pay attention to when he rings you up. This is one of the best places to go to for Take-Out chinese food and it's practically cheap compared to the other chinese food places. I have been here a few times and they have always been fast at getting me my order. It's easy to order: walk up point at what you want, tell them how much you want and your off to the cashier while he/she helps the next person. My go to order is BBQ pork, pork fried rice, chow fun, and roasted duck. They are also one of the few places that will still wrap the meat you ordered in butcher paper. Watch the area it is pretty dismal and decrepit. Makes sense why they operate with in the daylight hours of 9-4:30 M-Sat and Sun 9-4:30 closed Wednesday. I think they close earlier on Sunday's I showed up at 4pm and the outside gates were locked. Also watch out for the lunchtime rush those people downtown can turn those 3-5 minute lines to 15+ mins wait. read more

Sun Wong Kee is definitely one of those places I remember as a child. My parents would often come here to order their party platters or any of their other dishes to go. Everything was always yummy and I am glad it still exists today. I heard the business may be going out of business soon due to not being able to keep up with the rent and such & I'll be truly sadden if it does. I think it's one of the most authentic Chinese food places that dont feel like a Panda Express & I am always satisfied going here. Don't be scared of the neighborhood. I've been going to this place since I was a kid. Dirty, outdated, run down Chinese store with flies around the deli was the norm. Now, they have new owners and it shows. The place is clean and organized! A/C is running, shelves are stocked, floor is clean, and people aren't treated like derelicts (Yes, they do get a few of those). The deli is clean well maintained. The new owners seem to be nice, but remember that Chinese people always seem like they are rude, but they aren't. They aren't yelling at you. That's just how they talk. LOL! read more

I called in, they told me one price, I came 15 min later to put deposit down and suddenly price jumped 100 bucks because I needed it right away. She didn't want to get out of the car that's how bad this place can look for someone who's not from the area. There's literally people selling god knows what right in front, and soliciting. But this place is soo worth it. I live in the bay area now but come down to visit my mom here almost every weekend. She's old and misses me I think. And I never leave without stopping in and getting some fried chicken, chow mein, roast pork and bbq pork. I know I'm a pig but my mom loves the stuff too. Best BBQ pork in the city. Best I ever had period. But it wasn't as flavorfull this time. My first time back in about 18 months. The prices have gone up a bit too. The meat it self is still HELLA tender and there isn't really any fat on it at all. The great flavor just isn't there like it used to be. when i was a child in the late 80's and early 90's, i used to help my grandparents sell vegetables at the farmers market every saturday morning (glad to say that its still open-although my grandparents have long retired since). it was a time when the economy was good and the atmosphere more cheerful. maybe due to my innocence at the time. i enjoyed helping my grandparents, but most of all anticipated on going to sun wong kee grocery before we had packed up to leave. the food there are inexpensive. an xl box of chow mein/ fried rice will only run you about $6-7 each compared to other places. the one thing i love about the chinese food cooked here is that its less greasy than anywhere else. since those yrs, i still manage to make stops there every once in a while. the food are still great and prepared by the same ppl for ages. early saturdays 10a are your best bet. although its not set in a great neighborhood the food will do all the talking since this is what we're here for. sorry no dine in...only carry outs. ps for humor, watch the cashier as he tallies all your items fast and accurately in his head w/out using his cash register read more
