Worst experience of my life. We were visiting friends who live in Key Largo. Last night we were seated outside. It was 4 of us plus my 18 month old son. The waiter made a conscious effort to ignore us. He did not greet us nor did he bring us waters. A table sat down 15 minutes after us and he ran to their table and got them drinks. We informed several members of the staff that we had not been served - this was 30 minutes into sitting at the table. Still the waiter did not serve us. This was at 8:30 PM. We all got up and started walking to the door to leave. I went directly up to the waiter (man in his 50s/60s wearing glasses) and told him that what he did was the rudest thing I had ever seen in my life! He snapped at me and said "The door is open. I just work here. Enjoy your vacation!" Wow. He admittedly refused us service because we had a small child. I suggest management fire this waiter immediately. He is a disgrace to the food service industry. This was the most insulting experience of my life. All we wanted were drinks and a nice quiet dinner. We went to Mrs. Macs Kitchen instead where we were met with happy faces and delicious food. My friends who live here will never go to this restaurant again. Worst experience! read more

Very disappointing. We came for the view and to have some appetizers. We ordered the conch fritters, fried calamari and key lime pie. The conch fritters were more bread then anything. The fried calamari were very bland, not fresh, tiny and mostly batter. The key lime pie tasted like it has been in the refrigerator for days. Not fresh at all. Merengue was runny. Good stuff! Yes I would like the place better if all that they served wasn't hanging on the wall, but the food was very good. Apparently, you can see the most awesome sunset here, as the name implies, and even feed the fish--which will probably then be served the next day at the restaurant. The quality of food was not worth the money. Yellowish old lettuce greens mixed into my salad, husband liked the mahi-mahi but wished the ratio of fish to chips was higher. Thunder and lightening moved in and waiter was quite relaxed about getting us our check. read more

It's kinda a tourist joint but is right on the water with great views. Nice outdoor seating and a few cats hanging around. They don't have any beer on tap which is never good but a lot of bottle beer. As for food had the blacked fish sandwich with fries which I did not think was to great, just ok. Well the food was good I'll give it that, but the staff there, at least the guy who served my girlfriend and me was really rude and unqualified. We waited for nearly 40 mins without even water on the table, he keeps ignoring us the whole time we were in the restaurant and never asked us "how's the food" and whatnot, we had to ask another waitress to help us call him to order for us. He didn't even give us plates or forks until we asked for them after the dishes were up. And he doesn't even look at you when you are talking to him. read more

We had a reservation for 6:15. By 7:20 we still had no bread and none of the other items we ordered. David the waiter was very scarce during all this time and i suspect he was delivering food to tables who had arrived long after us. As we entered the restaurant we were asked if we would like inside or outside seating. We asked for outside and were led to a table by the water. A few minutes later we were asked to move because the owner and his party had reserved that table which was set for 6. His party arrived and instead of using that table moved 1 table over which made our original table available. Not so. A party of 4 were seated. Our food and bread finally arrived after a wait of 1 hr 15 min. 3 of us had the kabobs and one ha the shrimp cocktail and onion rings ( the latter was fine) but 6 shrimp were way over priced at $ 16.99. The other 3 orders were over-cooked and all were very burnt. I had no scallops which was part of the dish, everyone's meat was over cooked and very chewy. In reading previous reviews of this place these factors appear to be a common problem with this place. I guess I should have read YELP before we went in. I discussed this with greeters at the front who said they would relay my comments to management who may call me. read more

Awesome place!!! I went a few days ago with a wedding party of about 30 people on a Friday night... Firstly, the view is beautiful. Don't waste your time eating inside because the outside is amazing. The service was impeccable... we had a party of almost 30 people, only 2 wait staff served us but, they were amazing!! So accommodating and worked super fast... Working there butts off. I was surprised that all of our food came out at the same time and everything was hot. The food was absolutely amazing!! I had the special which was a creamy pesto seafood pasta. Delicious!!! Scallops, shrimp, and mahi mahi. I have never had scallops or mahi mahi before and I really don't like fish but it was amazing and cooked to perfection! Also, their little fruity drinks are delicious ... I had the keys sunset and the volcano both very good but, really sweet. I didn't need more than two drinks. Lastly, the key lime pie. It was absolutlely mouth watering. It was so light and delicious but, very rich with flavor at the same time. And finally, because it was a Friday night they had live music. This guy was great!! We own a property in the keys & go there a lot by boat and loved being able to park the boat and stop for some appetizers. After a couple of months of not passing by yesterday taking a night ride with my husband & another couple we decided to stop and show our friends the place. The dock was completely redone & I was super excited to pick at some appetizers. Little did I know, my excitement was over quicker than expected. We arrive around 9:20pm granted close to closing but still no excuse for the following..... We ordered dozen of Oysters... waiter came back with sorry no oysters. We order fried calamari.... they arrived at the table stale. We asked if they could please have fresh one made because you can tell they had been sitting out for a while by the texture.... waiter came back sorry no more calamari. We ordered 2 orders of conch fritters & I swear they came out so black that you can tell the oil was already time to change. We then ordered a $35 filet mignon from the dinner menu which was smaller than expected, side needed to be purchase separate... super pricey for the quality! && lastly I order fried mahi mahi strips & I swear to you the first strip that I had was a chicken strip! While the other 4 strips were mahi mahi. && with all this... a $160 bill! Needless to say, sorry Sundowners you've just lost a customer. read more

Sundowners used to be the gold standard in the keys for dinner, not anymore. They have cheapened their food to the point that it is terrible and not worth eating there. I noticed that the price has gone up but the quality is just ridiculously bad. Bring back the prime beef as well as the wild shrimp and seafood, not that farm raised crap. This was my second time at this establishment. It's sits right on the water with fantastic views of passing boaters, jet skiers, and kayakers. Immediately upon entering, the wait staff told us to pick our own table wherever we liked, so we sat outside at a table closest to the water. We weren't super hungry and it was only 11:00am, so I ordered a shrimp and grapefruit salad, and my mother ordered the wedge salad that had blue cheese and bacon, with a creamy dressing. The salads were good. I couldn't leave without having a piece of their famous key lime pie. It is the best I've had to date. It is soft, fluffy, and decadent. One piece is large enough to share. One person should not eat an entire slice by themselves unless they will be covering themselves with insulin immediately after. I almost failed to mention a greeting from Oscar. Apparently Oscar is the old man cat that hangs out around the place. He looks decrepit, but he is super friendly and affectionate. The staff all greeted him which was nice. If they scared him away I would have been upset. Anyway, check it out if you ever go to John Pennecamp State Park. It is right across the street and up about 1/4 mile from the entrance to the park! read more

We choose to eat dinner inside because it was a hot, sunny evening because we could sit with great view of the ocean, boats, and a wonderfully long sunset. Good, helpful service. We highly recommend the wickedly good Yellow Tailed Snapper cooked Island Style with their savory Cesar salad, as well as, the home made Mac N cheese. Have been to Sundowners twice now, once on the way down to key west last year and once on the way back this year. They have a gorgeous outdoor seating area overlooking the water and the food is delicious. I recommend the hot tin roof sandwich and the lobster bisque in a bread bowl. read more

Beautifully situated on a sunset dock with overpriced, underwhelming food. Relying mostly on their real estate and creative cocktails, Sundowners is a notch or two above a clam shack, food wise. I did like the artichoke but the lobster was tiny. I also lose respect for seafood restaurants that have melted cheese with fish dishes. Only land locked tourists would eat that stuff. Another selling point for the tourists is their 'Feed The Tarpon' campaign. Great for kids but you have to watch that they don't fall into the water and become dessert. read more

The setting is fantastic. The place is lively, good for kids, and has a huge outdoor seating area. There was live music playing, and the night we were there, there was a dog's yappy hour (to adopt a dog; dogs are welcome also). The conch fritters were the best we had in the Keys. The key lime seafood over pasta was delicious. Also, the crab cake set itself apart from others in the Keys. It was excellent. And for dessert, Key Lime Pie. I have tried a few key lime pies and this one was top three. Very good. The Hemingway cocktail was fantastic, as well. It was walking distance from the hotel (Marriot Key Largo). This place was amazing...they even make their own ketchup from scratch. The key lime pie was like nothing I've ever tasted. We ate at many different places, and this was by far the best, possibly within the top 5 places I've ever eaten. Our waiter was Alfredo, and he had a passion for the food and decor which was amazing. We have been back from Key Largo less than a day and have already bragged on this place to 10 people...if you're in Key Largo you must go! read more

Great place. We were able to get a table outside, and sunset was breathtaking! Service could have been much better. When our server finally got to us, she took our entire order at once. Would have loved a drink while looking over the menu. The Spinach and Artichoke appetizer had zero flavor. Our main courses came out before we'd finished our appetizer, and no one removed the appetizer, or even asked if they should! I had the Key Lime Seafood, and it was incredible! Huge shrimp, fresh crab...just outstanding. My fiancé had the Filet Mignon (I know), and he raved about it. It was perfect! We shared the Key Lime Pie, and, honestly, I've had better. Seaside, harbor-view, water front establishment at the key, a group of us drove by and found this place, well-packed for a Saturday evening. It is whats advertised, a sunset viewing spot with unblocked outdoor seafood at the Key dinning Experiences. As popular as it can get, it comes with all the cons on a busy joint. Average food, high-priced menu and slower than normal service time. We have a friendly smiling waiter who made our time there very comfortable but for all the food and its worth, i cannot recommend it to average common touring guests. There is a rackomondium right next to this place, has a better offerings as far as the view. However, still an average restaurant where everyone could go there once and not get disappointed. read more
