Our technician, Michael Jarrett, was the best and made connecting my solar panels super easy! He was extremely polite, friendly, professional, and helpful during our appointment. He apologized for arriving a couple of minutes late, wore a face covering, and explained what he needed us to do in order to complete the installation. It is our first time owning solar panels so we had many questions. Michael, however, had no problem with answering them all and even gave me a phone number to reach if we continued to have questions regarding the system after he left. He also explained what to look out for if we experience problems with the panels in the future. The customer service for SunPower is definitely top-notch so I am not entirely sure why the rating is so low. If you plan on installing a service with SunPower, I would definitely recommend doing so! Sunpower has let us down time and again - do not choose Sunpower for your solar panels. We originally contracted with Sunpower in early 2022. They led us to believe the install would be done within a few months. It tooks them 8 months to get the job done, and they were poor at communicating updates. Once we finally had our panels and battery installed we were happy - until a few months later when we started having roof leaks and learned from a roof assessment that we should have gotten a new roof prior to install (bought the house 1 year prior and were told it was a 5 year old roof). So clearly Sunpower did a poor pre-install assessment. As you can guess it took several more months to get them to schedule an uninstall so that we could get our roof redone. Now we are 3 months later and they finally finished the reinstall a few weeks ago but have yet to turn our battery back on. We have friends and neighbors who have solar with other companies and no one has shared an experience like ours. STAY AWAY FROM SUNPOWER. read more

For TEN MONTHS I have been trying to get two questions answered to regain use of the SunPower App that monitors daily power production. My monitor/system were installed in 2018, prior to the advent of 5G. As of 1/17/22, the SunPower App no longer works because the monitor is not 5G compatible. It took weeks to get to speak with a human, and an hour of interrogating him to learn that 5G is the problem. Automated promises of return calls were empty promises. Repeated "stock" Emails suggesting I fiddle with circuit breakers to reset the monitor were not relevant to the actual problem. My last request was sent TEN WEEKS ago, and I received a quick automated reply promising follow-up. After 10 weeks, nothing. In my experience to date, SunPower's customer support is nonexistent. They're great at selling, but they offer no after-sale support. Go somewhere else if you hope to have any modicum of support. read more

Despite some challanges with outside contractors failure to come to my appointment he was still able to reset and connect my system. He was also thoughtful and considerate of my young sons special needs and was attentive to our need to have functioning panels. I've been with SunPower for 10+ years. Unfortunately Customer service is non existent and pretty bad. I've had an issue with solar panels not working properly over 18 months that has not been resolved yet. I started the first call regarding this issue back in June of 2022. As I'm sure it has been documented many times, I've called over 20+ times, emailed many times, have had 1 site visit from one of their techs with no resolution to the issue and I've been told over 15 times somebody will get back to me during the next day or two over the last 18 months since I started calling and nobody has contacted me and the issue is still lingering. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! Stuck with these people because our house came with it. The installation and set up for the solar took months! And had it not been for my partner and I we probably wouldn't have solar to this day. They were insistent. They didn't get paperwork from PG&E. We kept asking if there was any follow up if they were doing anything and their representatives and their staff kept saying there's absolutely nothing we could do. We could only wait for the PTO. My husband and I took it upon ourselves to reach out to PG&E and lo and behold. They actually sent the paperwork two weeks after we close so we had gone three months without our solar because of sun powers issues. We had to email the PTO and we even reached out to PG&E to send them a copy as well so much for their proactive staff forgetting that PTO to get us kickstart and I love how they said there was actually nothing they could do when my husband and I were able to do it within a day. Afterwards, you would think once they receive the PTO we would be getting our solar set up no absolutely not. The next issue now was the paperwork or the materials that was put into our house was not matching with sun powers paperwork, so that delayed us even more having our true up increase as each month goes. And while we're experiencing this, the staff members are incredibly unprofessional, promising you things that they could not do on their end even to the point where I had to call them out. We would go weeks without any updates questioning genuinely when we were ever going to get solar. My husband and I thinking we just got scammed thousands of dollars for a service that will never come to us. Sean Winslow offering to do daily calls and emails to ensure that something was being done. WHAT A JOKE. I even had to tell him that wasn't necessary and don't say things you know you can't do you could barely get this man to talk to you once a month and he wanted to commit to giving us updates once a day. We bought our house in July and we got solar, probably around February and about reimbursements. We're waiting for the check in the mail. What's a disaster of a start up for a solar company. I received an email from SunPower's Residential Account Representative quoting me $375 to clean 15 panels. What a joke! Also, since August 7th, all the electricity produced from our panels were not registering with our local utility company. I called the utility company and they confirmed that on their end it shows that we are producing 0 energy even though on the SunPower monitoring website shows that we are mainly using electricity from what we produced. I was told by the utility company to reach out to SunPower to fix the issue. Oh boy... customer service is terrible! They outsource their calls to the Philippines so there has always been a misunderstanding on their end. They cannot answer any of my questions and always deflect my questions by saying "SunPower has a guarantee" and will call or email me back. But this is where it ends. Sunpower installed our solar panel system in our new home in Davis, Ca. 4 years ago. We have a phone app associated with the solar panel system, My Sunpower, that provided real time information in various categories. It was important to us and of excellent quality. More than two months ago the app ceased working and we were told by Sunpower that the system was undergoing an "upgrade". It was a 3G system. Supposedly this "upgrade" would take place by the end of July or so. Still no information and no connection to Sunpower about our system. I have called Sunpower and they confirmed a previous conversation with the local dealer, Ambrose, another less than satisfactory customer service provider, that to get the system and app working I would need to pay $385 for a "service call". This is because my wife and I are owners of the system and do not the lease the system. This is an example of a large company failing to honor its commitment to its customers when a system is "upgraded" and is now reneging on its responsibilities to its customer to maintain its system. We were told that we are on our own and that Sunpower is not responsible for the lack of system information. So we do not know if the new solar system is working or not. We are blind and have been left without any recourse. We refuse to pay this exorbitant amount of money and we hope the state of California investigates Sunpower and its abuse of its customers. Sunpower should upgrade the system for its customers. I would never recommend Sunpower nor its dealers because of this abusive and arrogant behavior. read more

Such a disappointing experience just trying to get a quote that met our needs. The sales rep postponed a meeting with us, then didn't show up to the meeting she'd scheduled with us. She gave us changing reasons for missing the meetings, which eroded trust. When we finally got an estimate, it managed a fraction of our current energy usage, though we'd indicated we wanted to add a heat pump and 2 EVs and generate enough power to cover it all. We even gave the sales rep the energy usage calculations that other bidders had given us since she asked us to do the calculations for EV and heat pump consumption. (Other bidders did it themselves easily.) After a few tries to correct matters, we just gave up on SunPower. It was such a frustrating experience that we didn't want to keep pushing to get the bid to match our needs. We had excellent experiences with two other bidders, so just gave up on SunPower. To cap it off, when SunPower requested our feedback, the feedback form wouldn't submit. Not an impact on our decision, of course, but it was a humorously consistent ending to a poor experience. read more

We just went through a full solar system build with SunPower. The most disappointing thing was their lack of customer service. It would go weeks without getting an email back or a phone call every time I would reach out to them. The city did their job very quickly but I would have to constantly call the job supervisor to relay the information. I probably made 40 calls and 15 emails in the 4.5 months of trying to get the job complete. It took about 4.5 month after starting the process to have solar turned on. When they did the installation, it wasn't complete. They had to return to fix conduit work and after asking them to paint the conduit (4-5 times) they finally did but got paint on the concrete and did a sloppy job. There are many companies you can choose to do your solar. All of them were within a close price. I initially chose SunPower because their sales rep sold me in their great service. On my last email, I had to finally threaten with an attorney to finish the job. I highly regret choosing SunPower and will find every platform available to leave a negative review. I'm not one to normally do this but I felt highly taken advantage of and wouldn't want anyone else to go through this. Especially when there are many other great companies out there. read more

Since doing so: * A SunPower outbound sales representative called me and I requested they provide a list of required information in writing so that I could provide written answers. They sent an e-mail containing said questions that I provided answers for. * Subsequently, 5 different SunPower outbound sales staff have called me and attempted to start asking the same set of questions I have previously answered and stated that I "must be thinking of another company" or that SunPower has never contacted me previously when pointing out that I have answered their questions and am waiting on answers. It isn't particularly difficult to provide an initial proposal for discussion including basic technical, financial and warranty information (as multiple SunPower competitors have managed to since starting this process), however SunPower seems to bee seeking to innovate in this regard and deliver new levels of frustration and harassment! read more

I love having solar as it's reducing my heating costs this winter. However, my roof is leaking and their customer service department is a nightmare- all help staff work remotely and all over the country/workd. I am still waiting for the panels to be removed so I can have my roofers water proof and reseal the areas holes were drilled ( I was told no holes would be drilled!) before replacing the panels on their footings. This has been going on for a month now. Sunpower makes you track down the subcontractors that installed the panels but they're not responding. Grrr . Our solar panels were left stacked 30 high outside upside-down in some of the worst monsoon rain we have ever had after the negligent subcontractor they hired disappeared mid-job for over a week. Neither we or SunPower could reach them. Each panel was left waterlogged in over an inch of water and the electronics and connections underneath each were exposed to and covered in debris. We notified SunPower of our concerns of not only production reduction, but safety, yet the panels were still installed and not exchanged for new ones despite our complaint and request that someone confirm these panels are not damaged and producing as stated in the contract. We have contacted SunPower, however a Manager stated leaving panels in those conditions was normal, and that nothing would be done until there is an issue. Such as a fire, or poor production. This company has great sales people. They sell you the idea of a new, superior product and outstanding warranty and customer service. However in reality, what we got is the opposite. An inferior, mistreated or damaged product with poor customer service past the representative level. If their customer service is this poor how do you think that relates to the warranty they may have to honor 10 years down the line? We are not confident. I installed SunPower solar panels in November 2023. the panels have been working well from what I can tell by my APS bill. However, their app and service after the panels are installed doesn't even deserve a star. It is approaching July 2024 and they have yet to fix my issue. It take months to get someone out and they do who knows what, says it is fixed even though there is nothing showing on their app and they leave. my last contact with them was an email telling me to turn the power off to the system via circuit breaker and a switch on the sol box (which has one of their locks on it) wait a couple minutes and turn everything back on. They do not respond to their customer email and I waited over 2 hours on hold to activate the solar for our new build home (which we were forced to use this company) and the call dropped after waiting that long. They sent activation details in March and that was the only email we received from them since we closed on our new home and moved in in November of 2024. The activation email specified that they would be in touch and we have not received anything from their team since March...10 months ago at this point. While the system itself seems to be okay and is generating power to my house, their customer service is HORRIBLE. It has taken months to get service, and involved hours upon hours of being on hold with offshore call centers who are of no value whatsoever. When a service call was finallly - FINALLY - scheduled, no one showed up, and after more time on hold, their technician called to say he was double booked (and I was somehow the 'short stick'). He assured I would get rescheduled 'right away', but thereafter heard nothing until I started the phone call process again. They are awful. Run away. read more

After posting my initial Yelp review a month ago, Jay from SunPower reached out directly to escalate our case. We had thorough and in-depth contact over the phone and email, and I appreciated that Jay thoughtfully listened and responded to the entire saga of our SunPower experience over the last 4 years. While the outcome of our last compensation claim was not quite what we were hoping for, I am glad we were finally able to put this to bed after 4 months of chasing SunPower customer service (of which only the final month with Jay was actually productive). I appreciated that Jay took the time to explain their compensation calculation methodology for energy production loss (which he noted, and understandably, the company is not obligated to provide) and that he understood why our case was not so straightforward due to the multiple inverters and long history of equipment failures. I am upgrading my review from 1 star mainly because of my positive experience with Jay, who seemed genuinely concerns to address our issue and make it right. Unlike my previous experiences with customer service who never reached out with an update despite promises to do so by XX date for 3 months, Jay actually followed up when he said he would (even if there was nothing to report but to assure us we had not been disregarded). There are still issues SunPower needs to resolve with its equipment failures, lack of an effective notification app / email alert to report such failures, and overall customer service -- as other Yelpers messaged me echoing the same experience. While it is disappointing that it had to take a negative review to get a resolution, I am grateful Yelp provides this platform and also very glad that SunPower takes customers' concerns voiced on Yelp seriously. read more

they finally put the panels back after 10+ months that they took it off and they said it will be $3800 for the removal and reinstalled ...I paid $2050 on July 2023 and now I got a billed for $2450 nope the difference is $1750... i didnt get no solar power for 9 months and my coned bill was $1513.02 but i was being charged every month from sunpower during all the months that i didnt have service. Had to knock it back down to 1 star again since the "final" city inspection failed because, of course, what was in the plans didn't match what was on the wall. Which is insane because SunPower had many months to get this sorted out, with me taking many pictures to send back to them, and them sending 2 techs out on 2 different occasions ahead of the city inspection. My fears of having the whole system being un-grandfathered out of NEM 2.0 and into NEM 3.0, thanks to these delays, grows greater by the day. Definitely not the pleasant or quick experience they made it out to be almost a year (!) ago. The new panels are on while they troubleshoot, so at least I have that going for me. But I still have no visibility into what we're producing vs consuming because the controller is still disconnected from their backend systems. Most importantly, official permission to operate (PTO) seems to be nowhere on the horizon. read more
