Very good sandwiches!! I had the tartufo with black truffle honey which was to die for. The Monaco with eggplant and zucchini was even more flavorful! The chips are intriguing but you can skip them.
I think I spent a good 10 minutes staring at the menu because every single sandwich sounded amazing. Gotta say, my expectations were low but Fossette Focacceria definitely delivered on a sandwich nearly as good as one I've had in Florence / Rome. And when I say "nearly" it's at no fault to be them as I'm sure it's hard to get quality ingredients on par with Italian meats / cheeses these days. Will absolutely be back to try more! P.S. my picture an dothere really don't do it justice
The cold and hot sandwiches are delicious and flavorful! The focaccia bread is the real star of the sandwich. They were also very filling! This location is easily accessible and right off the Mt Vernon stop on the green/yellow line.
A hidden gem! This is the way to focus on just one thing and do it well... focaccia sandwiches. The 13 choices are a tasty expression of classic sandwiches. I sampled the Tartufo. The arugula and the black truffle honey really accent the prosciutto and stracciatella. The focaccia was very light, slightly toasted with a marvelous crunch. My wife's Cubano was an Italian take on thus classic sandwich. Though the focaccia was equally delightful, this was a little mundane but still enjoyable. This cute shop has limited seating at a counter and a few tables for 2 people. 4 or more in a group would be better served with takeout orders. This would be a great option for a picnic or lunch in the park. I think we thoroughly recommend this and will come again.
This place specializes in focaccia sandwiches but also sells gelato, wine, and a small selection of Italian imported goods (pasta, snacks, etc.) along the side wall. Free water is available in the back along with straws which was nice. The focaccia itself is beautiful: fluffy, airy, and bouncy without being dense. What I tried: Mortazza Sandwich (4.8/5) - Delicate mortadella meat paired with fresh stracciatella and pistachio cream. Loved the combo, though I wish there had been more pistachio cream--it was just a little drizzle, and more would've been nice. Also, I think this is a quality check error but my sandwich was not cut in half. Would've been a lot more convenient and easy to hold. If I had known they wouldn't cut it then I would've asked while ordering:/ Italiano Sandwich (4.2/5) - Classic cured Italian meats with pickled peppers and vinegar. Bold, sharp, and punchy, which paired well with the salty meats. I'll definitely be back when craving focaccia again. The biggest con is seating. During peak weekend lunch hours, it's nearly impossible to find a spot. Be ready to take your sandwich to-go or wait a while if you want a table.
Stumbled upon a new a new sandwich spot near the office with a cozy vibe, though seating is limited. We had to wait a bit for our sandwiches (the Chicken Parm, the Balboa and the Abruzzo) they were very tasty. I loved the soft fresh bread and generous fillings. Open daily 10-4 and offers daily specials.
Fossette Focacceria is a nice casual spot for focaccia sandwiches in the Logan Circle/Shaw neighborhoods. There's not a whole lot of seating here -- it's a good spot for two people to enjoy a sandwich together, but it becomes really crowded if you have a bigger group. ITALIANO - 14 This came with a variety of deli meats (genoa salami, finocchiona, sopressata and mortadella), mozzarella, spicy peppers (which I took out) and Italian dressing (oil and vinegar). It had a good ingredients to bread ratio, but I thought there was way too much dressing (it got messy quickly). While the bread was fluffy, I wish it was toasted a bit more for the crunch and char. Also would have wanted a thicker piece of mozzarella to even out the amount of meat. Overall, solid sandwich spot especially if you like focaccia bread!
It's a nice place to grab lunch. There's not a lot of seating inside (maybe 10-15 seats), and there are 4 seats outside. It feels more like a cafe than a restaurant. I wouldn't say you should come here if you're looking for a quick stop. We waited for a while to get our sandwiches, and there weren't that many people ordering. I ordered the Abruzzo and it was great! Everything inside worked together and the bread was soft. I do wish it had more of the onions and pepper because the overall sandwich felt too salty towards the end. The Chicken Parm sandwich comes out hot and crispy, definitely worth getting if you want to indulge.
A quality Italian sandwich shop! We tried the chicken parm sandwich and the tartufo. Both were tasty but the tartufo was my favorite. The ratio of ingredients was excellent and balanced. I appreciate that their focaccia is not too thick nor hard to bit into like some other focaccia sandwiches I've had. The chicken parm took a bit longer for them to make (which they told us prior). I enjoyed it but think it might be better with a richer tomato sauce and a thinner, crispier piece of chicken. My friend got a matcha which she said was fine but wouldn't get again. I will be back to try more of the sandwiches though - they are well crafted and delicious! FYI shop is small and has no restroom for customers
I would 100% come back got the Mortazza and Testaccio and both were phenomenal. The focaccia is die for and the filling / flavor is amazing for both sandwiches. You cannot go wrong. Best sandwich place I've found in a bit and can't wait to return
Since I ate here yesterday for lunch and I can't stop thinking about it! Really! I picked up my food to go and went somewhere to eat , if you know me very well, you know that if the food is really amazing I will mostly likely forget to take photos of it! Guess what? It was really amazing! Lol Don't let the menu fool you. it's short, but not too short, and small, but not really! Every item is a masterpiece, so you'll spend ages debating what to order. Trust me, you'll end up getting two sandwiches because picking just one feels like a crime against your cravings! Luckily I had 2 more people so I got 4 different sandwiches and we tried all of them! The Abruzzo - excellent and new to my taste buds The Italiano - The Italian combo but elevated to a much higher level The Mortazza - simple but not simple! The stracciatela with pistachio crema and pistachio are phenomenal over the mortadela ! The Testaccio - very nice! I like it but to be honestly harsh I didn't feel the meat was actually short ribs but I still would order it again! Yes! It was amazing! I really wanted the Chicken Parm and the Parmigiano ( Eggplant Cutlet ) but unfortunately I still don't have super powers to eat whatever I desire all at once without gaining any weight or going in a food coma! I ordered online and I liked the simple system powered by Toast so my info was there already! Cool You can remove ingredients from the sandwiches but I don't recommend it! They know what they are doing! I'm looking forward to dine in one day because they also have an Espresso Bar!! What a pleasure to eat these wonderful Focaccia !! I have one take and I hope to see a comment from the management just so you can see their explanation for it! I really loved everything! But 2 Focaccia's were so soft and fluffy and the others weren't that fresh ( notice I said "that fresh") maybe because it was a slow day after Christmas? Ordered an Italiano and Caprese for delivery and both were excellent! They were carefully packaged and traveled well. The focaccia bread is fresh, soft, and delicious. These sandwich's are satisfying without leaving you feeling stuffed.
Stopped by for a quick Sunday brunch pickup. Our group was happy there was an egg option, but also wanted more lunch focus. The focaccia was light and flavorful! Just perfect for a sandwich. The fillings were fresh and there was a variety of options - something for everyone. Also got a cold brew coffee which was exactly as expected - they do offer a handful or torani syrup options. Staff was friendly and service was prompt. There were some small inside seating options and two two-seater tables outside. Definitely more takeaway focused, which worked perfectly for what we were looking for.
True to its name, delicious sandwiches on fluffy focaccia bread with about a dozen sandwiches to choose from! There's a small indoor seating space and a couple of tables outdoors. The Portfino sandwich hit the spot and bursting with flavor in every bite! The sandwich was stuffed with a heap of veggies (mushrooms, peppers, onions, arugula) with goat cheese and topped with lemon aioli, delicious! The Monaco roasted veggie sandwich is very flavorful! The sandwich was stuffed with fried eggplant, grilled zucchini, stracciatella, tomato, arugula and roasted red pepper spread. The Parmigiano sandwich with eggplant was more like a Caprese sandwich with fresh mozzarella cheese, greens, tomato, and crispy thinly sliced eggplant stuffed between scrumptious moist Focaccia bread. This isn't a traditional sloppy Joe's Eggplant Parm sandwich (there's no marinara sauce!) While the ingredients were neatly tucked inside and I enjoyed the sandwich, the sandwich particularly was a little bit dry and I think a bit of sauce like pesto or marinara would go a long way. The Nutella Brownie is best eaten at room temperature, it tastes chewy and pretty awful cold. Let it thaw. Note the sandwich shop is now open Mon - Sun 10am - 4pm (it used to be open Wed - Sun and I made the mistake of walking over a mile from work on Tues when it was closed! Great sandwich shop (owned by Red Hen), and wish it was a little closer to work , so I could come back more often! read more

For Bethesda locale in Slice Shop. The Mortazza is the best sandwich in DC - maybe tied with something from Bub and Pop's, but the focaccia makes everything mo better. Best mortadella sammie outside of Bologna! Only a slight exaggeration. Wish it was a little bit more of a dining experience, but that's not the point. read more

This place just opened up in Union Market and it did NOT disappoint! It may be my new fav sandwich. The focaccia was out of this world fresh. But what really was amazing about this sandwich was the freshness and taste of just a veggie combo. There was so much flavor and it was truly very filling. I was dreaming about eating this afterwards it was that good! read more

Across the street from the Convention Center, this spot is a great place to grab sandwiches for lunch. It's a small spot with a few tables and bar seating. There's a small market inside selling coffee, olive oil, etc. The sandwiches are diverse. The chicken parm came with a thick piece of chicken cutlet with some sesame on it. It was tasty! read more

I have been wanting to try this place for a while and since I was next door at Awesome Con we decided to stop for lunch. This place did not disappoint. I ordered the Mortazza it was so delicious. It honestly reminded me of a sandwich place we ate at when we were in Paris. The service was quick and easy. There are only a couple of spots to sit and the inside is pretty small but definitely worth it. I can't wait to come back and try sometime else soon. read more
I recently got the chance to stop by Foccaceria with a close friend. It is a new sandwich shop near the convention center right across the street from Unconventional Diner. I got the Italiano sandwich. The image doesn't do it justice. This was a great sandwich. Staff were friendly and well informed on all their sandwich. They have about 12 seats in the restaurant but they do get packed quickly. I highly advise trying this spot. read more

I ordered pickup at Fossette, which has a variety of focaccia sandwiches that are Italian-inspired in flavor. The store doesn't have too much indoor seating (just a few tables) but has a cute cafe-type vibe. The person at the cashier was very nice and prompt. I didn't have to wait to pick up (and there wasn't a huge line when I went either). The food: I ordered the Abruzzo. Overall portion and flavor was good! Not the largest sandwich I've had, but similar in pricing to other sandwich joints near the convention center. The ingredients tasted very fresh! It said prosciutto for the sandwich, but I think it has prosciutto cotto instead? Wasn't mad, but just unexpected. I also saw they had tiramisu and couldn't resist. The lady fingers were nicely soaked in the coffee (not too soggy), and the cream was tasty as well. Overall, a solid option for a quick lunch in the convention center area. read more
Good quick lunch spot with massive sandwiches! I enjoyed the Mortazza a lot and thought they were pretty generous with the stracciatella and mortadella. The pistachio crema also added a little bit of sweetness which paired well with the salty mortadella. However, I kind of felt like the sandwich was missing something - it was delicious for the first few bites but could have used maybe something fresh to keep the flavor interesting. My friend got the Parmigiano, which was good, but the eggplant was so thin that you couldn't really taste much beyond the breading. My biggest disappointment was with the focaccia itself - it was quite dry and almost tasted a bit stale. It wasn't terrible but I was definitely expecting more from a place that focuses completely on focaccia sandwiches. Given the freshness of the other ingredients I think the sandwiches would be amazing with a better quality bread! read more

This brand new spot on the boarder of Logan Circle and Shaw is a great addition to the neighborhood! Owned by the next door parent restaurant All Purpose, Fossette is a solid breakfast and lunch sandwich shop that carries coffee, wine, pasta and more! I ventured here today on its grand opening and can tell this will become one of my favorite places. The staff is friendly and service was fairly quick. I ordered the breakfast focaccia sandwich and the bread was amazing. Though they don't have seating yet, there seems to be a bar that will ultimately have high stools for sitting. This is definitely designed to be a carry out spot, but Logan Circle is nearby if you're in a need of a place to relax and enjoy these awesome sandwiches. I'm so happy to see a local business open in this space! read more

Was really excited to try this place. Went today for lunch and was really annoyed. I ordered their Italian sandwich that comes with three types of meat and mozzarella. I opened it to check the sandwich out before I took a bite because all I could see was meat and arugula and didn't want to eat it if I had received the wrong sandwich. I didn't see what I would expect to be fresh mozzarella on a sandwich, just a small amount (a teaspoon maybe) of some white cream. I figured this was some pistachio cream or something that made its way onto the knife. So I took it to the counter and told them they'd forgotten the cheese. They took it to the back and brought it back to me with no changes and told me the cheese was on the top. I tried to say more but they just left me. So, I opened the sandwich back up to verify my findings. There was still, at most, a teaspoon of what must have been the innards of a very small mozzarella ball--like the kind that comes three to an ounce. It literally looked like dressing there was so little, like maybe 1/3 ounce, which because of the aforementioned three packs of mozz balls, I can easily estimate. I am not someone who chooses restaurants for their portion size. But I do choose things based on balance and feeding me what I order. But there was plenty of meat on this and just barely any cheese. Plus they were pretty nasty to me when I gently asked about it. I am bummed because the sandwich was actually pretty good--way too much oil and a teaspoon of mozz but overall nice ingredients and great bread. But it was much better when I took the second half home and put cheese on it--like it says on the menu. The least they could have done was give some stupid reason why there were four ounces of meat and 1/3 ounces of cheese. I may give them one more chance, but I'd really like the caprese and I'm not confident the mozz will out-weigh the balsamic. read more
