Sunny Side Kitchen (Escondido, CA) I admit it. I knew nothing about Sunny Side Cafe before dining here. I never read a single Yelp review. I never checked out a photo. I didn't even know that this cafe made it on "Yelp's 2017 Top Places to Eat" list. I was in the area and met a friend here. My first impression was that this place was tiny, and the menu is nothing that I expected. The name of the café made me think that omelets would be on the menu. Darn! I was craving about 6 eggs too. Sunny Side Café specializes in Panini's, but not just your typical Panini. Sunny Side serves over 10 different Panini's, a few sandwiches, salads, quiche, oatmeal, and a few baked goods. Their Panini's come in two sizes. Their half order is big enough, but I recommend a full order because the food is so good. Sunny Side's Panini's may possibly be the best I've had in 2018. I got the Bacon, Egg, & Cheese Breakfast Panini with a small Cobb salad on the size. I can't say enough about the food. It's that good and the portions are huge too. Sunny Side Café may have made it on Yelp's "2017 Top Places to Eat" list just from their food alone. But I think service also has a lot to do with it too. Cute place! So many gluten free options! The staff are so friendly, making you feel at home right away. The dining area is intimate, but adorable, with some patio dining options as well. The breakfast and lunch options are numerous, from quiche to paninis, soups and salads. So many teas, hot or cold, that come in cute teapots to your table for the hot version. We enjoyed breakfast paninis, the Works (egg, avocado, bacon, cheese) and the California (works plus turkey and tomato). These came with a small fruit cup on the side. The place was very busy and we had no where to sit for a while, but when we finally got a seat the atmosphere was nice and the delicious food/sweets made it worth the trip. Great food and service just a bit pricey. I thoroughly enjoyed my sandwich and soup as did my colleague. But you're going to pay about $15 for a combo meal and for my value conscious approach to dining out it's just a bit too rich for it to be a "go to" spot. I wish they had an inexpensive $5 sandwich. Had fresh coffee and the avocado, egg, and cheese panini for myself. For my kiddos, a cup of fruit, a side of bacon, and a couple of muffins (carrot cake and coconut chocolate chip). Everything was delicious Their service was excellent, they were very helpful and considerate as it was my first time. There is some seating available inside, and they also have a few outside tables. Sunny side is a small place by grand in Escondido. It was hard to notice but I'm glad I Found it. I've been here twice so far and both have been a great experience. The first time I got the breakfast bacon, egg and cheese panini. The second time I got the bacon and avocado panini. They were both delicious. I loveee the bread they use! Fantastic little local spot! Saw it featured on a local news network so we decided to try it out. Apparently they won awards for their "Works Breakfast Sandwich"...we tried it and it is definitely award worthy. Not traditional, it comes on what I believe is toasted sourdough grilled in parmesan cheese, super crispy, I could eat 5 pieces of that alone. We also had fresh squeezed orange juice, awesome and after we ate, I couldn't resist taking the "assorted mini cookies" to go (the red velvet is to die for). It is not a typical diner style, it is more gourmet with unbelievably fresh, made to order ingredients. They also offer lunch and we will be going back to try their paninis. Very cute establishment! Came here for lunch with my husband and our friends - it was really good! Small establishment, but very quaint with friendly staff.
