First, this is a very small pizza shop, so expect to take your slice to go!! Second, I read a few older reviews before coming here today that mentioned a $10 credit card minimum...well I showed up anyways not having any cash on me. Well, I'm happy to report that this is NO LONGER a requirement!! They must've been pretty busy today (Friday lunch hours) because they only had a few different options left for pizza by the slice. I ended up getting one Spinach Mushroom slice and one Plain slice. The Spinach Mushroom should be renamed to "Mushroom Lovers" because it was FILLED with mushrooms!!! Waaaay too many for my taste. I mean, I like mushrooms but they have an overpowering taste.. I ended up throwing this piece away because I couldn't deal with it. Their Plain slice, however, was really good! It came fresh out of the oven (the best time to get a slice!) and the cheese was so stringy and gooey. Loved it! Also, the staff were friendly and chatty, which is something I always appreciate. They seem to have regulars that they know by name, which I always take as a good sign! I noticed from past photos shared here on Yelp that they've historically had more vegetarian slice options, so I'll come back again to try them out. This isn't a place where someone takes their time to eat, since theres only a small table for one to eat at. One of the best locations for a pizza place across from 7 train 40th and Lowery stop. Staff is all really friendly and fast. Pizza is consistently incredible quality. One of the best pizzas I've tried in queens! They have a pretty big selection and you can do half and half for most pies. A pie is ~$31 normally. I usually opt for the margherita by default and I've tried the chicken parm and bbq chicken slices. I prefer the chicken parm over the bbq, but they're both very hefty in volume. One of the better NY slices you're going to get in Sunnyside., especially considering the lack of options in the area. The sesame seeds they put on the crust definitely works and it's perfectly crispy and flavorful. Really no complaints on the food for a slice that costs less than $3. However, beware that they close whenever they want. I've gone a few times 30-45 minutes before closing only to see no prepped pizzas on the shelves and the stools turned upside down on the counter. So if you're planning to go I'd recommend showing up at least an hour before the official closing just in case it's a rainy or slow day and they decided to shut the doors early. read more

Been coming here for 5 years. The chicken parm pizza is awesome! I order it every time. Tonight it went from the usual great pie to a perfect pie. The proportion of mozzarella, sauce, ricotta and breaded chicken was just right. 2 slices fills me up and leftovers for the next day or two. The crust is not only tasty but the texture being crunchy (almost buttery, perfectly flaky) on the outside and soft and airy on the inside is hard to match. The icing on top is the toasted sesame seeds on the crust. Tonight we had a perfect pie. Thanks Sunnyside! I stopped by this place to try out their pizza. In Sunnyside, this seems to one of maybe two pizza joints (by the slice) on/to the north of Queens Blvd that's not a combo type establishment. There's a couple to the south (Lenny's, Giovanni's), but they're a bit far for me to pickup to the point where my pizza would probably get cold heading back to my apartment (unless I eat it there, which kinda defies my main goal of pizza joints....) As I digress, I tried this place out. It's super tiny so expect to just pick up and go. Surprisingly, the cheese slices were not on the main counter (interesting), but I found it ready on the side to the point where the man behind the counter just served me a couple slices hot without having to reheat. After going back to my apartment (about a 5 minute walk or so), the pizza was still hot, which was a good sign. The base of the pizza tasted up to par for me and the sauce had an interesting kick to me. The only thing I did not like was the sesame seed crust. This sounds unpopular, but I wasn't a fan. I like sesame bagels and sesame seeds on its own, but not on pizza crusts. It was just too strange for me, especially writing this a few days after eating the pizza. It sucks because everything else was pretty good and the price is standard for NYC pizza. I just couldn't get myself to enjoy the sesame crusts, so I have to give this place a 3 star review. If you want stellar pizza that's absolutely jam-packed with toppings then you need to go to Sunnyside. The people behind the counter are phenomenal, from Jose tossing the dough to Joss taking your order. Even grumpy Michael is a stand-up guy. I've come for a slice and stayed for hours talking and laughing and having an amazing time with these wonderful folks. I don't know if it's the cheapest and honestly I don't care about that sort of thing. Give me quality over cost any day of the week. Not to mention, it's a slice, the difference in price between joints can be counted in quarters, so I don't understand why people get tied in knots over pocket change. If you're in the neighborhood, do yourself the favor of trying their pizza. The Buffalo Chicken is my go-to though the Spinach on White pulls me in when I'm trying to eat "healthier". Yes, imagine air quotes around the word "healthier". This is pizza after all. Top 3 pizza spots in NYC. I'm from Sunnyside so it's very convenient for me. Lots of parking and near the 7 train. The folks working here are great. Super friendly and good service. The pizza is on point. The dough and sesame seed crust is where it's at. The sauce has a nice sweet and tanginess to it. If you are looking for a bland, lack luster tasting slice with minimal amount of sauce and cheese this is not the place for you. On the other hand for me there is no other pizzeria in the neighborhood that offers fresh, savory, crunchy pizza with a generous amount of real cheese. The ratio to sauce and cheese is on point. The sesame on the crust adds an additional texture which really makes their pizza stand out from all the other pizzerias in the neighborhood. The regular slices were away from view so I could not have seen they had sesame seeds on them. I opened the box to apply my seasonings and realized all of my slices (3 regular) (1 margarita) had sesame seeds on the crust and even on the cheese part. I have been going to Sunnyside Pizza for more than 10 years and I'm sorry to say I won't be going back there. The quality has declined a bit but the biggest problem is the staff. The owner isn't there very much anymore and his workers don't care about good service. In particular there is a young guy that works there who is rude and unsanitary. I've seen him without a mask multiple times, talking over the food, going on and on. I've seen him use the same hand for food and money. He literally put my pizza on the countertop where a pizza box was just sitting. When my bf raised this as an issue, he rolled his eyes. This is not the first time. I have tried almost all the pizzeria in sunnyside neighborhood. My first time trying the sunnyside pizza and I was glad making the trip here to order some pies. Their pizza isn't cheap but worth the price you're paying for. I ordered the spinach pizza which I believe it was $24 also order the buffalo chicken pizza with blue cheese crumble which was $30 something. They are not stingy with the toppings like other places. Their spinach pizza & buffalo chicken looks delicious, worth the price & worth the picture. I was going through their menu in the morning I wanted to try either bbq chicken or buffalo chicken so just went with buffalo chicken. Next time I will try their bbq chicken it looks amazing on Yelp pictures. The lady I spoked with on the phone was very nice which is a big plus. Overall sunnyside pizza will be on my number 1 list for pizzas. There are few seats with a stand. It's pretty a small store so it's mostly like a take out place. An update after I tried to the pizza. Will you bite the hand that feeds you? Will you stay down on your knees?: NEIN! Originally when I thought they just sold Pizza, they were my 2nd fave spot in NYC, behind Luigi's on 5th in Brooklyn. Seriously though, this is my *favourite* slice in New York City and one of my five *favourite pizzas* in the entire USA and I do not say that lightly because I f**king love pizza, and I f**king love NYC Pizza, and have probably tried well in excess of 200 of the top rated slices in the region. Specifically, as mentioned, you need to get yourself the Garlic Bread Slice. I've tried others from here and while they were nommably nomtastic, they did not hold a candle to the Garlic Bread Slice. I can honestly say I've never tasted anything quite like it. It's thicker than most NY slices, and much wetter and juicier. The tomato sauce is rich and heavy. The cheese is used sparingly and that just makes it all the more enjoyable. The crisp crust is awash with a plethora of sesame seeds which wouldn't seem like something I'd want... until I bite into it and realize that I'm orgasmic in my foodpants. As an aside: I used to side with Cher in terms of who the victim was. But now that he is gone (RIP), I can definitely see "Sonny's side." And of course, best of all, there is the garlic. I suppose compared to Astoria and Long Island City, some might say this neighborhood is on the "Slummy-side" but forget that. If you've been to Detroit, West Baltimore or East Buffalo lately, Queens Blvd is paradise. And this pizza slice? The word paradise does not do it justice. How can a slice in Queens be the best slice in NYC? Don't ask me. It just is. I call them like I taste them. I find it hard to order just one slice when I'm here. No matter how full I am. In fact, if my German friends are with me, we order at least NEIN! YAAAAAA! There are actually multiple facets to me. But if you only know me from my Yelp reviews, then you only know my "Punnyside." So, in conclusion. Hit up Louie & Ernie's in the Bronx, try Bleecker St Pizza or Prince St Pizza in Manhattan, try Capri Pizza in Jersey, and go to Louie's on 5th ave in Broke-lyn. As pizza joints continue to pop up all over the neighborhood, Sunnyside Pizza has probably garnered the most fanfare of them all. There are no gimmicks, no pretense, and almost no seats at this Queens Blvd pizzeria, just slices, pies, and a lot of love from the hood. They might just be the leading contender for the most consistent pie of all. Despite its old school look and feel, Sunnyside Pizza has really only been around for a few years. It was naturally a bit shaky at first (prices changed quickly, pies were on and then off the menu), but it seems they've found their footing. They now have pies on display for all to see daily and while the prices are fair, I still miss the days of an $11 pie. Such is inflation. One of their claims to fame, has been their infamous crust. All pies, round or square, feature a sesame seeded crust. This didn't win me over initially, but now I can dig it and I'm certainly not alone. I've always been partial to pepperoni, but they do make a mean BBQ chicken pizza and their Sicilian magherita is as tasty as it looks. Shout out to their grandma pies, that alone is worth a trip here. Overall, big ups on the presentation. Lastly, the guys who work here are as amiable and as local as they come. I got two slices of the margherita pizza and it was delicious, with a nice crunch and blister to the crust. The counter guy told me he was charging me slightly less since one of the slices was small. They have some of the best tasting pizza this side of Gaby's. They have sesame seed dough that has just a hint of spice. Plenty of cheese and sauce makes for a pizza lover's dream.
