I ordered a plate of shrimp and grits with butter & grits. DELICIOUS!!! The music that they play in the restaurant is good, & the food is extremely affordable. There is a 3% charge to pay with a card, so it's advisable to have cash on hand if you are trying to save a little on your food. Sitting mid block on Ogontz Avenue in Northeast Philadelphia, Sunny Side Breakfast & Lunch is a Korean owned old school urban restaurant with six tables and a large takeout business. It is geared to the neighborhood, with only hit or miss street parking nearby. I found a spot on a side street, about a three minute walk to the front door. Certainly worth the hunt and stroll. Service was provided by the bright and cheery Melina, who guided me through the offerings and knew exactly how to suggest possible ways to accessorize the Veggie Omelet, Home Fries and Rye Toast I wanted. These included swapping spinach for broccoli in the omelet, adding cheddar cheese for comforting sharp meltiness, mixing grilled onions & green pepper on top of well done taters to add more texture and subtle flavor, and securing rye toast even though it was not on the menu. The small upcharges were well worth it. Even the large coffee in the take out container was only around two bucks and had the strong kick I desired. Loved everything. Omelet was substantial, moist and a pleasant chew. Special kudos to their home fries, which were crisp and delicious with the extra savories on top. True, they had a bit of grease cooked in, but the taste was amazing, and were about the best of breed I've had the pleasure to consume around these parts. Def not worth it. I ordered via Uber Eats for my family. 2 orders of pancakes. 1 order French Toast 3 orders Side of bacon. This was not worth the money spent. The pancakes were the size you order from a kids menu. And they were almost paper thin. Not thick and fluffy like you would expect pancakes to be. And greasy too. For the 3 side orders of bacon, there was a total of 10 pieces of bacon! Each side order was almost $5 each. Either I'm missing a side, or they are highly overpriced for 3.3 pieces of bacon. I've order the same amount of food at other breakfast spots for the exact same price, or less...and have gotten better quality and/or more food. A side of bacon for $5 included 6 pieces of bacon. So 3 sides of bacon was more than enough for my family. Save your time and money and go elsewhere. read more

Each time I order out, I'm expecting it to be good. I have a fav, Croissant & egg w/bacon and a juice. Now when I've ordered the egg over easy, It's messy but good. Customer service is abismal at best. Proceeded to yell at each other on the phone when I asked for a food substitution. To stop the yelling and unbelievable behavior, I just said give me the regular. First Time going there I went because I had heard such good things from coworkers. Food amazing BUT I WON'T BE BACK There is a limit clearly posted on the door 3 ppl inside during covid. There was already three people inside so I waited in the door way, waiting for someone to say hello to me so I can let them know I'm picking up my food. 1) they never said hello or anything to me until after 2 people walked in in front of me and picked up their food 2) they kept allowing people to walk in and would say hi to them, they pick up their wit food, leave, say hi to someone else that walked right in past me, same thing. I'm like hello I've been standing here .... also waiting to pick up food. 3) they allowed a customer to walk in without a mask. He jumped in front of me and asked is there a line? I replied, yes there is a line there's also a limit of how many people can be in the store which is why I'm waiting back here. The guy said calm down I ain't going to kill you and then proceeded to place his order or whatever with the worker. (So he still jumped the line ‍) So poor covid protocol poor customer service and on top of that they are literally calling my name and the girl with the attitude problem tells me it's not ready and tried to move on to the next person (who also jumped in front of me ) Good food. Clean and friendly atmosphere with music playing not too loudly. Take out or waitress service. Service was fast and friendly and food is delicious and fresh. Long story short, wife, baby and me waited FORTY MINUTES and got no food, bathroom door was broken and got barged in on, poor service, disrespected by staff, manager just watched and did nothing. I left and walked out. This was one of the worst restaurant experiences my family and I have ever had. My wife, 2 year old daughter and I arrived here for a quick breakfast around noon today (Saturday). We take a seat and pretty much order within five minutes. I can tell you there were around four or five other tables taken. It was not a full house by any means. So, it all started out fine. The waitress was friendly enough and she took our order and brought us our drinks. After that we were left waiting almost FORTY MINUTES and nobody, not the waitress or manager or anyone came and checked on us. I know the time exactly because I had to go put more quarters in my meter because my 45 minute time limit was about to expire. Now if you've ever been to a breakfast spot like this you know it's usually five or ten minutes for you to get your food but we were left waiting FORTY MINUTES. My poor two year old kid is famished and so is my wife. We stay patient this whole time even though they just ignored us. I get up to go to the restroom and wash my kid's hands to get ready to eat because I'm thinking it should be ready soon. I lock the door behind me and while I'm about to use the toilet one of the cooks barges in opening the door. Come to find out the lock doesn't even work on the door. Ok...? At this point I go up to the counter to tell the "manager" (a college kid wearing his college hoodie working the register. If I had to guess he's the son of the owners or something.) that the bathroom lock was broken and someone walked in on me. I said this in a very easy going tone and there was no aggression in my voice. At this point the cook behind the counter responded back sarcastically that it was him and that he's making my food and to calm down. First of all I didn't even mention him, I was just mentioning it to the cashier person that the lock was broken. I shake my head and ignored the cook's provocation. I then mentioned that we've been waiting forty minutes pretty much and I'm wondering how much longer it'll be because my wife and daughter are really hungry. I tell them that if it's not ready soon then I'm going to have to just go somewhere else. The manager does apologize and so does the waitress at this point. They say there's only one cook today and normally there are two. Now, I can understand being short handed but someone should have came over to my table to apologize for the wait at least and to check on my family. I would have told them to bring just about anything to give to my hungry daughter and wife. At this point I just ask them to please hurry and I start walking back to my table to wait. Everything would have been fine at this point but as I'm sitting down at my table the cook comes out and starts mouthing off at me with his bad attitude and tells me to be patient and calm down and lectures me like a child. Guess what? I worked as a cook before and if I made the customer wait FORTY MINUTES I would say nothing besides sorry! Yet, you have the audacity to lecture my me and my family? I look at the manager and he's just standing there saying nothing. I look at my wife and daughter and I tell the cook you're making my family starve and you're going to give me an attitude and lecture me like it's my fault?? WTF?? I could not believe what I was hearing. This is where the waitress or manager should have told the cook to keep silent and apologize profusely. This did not happen. The cook continues on and I could not sit there and have my family and me be disrespected. I say to the staff I'm not going to be disrespected and we're leaving. I take my family and go right down the street to Sunrise Breakfast. We sit down, order and there was food on the table literally in FIVE MINUTES! That's what's supposed to happen at a breakfast place! All in all, this place made us wait, didn't check on us, and on top of that allowed staff to be disrespectful. I can be understanding if you're short staffed but you need to communicate with your customers and most certainly you cannot disrespect your customers after making them wait so long. One of my favorite breakfast spots. I love the atmosphere and the food is always on point. I love that I can call in an order and the ladies are so professional. It's funny to know that the ladies already can tell what I'm gonna order. 'Great customer service'. Reasonable prices and a nice variety of food choices. Oh yeah, if you have kids bring them.
