Decent Thai in the area. The panang curry was a bit bland but the spice was on point. The portion size is much smaller for the price, compared to other local Thai restaurants. My waitress was so kind when I recently enjoyed lunch here. I was excited to order the Massaman curry and happy to tell you all that it's perfect. OMG THis place is Amazing!! I went because co workers were raving on how good the food was. Did not dissapoint! I ordered the Thai Fried Rice, shrimp rolls, Thai Shu Mai ( fried), and crab rangoon. I got everything to go! The Thai Fried Rice was so fresh( the tomatoes weren't over done). I tasted before putting any soy or condiment on it and it was awesome. THis is my way to taste all fried Rice before adding condiments... gives you knowledge of the taste of the food. Crab Rangoons were good, Loved the red bell pepper in them. The THAI SHUMAI!!! I loved these. Little pork and shrimp dumplings and the sauce lil spicy but not too much. The shrimp Rolls were really good I have had these before in other locations and they added cream cheese to them and they were good too. This place did not and they were still really good !! Really enjoyed Sunny Thai! It was my first time trying this place out and all I can say it was perfection. My husband and I ordered appetizers with Pad Thai and Drunken noodles and all of our food came out hot. We eat out frequently and our food never comes out like the way it did at Sunny Thai. The level one spice (the lowest possible tier) is actually pretty spicy. Granted, I don't have a high spice tolerance, but I wish they had an option for people who only want a touch of heat. I was downing glass after glass of water trying to temper the spice. Like most Thai restaurants, the portions are generous. This one stands out to me because of the high vegetable-to-noodle ratio in the noodle dishes. They are not at all stingy with the veggies! Great reviews on this place! And it delivered! We got apps and I ordered the panang curry. It was amazing. I was a little disappointed at the spice levels, I only got a 3, but was hoping for a little more spice. We decided to sit in and the place was pretty packed. I was a little less than enthused about the whole vibe overall, but the food really did make it worth it. Also was hoping for beer and wine at least but this place is alcohol free. I found Sunny Thai after looking up Hot & New restaurants in the area. I can see why it was on there. It was very conveniently located right of I-20 at Matlock. Ample parking outside, even at a peak time. I was immediately greeted and offered a menu. I was ordering take out and opted for some of my favorites to sample. I had curry puff, shui mai, crispy rolls, pad kee mao and pad see ew (I hope I spelled them right)! While I waited I sat down and had a nice Thai iced tea. It was provided in a to go cup to make it easy to take with me. I though I would finish it before the food was ready but I was wrong. Food was ready super quickly, not so quick you wonder if it was really cooked though! Just good quick take out speed. I got home, excited to try everything. My wife was surprised because I didn't tell her I was bringing it. All the more reason for me to want the food to be awesome. It was. Everything was excellent. The spice level was perfect, we had Thai spicy - 5 for the entrees and it was just what we like. Normally with take out we order too much and have left overs. No left overs here. It was too delicious to stop eating, not a morsel left! I took pictures but they don't do the food the same justice as the ones from inside the restaurant, plated. I just attached the appetizers. Value - under $50 for all that food. I think it was excellent value. I look forward to eating in next time because it had such a warm friendly atmosphere. read more

Was so hungry after the mall, so I decided to stop here to grab a bite and take to go for my family. I ate the lad na at the restaurant while I waited for them to cook the to go. This is one of my favorite Lao/Thai dishes, so I judge a restaurant by this if they serve it. I love how you aren't jipped on the amount of seafood you get. The gravy is how I like it, not too thick and not too watery. As I got home, the first thing My kids demolished was the Thai dumplings and Lao sausages. Their dim sum fanatics and will let you know in a quickness if they didn't like it. They wanted more so it was a good sign. I ordered pad se eww instead of the drunken noodles because they don't like spicy sometimes. So it's always a safe bet for me to order that. It was full of flavor. Not disappointed at all. Larb beef I did a level 4. Wish I did level 5 to make it spicier. I like eating this with sticky rice. My one year love the kao piak sen (Laos chicken noodle soup). She eats noodles ALL the time and this one has great flavor. Didn't have to add soy sauce or marinade it. Very soothing for this cold weather too. Crispy beef makes me think of Chinese food. I wasn't really craving this, but wanted another option for the kids in case they wanted a rice dish. Overall everything is yummy and I recommend this place. read more

I've enjoyed a few meals from Sunny Thai over the last few months. I always order the Pad Thai. It is consistently good! My previous favorite pad Thai was from another local restaurant and this has now surpassed it as my new favorite. I ordered the same thing every time but the menu is quite extensive. The yellow curry was lacking in flavor and spice. The vegetable egg rolls were good, but they charge for dipping sauces, like sweet and sour. I was given two packets of duck sauce for four egg rolls. Had I known ahead of time, I could have added that to my order. Since I had already paid, I didn't have any cash to pay for just the sauce. It's an unassuming restaurant in a strip mall across from Fry's. I had high hopes because it had 5 stars. I got Thai fried rice with chicken, crab fried rice, they both come with spring rolls and crab and avocado eggrolls. The spot was clean, and the lady that took my order was nice. The crab fried rice seems to be lacking seasoning of some kind. What? I don't know. I just know something is missing. My daughter loved her Thai fried rice with chicken . She said it was well seasoned. As for the eggrolls, they were $9, so I was expecting something fantastical. The menu says 4 pieces when in reality it is 2 eggrolls cut in half. This place was delicious. We have been looking for a good Thai spot and this one hit the spot. I was very satisfied with the food. My toddler also enjoyed his meal very much. He loves to eat what we eat so we decided to get him steamed noodles and just add some broth from my chicken pho. The chicken pho was a little plain but adding all of the yummy sauces and chilies they provide made it delicious and just the way I wanted it. My husband order the orange chicken at a level 5 in spicy with a side of fried rice. He left absolutely nothing on his plate. Goes to show how much he enjoyed the meal. The only reason I gave this place a 4 stars instead of 5 was because of the service. Although the servers were lovely and nice it was sometimes difficult to get certain things and I had to get up to ask for the chili sauces and napkins. Not a big deal but something to work on. Went here based on the reviews posted. We ordered the Tom Kha soup which was really good. The Fresh Salad Rolls which weren't very good & the peanut sauce was more akin to Pad Thai sauce, very sweet & runny. I was hoping they had Siracha & Hoisin sauce (since they offer Pho) for them but when I asked for the hot sauce, it was just chili oils. Also, they cut them in half & I prefer them whole. They seem to get messy when they're cut. Then we ordered Panang Curry which was great - very creamy. However, the Pad Thai was way too sweet. I've never had it so sweet before. Service was really good, right until the server brought the check while we were still eating, which made us both feel rushed. We were the only people in the restaurant at this point. It was 4:30pm on Sat night so they weren't closing. So 50/50 on dishes & 80/20 on service. read more

One of my favorite Thai restaurants! Small place, simple basic decor, but the selections, food, & service are great! It's located in the strip mall on Matlock, just south of I-20. Portions are small for the price (thus 4 stars). My favorites are the pad see ew & Bangkok fish. Tom yum soup & papaya salad were also good. I wasn't impressed with crispy beef under "chef special" section - was bland & not "crispy". Most of the non-vegetarian prices (I.e. noodles, fried rice, curry) on menu apply only if you choose chicken or pork. There are extra charges for beef and seafood. While the extra charge for seafood is common, it's unusual for the beef option. read more

Probably the most perfect Thai food in the area. Many Thai places are becoming just carbon copies of each other, kind of becoming genericized but this place has a special flavorful homemade touch to it. Even their standard dishes like Panang and Pad Kee Mao taste special. It was like I was eating Thai food for the first time again. They also have a selection of Lao dishes too, which is similar to Thai but has a more rustic and vibrant taste. Even their Vietnamese style Pho was very good.
