It had been years since I'd been her, even though I live just a couple miles away. I decided to grab lunch here, so just sat at the bar. They do offer both indoor and outdoor seating, but it was a surprisingly blustery day for the Keys. Katelyn waited on me and was great! I just drank water, since I need to be functional this afternoon. I decided to start with tuna poke wontons and go from there. Wow! They were huge and the tuna was very fresh! This starter is definitely something that could be shared at a table. I was full since I finished them myself. I decided to take a few starters to share with neighbors. Katelyn kindly packed the warm and cold ones separately. I had two big bags! Everything was excellent. It was quiet, too, with only one lunch table with other guests. Located at 103900 Overseas Highway Key Largo, FL, it is a hidden gem. You'll miss the entrance if you blink for a second! My wife and I were out for a drive and decided to stop for a cocktail. We stumbled on Sundowners. We did not go into the restaurant. We went to the outside bar. We were stunned by the beautiful views and service. All of the staff were extremely friendly and laid back. There was live music and an incredibly relaxing ambiance. While we did not eat there, people seated outside and at the bar ordered food and it looked fantastic and plentiful. If you are a smoker, they allow smoking at the outside bar and sell cigars in the restaurant greeting area. We plan on returning soon to enjoy the food and friendly atmosphere. This is your typical hole-in-the-wall stop as you drive through the Keys. When we stopped in for drinks, there was a DJ who was so good everyone should've been dancing in their seats. It wasn't that kind of crowd at the time, but I bet happy hour jams here. Not a bad place at all for a quick pit stop. read more

The place is easy to find and easy to park in. We had reservations, but didn't need them because there weren't many people there. We waited a few minutes for the hostess and then went to find her. It was really awkward, as if she didn't know what we could possibly be there for. She just stood at the stand staring at us blankly, I interrupted her infinite pause and said "I'd like to have a table please, we have a reservation for the patio". A moment of clarity briefly came to her, and she called for someone to seat us. The young man then proceeded to welcome us to possibly the worst table on the near empty patio, at that point it dawned on me that this wasn't the place to spend $200 on dinner for 2. There's no shortage of restaurants in the area so we quickly and easily found a replacement. In short, this place is only known for 2 good things, the sunset view and key lime pie. Hence SUNDOWNers as their own name. We tried all the soups, lobster bisque, clam chowder, & conch chowder. The server Gabriel was awesome and attentive. He graciously blessed us with a complementary banana bread, before having their famous key lime pie. Which was extremely phenomenal bursting with so much flavor. Took the wife here on Mother's Day (5-10-26). Probably the worst service ever. Place was about half full and our waiter along with the chef spent about 70% of the time at a table on the patio. Service was slow, along with drink service. The appetizer, Shrimp go-cart was amazing. The wife had a Cuban sandwich and stated it was ok. I had the linguine pasta with scallops and Cajun sauce. Cajun sauce was flat with no flavor (maybe the chef should have been in the kitchen instead of bring plates to the VIP table), the scallops were good though. I will admit the sunset was amazing. We were going to have a dessert and an after dinner drink but we grew tired of waiting for service. I would not recommend and will try other sunset restaurants. We tried to have brunch here today but ended up leaving without ever being served. After waiting about an hour and a half, we followed up on our order and were told it was just then being prepared. We waited another 15-20 minutes, and the food still never arrived. Unfortunately, the manager did not seem very interested in resolving the situation. It also wasn't particularly busy, and there appeared to be plenty of staff available, which made the delay even more frustrating. Looking around, we noticed other tables were experiencing the same issue. Overall, a very disappointing experience. read more

Our first stop for dinner on our first night in Key Largo - did not disappoint! Sundowners has an excellent location right on the water to watch sunset. Service was so friendly from the moment we walked in - our waitress Nelly did an amazing job! She even came down to the pier when she saw us taking sunset pictures to offer to take a photo of us - so thoughtful! Loved the conch fritters and shrimp for starters. I had the seafood pasta in Tabasco sauce, great portion and very flavorful. Their key lime pie is huge and so good. We sat outside & the live music was so loud, off key, and off putting I literally could not think or hear the people at my table! Went there after touring the upper keys because it was close to our hotel. The sunset views are amazing and the docks provided different views. Our waiter, Sebastian, was awesome. He was laid back and not pushy. We shared calamari and a chopped salad and he recommended the Key Lime pie. My guy who loves it said it's the best he has ever had despite the mile high mound of merengue that was on it. Put it on your list if you haven't been there! read more

Ambiance being Ocean Side is good water side views. Service was good. AhiTuna appetizer was not good & tasted fishy So I ask for lemons =1st time in over 20yr of eating ahi tuna to use lemons. Terrible service with a great view. I ate there this weekend and the service was bad. Various waitresses attempted to drop off other people's drinks and food at our table approximately 15 times. I was literally looking for a camera thinking I was on some sort of hidden camera show. A table of 4 sat behind us and a waitress tried to bring them a dirty martini THREE times. They clearly said they did not order a dirty martini every time. Finally, on the third time, they asked if the 4 drinks the DID order were coming and the waitress says "How would I know where your drinks are? Do I look like your waitress? No, I'm not your waitress. Ask your waitress, not me." WOW. We had ordered fish, which was served so dry, we added ketchup to it, which was already on the table. Not a big deal, but when a filet is $44, it needs to be cooked to perfection. We had ordered a potato with it, and got rice instead. It just amazes me literally everything went wrong here. It's such a nice location with beautiful sunsets. They just literally need to learn how to serve food. read more
