Biscuits with sausage, gravy, home fries, and a fried egg, a decent sized cup of coffee and a large orange juice
    Kris M.

The service was quite acceptable on. I was seated rather quickly. It's sort of a self seating and there were open tables when I entered. Soon after I was seated, the waitress was right over to take my drink order I had ordered a large orange juice and a cup of coffee. Sugar and creamer are on the table for your use when you do have the coffee. By the time she came back with my drinks, I was ready to order. I had ordered the sausage gravy over a biscuit, two fried eggs and some home fries. The sausage gravy was good. I prefer bigger chunks of sausage, but what pieces were in there and the gravy itself tasted fantastic . The biscuit was good. It was very very soft and more soft even after the gravy was put on. I prefer more crisp on the outside of my biscuit and nice and soft and squishy on the inside but this one was good for my meal. The eggs were done wonderfully. They were done over easy. I had a wonderful run yolk they come unseasoned, but I just put a little pepper on them and they were great. Like I said the yoke was absolutely perfect. The home fries. Nice big chunks of red potatoes with the skins seasoned perfectly. They had a nice crisp bottom I could've actually have sat and ate a whole bowl of these. They have been offerings on their menu they have waffles, pancakes, French toast, many different omelettes, breakfast sandwiches along with the sausage gravy options. They also do have a small minor lunch menu as well that maybe sometime I'd like to go back and try. All in all I suggest stopping over to Sunnyside prices were reasonable as well to get a nice quick meal before you're off to wander around Bennington.

We lucked out when we arrived and snagged the last open booth. Service was quick, with our drinks and food arriving fast, and I loved seeing a selection of hot sauces right on the table. Not pictured is the cinnamon roll we split because it was too good to wait for a photo. The Texas burrito and chili got rave reviews from my dining partner, and my omelette was solid, though interestingly assembled. The fillings were layered rather than chopped and mixed throughout. Once I cut it all together, the flavor came through nicely, and the home fries were great. We'll definitely be back, and I'm already eyeing a few other dishes to try next time.

Was kinda shocked to see a diner and even more shocked when I drove up and was transported back in time. Like this is a real old time diner with the counter and stools and juke boxes at the tables! What a pleasant surprise. The best part of course was the service AND the food. The food was excellent and the portion sizes were hefty hefty hefty. I did the bagel melt with bacon instead of ham and they did it up right!! I ate every morsel including the mildly seasoned well cooked home fries. The bagel had the right toasted crunch to it, the sandwich was not oily and thus my clothes were spared. The egg was perfectly fried and the bacon lover in me was in heaven because it was not salty and my extra bacon was the right portion. My friend's plate was also done well and he ate every bit. I took off one star for the following: The booths are not for us larger people and so it was quite a squeeze (in and out) and I should have sat on a counter stool but that did not look any more comfortable for the tush. Also, the entrance was not ramped and thus not handicapped accessible. Otherwise, I would have given the place a 5 and if ever in Vermont again, will definitely stop by...I may even go by again before I leave the state. Great meal and experience.

However,…read morethey served me three large filet "medallions" each one cooked differently: medium rare, medium, and well done. Most of it was stringy, they offered only potatoes as a side, and "whatever the chef decides on a particular day." My husband's filet mignon was overcooked and dry, his potatoes lukewarm, and scallops overcooked. He told the waitress who offered to take the scallops - not the entire plate. The manager came over to apologize and asked my husband if he'd like to try anything else but he was too disappointed and lost his appetite. He explained that we were celebrating our anniversary but the woman didn't care to acknowledge it. After all that, the waitress returned and asked if we wanted to see the dessert menu without apologizing about our meal. Very unprofessional. We declined, paid the check, and left the bare minimum tip, which we never do. We don't blame the waitress for the food, but for her service technique and disinterest in her patrons' needs. Oh, they didn't charge us for my husband's meal but lacked the courtesy to tell us in person. Needless to say, despite the charming atmosphere, excellent salad bar, and incredible appetizers, we will not return. Maybe the chef had an off night, but what excuse did the staff have?

The location is fantastic... just a quick and easy drive outside of town, and the views from the deck are simply breathtaking. There's something special about enjoying a meal surrounded by such beautiful scenery. As for the food, we had mixed experiences. My Stuffed Cod was absolutely delicious, cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor. It was one of the best meals I've had in a while. My wife's Prime Rib dinner, while good, didn't quite exceed average. There was nothing wrong with it; it just didn't leave the same impression as my dish. The service at The Publyk House was commendable. The staff were friendly and attentive, adding to the overall pleasant experience. The complimentary bread was a nice touch that made our meal feel even more welcoming. I highly recommend The Publyk House for anyone visiting Bennington, especially if you're looking for a great spot to relax and enjoy a meal. With ample parking available, it's also an excellent stop for those taking a motorcycle trip. Overall, this place is a gem, and we will definitely be back!

Flavor on the food was just lacking. Even the Vermont cheddar cheese was bland and only a whisper of sharpness. The home made chips good but lacked anything special. The true problem of this place is the ownership/management. We went there little after it opened. To see a table with a 5 gallon bucket of utensils and servers doing their side work on a table you have to walk past to get to anywhere in the seating area. Then we come to the management/owner. My biggest pet peeve is doing the books or daily paperwork in the guest area. You have an office or a place away from your guests. Not in full view and with in ear shot of your guests. And not in a place where sound carries. The BIGGEST complaint is the language. You are the leader of your staff. You set an example for the behavior and attitude of your staff. Dropping F-BOMBS and other vulgar language is not at anytime acceptable. Clearly the servers knew it and didn't thankfully follow your lead. This is NOT your buddies garage or basement. You are having people come in and hearing your language and seeing and clearly hearing your behavior I can not recommend going here. If it was based on food maybe. But clearly the ownership and leadership will keep me away from here. Such potential wasted by such poor work ethics.

She ultimately never gave me what I asked for and I had to ask one of the bussers. Maybe she forgot... She didn't come back to our table until it was time for the check which also took a very long wait. Our waters were never filled despite there being two bussers roaming the restaurant non stop. We were quite disappointed with the service. Food was okay. Nothing spectacular or out of the ordinary. Oatmeal was on the thicker side. Scrambled eggs were on the dryer side. Steak was cooked fine. Given this experience, I would not come back. Service was slow and the server didn't seem to care for us. I know it was busy and people have bad days but this ruined our experience. Also we had called to ask if we could make reservations (never having been here) a few days before and the person who answered the phone gave a snarky reply.

Most breakfast places seat diners during their open hours. If it says 1:30pm then the staff can get out by 2:30. This restaurant tends to push people away - who are there for brunch - at about 12:15. Not sure the owners know how much business they are actually turning away since it's not apparent that once someone has been turned away over an hour before their end of day never bother to return. Also now that tips aren't technically taxed I would think employees would like a full day of work. Perhaps they need 2 shifts of wait staff and/or open for breakfast at 8:00am rather than 7:00.
