Terrible service with a great view. I ate there this weekend and the service was bad. Various waitresses attempted to drop off other people's drinks and food at our table approximately 15 times. I was literally looking for a camera thinking I was on some sort of hidden camera show. A table of 4 sat behind us and a waitress tried to bring them a dirty martini THREE times. They clearly said they did not order a dirty martini every time. Finally, on the third time, they asked if the 4 drinks the DID order were coming and the waitress says "How would I know where your drinks are? Do I look like your waitress? No, I'm not your waitress. Ask your waitress, not me." WOW. We had ordered fish, which was served so dry, we added ketchup to it, which was already on the table. Not a big deal, but when a filet is $44, it needs to be cooked to perfection. We had ordered a potato with it, and got rice instead. It just amazes me literally everything went wrong here. Worst restaurant in the keys. Seems nice because of the location and has great views, but the food is absolute trash. The mussels has an aweful taste to them and the white wine had not cooked off in the juice. The appetizers were frozen prior and just thrown in oil. Everything was terrible. Took the wife here on Mother's Day (5-10-26). Probably the worst service ever. Place was about half full and our waiter along with the chef spent about 70% of the time at a table on the patio. Service was slow, along with drink service. The appetizer, Shrimp go-cart was amazing. The wife had a Cuban sandwich and stated it was ok. I had the linguine pasta with scallops and Cajun sauce. Cajun sauce was flat with no flavor (maybe the chef should have been in the kitchen instead of bring plates to the VIP table), the scallops were good though. I will admit the sunset was amazing. We were going to have a dessert and an after dinner drink but we grew tired of waiting for service. I would not recommend and will try other sunset restaurants. We got a "choose your own pasta" which was scallops scampi on Angle hair pasta. It cost $44 and we only got 4 small scallops on the pasta. And it was not very flavorful. Don't waste your time. Yes that is raw salmon you see... I was VERY disappointed with my experience here, and it wasn't just the salmon to cause it, but it was what topped it off. While me and my party sat there we didn't get ANY service until 30 minutes of sitting at the table, no waters, no silverware, no servers to be seen. Finally, after we met our server, and by that point we put in all our appetizers and our mains to which we received all of it an hour later...cold and raw. Adding to that, it was very disappointing not getting our appetizers before our meal consider how hungry we were and we never received the banana bread that is offered to all tables in the beginning to hold you over before your food. The ambiance at Sundowners is one of peace, calmness, and happiness. I know I sound corny, but it's true for us. All problems are forgotten. I love it. The view was beautiful and our waitress was great. My husbands shrimp and grits was wonderful, probably the best he's ever ordered. I split an omelet with my pop, nothing impressive about it. The ham, peppers and onions were burnt and it came out room temp. It took close to 40 minutes to get our food and it wasn't busy. It did get busy after we got our food and there was another family that showed up when we did that left because they hadn't gotten their food after 45 minutes-we were actually finishing up ours when they decided to leave. The location, not only on the shores of Key Largo Bay but actually extending right over it can't be beaten. I can only imagine the magnificent views of the sunsets it must offer. The menu is rather typical of the bar menus of the area. Grilled Mahi Mahi. Grouper, Snapper, and Hog Snapper as a platter or as sandwiches. Then fish and chips, burgers, a churrasco steak with chimichurri, smoked fish dip, calamari, etc. It's a pretty good-sized menu. I went for the bacon-wrapped scallops with a sweet chili sauce dip. They were OK, but nothing exceptional. My partner went for some fish fingers which came very much overly breaded. The setting of Sundowners is the draw, The food is not. Arrive right before sunset after a day at the beach. We were seated quickly and our server greeted us with the specials, one of which was the stuffed Hogfish. I'm glad I tried it because it was delicious! With a generous amount of surprisingly flavorful fluffy white rice and perfectly cooked veggies, I couldn't be more satisfied with a meal. The sample platter was also incredibly flavorful without being greasy. The seafood was of course very fresh and seasoned to perfection. And although unusual to get a burger at a seafood place, we were pleasant surprised at how good the burger quality was.
