Decided to stop and give this place a shot on our way to Myrtle Beach. I had the crab cake Benedict and a peach pancake, my bestie had the salmon omelette . Salmon omelette did its job. Wasn't anything spectacular or a "oh gotta come back for this". Crab cake Benedict was ok. I say try something else. My husband and I went for breakfast. We were seated right away. It has an atmosphere like going to a friends house , friendly ,come as you are . Our food came out in a timely manner . I had Eggs Benedict ,excellent. My husband had his normal eggs bacon hash brown. His biggest complaint is the bacon when we go for breakfast. He likes crispy bacon and that's exactly what he got . It was during the week or so between the Christmas Holidays & New Year's Day. We are relatively new to this area & this was our first Holiday Season. Several Bakeries in the area were closed for the Holidays, & that's how I ended up at Matthew's Pancake House. & the beignets were really really good! & very suitable for the House Party cuz one of the hosts was making authentic N'Orleans gumbo!! First time here, don't go out for breakfast much but after this experience, I'll be back. The building and decor are right out of the 70's but don't let that deter you. Menu is expansive and has something for just about any taste. I tried the lemon, blueberry and goat cheese pancakes after reading a recent review. I highly recommend them. I was introduced to Matthews by a local more than 20 years ago and have always made it a point to stop whenever I'm at the beach. The menu has expanded over the years but the prices remain reasonable and the servers are always polite and attentive. Today I had the salted caramel banana stuffed french toast which was terrific. I will also point out the sausage links are large, not precooked frozen and my eggs over medium came just that way which isn't always the case in other restaurants. I happen to see someone's plate as it was delivered next to us. They looked amazing. As far as the restaurant is concerned it to do some updating inside and outside. Whenever a coffee cups was delivered with lipstick stains. At first, I thought it was missed by accident. When our waitress came by, we mentioned the cup was dirty and we pointed out the lipstick stains. The waitress said, and I quote " oh my that's the second time this morning". At that point it sort of makes you wonder are the dishes even clean? The men's bathroom was very dirty. It smelled like it had not been cleaned in days. Trash on the floor stains all over the toilet bowl. My mom went into the women's restroom and basically confirmed the women's restroom looked the same. Located along busy 17, the big yellow sign makes them easy to find. There is a good amount of parking both adjacent to the building and across a travel lane. Handicapped parking is right in front near the door. Walking into the main dining area, there is seating for about 50. There is also another seating area along one side not quite a large. We had a large group, but they were able to accommodate us quickly. The menu is extensive, with many breakfast and lunch items. The breakfast choices range from the typical to the unexpected, so take your time searching as you may be surprised by what you find. Our orders took about 20 minutes to come to the table. They were very accommodating and got the kids items out first, maybe only 10 minutes after ordering. This settled them down quickly and kept them busy for the remainder of the meal. It was a nice touch and shows how experienced the wait staff is. The Early Morning biscuit and eggs was very good. My eggs were cooked a little less than I asked for, but not enough to be a problem. The hash browns were very good, cooked perfectly with some crunchiness but still softer in the middle. The biscuits and gravy were exceptional. The flavorful gravy had a lot of sausage and a good peppery spiciness. The biscuits were soft and fluffy and held up well to the layer of gravy. The two other items I had the chance to try were the crème brulee French toast and the blueberry French toast special with goat cheese. Both were wonderful, and I was only permitted one bite of each. The rest of the table all indicated thorough enjoyment of their breakfast items. Even the kids ate everything on their plates. The wait staff, especially our server, were excellent. While on vacation, we typically only go out for breakfast on the day we leave to return home. To say we were sad we only got to go to Matthew's once is an understatement. We went to Matthew's Pancake House for the first time for breakfast. We were impressed with their website and the photos of their breakfast items. I was a little leary that the photos were all staged. I can tell you that my Pancakes with Blueberry, Goat Cheese, Lemon Zest with Whip Cream were served better than the photo. My Sister & I went for a late Breakfast on Monday and we were very disappointed, The biscuits were stale, I understand we were There kinda late close to closing at 2:00. I feel if we get there close to closing, they need to say Can we offer you something else that could be fresher. But The restaurant needs a lot of major cleaning. The table was sticky, the window sills are very Dirty, the light fixtures dusty. With this COVID virus everything needs to be Cleaned and sanitized.
