I never feel rushed during my exams, and she takes the time to make sure my prescription is perfect. I was able to have trials of several different brands of contacts. I like that the follow-ups are all included in the initial pricing. It's such a nice change to go somewhere local where they remember your name and actually care about your experience. I really like the people I've dealt with at Sunnysight over the years, and have even given the place highly favorable reviews. But I'm fed up with the service breakdowns and poor quality of the glasses I paid quite a bit of money for. Twice. I'm not going back. Some six years ago I bought glasses there. I bought some very impressive (and expensive) frames after one of the people there demonstrated that they were pretty much indestructible. Folded them, bent them every which way. Impressive. The frames fit well and were comfortable. After a fairly short time I stopped wearing the glasses because the lenses, which never had very hard use, became so foggy and scratched that it was irritating to try to see through them. I set them aside. A few years pass, and it's time for a new prescription. I thought about those great frames and decided to go back to Sunnysight and get the prescription and see if maybe they could put better, more scratch resistant lenses in. They could. Several weeks pass (much longer than it would have taken to get glasses online from China) and I went to pick up the glasses. Minutes later, the very first time I took them off, the left temple fell off. I walked back to Sunnysight and was told they'd be fixed and I could pick them up a few days later. I went back when instructed and they weren't ready. I went back in a few more days and picked them up. A couple of days later the same left temple fell off again. So, back to Sunnysight. This time a guy worked on them on the spot and returned them to me. I wore them without incident for a few months. And then, today, the same part fell off and the glasses are again unusable. I should note that these expensive high-tech frames have some kind of special hinges so I cannot fix them myself. The glasses have never had more than normal use. So, with overpriced frames, delays, and expensive glasses that can't be used or fixed, I've had it with Sunnysight. I am very diligent about buying local from small businesses, but they've made it impossible. I tried. read more

I really like Dr. Tran. I felt that she was thorough and clearly listened to my concerns about my current prescription. She did give me a slightly stronger prescription (which I am in the midst of adjusting to, which always takes time for me due to my astigmatism) and she took time to examine my eyes and inquire about my eye health, as there are some abnormalities that exist for me that do not for others. However, I do understand the issues that people have mentioned regarding customer service. The layout in this office is extremely awkward, and I think that lends itself to the problem. There's a lot of underutilized space. Much of this space is dedicated to expensive eyeglass frames, to the point where having a doctor there is almost secondary. There are two large desks towards the back for two separate receptionists/office assistants, which seems excessive. When you walk in, you really have no sense of where to go, especially if there's someone (a client) sitting at that front desk already. The machinery where they take photos of your eyes is behind those desks, so you basically get all these tests done while people are browsing eyeglass frames. It's a little weird. At the end, there was almost a point where I thought they were charging me a co-pay for a specialist, but I had to clarify that was incorrect. I wasn't sure if they were misunderstanding or informing me, but it was resolved, and I paid only the $5 co-pay. Definitely would like to continue going here in the future. read more

I found the sales woman who helped me pick out glasses here to be incredibly pushy; she would blatantly disregard the budget I was giving her and hand me glasses that were $100-$200 over what I wanted to spend. The desk staff always seemed to charge extra for exams, like literally double what i used to pay when I lived in Brooklyn, as well. I've since found a new eye doctor in Queens and it made me realize i was putting up with unnecessary upcharging from Sunnysight Optik for way too long. My new doctor doesn't charge me for two separate exams when i go in to order the same exact contacts that I ordered the prior year - a common occurrence at Sunnysight Optik. If you don't mind paying double and live in Sunnyside then the convenience of this place cant be beaten, but otherwise, please note there are other better options out there, and within a couple stops on the 7 train. read more

You don't get what you pay for. It's unfortunate I have to write this review as I specifically choose Sunnysight to replace my sunglasses lenses to support small local businesses. I had two orders to fill my single lens prescription from my optometrist in Manhattan. One went to Costco and my Sunglasses went to Sunnysight. I asked for polarized lenses as I drive long distance and they are great. They should be crisp and much clearer than those without polarized. My last pair were from another eyewear place so I knew what to expect. Without frames the cost was $300.00 to place the order at Sunnysight. Upon pick up the lenses seemed so dull and weak I thought they got the prescription wrong. Apparently they do the lenses themselves there to save costs and don't send out to a lab. I left and wore them for a few hours and just couldn't get past how weak they were and left a message with no reply. When I picked up my regular glasses at Costco with the same prescription it was like a brand new day. They were crisp and clear. I wore my sunglasses for over a week and decided to bring them to Costco to replace the lenses with the polarized and it's unfortunate, but I will continue to do so in the future. The cost was approx $160 with frames and polarized lenses which if I had both of my glasses done at the same time it would have been much cheaper, but I didn't. Comparing the two the latter was much more efficient and Sunnysight's lenses were dull. I could only suspect the lenses were processed with lower grade materials, which the price should have reflected. This was the most I've ever paid for lenses, with the worst results. In the end I paid almost $500.00 with what could have cost me $160 and I'm not ok with that especially in these days and times. read more

I purchased frames at Sunnysight Optik in the spring for $600. Unfortunately, they are crooked. The left side of the frames are higher than the right. As a result, I am constantly readjusting them, In order to make them level. I've had them adjusted at least five times, but the issue is not resolved. My experience with Sunnysight Optik was absolutely terrible. I went in for a routine eye and exactly and they told me I needed glasses. Then they processed to tell me they would cost over$500 even though I have I insurance. I have very good insurance at that. I knew something was wrong by the way the staff acted, caring more about the sale then me actual eye care. Today I went to see another eye doctor for a second opinion. They said I have 20/20 vision and absolutely do not need any glasses. Sunnysight Optik is an absolute scam! Horrible business. Do not go there for real care. read more

One of the best optic place I've ever been to. I HIGHLY recommend everyone to come here. Recently, the doctor from Sunnyside Optik actually caught something during one of my yearly eye check ups that other doctors haven't. Turns out I had a pituitary tumor and I remember her telling me to get an MRI scan just in case because my eyesight wasn't improving. I got the MRI scan and had to actually get an emergency surgery. Long story short, Sunnyside Optik just saved my eyesight, because the tumor was so big it would've been worse. I'm so grateful of this place. COME COME COME !!! read more

They said they'd email it when the doctor was done. Never received. Contacted again via their website form. Never received. Will I ever get the Rx? Unsure. First time going here due to a new health insurance. Used to go to Cohens...never will again. This place blew Cohens (and any other eye care provider I've been to) out of the water with their helpfulness, friendliness and professionalism. Diana and Dr. Linda Bui were amazing. We were all going through this experience together -- trying to figure out what my health insurance covered, as it was their first time with this specific plan too. They were both extremely patient and understanding as I tried to figure out what I wanted to do (stick to daily disposables or go back to bi-weekly for cost efficiency). The cherry on top: Dr. Bui threw in a pair of bi-weekly trials at my initial exam so I could see how they felt again, a box of contact lens solution, a handful of pairs of my usual daily lenses to keep my supply flowing if I didn't like them, and some eye drops at the time of purchase today. Too bad eye care is typically a once-a-year type of thing because I'd love to be their customer more often. All in all, **HIGHLY RECOMMEND** especially if you live in the Sunnyside/Woodside area. Last week I was down to my last pair of contact lenses and they were an old prescription that wasn't right for me anymore, so my vision was rather poor. (I had to wear readers in addition to my old contacts which was cumbersome). I went to Sunnyside Optik. Dr. Ngyuen gave me a very thorough eye exam and I got a trial pair and a week's worth of lenses that were very good for me. I had a follow-up appt. and Dr. Clapper was very thorough as well. I ordered six months worth of lenses and was given another week's worth of lenses to tide me over until they come in. Everyone at Sunnyside Optik was very pleasant and professional. Amazing office and by far my best experience having my eyes checked. Having not done an eye exam in years I was a bit nervous going through the whole procedure again, but the friendly staff greeted me and quickly ran all the scans and tests in a timely fashion. Eye care is expensive so you want the best service and your prescription to be perfect. Sunnyside Optics will provide you exactly that. The eye exam with Dr. Tran was very thorough. She took the time to understand my problem and needs and made sure my prescription was perfect and won't give me headaches. After figuring out my prescription she tested it with a glasses device using premade lenses that matched the prescription. She told me to walk around the shop with it to make sure the prescription was comfortable. The staff was also extremely helpful helping me select frames and broke down the cost for me. Excellent service and nice selection of quality frames. I ended up with a light weight Orgreen frame, but still expect to drop a few hundred dollars even with insurance. They probably have more affordable frames, but I didn't inquire about them. If you are replacing the lenses of your frames they can be made on the spot. read more

It was my mistake. I made an appointment because from the internet I thought this would be a local eye doctor and I'm suffering from an eye infection. When I walked in, I realized my mistake. But the response was, "She's a doctor. She's an optometrist!" They didn't even know the difference between an optometrist and an ophthalmologist. The optometrist may be wonderful for selling glasses, but not what I needed. However, to add insult to injury, the store lists UFT insurance outside, but the staff didn't know what I was talking about when I referenced the UFT. For me, anyway, this was a bummer. read more
