SERVICE: I knew I wanted lashed but I didn't know what kind to start with, so she gave me some recommendations and showed my previews of fake lashes to compare to put on eyelash extensions for me. She talked about what looked great for my eye shape and told me what length and volume would go great for the lashes. So, she laid me down and she got started by putting the eye strips under my eyes to prevent the lashes to get glued onto my eyelids. Throughout the whole procedure, it wasn't irritating or itchy, it wasn't painful and it was relaxing, she put on music the whole time too. I would say it would take approximately 1 hour, but an extra 30 minutes because she wanted it to look even better. RESULTS: After her service, the lashes were great, they were glued perfectly. It was a little irritating because I'm not used to eyelash extensions but she made sure to fix everything and made sure I was comfortable. My lashes extensions length were 14-15, and they were thick and long. I really liked them better than my falsies. Also she gave me tips to take care of them and how to ensure it will stay on longer. Her name is Star, and she is really amazing. I got to learn more about her life as she did my eyelashes. She's super legit and got all her training and license done, she got picture frames of proof on her walls. She moved from Canada and is a single Mother, she really is a great person. Once every blue moon, I must leave my hibernation cave and look presentable for an important event…read more The kind that requires more than just washing my face...and maybe brushing my hair. This event was one of my closest friend's weddings where I was also going to be giving a speech. No wallflower girl or invisibility cloak will help this girl, except for a makeup artist guru. Trying to find a good makeup artist is fairly easy I feel. But finding a great makeup artist who really knows how to bring out all the best of one's feature...that's a feat. Thank goodness for Cherry of Sessions Makeup. Cherry was recommended to me by a dear family friend. My friend told me she knows I will love Cherry. If this review looks too long, this is the TLDR version: Cherry is a phenomenal makeup artist, a guru, who knows how to bring out the best features in people through her art, and her energy is magical. Have faith in her skills and know one will walk away in the end feeling beautiful and confident. Here's my longer review: I hesitated to make an appointment, only because I am not one to have my makeup done professionally, and it was just nerve wrecking, especially for someone who is makeup-illiterate and also has low confidence. My brain would say: "how could any makeup possibly fix something that is not pretty nor beautiful?" Eventually panicking as my friend's wedding approached, and knowing I wasn't going to become makeup literate in less than a week, I scheduled an appointment with Cherry. I appreciate so much how organized Cherry is from the start with the appointment time, location information, and deposit information. I knew exactly what to expect, because I even asked her follow up questions about the makeup session. From the moment I stepped into Cherry's studio, the energy of her joy, passion, enthusiasm, love for her craft, and infectious laughter was lovingly contagious. Cherry is so compassionate, warm, and has a way of making one feel completely at ease, and to put fear aside and trust Cherry and her process. Did I also mention how genuine and kind she is too! I let Cherry know the wedding was going to be outdoors, and despite the ceremony being in the evening, it was one of the hottest days of the summer in Orange County, CA. Cherry listened to my concern and told me not to worry if I was afraid that my makeup would melt. She said the makeup would actually do just fine and be dewy, in the good kind of way, if I did sweat. Cherry then proceeded to ask me what kind of makeup I wanted. I told Cherry that all I knew was that I loved the winged liner look and for her to highlight my eyes. Everything else, I told her to do her magic and gave her free creative reign. Cherry definitely has all the skills and talent up her sleeves. She is meticulous and pays attention to detail. She is also a perfectionist, in a good way. Several times I teared up as she was applying my liner, and that's because I am super sensitive to eye liner, but also at the time, I was suffering from allergies, hence the watery eyes also didn't help. Cherry fixed my eyes constantly because the tears would mess them up. As soon as she was able to get my eyes to dry completely with a little fan, she nailed the winged liner look I wanted, and made it infinitely better with what she called a "soft winged liner". Cherry took her time applying foundation and all the other amazing makeup tools in her arsenal of weapons. At the end of the session, I actually walked away feeling so beautiful, so glamorous, and yet knew it was still me staring back from the mirror. That night and in the pictures, I received so many kind compliments about my makeup. Many of my friends told me my makeup was glamorous and also natural, which is the best kind of compliment. And the real test too...my makeup was still PERFECT 11 hours later. My makeup withstood emotional crying at the wedding, sweating through the heat, and yet at the end of the day, my face remained flawless. Cherry's price is also reasonable. From what I know as of July 2024, the price for professional makeup in Orange County, CA ranges from $100-$250. With that being said, I would 10/10 recommend Cherry in a heartbeat, especially for those who need to look flawless and beautiful for any special occasion. A hundred years ago I was a swimsuit model and dealt with lots of makeup artists. Cherry is top of the top. I hired her for my wedding, which was a smaller beach wedding that we put together in about 5 weeks (please see my other reviews for all the services we used). The outcome was gorgeous- and Cherry was a major part of making it so. Although our wedding was an impromptu and less formal affair, I still wanted a some very high quality services such as hair, makeup, flowers & food. After lots of research I found Sessions Makeup on Yelp and looked at Cherry's work and who she works with. She kicks butt for national pageant contestants, she works on professional models as well as brides and the like. Everyone she does looks beautiful and flawless. Her makeup is matched and perfect to the face. Sessions Makeup is not inexpensive, however, for a quality professional that is what you do. We started off with the test makeup, I had photos of what I thought I wanted but it ended up looking too heavy & dark. We worked around and played with it for a little bit and we came up up with a beautiful palette. Her skills are amazing. It is easy and fun interacting with Cherry as she was so aware of my thought process and my evolving vision. In the couple of weeks before my day, Cherry checked in with me several times, helping me to prepare. "Get some little eye gel patches" she said, "and put them on your eyes on the morning of the event". I forgot and she had them and did it for me. "Drink lots of water and get some good sleep" she said. Things that you'd think you would remember to do, but with everything going on I didn't and to have her in the background coaxing me along was simply wonderful. The wedding plans were fluid with regards to location and time until I was able to lock things in, and Cherry was always available to talk or text and she worked with me easily so it flowed well. The morning of my wedding I was setting up flowers and table cloths, and napkins at Pete's and of course it always takes longer than you think. We had planned to start at 9 I couldn't get back to the suite until 9:20, so Cherry had gone and set up everything beautifully. She had relaxing music on so when I came back, I fell into a state of calm and happy. I sat back in the directors chair that she brought, and let her do her magic. Now, aside from all her excellent work and talent. She possesses a true and unfettered demeanor and handled herself like an absolute pro regarding what happened with my hair stylist. My hairstylist, (and again, please read the review) was absolutely insane. I have been going to her for years which made us friends, but that makes no difference when someone is hired to do a job. She blew in late like a tornado, with crap falling all over out of her bins, not dressed, no make up on and swearing and carrying on about some one in her family. Then she had the nerve to come up to Cherry and ask her if she if she really wanted to use that particular make up for whatever Cherry was doing on my eyes at the moment. I would've liked to bite her but Cherry handled it so eloquently, and kindly, she simply said "Oh, it's waterproof" and turned up the music louder and said "Breathe my bride, breathe" and she had me back in a good place. As you can see from the photos, my make up was absolutely spectacular. I felt beautiful and full of joy and thankful because Cherry was such a good "balancer "and had such positive effect on everything.
