i've been to this truck on a number of occasions and have always had nice, little sandwich served on a baguette while sometimes accompanied with a fresh, homemade soup, but i have never been motivated to write a review........ until today. i just finished off their creation called the Havana, which is a spin on a Cuban sandwich, but they make their version with shredded, roasted pork, gruyère cheese, pickles, and dijonnaise [[i assume that they combine some dijon mustard with hollandaise sauce and are not using some corporate, mayo-like product from a giant bottle]] all packed together, like a bundle of juicy delight, into a sliced baguette. note - when i say juicy, i mean juicy. grab a bunch of napkins when you order this sandwich, because it will drip as copiously as a slumlord's leaky faucet as you eat it. another note - most of their sandwiches are a bit diminutive in nature, but this is the biggest sandwich that i have ever eaten from this truck. if you are suffering from hunger pains - this is the sandwich you want to get. one more note - i also had a bowl (16 oz [they also have 8 oz available - separate or combo package]) of tomato soup with the Havana and i think it was one of the most awesome (yes, grammar fascists, i just wrote 'most awesome.' i claim poetic license, so blow me) tomato soups that i have ever consumed in my life time. it was 16 ounces of fresh, lumpy yet supple, and vibrant yet subtle, tomato liquid satisfaction. last note - you should also try the Kingston, if at all possible. they really deliver on the finely spiced, jerk chicken which contrasts nicely, much to my surprise, with the pineapple salsa and garlic mayo. it is so good that it'll make you want to convert to Rastafari. that is, if you *could* convert to Rastafari............ moving on. truly, the last note - there's nothing really to move on to, because it seems that this truck will be "hibernating" for the winter, but if the weather is nice, keep an eye out for these guys - they make some good soups and sandwiches. other than that - hope for a speedy Spring.

While it sounds simple enough, I've actually had my fair share of less than yummy dumplings. I ran into Pinch at the City Center Farmer's Market and I knew that I had to give them a try. They were serving an assortment of vegan and meat dumplings. Being the carnivore that I am, I got their two meat options: chicken and asparagus and beef. Both came with a dumpling dipping sauce and an Asian slaw ($1 extra). While fried dumplings are always infinitely 100% better, I chose to get the steamed option in an attempt to be healthy. My freshly steamed hot dumplings were ready in less than five minutes and I excitedly split it with my husband. The quality in their product is evident: they hand roll their dough, grind their filling using local and organic ingredients, and pinch their dumplings daily. When eaten with their vinegary Asian slaw on top, it is a delicious combination. $19 for two orders is a bit pricey but to find quality, delicious dumplings it is worth the price!

Who was Weenie Beenie and what is it like? We had no idea but we knew they were one of the first,…read moreif not the first, to serve the legendary half-smoke sausages only available in DC. The visit was unique, the story is unique and the food is unique! Let's do this! Established in 1950 or 1954 (reports vary but the sign on the building says 1954), Weenie Beenie was a modest hot dog stand serving hot dogs and beans. It was started by two brothers, Carl and Bill Staton. Bill happened to be an incredible and ultimately famous traveling pool player who went by the name... you guessed it... Weenie Beenie! He won 27k in Arkansas (which is a LOT of money in the 1950's) and used the money to finance the hot dog stand's growth! He appeared on television, played hustlers across the country, and backed other hustlers while living the pool and entrepreneur life. During the 50's, a period of entrenched segregation in Virginia, Weenie Beenie distinguished itself by hiring black employees on the same terms as whites when most white‑owned businesses would not hire blacks at all. This made Weenie Beenie a rare example of early workplace integration in Arlington and a meaningful employer within the historically Black Green Valley community. Its reputation for fairness became a very important part of its legacy, remembered along with the food and its very colorful founder. We popped over and found a 70+ year old walk-up stand with a colorful, diverse and engaging set of customers and friendly service. In faded letters on the front wall to the left are the 10 commandments! No breaking any divine rules at Weenie Beenie's! We all chatted and I learned the one guy comes every day! The old man in the suit was very polite and reserved. The younger Latin and black clientele were fun and engaging and we joked around quite a bit. Another older man was as 38-year veteran of the armed service! Thank you sir! I heard some stories... Of course, we ordered half-smokes! They are well-seasoned half-pork, half beef, smoked sausages that are truly incredible. Weenie Beenie's are unique and delicious! Life is good with a historic, unique, fun and respectful half smoke.

Everything was absolutely delicious, and I can't recommend this place enough -- especially knowing they're part of our local community. I've walked past this gem so many times without realizing what I was missing! It's tucked away in the Home Depot parking lot on Little River Turnpike, so don't sleep on it.
