I've tried every nail salon in NOVA, and have never found one that I LOVE. Three things I rate based on are: - Price - Quality - Service This place has all three. Soooooo last night, I received this response to my review on yelp. ZERO accountability. Time to start naming names. As long as I had been going there, I have never once been rude or difficult. Regardless of what my nails looked like underneath, Mimi did not paint the whole nail, as the pictures clearly showed. She was combative and yelled back at me instead of understanding my concern, and I had to go get them redone 2 days later because they were chipping so much. I did not deserve to be treated the way I was, and she knew this because she did not want to give me my receipt. At this point, I don't need anything but to create awareness. I will not be back in that establishment again. This response is more degrading than the service. They were better off saying nothing. I was floored when I saw this. Stopped by sunflower nails after seeing the pictures and I'm happy with my design and friendly small neighborhood nail shop. The staff is friendly and open to catering specific designs! The prices are very are comparable to most shops. I got a classic pedicure with sugar scrub & wax for $45 and a full set and design for $70. I had an amazing pedicure! The sugar scrub massage was sensational. I felt my nerves and skin thank me. Not only did my feet get pampered but my back was enjoying the massage chair. I really love my nail design. She was very detail-oriented and gave me what I asked for. She took her time in shaping and made sure they looked perfect. The only reason I rate them a 4 star is that I sadly did get cut a few times. She did apologize for cutting me which I appreciated. I LOVE this place! The first time I had Jennifer, and she was hilarious, I've never had a funnier nail tech. She also took the time to get the base color and chrome right for a frenchie set I got. Second and third time I've had mimi and mimi does AMAZING sets!! The only thing that could slightly use improvement is how she took the acrylics off, which was laborious and painful and could've used more soaking than trying to rip the nail off right away, but I will absolutely still go back to her. There's no reason I should have to wait 35 minutes for someone to start working on me, only to have it not even be the person my original appointment was with. I had a 2:15 appointment with Mimi and she's been busy working on someone else for the past 35 minutes. I called at 10am on a Friday and got in at 1030am for French gel mani and reg pedi. Clean salon, services were $72 and took 2 hours, would absolutely go back. They played old school R&B which I LOVED! Ann was my tech and she was great, very kind. (They usually just make them super thin). The whole team here always makes sure my brows have a good shape while respecting the fullness I like as well. Okay, let's start off with the accommodations made by Mimi were so hospitable!!!! I called on a whim looking for a new salon. This is a hidden gem. Mimi is amazing and an artist at hand. I started with a Brazilian wax. Mimi was so patient, attentive to detail and soooo GENTLE. She has been waxing for 7 years plus. Definitely a professional. Next I got a polish change on my toes and that again was done extremely well by Mimi. Lastly my nails!!! It's my birthday week, and I wanted long nails done with SNS. I usually get gel and but this time I wanted tips with SNS. Mimi again executed... she went above and beyond. Everything she does is over the top from customer service to treating a person with love. I have been looking for a nail place everywhere. I happened to use Yelp this time around. I had three non negotiables. Must be clean, friendly and offer a variety of nail services. In months of moving here getting all three has been extremely difficult. Sunflower Nails was very pleasant on the phone. They do walk in service but I know Sundays can be hectic. I made an appointment and showed up a few minutes before the appointed time. It was moderately busy but the environment seemed very relaxed. I checked in and went to the wall of nail polishes. I was looking at the colors and I realized two minutes went by with out being ushered away from the colors. I was given the time and space to look at the colors. I was so surprised. Anyways, I let the Hostess know I had found my color. The first of two services. Pedicure. Area was clean with usual massage chair set up. I was happy the tech did not turn it on. They often hurt my back. I was handed a menu of services. I decided on the pedicure with sugar scrub. The Technician was a older woman. She was extremely detailed and gentle. I have to note I did not ask for a paraffin wax treatment. I had actually declined it. However at this point I had been pampered enough to just hand over wallet. I wasn't complaining. lol The final service was a refill. Now! It's so unfortunate I did not get the Pedicure Technician's name. That same level of attention, detail, and gentleness continued in the second service. I couldn't find a gel color match, she spent four minutes looking and finding a substitute color. The nail tech Vicky did such a great job. By the time she going to paint my nails, I almost didn't want her to do it. They looked great with just the clear base. She had completely reshaped and rebuilt the acrylic. I wish had taken a photo. She cared about her work, and it showed! I was coming in for a fill and pedicure expecting the minimum and got allot more. End of Service. Okay here comes the grand total. My refill, gel color, spa pedicure and paraffin treatment came to $90.00. Now before you say it, I would probably agree with you. Most other places this would have been $70-75. You get what you pay for! I received excellent service. I didn't feel uncomfortable at anytime. I was never rushed and neither was service provided. Use to love this place!! But it has gone down hill. Took 2 1/2 hours for 2 pedicures and 1 dip. They had me soak off my dip nails in the acetone for 2 hours! They took 2 ppl before me that I got so frustrated n asked them just to take it off and I don't want them re done. We heard a guy on the phone to tell a lady to come at 7. She showed up at 645 and he lied straight to her face and said they couldn't get her in and no one told her to come at 7. They dropped one of the pedicure tools on the ground and still used it. Just avoid this place unless you have all the time in the world because it is not the same anymore Edit per the business owners response. Her leaving is irrelevant to my review. In fact she took someone else before me while I had an appt ....finished her nails and she took someone else instead of me when I had already been there for an hour n 45 minutes with my nails soaked in acetone n she started another girls nails (who just walked in n waited 15 minutes) n told her she had to go n to come back tomorrow. First time client, wanted to try it out since I saw the reviews and said why not- definitely won't be back First and foremost, I didn't get seated until 41 minutes after my original appointment time. I was almost about to get up and leave but finally someone acknowledged me. After I got seated, not a single apology and the lady who serviced me was being very rough and had slight of an attitude. I was cut by the nipper on my small toe and she clearly knew she cut me, but didn't say anything. She was also handling my toes in a rough manner, like shoving my feet and pulling slightly aggressive. Never in my life this has happened, I'm a huge pedicure goer and she was not pleasant or had any customer service skills. As they started the paraffin wax and oil massage, I stopped and said, "hey--wait. Which pedicure is this?" They said, "It's the Classic with Sugar Scrub." I was blown away. ALL THIS FOR $45?!?!?!? Best salon in Alexandria. I've been going to Sunflower for the past three years and can confidently say I won't be going to any other salons! It's always so warm and welcoming. I always get a full set SNS and occasional gel pedicures and they never fail to execute exactly what I ask for. They always manage to fit me in last minute.
