Food was delicious! I had a the green chile quiche and my son ordered The Works. It came with a little seasonal fruit cup that was perfect size. Wish we lived closer so we could come here more often.

In top of a relax environment you'll enjoy a fantastic food. All run for local family over many years. If you're in a rush just swing by and grab a cup of coffee. You'll miss the best panini though, but that's OK. Just start you day with a welcoming smile!

The grilled sandwiches here are good, but kinda pricey for what you get. I ordered the wake up Escondido full sandwich. It tasted great but it was lacking filling, not much chicken and more sauce than anything. It was almost $20 for this breakfast panini that came with a small side of fruit. I also tried their strawberry lemonade and strawberry salad. Very tasty as well. Service was okay, this place is tiny and it was starting to become packed with the lunch time crowd, so we asked for our order to go. I may give them another try if I am in the area.

I just started working in Escondido and finally tried Sunny Side Kitchen. Honestly, the food feels like a hug. the grilled cheese and tomato soup combo was delicious and made my day. It's a local family-owned spot and I got to meet the owner, Bob, who was so nice. The whole staff is sweet and you can really tell they put a lot of love into the place. I'll definitely be back!

Worth the hype!!! Everything is so fresh, the bread is phenomenal, the eggs are perfectly cooked. Chefs kiss for "the works" breakfast panini. The staff is also so sweet and it's just a cute local vibe. 100% would go again!

There's a reason that Sunny Side Kitchen is consistently one of the best restaurants - they never disappoint! I highly suggest giving the Tuscan chicken panini on sourdough a try. That with the orzo salad on the side and you'll have no regrets.

This place made Yelp's best places list and in summation it's easy to see why: everything is simple but done well. We had two of their breakfast paninis. The works and the good day sunshine. The real star of both of these were the bread and the cheese they melted on top of it. Everything else alone was good but together it was done really well. This isn't a fancy place. It's your go-to for a tasty breakfast sandwich and a coffee. It's where you stop by with a coworker during lunch. It's where you swing by to grab your mom some food on your way to visit (and when you walk in everyone recognizes you and tells you to tell her 'hi'). This is a local joint - and for the record we aren't from around here we just stopped on our way during our travels. But the entire time the service was friendly and fast and everyone said hello to the locals. All in all solid. Wish there were more places like this. Ps we went during the middle of the day so there wasn't a big wait but there are 5 tables inside and probably three outside so I can foresee it getting busy during weekends. Plenty of street parking and a lot across the way.

The food was very tasty Service very friendly However beware that the portion of the half panini is more like a kids meal size. We were still hungry after it. The full size would have been too much and too pricey . Just wish they had only one size sandwich at a regular size and price.

I got the new Chicken Ranch Panini. It was amazing! I only got the half sandwich since it's still pretty big and filling. Last time I went, I got the avocado and bacon panini. That panini was really good too. The workers (or owners) here are patient and make everything with care. This time my friends and I came at around 1:30 and it only took about 10 minutes for me and my friends to get out paninis. Last time I went with my dad at about noon and it took us about 30 mins to get our paninis. For parking, you can park on the street or you can park in the little parking spaces behind the shops. read more

So excited to eat here! Looked at the reviews and it looked very good! We received a free mini cookie and they also gave us free lemonade! I ordered the half avocado egg and cheese. It came with a small bowl of fruit. The inside is very cute and homey. Service was excellent and I highly recommend this cafe! Now I know why this place is voted top 100 restaurants in San Diego. Just tried the works breakfast Panini it is so savory and delicious. As for their quiche the green chile quiche is also Excellent and taste homemade probably because everything here is homemade. This place is a hidden gem in Escondido. New favorite breakfast and lunch place! Totally fell in love. I always love to support little family owned businesses like this that put their heart and soul into it. Very charming little country cafe style and super friendly service. They have an awesome menu of paninis, salads, etc. plus baked goods plus most things are healthy and fresh. I tried the Tuscan chicken panini which was delicious and served with a size of orzo salad which I loved. Also enjoyed my latte. My husband really liked his Cobb salad. Pretty good food but a small menu and a little expensive. Their menu mostly consists of breakfast and lunch paninis and different kinds of coffees and teas. It's a cute little hole in the wall place, very homey and friendly and would probably be a nice place to study or get work done because they have free WiFi. Overall a nice place just a little too expensive for a sandwich. read more

Visited this place for Sunday Breakfast based on Yelp Reviews. It was cute. A small mom & pop shop where you feel like you're eating at your aunties home. Great sandwiches, awesome pour over coffee and decent pastries. The service was very good! Some tips- Skip the latte, it didn't taste like they used an espresso machine. Don't expect a full breakfast menu and don't show up with a large party. It's a small place with 4 table tops and a window seat. It's perfect for a quiet 2 person breakfast. read more

My mom and I just ate at sunny side cafe and wow. We shared the green chili crust less quiche and roasted tomato crust less quiche and they were phenomenal. The cheese on them formed almost a "crust" that gave it a little crunch. I think my favorite out of the two was the green chili because of the little bit of spice it had. We both got the California club breakfast paninis that had turkey, bacon, tomato, cheese, egg and avocado. They had a good amount of gluten free options as well. I am at a loss for words for this place. All of the other reviews are spot on! Perfect quantities, fantastic flavor, amazing service and a homey feel. I found this place on a whim for lunch and I will be back for sure! I had the vegetarian panini with tomatoes, cheese, spinach and added avocado, their mushroom barley soup was to die for and their mango green tea flavorful. They use my favorite Tea guy from San Diego the Tea Gallerie! They give you a pickle and a bite size cookie with the panini, so awesome but I will have to try the cookies another time, I am on a sugar cleanse. My husband will have to eat this one. Sunny Side Kitchen is in the area of downtown Esco near Grand Ave. I found parking easy right across the restaurant on the other sidewalk. Pricing is reasonable and the menu options are good to satisfy breakfast cravings. I opted for a simple breakfast sandwich and ordered the bacon, egg, and cheese panini which comes with a small side of fruit. For drinks I opted for an iced caramel latte. The panini was made perfectly.. very scrumptious inside out. The latte drink I tried was also strong and a good light sweetness to it. They had good friendly service which was a plus it has a mom and shop feel. The restaurant is on the smaller side, but I came at a good time to find seating inside easily (also outdoor seating is available). read more

Absolutely amazing ! I wish I lived closer! The best thing to do is find a cafe with great food and good customer service ! I ordered an egg, avo, and cheese panini, a quiche, and a Carmel latte with almond milk. All of it was so good! ...and to be honest, it made me feel like I was 5 again walking into my grandmas kitchen! Not more comforting than that! I'll be back again, I'm sure of it ! read more

Welcome to Sunny Side Kitchen, where we're all about panini -- cheesy, grilled, made-to-order sandwiches featuring the best local ingredients we can find. We start with artisan sourdough by San Diego bakery, Bread & Cie, to build delicious, homemade signatures like Tuscan Chicken, Pesto Chicken, and our Vegetarian Mediterranean Panini. But wait -- we know you can't live on bread alone. So our menu incorporates small-batch drinks, like fresh lemonade, and an array of hot and iced coffees. Sunny Side Kitchen Panini, soups, salads, cookies and craft beverages highlight breakfast and lunch menu. Gluten free selections also available. Sunny Side Kitchen, mobile food specialists throughout San Diego since 2012, opened a restaurant in North County in 2015. Located in historic downtown Escondido, at 155 S. Orange St., between Second and Grand, the casual café offers breakfast and lunch from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday through Monday (closed Tuesday and Wednesday). "This is an exciting place for us," said Kate Carpenter, owner with her husband, Bob Carpenter. "We love having our little restaurant, a place with big picture windows and a kitchen table where customers can sit and chat over a cup of fresh-brewed coffee, a couple of bite-sized cookies and something cheesy from the grill.

Meet the Business Owner: Kate C.

Kate is a native Southern Californian and a graduate of San Diego State University. After nearly three decades of working in journalism and PR, she decided to switch gears and start a food business. Sunny Side Kitchen was born in 2011, specializing in small-batch, hand-crafted cookies and gluten-free treats. In 2012 Kate expanded Sunny Side Kitchen to include gourmet panini sandwiches made to order at local farmers' markets and special events, including several craft breweries. In 2015 a small cafe was opened in Escondido. Sunny Side Kitchen serves panini, salads, soup, and of course awesome baked goods!

The owners were incredibly friendly and accommodating, and it's no surprise why this restaurant has earned it was in the "Top 100 Places to Eat" by Yelp I ordered The California Club sandwich and it was absolutely delicious. The sandwich was piled high with fresh ingredients like turkey, bacon, avocado, lettuce, and tomato. It was perfectly seasoned and served with a side of yummy fruit. The portion size was generous and definitely worth the price. But what really stood out to me was the friendly and welcoming atmosphere of the restaurant. The owners went out of their way to ensure that we had a great dining experience. They were attentive to our needs and even took the time to chat with us and make us feel like part of the Sunny Side Kitchen family. For a Thursday, almost every seat was filled, so we sat at the high benches counter and had a lovely view of the Downtown street happenings. It was more than we could've expected. Chalkboard menu, home made kombucha & by the glass fresh squeezed lemonade. We split the Works panini & a strawberry parfait. (They are big on their panini's). Not a Waffle House type of place. It's a little more healthy, local and special than pancakes, & scrambled eggs! The people running the restaurant were kind & took extra care in making sure we had a great experience. Greeted by a nice man. I orders grilled cheese lunch special. It was delish but my husbands Tuscan chicken panini was way better. The grilled cheese was pretty flat. As in not much cheese and you get a small side salad. They should make any half sandwich with a salad. Portions small for the price. My husbands sandwich came with some cold rice which was good but basically only about two bites worth. We had to wait a long time for lunch with one family in front of us. Sunny Side Kitchen did not disappoint. Met up with my siblings here for breakfast and it was a solid morning all around. The staff was friendly and welcoming from the moment we walked in, the coffee hit the spot, and the breakfast sandwiches were exactly what you want -- hearty and satisfying. This place is really good. we stopped for breakfast and we were impressed. The coffee was really good as well. Also, the service was extremely good. They are friendly and the place is homely. We will definitely be returning to this spot. read more

The panini avocado bread was the bomb. Kate is an awesome baker and owner. Thanks for the awesome breakfast. I was surprised from the sourdough bread. You deserve 10 stars. The strawberry muffin was very delicious too my son loved it. read more
