Heavenly! I've been looking for such a bakery for a long time after having moved to the West Coast. I stopped by today to get Iraqi samoon and to try their shawarma for lunch. Outstanding! The owners and staff are very friendly. This is a keeper.

Lots of filling, and the filo melts in your mouth!

Sunbela is a blessing! My husband went to Sunbela to get some goodies for his Syrian friends. He wanted to get his friends a delicious treat to give them a taste of home. The owner was so kind and understanding. He recommended a variety of baklava. He suggested a fresh baked variety package. He was even kind enough to write a message to the recipients of the gift on top of the box in Syrian. What a BEAUTIFUL written language! They also serve meat and/or vegetables, which we cannot wait to try! They also offer shipping, so no matter where you are in the U.S., you have access to authentic baklava! My husband also got a box for us, which you can see in the pictures below! To the owner- thank you SO much, brother! We will definitely be back again!

I highly recommend to support this wonderful family owned business. They are very friendly and very generous with their samples! We have already recommended to two people and will post on Instagram and Facebook! Reasonable prices too! They seem to use a high quality of halal meat too! Very tender!

Front and where to order... Also a view of yummy sweets

We showed up at the end of the night so most things were gone BUT the available food was yum and the desserts? The best I've had since Dubai. Just sayin' Service was excellent! We came from far, we asked to sit and eat here, it was okay. The ambiance is nice. Seems like a to-go place more and more seating was outside but it's fall so it's raining... All in all, if you're ever in Portland and you're tired of burgers and fries or just want to grab something sweet? This should be your to place, hands down!

Walking in less than an hour before closing, we were surprised to see most of the items still in stock! We ended up picking four things to try: Vanilla Bean Kouign Amann ($7) - This pasty has a sweet yet salty exterior that's complementary in flavor rather than clashing. It's accentuated with a crunchy glazed and caramelized sugar layer that's on the sweeter side. The interior is interesting. There's a cavernous gap right in the center that's filled with a sickly sweet melted sugar syrup. It's unpleasantly sweet and very cloying. The puffed and filled area is large enough that it compresses the other layers so the kouign amann is dense. I've never had a kouign amann quite this sweet before. (3/5) Meyer Lemon Olive Oil Cake with Thyme ($5.50) - This cake is so moist and rich, thick and dense, fatty and rich, that it feels like I"m eating a slab of butter. I'm sure it has just as many calories too! It's quite sweet, although not nearly to the level of the kouign amann. Overall, it's just a really rich and decadent cake. (4/5) Blueberry + Vanilla Cream Brioche Donut w/ Earl Grey ($6) - The top of the pastry is dressed with a cream that has an unmistakably strong bergomot earl grey taste. I wish there was way more cream - there's essentially only a dab on top! The rest of the donut is filled with a custardy light blueberry and vanilla jam. It's not too sweet and has an excellent high quality blueberry fragrance, creating an exceptionally strong blueberry taste. The jam is not too thick and is somewhat syrupy from sugar. The donut itself is really soft and extremely airy. It's the fluffiest donut I've eaten in a long time. (5/5) Raspberry Rose Cruffin ($8.50) - This pastry has some fun dehydrated raspberries sprinkled right on top of a light and fluffy cream that's not too sweet. The cruffin base is buttery in taste and great lamination even when filled with the custard and rose/raspberry cream. This is a heavy cruffin that's very filling. (5/5) Twisted Croissant certainly does some some really delectable treats. It's one of my favorite bakeries in Portland!

Twisted Croissant was definitely one of my favorite bakeries in the city, however, they have…read moresignificantly raised their prices, and the pastries are much smaller. I'm not sure that I can justify spending $7 to $12 on a single pastry. This will have to be my special occasion bakery, I suppose. Additionally, I had a less than pleasant exchange with one of the employees. It kind of caught me off guard because that has never happened before. Maybe she was just having a rough day.
