First time trying Sunny Side up for breakfast. They were busy but when get inside they have plenty of tables and staff. Our server took care of us right away but the food didn't arrive for a good 45 minutes after ordering. They also don't allow a substitute for the side of grits that comes with the egg dishes. I ordered a mushroom and cheese omelet. I thought it was good and should have added a side of bacon as bacon is good with everything. My sister ordered the eggs Benedict Florentine and she liked it but she also commented on the long wait.

I'm not typically a breakfast person at home, but it's always been one of my favorites to eat out, so trying to find a good place close to our new home is paramount. The Sunny Side Up diner in Calabash is only a few miles away so we gave it a try. This is clearly a locals hangout. The waitstaff is well seasoned and appear to know a lot of the customers. After our experience we are looking forward to being a couple more locals who frequent this place. Prices are more reasonable than most beach places. Portions are good. We had a few friends with us and all 4 of us were very pleased with the quality of our food. It appears they just remodeled and resurfaced the parking lot too. Overall great experience and recommend.

Good homemade food, attentive service with a smile and excellent prices. My husband had the meatloaf lunch special with green beans and mashed potatoes for $10.95. Large portions to fill up a big appetite.

Found this diner on Google. It's actually fairly roomy for a diner and offers lots of onsite parking. Upon entry we were greeted by a friendly hostess then was seated immediately. The waitress was nice, not overly friendly but nice. The patrons appear to be locals and not tourists like us. The ambiance wasn't anything unique or memorable but it was clean and extremely quiet! No loud talking, no music or rowdy behavior. The food was good and the prices were reasonable. I had a bacon cheeseburger and fries ...the burger was pretty thin but it was good. However, being from the south, I know and love sweet tea, so I was unimpressed with the sweet tea here! It was weak but it was sweet so I drank it. My son and nephew ate breakfast...they both said they enjoyed their food which came from the kids menu. I was going to give 4 stars but I took off another star because charging a, I think, 4% service fee for using a credit card was utterly ridiculous!! I mean in the era of tap to pay and being 23 years into the 21st century, who really carries cash like that?! All in all I give Sunny Side Up Diner a solid 3 stars!

Scrambled eggs with chopped steak, grits, pancake on the side. Rye toast on the way...

The skillet I got was ok, had some flavor. The rye toast was dry for some reason. I would try lunch there at some point.

This is our first time back at the Kettle since returning to OC last September and it is just as I…read moreremember: tasty, down home cooking and friendly folks. I asked our very helpful and sweet server Jersey if she had only 2 choices with one being chicken fried chicken or the daily special Taco Salad, which would she go with and she said the taco salad. So, that's what I ordered. It was very tasty, loaded with 2 types of cheese a side of Jalapeño (which I gave to hubby) alot of fresh tomatoes and lettuce, a side of salsa and sour cream served in a somewhat crispy tortilla shell. And the shell is the only reason for a 4 star vs 5, the shell wasn't as light and crispy as I like it. It tasted as if they fried it several hours ago and honestly, I get why they did it that way as it saves time but the shell just left me disappointed. Hubby ordered a patty melt with fries. We came into town to scope out the Jacksonville Landing for future bass fishing mornings and when I told him we were stopping in here for lunch he already knew he was having the melt. I mean, he thought about it for 90 minutes lol. I've had their melts before and it is yummy. I think though the fries were the star on his plate. They were crispy on the outside and pillowy on the inside and topped with something akin to Old Bay Seasoning. And they were HOT! Y'all, i mean, they're only fries but rhey were PERFECT! I am seriously alreasy looking forward to our 1st fishing adventure just so we can have lunch at the Kettle once we've caught all the bass. Jersey was quite attentive, but not hovering and warm friendly like only you'll find in the south. Oh, bestie told me to get the chocolate torte because she said, literally, "it's life altering." However, I forgot to so, just another thing for me to enjoy after our initial fishing trip. In some ways, you can go home again.

The Food Many of you know how much I travel, and I don't say this lightly, these are the best Eggs Benedict I've ever had. Period!!! I ordered the Crab Benedict, while my wife enjoyed the California Benedict. Every bite was simply outstanding. 2. The People The entire staff is incredibly kind, attentive, and welcoming. Yes, you may wait 25 to 50 minutes for a table, but I can honestly say it's worth every single minute. Great things are worth waiting for. 3. Kate And then there's Kate, the owner. She is truly one of a kind. Her kindness, humility, and positive spirit radiate the moment you meet her. More than anything, her faith is contagious! We spent just a few minutes talking, yet her words left a lasting impact on both of us. As we were leaving, she handed us a small pin that read, "God's Got This." Wow... it was exactly the message we needed at that moment. Please take a moment to read her story in the attached photo. It's inspiring and a beautiful reminder that faith, hope, and love still exist all around us. From now on, every day can be "CB" day for me, because I'll gladly return to Kate's for what I believe is the best breakfast, served with the biggest hearts. Thank you, Kate, for reminding us that sometimes the greatest thing on the menu isn't just the food, it's the love, faith, and kindness that come with it. God Bless you, your family and your amazing team!!! 100% Recommended

Perhaps some of the best pancakes I've ever had. They had nuts in them and were perfectly spiced. 10/10. Red velvet was good, the cream cheese icing was quite tasty but they weren't anything too special. And the apple pancake was my least favorite; the apple filling on top tasted like it came from a can. Super sweet and didn't taste fresh. But the pancake itself was still good. This place does not take reservations and I was told the line goes out the door in the summer. There was a large line even while we were there in the off season during a storm. So if you want to eat here on a weekend, or the weather is nice, proceed with caution and be prepared to wait (standing outside--there is no seating while you wait).

I have read some of the negative reviews and have not had a bad experience there. If you are expecting 5 star upscale restaurant food, pricing, and service then you need to go to the Ritz, not a small scale country style food restaurant. I hadn't thought of reviewing this restaurant but my return was as unpleasant as my first visit…read more I'll get to the atmosphere later in this review. Our second visit started out questionable with the parking lot unwalkable cause of the resent bad weather. Rain puddles and moon craters aplenty. Going in seemed awkward having the diners look at you because we brought in a rush of cold air. Everyone there was eating with thier coats on. Alot of restaurants have a tent breeze way but not here. One of the waitress gave a beeper and told us we could either wait out side or in our cars. It was cold that day. That wasn't a great option. My meal was a questionable experience. Once handed our menus they appeared dirty and manhandled. My last visit the rolls that were giving out weren't' bake at all. This visit the same way. Gummy at first not fully baked and if not eating right away hard as a rock. Thats the second time it was severed like that. I ordered the chicken strips. 4 in all. Not great. When I woke up the next day I was wondering WHY the roof of my mouth was torn up. This tells me that the breading was old and heated up. Look not every place can be like Chick Fill A. I get it. . The atmosphere was kind of depressing. The lighting was all over the place. Bright light bulbs not matching. LED's with regular bulbs. The first time I was there I thought that the waitress wearing rip jeans was maybe a fluke but there she is again. The same jeans. The rag she used to wipe the tables matched her pants. Very off-putting to say the least. I would think this place is popular causet there is'nt much dinning in that area of Calabash. I'm never going back. A sure sign of a place that is questionable the sign out front is awash with green mold. A good power wash could help that.
