We came here to check out San Juan Capistrano and we were starved walking around and stumbled upon this place. We were very glad we did. My friend got a breakfast croissant with ham and cheese and an orange juice. She said it was the best orange drink she ever had. It had a blend of like orange and tangerine. She loved it. Also enjoyed the croissant. I had two donuts. A crumb and a coconut glazed. Both very yummy. Also had a coffee. Everything was very good. My late father used to visit Donut Hut in the 70s, 80s, and 90s before work every day. I remember going there with him on weekends. Recently, when my friend and I met for a Dana Point/ San Juan Capistrano day trip I suggested visiting Donut Hut for a glaze of nostalgia. Chris, the person behind the counter, was extremely friendly and courteous. He engaged with me as I reminisced about my Donut Hut glory days. Apparently, the establishment has changed hands at least once in the last 10 years. The service was awesome and the donuts were excellent. It seemed as though Donut Hut had been newly refurbished. I have gone out of my way to stop by almost every donut shop I pass to try their ham and cheese croissant and I am afraid this one has got to be the absolute best one. It takes the cake! Loaded with melted cheeeseyyy goodness, generous amount of ham and perfect pickled jalapenos inside the butteriest, fluffiest croissant pocket. WOW!!! Randomly found this shop and decided to give it a try. Went in and place is clean and the worker was fairly friendly. Was he looking to be my friend, no, but he definitely wasn't rude. The place is simple, definitely more mom pop style; not trying to be trendy. It works for it though. I got the maple bar and glaze twist. I honestly wasn't expecting anything great. These doughnuts exceeded my expectations. The bread of the doughnut was light and fluffy. There was no chewy texture and also was not oily. The flavors of the maple and glaze were not too sweet. It thought they were quite good! Next time I am in SJC we will buy more than just two doughnuts! read more

I just discovered Donut Hut a few weeks back and am absolutely obsessed with the doughnuts and croissants there! The apple fritter is by far the best I've ever had in my entire life! It's perfection! Then I tried the ham, cheese and jalapeño croissant and could not believe how delicious that is! The owner is so kind and service is excellent! Truly the best doughnut shop I have ever been to! Ive been here three times and every time it's a disaster. I order a croissant for pickup. Then I waited at the pickup line for 10 minutes. I tried to get their attention but they ignored me. Well I see my name on the order so I take it. Then all the workers suddenly scream at the top of their lungs hello, hello, hello. Another time I go in and the man goes "What you want!" Very rude and dismissive. I don't expect to be treated like a king but at least be polite. Then today I go in and ask for two jalapeno croissants but no ham because I'm vegetarian. He rudely grabs the first croissant he sees and slaps it into the bag. Then the second one. Well guess what, it has ham in it! When I went in for a replacement, he was so rude and agitated. He eventually compromised after 5 minutes of argument. He only put one croissant back in the bag. I didn't even have the energy to argue. Don't come here read more

I've given this place a few chances, but the customer service has been consistently disappointing. The two guys working are rude and unwelcoming, which makes you feel uncomfortable as a customer. Yesterday I came in with my kids for donuts, and even they noticed the negative attitude. That really shouldn't happen. A change in attitude would make a huge difference. read more

Just your usual donut shop that has sandwiches and other drinks inside. I came in an hour before they were about to close for the day and the donuts were some how still pretty fresh and not dry and stale. The guy working gave a few extra as well as I grabbed 18 pieces to treat employees. They have all the goodies here, from the classic donuts to the cake donuts and more. The service was friendly and highly suggest this place for taking for any events. read more

I ordered 120 donuts from Donut Hut for our 100-person wedding in SJC. First and foremost, their customer service is AMAZING! When on the phone with the owner he asked me my color scheme for the wedding and since it was fall colors, he said that he would do his best to get colored sprinkles that matched my theme. He was extremely communicative and was able to find the perfect combo which made our donut wall look spectacular! Pricing was also extremely reasonable and pickup was a breeze. During the wedding I heard that people kept asking if the donuts were for eating or decoration since they looked so good haha. And by the time the night was over, there were only like 5 donuts left! They were a huge hit and we cannot thank Donut Hut enough for making our donut wall such a talking point of the night :) read more

Breakfast Croissant with sausage and egg minus the cheese plus avocado and jalapeños?! Count me in. Not inly is it bomb dot com, their freakin fresh squeezed orange juice is good too! Very fresh indeed. Donuts are also the reason why they're called Donut hut. Service is always spectacular every single time. Always a crowd pleaser since I started working for CHP down the street. The guys in office always compliments the donuts each time I bring them in. It's always a hit. Ambiance is such a unique vibe. Seeing how a lot of people come in to get breakfast on the go. The donuts were sad. The service was just average wouldn't come back for it. The bacon egg and cheese croissant I got was old tasting. With this soggy texture like all they did was leave it in fridge overnight and heat in microwave the next morning. The bacon had a horrible stale flavor and completely dehydrated, I threw it off to make the sandwich bearable. What a shame. As the bacon egg cheese croissant is usually the safe option.When you go there you have all these workers like gardeners, painters, labor construction guys staring you down and hanging tough making the ambiance not welcoming. Instead of just getting their donuts and showing respect and curiosity to other people stopping by for the donut shop. Reminds me of old dive bar vibes when you are not a local and you walk in for a beer everybody just giving you this you don't belong here energy. I only gave it two stars because the coffee was decent. Drive to next city over don't waste your money here. Dana Point has better donuts and it's not even more than a half a mile from this location. Not recommend Donut Hut. read more

Friday October 11th in the morning 9am I went to go buy two strawberry croissants and one ham and cheese. As I was ordering both of the employees laughed behind the counter and as I confronted them they got very upset and shoved my order towards me. After work today I went to pick up donuts for my family. I decided to try Donut Hut and I was so happy with everything. The shop has that classic small shop feel with more selections than just donuts. The man who helped me was so wonderful and kind and also quick and precise. He knew everyone in the shop by name. The shop was clean, well lit and had plenty of seating. Our dozen donuts were so fresh and light. I was so thankful they took card and for $17 it was all worth it! We will be back! read more

Actually came for the shop next door but since they were closed, decided to try this place. There was only one guy working here. Gave the impression that he was the owner. He was super busy with taking orders and preparing foods/drinks. I ordered a pineapple smoothie. Asked for NO whipped cream but still got it on my drink. It wasn't very good. Couldn't taste the pineapple and was too sweet for my taste. Luckily, my hubby has a sweet tooth and was able to drink some of it. I'll probably get a croissant or sandwich next time. But no shakes! read more

I cannot say enough about this place. They have the best donuts and best variety! The coffee was piping hot just the way I like it! Their staff was kind and helped bring the donuts to the table for me and my three kids. The facility is clean and I will 100 percent be making this my normal spot! The salmon lox was mild in taste, but nice. The beet salad was delicious, but would have been better with goat cheese. Hush puppies were good, but SO HEAVY. My kids had the beignets and coffee cake, which were served with a lot of syrup/sauce. Neither dish was finished and they were also SO HEAVY. For 2nd plates, we had the beef stew, flannel hash, crab hash, and 2 orders of the mac and cheese with duck confit and truffles. The flannel hash was outstanding. Everything else was meh. The beef stew was good, but the potatoes were unnecessary and there were bites of blue cheese that were disproportionately strong. The crab hash was not good even after adding salt and pepper. The egg portion of the dish was bad. The sweet potato crispies were overwhelming and ridiculous. And the large crab cakes were just totally lacking in flavor. The mac and cheese was also meh although it did reheat better the next day. But the portion of duck confit was light and I ended up with a large bone in my mouth when I had it as leftovers. I do not believe there were any truffles or even truffle oil in this dish, just mushrooms. In short, I would never go again on the weekend and would not even seek this place out on the weekdays. I wonder if the chef changed because the food was just so mediocre compared to before. The portions are very large so if that is of interest, they have that in spades. And the flannel hash was outstanding. So if you find yourself here, definitely order that. I hope a revamp is done on the food. If so, I would come again as the patio is absolutely lovely.
