What a cool place. Wasn't too crowded , people were lounging around enjoying their coffee and food. It wasn't loud which was nice. Place was clean and decorated nice. We were greeted upon arrival and helped quickly. Staff was friendly and helpful. We ordered the apple fritter so fresh and yummy, best I've had in a while . We also ordered the might sunny side breakfast burrito one with ham , bacon , sausage potatoes the other with chorizo, bacon and sausage and potato so yummy and tasty. Comes with a tasty hot sauce . I'm not sure why this place has such stellar reviews. We came on a Friday morning at 9, and the donuts we got were stale- I'm pretty sure they were day old donuts that we paid full price for. Further, we got 4 donuts and 1 burrito and it was $40- that is crazy. The man helping us acted as though he hated his job. Ambiance is... interesting. Walls, tables and chairs are dirty. Visited for brunch to try both their hot food as well as their donuts. Incredibly friendly and helpful staff and a warm and welcoming atmosphere that I wanted to love. They are known for their breakfast burritos and I went for shrimp and added avocado. The eggs were a bit dry and it needed a carb and some fat to help balance out all the protein. The salsa was flavorful, but overall it felt more like a high protein breakfast burrito. The tuna melt had a huge portion of tuna salad and a couple of pieces of cheese on top. It looked to be warmed in a panini press which wasn't able to actually melt the cheese and warm the interior. Felt closer to a tuna salad sandwich with cheese rather than a tuna melt. We also got an assortment of sweet treats with somewhat mixed results. The muffin we got was our favorite out of the sweet treats. The cinnamon roll was also good, although not the best we've had in the area. The cronut was tasty, but the internal layers melted together and lost the flaky internal structure. We were disappointed with both flavors of the strudel pastry we got with them being a bit doughy and not very flavorful. I forgot why i stopped coming here years ago. Then today, while getting my hair done i had to sneak in and get something while the toner was doing its thing. Old fashioned and chocolate bar , pretty easy and basic . One bite into the chocolate bar and the old fashioned after and suddenly the reasons came through. This spot is more than just a donut shop. They also serve a full breakfast, and it's fantastic. I ordered the chorizo burrito, and it was absolutely delicious. Their house salsa is made fresh on site, and you can really taste the difference. So good! A big shout out to Jose, who helped me. He was kind, polite, and clearly very hardworking. This was our second trip to Sunny Side up and it was fabulous. They had a car show in the parking lot sponsored by SSUD. The place was booming and the service was still quick and courteous. Jorge the manager had everything running like a clock. We ordered the Sunny Side breakfast burrito and the Chorizo breakfast burrito. Both burritos were made fresh to order and very delicious. Generous portions of meat, eggs, potatoes, and avocado. The house red salsa was a great compliment to the overall flavor. To top everything off we also ordered the old fashioned glazed donut and 2 apple fritters. Possibly the best fritter on the planet. I ordered six cronut holes and an apple fritter. No photos on website. I received six very very small, so hard we could not bite into because they were so burnt and covered in hard chocolate. Apple fritter was also burnt which I did not think was possible. Also ordered plain cake and devils food which also were very small but tasty. I've been to Sunny Side numerous times and always great customer service along with delicious and fresh bagels and donuts. Recently, I purchased several items (bagels, donuts and muffins). When I got home, the bagels were......let's just say......far less fresh than they should have been. These things happen and I always figure the retail owner would like to know so they can correct the issue. I took the box back that afternoon and while George, the owner wasn't there, one of his regular staff guys was (wish I had gotten his name). I told him the problem and the customer service could not have been better. I didn't have the cc used originally but I was offered a very generous gift card to use on future purchases. The owner and all his employees are all extremely kind and caring of their customers and make sure to go out of their way to ensure only the highest customer service is presented. I bought their fresh Pozole the other day and it is absolutely fabulous. The chicken was wonderful and it was not too heavy with hominy. All the flavors were perfectly balanced. I have made this dish before, so I am very familiar with how it should taste, and this did not disappoint in any sort of the imagination . This establishment always has delicious food and of course their hot donuts are an extra treat. Without a doubt, they make the best tamales in the area and I cannot wait until the holidays when they will begin making them again. They put the burrito on a sandwich press which is next level stuff. Super nice touch getting all the ingredients mixed together and heated up. The owner was working and was a super nice guy.
