Bought an order of the beef musubi (2 pieces) which came out to $6.49. As you can see, the portion is smaller than any other place I've ever ordered from. Tastes good as is but I wouldn't buy it again. Went into the bathroom to fix my hair & lost my appetite I mean, you can tell they clean it every so often buuuut still not up to restaurant standards. It's dingy & the Restroom Door Does Not Lock!!! Safety & privacy hazard!!! They have a giant sign saying to knock before you enter....now we all know why Cashier was pleasant. The burger tasted OK, , but the meat was very tough. The eggs were so over done, it was ridiculous. You are supposed to be able to "pop" the egg yolks, as they drip over the rest of the food. These were solid, and the eggs themselves were hard as a rock. I couldn't even cut the eggs with a fork. I had to use a knife. Also, I asked for the gravy on the side, they put it on the plate, what little amount of watery gravy there was. I wish I would've gotten a picture of the food, but I didn't know I was going to be writing an updated review until after I started eating. The dining area looked OK, but as I was eating, I noticed that flies were flying around me. Looking around a little bit more, I saw that the walls were filthy, and then looking into the kitchen, there was a tub of soy sauce sitting underneath an absolutely filthy pot. I ordered the BBQ mix and Egg Rolls from this place. Despite the menu stating a 4-piece egg roll, both in person and on DoorDash, it actually comes with 5 egg rolls. I noticed that the portion size of chicken and short ribs in the BBQ mix was less compared to other Hawaiian BBQ joints in Sacramento County. There is one unisex restroom available. During my visit, I noticed one worker managing both the skillets and the register, while another was tending to the in-house BBQ. They appeared to be a father-and-son team. Good portions, Fair prices Since I made a special trip here for Blend I looked for a place to grab lunch while I was in the area. I found this counter-service restaurant serving Hawaiian food right next to Raley's. I placed my order for a Loco Moco and Spam Musubi. I love Loco Moco... perfect for lunch, dinner, or even as a breakfast. Took some time since it was made to order. The Loco Moco was okay except the fried egg was overcooked. No, no, no... it is supposed to be cooked sunny-side-up! The traditional Loco Moco should always feature runny sunny-side-up eggs! The idea behind it is to pop the egg yolk so it pours all over the rice. Anyway, the beef patty was placed on a bed of cabbage with not enough brown gravy (in my opinion)... the gravy makes all the difference! but they did give a generous scoop of rice. I split this plate lunch with the hubby. I liked the Mac salad. The Spam Musubi was huge (so much rice!). The order came with two pieces and my daughter ate the other piece. Friday, 7/16/2021 - order take out from Sunny Hawaiian BBQ restaurant off Folsom Blvd for dinner. Called them to put in my order. The man that picked up the phone to take my order was very nice. I had an old menu with the old prices. After I put in my order, he let me know the prices are incorrect on the menu I had and that the prices went up and let me know how much it is. I'm glad he let me know so that I wasn't caught off guard when I arrived to pay. It took about 15 minutes for them to make me my family meal order for 4. I arrived and the person at the cashier register was very nice. He provided 3 sauces of BBQ and Teriyaki. All the foods we ordered were good and cooked just right. We enjoyed our dinner. Over the weekend my boyfriend and I were hangry so we decided to stop in and order some grub to hold us over before seeing Christmas lights nearby. With the current state order we couldn't dine in, so we decided to place our order to-go and have date night in the car. Stepping in we were greeted by their sweet staff member and then placed our order. Sunny Combo~ This combo comes with your choice of meat, rice and 1/2 Gourmet salad. For the price it was a definitely a good bang for your buck, the portion was large.. but my BBQ Chicken was lacking flavor. And I'm sorry, but that "gourmet" salad was more like slaw, it was pretty basic and again lacking flavor. Egg Rolls~ My boyfriend and I thought they were just ok, pretty average, but the sweet & sour sauce at least helped liven them up a bit. My husband and I stopped by Sunny Hawaiian BBQ on a rainy Friday night when neither of us wanted to cook. We would usually order take out or delivery but coming out of the grocery store, we saw this place and thought we would give it try. I usually only eat Hawaiian barbecue maybe once a year when the craving strikes. But my husband is a huge fan. Both of us were left severely disappointed. We ordered one barbecue chicken entrée, one Katsu chicken entrée, and an order of spam musubi. The barbecue chicken was rubbery and had tons of fat, making most of it inedible. The chicken Katsu was 90% breading and, again, the parts that were chicken were extremely rubbery. I didn't try the spam musubi but my husband said it was just OK. I'm not a big fan of macaroni salad but this one tasted very bland and had no distinct flavor whatsoever. Pretty much the only thing that wasn't messed up in my mind was the white rice. The meal came with Mac salad and rice Their rice was pretty good and we loved the bbq chicken. The BBQ beef was good as well, but the meal was a lot thinner than we thought we would get. The kalua pork was flavorful, but too salty, and it made a huge mess in our bag. All of the juices spilled out of the box (or maybe it spilled from the bbq chicken?) and it wasn't fun to deal with in the car. This was my go to Hawaiian hole in the wall for a while but I haven't been here since earlier in the pandemic. I decided to stop on my way home since I was craving Hawaiian food but I have to say I was completely disappointed this time. I ordered loco moco and some crab rangoon. The crab Rangoon tasted like they forgot to add the crab so it was a bit bland. The issue with loco moco to go is the over easy egg cooking on the drive home so I specifically opened the container to mix the egg to crack the yolk into the rice and found it was completely cooked through. Not wanting to go back inside I decided to just head home. Once I got home, I found that not only was the egg completely cooked but there was so little gravy that there was nothing to mix with the rice. They also are now putting the hamburger patties on cabbage that made what little gravy there was even more watered down. It took me five minutes to get here from work. When I got inside, it was empty. I walked to the counter and told the cashier I was here for pickup. She said my order should be ready in about two minutes. I paid and took a seat while I waited for my food. This place is different from other Hawaiian BBQ places because those places give you two scoops of rice and one scoop of macaroni salad if you order their regular size, one fried egg and your patty covered with gravy. This place gives you one scoop of rice and one scoop of macaroni salad, two patties, two fried eggs, on top of some cabbage! Not bad at all for the price. However the patties were super dry and there wasn't very much gravy that was given to help that situation. The spam musubi was standard. No complaints there. Overall, quick, easy, and cheap. Every once in awhile, I like to indulge in my Hawaiian BBQ cravings. And the place that I remember being closest to my home was "L&L Hawaiian BBQ". And when I walked up to the building, I saw a new name, "Sunshine Hawaian BBQ". I was thinking to myself, this food better taste as good as "L&L". Well, let's just find out, shall we? Located in the Raley's shopping center directly on Folsom Blvd. in the College Greens neighborhood of Sacramento, there's a lot to choose from in this strip mall. You have a supermarket, a dollar store, a barber shop, a coffee shop, a bank, and several places to eat at. There's never a dull moment since it caters to college students, state workers, and everything in between. And this takes me to "Sunshine Hawaiian BBQ". Once I entered the establishment, I was the only customer in there. The guy at the counter didn't have much of a personality as he seemed as if he was very bored. But he did take my order which was the "Hawaiian BBQ Chicken" meal (for $6.99). This meal includes grilled boneless/skinless chicken complete with a side of white rice, macaroni salad, and coleslaw. I take the order to go and was also given teriyaki sauce to add later. One thing that is noticeably different between this place and "L&L" are the portions. I definitely remember that "L&L" never skimped on the chicken as there wasn't just enough of it to fill me up. Another thing was the macaroni salad; now I am one of those picky people that does NOT like eating warm macaroni salad. This stuff tasted as if it was heated for 10 seconds in the microwave and had that nasty lukewarm taste to it. Not to mention, it was a bit on the sour side and just didn't do it for me. The rice was okay but very standard and I had to dress it up with the teriyaki sauce to give it any flavor. And the slaw, well that's pretty much guaranteed to be hot since it lies there directly underneath the chicken. I am thinking this would be a fairly decent meal if everything was separated and not packed in there like a can of sardines in the styrofoam packaging. The chicken Katsu meal is delicious and such a good deal. Seriously, we can feed our family for less money than fast food! We typically do take out, so be advised that you need to get your own sauce. I didn't the first time we ordered out, so we ate dry chicken-but it was still very good. The potato macaroni salad is fantastic. If you aren't used to the Hawaiian style, I can see where it would seem a little offputting at first. But if you've had the real stuff on the islands or other Hawaiian restaurants, you won't be disappointed. It's flavorful, tangy, and delicious! I think I crave that as much as I do with the chicken!
