I went to this store to get a new pair of mittens and the customer service was impeccable. While I was there I said one of my old mittens ripped and they swapped them out because of manufacturing defect. I will be back for more because they took the time out to above and beyond. I need to give a HUGE shout out and THANK YOU to Sundown Ski shop in Lake Grove for amazing customer service. I was heading out west and wanted to rent/demo some new skis for the trip. When I arrived to rent they had had very little inventory left (after all is was presidents weekend) and nothing available for me. YIKES -I was leaving the next day. The owner over heard this. He asked me what I was looking for - then he took a brand new pair of skis off the rack, added new bindings and gave me my rental for the week. Now that's what I call customer service! Really horrible customer servicing here. Whoever is the store manager should reevaluate the staff or retrain them. I get if you don't want to work but don't bring your nasty attitude into the work place with you or just quit your job and go work somewhere you don't have to deal with people. Very disappointed with the rental services here. The past two times I've called ahead before going to assure they had rentals available. After going to the shop (45 minutes from my house) and waiting over 20 minutes to be helped I've been turned away TWICE the past two times. All the workers are young and not experienced, also not helpful. After asking to speak to the manager the kid barely cared I was upset. I've done rentals here plenty of times but I will NEVER go back. Just bought skis from snowshed and had a great experience there. read more

I came to sundown just to browse for my snowboard trip I'm going on this weekend. Tom immediately came to help me with my needs. Hes a very nice gentlemen and has a hell of a wardrobe. Let me tell you, tom knew the answer to everything. He even referenced an excellent food spot right up the road. I walked out with a brand new snowboard set up because of him and I couldn't be happier. The rest of the employees kind of sat around watching tom as if he was a God of his work. Like it was pistachio painting a painting. What a wonderful man. I'll be doing all of my shopping at sundown for now. And if I'm put of food ideas I know exactly who to talk to. If you are going into sundown to purchase something or even just want a nice conversation. Ask for tom. read more

Not coming back here again. I am an avid skier, but stopped in to get snowboard rentals for my boyfriend and I (it was both our first time). The kid who set us up said, "I know nothing about snowboarding." He couldn't even tell if a board was goofy or not... with that said, I arrived at the mountain and the instructor had to set up my bindings properly and then said that my bindings were way too big with boots that were basically falling apart. I managed, but it's unbelievable the lack or care and knowledge provided at sundown. Their rental prices are competitive, but I guess you get what you pay for. On the bright side, my skis were great demos (I have my own boots), but for those who know nothing about snow sports, I would advise on renting elsewhere. read more

Can't say enough about this shop. Great selection and sales. I had bought a new pair of high end ski boots about a year prior to this season at this store and they worked and fit great. So at the beginning of this season I decided it was time for a new pair of ski's as well, being that mine were 10+ years old. Found a great pair of K2's on sale here for almost half price and they were one of the pricier models. So I brought my year old boots into the shop to have the bindings fitted. That's when they discovered that the boots were two different sizes and they had made a mistake. I didn't notice since they fit just fine, not to mention that the sizes were in metric and I never looked to see what size they were. Anyhow, the manager Rich told me I could choose a BRAND NEW pair of boots in the same price range for free. The boots were in the $400-500 range. You can imagine how ecstatic I was. Walked out of the store with all new high end gear for just the price of a pair of skis ($350) which were half off. So if you are in the market for ski's or a new board they will certainly take care of you here. read more

I went to sundown to get snowboard gear rentals for a day and my experience was unprofessional, unpleasant and caused me to not ride properly during usage. They gave me the wrong size boots, board and bindings. Unfortunately I didn't notice the wrong size bindings until the day of usage. I would not recommend this rental place to anyone, especially anyone new to this sport. The rep took measurements of my feet but gave me boots that are 2 sizes too big, I then asked for my size and the next pair is boots were damaged. Okay great, after 15 minutes, he gave me a good pair of rental boots. Next he got me a snowboard that was too short for me, it does not reach my chest, he called it "perfect". I just laughed, haha no way would that work, any snowboarder would know that's way too short, the board should reach your chin. Then the rep took down the degrees I like my bindings, and after waiting 30 mins for adjustments, they were not adjusted properly, I asked for them to fix it and that took another 20 mins. After waiting over 1.5 hrs, I just wanted to get out of there. Little did I know that the bindings were too big for my boots. Thus the day of the ride, my boots were floating in these large bindings and I could not control my board. I would not waste my money and time at this place again. When I returned my board I spoke with a supervisor and got a refund for my rental. Thus I changed my one star rating to two. Still won't recommend their rentals though. read more

Second time visiting here. First time, wandered around, no one asked if I needed help, which obviously I did, left after 10 minutes. Today I went to purchase new snowboard equipment. The man helping me made it seem like I was a bother and that he was not interested in finding a good boot for me. After trying on 2 pairs, I felt that I should let this guy get back to more important things... I went upstairs to purchase a helmet and stood at the rack trying on different helmets. A woman (I'm assuming the manager) and a salesgirl were there discussing arrangement of other helmets. Not once was I asked if I needed help, which again, obviously I did. I will not be going back and have advised my family to do the same. read more

I rented snowboards for a 3 day vacation. After coming home early due to a wrist injury, I brought the snowboards back a day early hoping for a refund on one day. The salesman denied me a refund because "their system cannot do returns." Really? What kind of system does not allow returns. Never coming back. read more

On December 18, 2019, I went to the Lake Grove NY location with my daughter to purchase a new snowboard, bindings, and boots. We were directed to go downstairs as the employees downstairs deal with purchasing of such items. There was ONE male employee fitting 2 customers for ski rentals. Another male walked out of the back room and was helping another rental customer. A family with 3 young kids walked down the stairs as a tall older white male employee walked out of the back room. The tall male employee walked over to the family and started helping them with ski rentals and costs for ski tune ups. I was amazed that the tall older male employee just disregarded that me and my daughter were standing there waiting to be helped. Another male employee walked downstairs, starting his work day. One of the female employees from upstairs came downstairs and started to talk with him. There conversation had nothing to do with work!! Both the female and male walked upstairs. The male helping the 2 males with rentals asked the other male employee where there male co-worker was - his response was "I have no idea." After about 40 minutes waiting to be helped , my daughter and I left!! I immediately drove to Sun and Ski located in Plainview at exit 48 LIE. We were helped by professionals and bought a complete snowboard, bindings, boots package. Your loss Sundown ...I will never step into that business again !! You lost a customer and then some!!! read more

Went to Sundown to shop their end of the season sale for the second year in a row. While I hoped for a bigger selection of fun, printed coats, I expected to run into this issue being it is the end of the season. However, the sales girl who helped me was friendly and really tried her best to find me something in my size that I liked (even to the extent of calling other locations and asking about coats from memory). Both times I visited the store the sales girls have been very knowledgeable and friendly. I'm definitely going to make sure I stop in there at the beginning of the season next year for a bigger selection of jackets. read more
