i've been doing crossfit since february of 2012; at the time of this writing, i've been doing crossfit for over 14 years. i've been through a lot of crossfit and have seen it change and evolve. i started visiting sundown crossfit some time in 2017 and have been a member of sundown crossfit since october of 2021. i'll definitely recommend it. first of all, crossfit in general is the most time efficient method of working out that i've experienced in my life. it's not scary since you can always scale down the movements or weights, and you don't feel self-conscious because the whole class is doing the prescribed/programmed workout together. doing crossfit at sundown crossfit is great! they use good wod programming, the equipment is well maintained, and the coaches are well trained and genuinely helpful. the gym puts on great events and has fun community activities. you can also adjust your training by doing programs other than just the main crossfit program: you can do weightlifting; a hyrox style program; a shorter, less technical bootcamp style class; or nutrition work. both the staff and members make up a friendly crowd. i highly recommend sundown crossfit. read more

Love this spot! I came to check out this box, after my box has shutdown because of covid, and I loved the minute I walked in. First off, the space is big and bright with lots of equipment and a huge mural on one of the main walls that makes the space really inviting! The equipment looked to be in great condition and has everything you need to have an awesome CrossFit class. The community is amazing and you will meet the nicest people and coaches here, they have fun events and the people become like family. They also have a on-site certified massage therapist (Pete) AMAZING and also a chiropractor (Jordan). They also have oly lifting classes and offer nutrition classes. I lost about 10 pounds of body fat since i joined. I always look forward coming here in the morning & definitely recommend this spot if you're looking for a CrossFit gym in Santa Clara/North San Jose area. When everything was closed for COVID, and I was getting desperate for exercise because Zoom classes weren't cutting it anymore, I found Sundown (okay, I knew of them since the beginning but I was training at a different CF box). They had a COVID special when they opened in July, and I only found out in August. I jumped in on it since the yoga studio that I was eyeing wasn't opening any time soon indoors, I decided to plunge into Crossfit when I was used to doing 30-45 min mini-CF sessions. I found out that 60 mins of CF was not too different from my 45 mins sessions so I adjusted easily. However, I injured my back soon because I was that deconditioned. I didn't know if I could commit to the gym, but I found myself getting to know the community and coaches and that it was okay to scale everything down to doable movements and reps. So I stuck through and signed up for 3x/week membership. I knew I couldn't come in more than 3x, so this worked perfectly for me. I also thought about doing the punch card, but I knew 3x/wk membership would commit me to come every week at this interval. I am somewhat able to recover so this was good for me. The gym expects us to clean up our equipment after use and mop our workout area. This is great, because it's way too difficult for any staff to truly clean everything after everyone. I love how we all contribute to keeping the gym clean. We've been working out outdoors still, and hopefully at some point we can return indoors when it gets super cold. However, the coaching and community have been so great that I'm fighting through the cold with the regulars. Registering for classes are easy, and now that they have more classes, hardly anyone find themselves on the waitlist. However, the really early classes may have a waitlist so sign up early but cancel early to let others on the waitlist get into the class. You can also check SugarWOD to see the programs ahead of time, because sometimes you have to prepare your mind so much more than your body when it involves a chipper WOD or other long WODs. Suzie, the owner, is super sweet and really attentive. She's also really responsive to the members. And I believe the coaches are quite happy here which says a lot about the management. If you're looking for community-focused CF box, this is a great one to try. You can scale everything like me so that you don't feel pressured to deadlift 500 lbs. read more

If you want to try crossfit and have never done it before like myself, Sundown is a great place to start! Let me begin by saying I do not lift weights, have little upper body strength, and I doubt my ability to do 5 true push-ups. Crossfit and me are like oil and vinegar... we don't mix. But you know what? Sundown CrossFit made it work between us. My coach for the day was Jeff and he was awesome. Our class had 8 students with 3 newbies (myself included) and he showed us proper technique before all exercises from rowing to burpees and he had us show him our proper form before we dove into an exercise. Todd is the other coach and although I haven't been coached by him myself, I have heard he is equally as great. Additionally, the other people in my class were friendly with helping us newbies too. Before my first class, I was nervous because everyone I know who does crossfit seems to be a regular. If it hadn't been for the two coworkers joining me for class that morning, I most likely would have bailed. But I didn't and I am VERY thankful for that. The atmosphere at Sundown is welcoming and laid-back and everyone understands that you may be new, but they all started there too. Oh and don't let me forget about that workout. This place is rad! Nice big warehouse with plenty of room to accommodate a bunch of people. Coaches are great, workout is great and well programed with thoughtful warm ups. The thing I love about CrossFit is the competitive nature of the workouts and this place brings it! But not in a overwhelming way, just like most CrossFit gyms, you get out what you put in, if you want to be competitive, there are people to chase here, if not, that's cool too. Alright so let me start with saying I was a crossfit non believer. I thought it was a fad and was pretty closed minded on the idea of it. My boyfriend joined first and tried time after time to get me to join but I really did not care to. So one day we made a bet and part of it was to try Crossfit for a week. I complied to the bet and I lost and I ended up at Sundown Crossfit. My first impression: Small gym with a lot of poles and barbells (I'm use to the 24 hours set up). My first coach was Jeff and he went through the motions little by little and taught me how do the basics. Next coach I met was Todd who was also patient with my beginner status. The coaches have their own way of coaching for sure. Jeff is a bit more laid back with his teachings but still makes sure your doing the right motions. Todd has more a boot camp type of teaching. You never know what your warm up will be and pushes you to new extremes. I've only seen Suzie like twice and both times super informative in her training technique . Matt is a bit more chill but pushes you as well, but to me it doesn't matter who the coach is cause they are all awesome and at the end of the day they will all push you in a good way! Sometimes you need someone to yell at you to make yourself better! The rest of the members are supportive and always helping you out and cheering you on! It honestly feels like your working out with a group of friends that just want to help you. I'm lucky to say I go to this gym and I actually enjoy crossfit! It kicks my ass everyday and I'm sore all the time but it feels good to know that I'm getting stronger and fit by the day. It's been 7 months and I've reach new levels everyday! I definitely recommend this gym to everybody. Beginners and experienced athletes. The atmosphere is fun the coaches are always pushing you. If your on the fence the worst that can happen is that you end up sore from one hour of working out! read more

When we moved to NorCal about two years ago, we tried out multiple boxes in the area... but none of them really worked out... UNTIL... DUN DUN DUN... We stopped by at Sundown Crossfit! Coaches are awesome and the people who go to the gym are also awesome! Being new to the area and meeting new people is always a pain, but being part of this community made it so much easier! We've already found new Catan and Mah Jong friends! :D Programming here is great too. It's a good mix of warm ups, strength and conditioning, and metcons/IWT/go until you feel likes all your body parts are going to fall out workouts. Husband would like some more stretching... but... he's an old man, so his joints aren't moving as efficiently as they should =P haha Overall, great gym, people and programming. I have been coming here since their opening and I must say that the strides they have taken to make this place a better place is phenomenal. There are constantly new toys to play with and with the help of coaches and experienced crossfitters there next to me have allowed me to improve my weaknesses throughout the past 7 months. The classes are not too crowded so you can get good coaching and the people are vibrant and friendly. Anyone that is looking to change their fitness goals, this place I definitely recommend. Pro's: Good coaching, always something different to do each day, good looking people ;) They push you to grow and get better at a pace they know is suitable for your athletic ability and truly want to help the community. Cons: This is a con but a pro in itself. There is still much to do with the space they have. As for showers and what not, it is still on their to do list, but the potential the space allows them will be amazing once it is finished. read more

I am fairly new to this CrossFit affiliate, although I have had exposure to CrossFit training in years past. Every coach here takes the time to properly demonstrate the movements, and offer suggestions if they see clients needing to improve form in certain lifts. They are kind, respectful, and seem to push you to just the right limit to challenge you, but not completely deflate you. There is a wide variety of fitness levels at this CrossFit- the only person you compete against is, ultimately, yourself. The coaches are really nice but they will push you to try your absolute best. It's a very clean environment and the people that go are very nice and help encourage you too. Suzie has been a transformational trainer for the past year and has gotten me into the best shape I've ever been. My sciatica is 95% gone, pains and aches and headaches drastically reduced, I'm sleeping better, and people have noticed my better physique. Her approach covers not just exercise technique and nutrition but most importantly has a great understanding of habit out of exercise. She treated me with compassion and also provided concrete tools for staying on track. I'm picky about gyms because I want a balance of organized coaching, mobility work, and programming that is sensitive to the members. Before Sundown, I went to another xfit gym and ending up leaving because the coaching staff was difficult to work with. Sundown - has been a complete -180 and I have enjoyed every minute I have spent in the gym for the past 10 months. It's a great community of people who are working to make themselves better - mentally, physically, emotionally - everyone pushes each other and supports one another in the workouts. I have been working out at Sundown since the day they opened their door. I use to work out one on one in a CrossFit environment, never feeling confident to join the classes. Once Sundown started classes I decided to try them out (with a little push from the coaches). The coaches are truly there to make you better and support your goals. I have learned so much from Jeff and Todd the coaches there, along with other more experienced cross fitters. The members really make you feel like you are part of their family, the care about you and hold you accountable if you miss classes (if you want that). The times work out so well, I have a flexible schedule, but knowing if I have a meeting that there are other classes to make really help me not stress about not making it our being really late. The equipment is very nice and all new, I am always able to find what I need to get a workout with. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a place to get a good WOD in or even to learn CrossFit, you will truly become a member for life like me. read more
