The best snow crab handroll. I had asked for one via the kids menu, made with non-spicy Mayo. My Little ate it up, saying it was the best sushi ever. And when I had a taste, I was sad that this may very well have ruined all other crab hand rolls for me. I guess that just means we have to come back. Was in Nashville for a few days and had to try this location . I am based I love both Chicago locations . I would say happy hour should be spoken about only seating by the bar. My group was under the impression when was seated at the table we arrived during happy hour would be able to order on that menu . We were offered to move but at that point we had been seated comfortably . I will have to say service was on the slower side it was a Thursday evening at 530 can't really pinpoint it wasn't overly busy till in an hour in but overall slower than what I'm used to . I enjoyed the space it reminded me of the Chicago locations open concept decor was right in Asian influence . When it came to food I wanted to try things I usually don't try . I really enjoyed the shrimp I could have probably ate that whole order to myself creamy delicious sauce with walnuts and the shrimp were crispy . I did find some of the dishes saltier than I'm used. The pork belly sinigang presentation was interactive loved pouring the broth onto the dish but I do believe my friend was slightly disappointed she was hoping for that comforting broth sour tamrind. It definitely was on the mild side of what we are use to in the amazing dish that sinigang is . The ube expresso martini was heavy pour on the mezcal was hoping more ube notes or foam . Star of the night has to be the Bibingka not on the menu believe it was special for the month . Not sure if they remember hearing us saying that my friend was graduating from Vanderbilt the next day but that was nice . This food was very good. It was an upscale Asian/Asian fashion small-ish plates. The standouts were the chicken, the rice, and the miso cauliflower. The oxtail potstickers were a little too dry for me and my fiance. But the rest was all very good! Nothing was really spicy except the peppers themselves. If you go around lunar new year you get these cute red envelopes! The restaurant had nice background music, but it wasn't loud which was wonderful. The biggest let down of the night was that I think our order was forgotten because after an hour of sitting there we had not gotten our food. That being said, it's still a five star. That's how good the food was - even being on the pricey side. Or maybe we were just starving after waiting an hour for food (lol) so it was extra good. The menu is humongous by the way - it has Asian fusion, sushi, Thai, and Chinese dishes. The Wagyu Crispy Rice ($26) is to die for - GET IT. It melts in your mouth. Tuna Truffle Pizza ($24) is unique AF, and has actual truffle shavings. The Chicken Pad Thai ($26) was well made and came with loads of tofu to my BF's dismay, thankfully I love tofu and ate it all off his plate. Frank at the bar is awesome and has the best man bun. We had a lovely experience at Sunda. Although a little overpriced, the food was delicious and creative. We tried the Bao buns, and liked how you could do half and half of two different flavors. I enjoyed the fried eggplant, it had many different textures from the crunchy slaw to soft steamy buns. I also tried the sweet potatoe caterpillar roll. It had sweet potatoe and crispy Asian pear, topped with avocado and served with black garlic teriyaki sauce. I enjoyed the flavors, but wished the sweet potatoe was fried tempura style instead of soft as it was a little baby food esque, but yummy nonetheless! Yes, both were pretty overpriced for what they were, but both apps were amazinggg, so we didn't mind paying for quality food. The Brussels Salad had this nice vinaigrette to it- really tasty. I got the Ube Espresso Martini [$19] which only had a hint of ube. Nonetheless, the drink was really well made. For the main courses, we got the Crispy Pata [$32] which came w/a side of steamed rice, the Pancit Canton [$32] - which came super late, but they apologized for the wait, the Adobo Fried Rice [$24] & the scallops [$39]. Everyone was really impressed with the spread. That Crispy Pata was no joke, loved every crispy bite! Cooked to perfection. The adobo fried rice was a tad too salty for me, but still enjoyed it. We went for the first time for our wedding anniversary! The ambiance was exactly what you would expect for The Gulch. It fit the genre of food as an Asian Fusion restaurant. When I walked in I realized it used to be Cantina Laredo and had some flashbacks to my college days. But, they've made great use of the space. The service was great. She offered great suggestions and even gave us a yummy desert at the end of the night as an Anniversary gift, which was so thoughtful! Our food was good! The Pancit could have been a bit more flavorful. I used to a thinner noodle with that dish, but it was still very good. And we will definitely go again! I spent over $500 and when one of the drinks in the espresso martini flight, a chili espresso martini, tasted awful, we asked if it could be swapped out. The manager refused and instead offered to bring different drinks that we would still have to pay for. Thankfully I asked because he was trying to be sly and didn't disclose that until I asked if I'd be charged. At a restaurant at this price point, that response is ridiculous. Garlic Crab noodles - 7.5/10 I was looking forward to this one, but they used regular pasta, which was disappointing. The flavor was there and the crab tasted great, but would've been better with an egg noodle to enhance the Asian fusion flavors of the noodle. It was really heavy, but good. Don't get me wrong, I did my due diligence and checked it out on this somewhat popular app called Yelp - perhaps you've heard of it..lol The Happy Hour menu is full of tasty delights like the Seoul Wings...just Wow! Flew in yesterday from Brooklyn, NY for a few days and I was looking for a meal after my flight. Beautiful aesthetic upon arrival, and very conveniently located. I made a reservation last minute on open table. My host at the Airbnb recommended trying some food out in The Gulch, so here we are. I sat at the bar, which is not something I normally do, but the hostess (who was absolutely lovely) recommended it. I'm glad she did because was a beautiful installation above the bar, of a school of fish made out of palms, which I couldn't stop looking at. The bartender with very quick and so kind, we shared a few laughs, then I ordered the strawberry fields cocktail, the garden futomaki roll, the Korean fried chicken buns, and the adobo fried rice with vegetables. The strawberry cocktail was so good. I didn't even realize it had alcohol at some point. I was just taking them down so quick. The fried chicken buns came first, they made my tongue salivate when they opened the top of the basket lol! But I felt like we're too big to handle without looking like a barbarian fresh from the hunt. So I asked for a knife and cut them into fours. The garden roll was delicious, but it fell apart easily due to its large size. If they did two smaller rolls instead of one giant one, it would hold together as you're dipping. The adobo rice was so so, I felt like it had the potential to be so much better. It is lacking that punch of flavor that I would want in something that is supposed to mimic a Philippine dish. That garlic taste was there, but it was very oily, and the vinegary undertone I would expect was missing. Maybe it was because I ordered vegetable and not a protein, but it wasn't the highlight of the meal. Overall, If I lived here, I would most definitely return. It was however oddly dead by the time I left. But that is most likely because it's a Monday and I'm on vacation, so time is ambivalent to me at this current moment! read more
