While we're still not 100% certain that the problem we've had has been fixed, Sunpower field technicians have been responsive and spent quite a bit of time and effort, the latest of which was to replace wiring from panels to the inverter. I leased my system about this time last year (mid-June). I was excited when Matthew Killing approached me right after I got my new roof. I found out solar is affordable now. So the two biggest hurdles I had holding me back (price and concern over how long the roof might last) were handled when we said 'hi' in my garage. In my part of Illinois, a lot of first time solar was installed last year. Where Sunpower really set themselves apart were the details. Some of the other companies didn't bother with important details, and the stainless steel tubing you can see on the roofs of their installs are sometimes hideous. NOT SO WITH MINE. Sunpower's local installers were very professional and did a great job. It looks very clean. The cabling was run through the attic. I only have one line down the side of the house directly to the control unit and then the meter.. My system was turned on mid September. I didn't see a lot of production until February. But since then I only pay Comed the base change for service (+-$17/mo). I didn't buy this to save money. I'm a lower electricity user in the first place so I didn't expect to save much the first few years. I looked at the ROI when I signed up. And even if I only broke even, even if I somehow pay a little more (doubt it but you never know) I know I am doing the right thing for the planet and setting a good example for my grade school aged children. And future electric bills should have some predictability too. I am happy with my purchase. And the bonus, the panels are aesthetically pleasing (photo attached)! If you are in the market, give these guys a chance. It's worth it. read more

SunPower - Solar Installation Near Me - Richmond, California

Sunpower has met most of our expectations as far as producing energy and providing us a monthly savings on our electricity bill. We basically only have to pay taxes and fees each month. We did have an issue with the Mysunpower app. After working and providing up to the minute production numbers for the first few months, we lost connectivity with the system. I called customer service and was given the run around after finally reaching a live person on the other end of the line. None of the provided suggestions worked (uninstall the app, reinstall, disconnect from WiFi...). I wanted to get a tech to come out, but recieved scheduling difficulties and push back. Today I saw a Sunpower van in our community. As the tech was packing up, I approached him and explained my issue. He reccomended calling the support number. After telling him that I had already with no success, he came over and checked out our setup. Warren Brennan provided outstanding, above and beyond service. Not only did he get us reconnected, he basically reset our service from the ground up after noticing that multiple system checks and information input had not been done post install. Hi, I have recently purchased a house with Sunpower solar power installed. I am trying to add Sunvault. They will not even come out to quote the installation unless I provide blueprints. They did the initial install, and it is their system. But are completely unwilling to help out in any way. Extremely poor customer service. read more

After months of getting email updates that only says I'll provide an update in a weeks, the decision was made this week but only to tell me that the $5k price is final and that there are damages needed for repair that was not mentioned for the last 6 months of me being dealing with this issue. Three stars because my 1/2 of my experience is worth five stars, and the other 1/2 is worth 1 star. I could not be happier with my SunPower rooftop solar system. I had it installed on a new home in 2018. Since then, it has functioned flawlessly. It has kept 8.5 tons of carbon out of the atmosphere and thousands of dollars out of PG&E's filthy, corrupt hands. Five stars! Yay! I am very disappointed with SunPower's "customer service" if such a thing exists. Honestly, I am not sure they even have a customer service department. This company has been a nightmare to deal with. They are impossible to get a hold of! They do not respond to their customer email and I waited over 2 hours on hold to activate the solar for our new build home (which we were forced to use this company) and the call dropped after waiting that long. They sent activation details in March and that was the only email we received from them since we closed on our new home and moved in in November of 2024. The activation email specified that they would be in touch and we have not received anything from their team since March...10 months ago at this point. We have now been in our home for almost 2 months and still have not been able to get ahold of them to activate our solar...It's as if they have a website with 0 people working for them...Terrible service! read more

We have about $35000 dollars of SunPower equipment on our house. Last February the inverter went out (under warranty) and after dozens of calls, hundreds of promises and 10 months later, we are no closer to having our system back up and running. It has cost us thousands of dollars due to our inability to net meter our power as well as many hours sitting at home due to dozens of appointments we were ghosted on and escalations that went no where. They have managed to insulate themselves to the point you really can't reach anyone up the food chain or file a complaint. I was a big fan of their equipment but beyond that, I would never recommend them to anyone. read more

Warren Grennan came to our home and said that he needed to check and see if the system was running. We let him do his job and sure enough the property didn't have the solar panels up and running. He told me that the solar panels had not been charging nor were they setup correctly previously. He had me download the app and sure enough it showed that everything was working properly, he did mention that only 7/8 panels were working so they will have to come out again and replace the one panel. Unfortunately no fault to Warren the property owner/manager doesn't have an application submitted to even access the panels at the time. So we are still waiting for that. They will also be talking to sun power about when to get the panel replaced. If you can request Warren to be your tech it's totally worth it, he was kind and professional and very knowledgeable about his work. read more

We bought it new construction home which came with solar, and w has to have it activated. With the stresses associated with moving and never having used solar, Warren Grennan was the sun power associate who helped us get it going. Without getting into the nitty gritty, Warren was professional, friendly, immensely honest, experienced and knowledgeable. He helped us navigate the new system and explained every step of the way what to expect. I wish more associates in other businesses could take some training from Warren on how to provide customer service. Thanks! read more

This company makes it impossible to get customer service. Our microconverter has had significant problems and we have learned recently that a class action suit has already been filed against the company for faulty microconverters. Ours has been dysfunctional for months now and they have been blowing us off and now say the converter is no longer available but have given NO solution to the problem. There is no alert system in place when your panels are not functioning unless you check the monitoring site every day!!!! So, our PGE bill is outrageous without the solar energy and we are furious with this poorly run company. Our microconverter is still under warranty and it feels like they are stalling until the warranty is no longer viable. Be careful! read more

I just had my Permission To Operate (PTO) and was lucky enough to have Peter G. from SunPower service my solar setup. He told me it would take an hour but surprised me by setting up my solar in 45 minutes. Included in the 45 minutes are the instructions and detailed scenarios that I may encounter with my solar. After talking to Peter, I feel very confident I can manage my solar setup. All in all, I received the utmost professional service and was very satisfied. read more

SunPower - SunPower Solar Breaker - Solar Installation Near Me - Richmond, California

In 2016 had 22 panels installed. In 2019 had 22 microinverters replaced and Sunpower said that would resolve all the known issues with Microinverters as they were using an updated inverter. In 2022 Sunpower added individual panel production to their Android app. Immediately noticed one panel producing 25-50% less than the other 21 panels. Sunpower says the microinverter needs to be replaced again. It looks like the exact same issue and these Microinverters have a lifespan of approx 3 years. Note that recently Sunpower had a class action lawsuit regarding the inverters and all of the failures, loss of production and roof damage. If you own Sunpower check the individual panel production because your dealer and Sunpower will not and they will not proactively notify you of production issues. read more

They talk a good customer service hype but when a problem occurs, they're just as bad as all the others. They promised 1 phone call to help with any problems, but when after 6 months my roof (that they installed) started leaking all they wanted to do was send me a list of people I could call to repair it at my cost. read more

I had my Sunpower system installed about 3-4 years ago. The system worked well at first, but then my production has decreased significantly (40 percent in some months) in the past year. I didn't notice at first because the weather varies. Then I did an analysis of my month by month production over the past 12 months. Each of the last 12 months was lower than their corresponding month the prior year. I called my installer (Sea Bright Solar) and they eventually sent out a tech to diagnose the issue. It turns out that two of my inverters had failed. Shouldn't there be a way that Sunpower, or my installer would know there's a problem? How many customers compare generation from one year to the prior? Their app can tell me how much I generate each hour. Why can't it tell me when some of my panels are producing nothing? Now I'm going to be stuck with a bill when my "true up" comes next April -- it's always $0, or a credit. Meanwhile, after hearing nothing from the installer, I contacted them two weeks ago and they said they're waiting for the authorization and parts from Sunpower. No communication since then. I'm not a happy customer. Update: Two weeks after saying that they "have assigned your open case to an Escalations Specialist to reach out and assist you.", I've heard nothing from them. The parts have not arrived to repair my system, and more money is being flushed down the drain. read more

I first reviewed this company in AUGUST 2023. It's OCTOBER. Nothing has improved. I still have a system damaged by Sunpower's authorized partner and Sunpower does nothing to help. They authorize unqualified companies to represent Sunpower that do not have a contractor's license in the state of Arizona. These companies don't even have the resources to install and maintain solar. They are simply a storefront that hires other unlicensed companies to do the shoddy work. If you try to contact anyone at Sunpower to discuss this issue, there is simply no way to get to senior management. You can post reviews on social media. Zero follow-up. My requests to talk to someone in the organization are ignored. My system was damaged by one of these "partners" back in April. I hired them to detach and reattach my 2 year old panels for a roof repair. That's yet another story. When they installed the system, they said my roof was ok. Not. There was damaged plywood under the installation area so now I'm out $5000 in extra expense and lost production. Yeah. Great experience with solar. On with the rest of the fiasco. I found a company on Sunpower's partner website so I should be safe hiring them, right? Nope. It turned into a total fiasco. In addition to the damage to the new roof (about 50 broken concrete tiles) during the install, the unlicensed "partner of the unlicensed Sunpower partner" damaged the inverters and cables leaving my system not producing full power. They installed the panels unevenly as seen in the picture. They installed the panels dirty because they stored them unprotected on rocks and soil. They threw the cables on the ground with connectors unprotected. When they were done, they didn't fully test the system to prove it worked. Hey. Voltage. See, it's working isn't enough. They didn't properly install the panels to the original locations and mapping. When a panel fails, you don't know the location. Immediately afterwards, I noticed a seemingly reduced power output with almost no change in the weather conditions that persisted day after day. I complained to my Sunpower partner about the dirty panels hoping that might be the cause of the approximately 5% reduction. He said they don't clean panels but would send someone out to clean them as a courtesy at no cost. Wow. I think you shouldn't make them dirty in the first place. He sent out a kid that didn't even know where to get on the roof. He didn't have cleaning supplies. I had to provide a hose. Cleaning? He stood on the edge of the roof and simply sprayed them! Maybe 50% effective in cleaning. Before they were removed, they had no dirt even after 2 years. I'm starting to see the pattern of incompetence. Power reduction remained. Not a dirty panel issue. My "escalation specialist" at Sunpower claimed it was likely caused by the increased temperature as we headed into summer. Not true. Since they didn't prove it was fully working, it was on me to isolate and prove the power reduction wasn't caused by the weather. I wasted days collecting statistics on power output, temperature, annd other weather conditions over the past 2 years proving weather was not the issue to the partner and Sunpower. Sunpower assigned "escalation specialists" that were worthless in solving the issue. The partner denied there was a problem. Sunpower finally agreed to send another partner company to take a look at the problem and found the damaged inverter and cable but did nothing. My "escalation specialist" at Sunpower wouldn't provide the info to me or the partner. They just walked away and told me it was their partner's problem to solve. Great escalation, right? This took from April to about July for the next step. The partner brings in another seemingly competent licensed specialist. At this point the problem has been identified. Need parts. It's now OCTOBER. No parts. Incorrect parts. Missing parts. Folks, this is not rocket science. It's a micro inverter and cable and the partners and Sunpower can't get it right. No sense of urgency. There are no escalations within the partners. There are no escalations within Sunpower. Senior management at Sunpower has ZERO concern for customers and illegal activity. ZERO. They won't return my calls and emails. Escalation specialists do nothing and just disappear if you turn up the heat. Authorization of partners is obviously mismanaged and is simply a piece of paper with no teeth. How can a company authorized partners that are not licensed by the state? How can a company be authorized if they have no trained staff? How can a company be allowed to hire unlicensed and untrained contractors to do the work? Folks. I have managed authorized partner programs internationally for a $2B+ computer company. Sunpower is providing an illusion of service and safety with it's partner program. Want to share that even after they reached out and assigned a support specialist, we have not gotten any resolution on our solor panels. The support specialist mentioned that they were able to see all the panels working on their end, but the sun power application on our end says that only 8 panels are generating. We have been trying to reach the escalation specialist for over a week now and we still have not hear back. Be careful when you read the comments the post on the reviews here. They will make seem like they are trying to do something but from what I see and have experienced so far, its just to make it seem like they care, but in reality they really dont. read more

My system was only 12 months when it started malfunctioning. It's been now three months since I reported the issue to SunPower, and after 60 days and weekly calls to follow up, nothing has happened. The local dealer I bought this system from went out of business, read other reviews. It seems like everyone dealing with this company goes out of business. Their customer service is terrible; they never follow up; their partner technicians are irresponsible and don't care about their work orders; hence things don't get fixed. There are far better companies offering quality solar systems to save yourself the hassle and look somewhere else; if I could, I would get rid of my SunPower system today. read more

I contacted sunpower to add a solar system to our roof in March before the NEM 2.0 changes. It all sounded good. Per SunPower - they had capacity and work on steep roofs and claimed to have experience adding a second solar system. I was warned they were busy and needed time to catch up with the surge in requests with the changes to NEM. The site inspection was done in 10 days as scheduled so that was not a problem. So I waited, and waited and waited. More than 60 days after the contract they refused the project citing the roof incline as too steep. I kid you not, that was the first question I asked SunPower. Sales does not communicate with Engineering. Besides the obvious failure here there is more to critique. The site inspection was done by their SunPower tech in their SunPower company van which was left running at the curb with the windows down for 30 minutes. I asked him why he left it running and he replied to charge the batteries? I can't figure that out as it was a gas powered work van. From my perspective, any company that feels good about leaving their work van full of equipment running unattended out of site with the windows down in an urban city is not one I want to business with. There are many companies that perform good work on steep roofs without delay or lies or contract rejections. Simply Solar and Golden Gate Solar are two. It looks like SunPower has earned their below average Yelp rating. read more

They also tailgated me a couple times. I don't know if they were late for work or something, but they were an impatient and unprofessional driver. This occurred in the Hilltop Richmond area. Please DO NOT get solar panels from this company! Their customer service is ridiculously bad, and I wished I did research before getting panels from them. The installers broke my a/c fan, and I notified sunpower in June 2023. They gave me case #03367429. They've told me on several occasions that I should expect someone coming in 3-5 days. I've contacted them about 5 times now and I get the same response everytime. It's been close two months now at the time of writing this. Just do some quick research on sunpower customer support. We bought a home and had to assume a Sunpower solar lease. On the plus side, we don't have to wait to get solar installed and we are grandfathered into the net metering program in CA. Since closing in December, Sunpower has repeatedly failed to get us set up on ACH. I finally had to file a complaint with the CA attorney general's office. They also failed to tell me I could set up an account online. They sent me pdfs and said that was the only way... Well, we're now on autopay due to my registering online and now they are telling me I am set up and to cancel it? It's a cluster fuck. In reading some of the negative reviews here, I'm now learning that there should be an app we have access to & I'm still waiting for them to get back to me about upgrading our system with storage & an EV charger. While we are so grateful to have solar, we're underwhelmed by Sunpower. read more

Our battery is still not working after more than 3 months of approved PTO. We are very disappointed with the progress of our solar project. We were assigned a project coordinator after signing the contract. This coordinator would either not respond to our emails at all (most time) or respond late. There were a period of time that we thought he quit his job at SunPower. Then one day he replied to one of our emails magically. To resolve the battery issue, we had contacted SunPower multiple times besides the non-responsive project coordinator, such as chat through app and call through help line. We were told that a 3rd party contractor will conduct a site visit. But nobody knows when that will happen. Don't buy SunPower's battery. It wouldn't work!!! read more

I have called customer support complaining about 3 of solar panels producing less than 25% compared to the similar located solar panels. I waited an hour on the line to be told that the solar system works fine (and that it's hitting the required daily average). This is BS. They are just lazy and don't care about their clients. I feel like I have an obligation to warn people of this company. My mom had solar installed by them several years ago and everything was done in-house by SunPower. Her experience was excellent and so when I started talking about installing solar, she highly recommended them. The short story is SunPower installed a system one year ago and we now have panels that may not all be working. We also have a partially working SunPower solar wattage reporting box (the original one broke & they can't seem to fully set up the new one), a broken AC Unit that we can't fix because our a new main electrical panel was installed & labeled incorrectly by a third-party electrician SunPower contracted with, we've had to pay PG&E for electrical usage, we have no promised referral fee and no SunPower support. Beware, they outsource almost everything to untrained third-party vendors. Doing the project with them was a very expensive and time consuming mistake. We had a good experience with the sales rep Ian B. (no surprise) but the communication between our assigned project manager (Mason V.) and the on-site general manager was very inconsistent. A SunPower crew came out a couple times without informing us of their arrival ahead of time. SunPower asked us if they could coordinate directly with the roofers we hired & then showed up the same day as the roofers and made the roofers wait while they did their panel support installation that should have been done before the roofers arrived. We had to have our main electrical panel replaced to accommodate the new solar subpanel which SunPower said they would do (and was a big reason why we went them) but one of their planners misread the information and then refused to do the work after we had signed the contract. We had to fight to get their technician to review our house specs again where upon she admitted, she "misread" the notes. (Note: This was after we were berated by Ian B. that SunPower was not an electrical company, and they didn't have to do anything that wasn't necessary for the project. It was easier for him to defend and deny than review their work and admit they might have made a mistake.) SunPower then had a technician take pictures of the new electrical panel location that were at an angle and told us we had to "build a level workspace" before they could schedule the work. We resubmitted pictures that didn't look like someone inebriated had taken them to show that the ground was already level, and they finally scheduled our work. They hired a third-party electrician, who botched the job & didn't fully connect a fuse after the upgrade. It took three days to get the issue fixed because SunPower wouldn't let me contact the third-party electrical company directly. We didn't know it then, but the third-party electrical company also mislabeled our breakers, and mis-wired our AC unit. We can't get a HVAC provider to fix our AC unit (which now isn't working) until an electrician fixes the wiring and the SunPower project manager Mason V. won't return my emails or calls. Their call center support is based overseas & not helpful, and their in-person tech support is another third-party company who has limited support from SunPower. The SunPower box (that relays the panels wattage details) they installed on the side of the house shorted out six months after the installation and it took them another couple of months before they had their third-party support company replace it. The guy from the third-party company couldn't get his SunPower support to remotely enter the boxes' serial number (she seemed untrained and made us wait over an hour for nothing) to activate it and so the new box doesn't fully work. My calls to SunPower's overseas support team have gone nowhere and I believe they're still "looking into it". While SunPower's box was out of commission something tripped the solar subpanel and our solar got turned off and because we couldn't see our solar input / output, we ended up paying two months of electrical usage with PG&E while also paying our solar loan. Before everything went to hell with SunPower, we referred a neighbor to them. She went through with the project, but after the panel was installed SunPower couldn't get the panels to work. They never even honored their $500 referral fee. read more

We have a brand new build house and we are being forced to pay astronomical PG&E bills while Sun Power will not activate our solar. We call them and they blame PG&E, we call PG& E and they blame Sun Power. We have a very tight budget and figured this out prior to purchase. Solar was a major selling point and pricing crucial. No one is taking responsibility and we continue to go in the hole. Not impressed at all with this racket. I'm sure sun power installation and service is good, but their upper management does not care about getting us done asap, they just pass the buck! Beware and plan ahead if you are buying a new home. SunPower tech Warren was great, he arrived on time and was very informative. He was able to get our system activated in less than an hour.

Wow where to start. We selected them after interviewing several. We selected them based on several factors. What we failed to see was how poorly they are organized. This was over a year ago by the way. They would send a crew out to do part of the job, but that crew would not know what the other crew was doing. I felt like I was their project manager. There was a lot of miscommunications between these groups. Some groups were poorly trained and other had to come behind them and fix their work due to it failing some sort of quality check. I was told by some of the employees that they just grab people off the street. Anyway- lots of issues and it did not work properly. It took 6 months after installation and 6 different groups of people to come out and fix it to get it to work. I have a clay roof. They broke some tiles. I asked for a final check on broken tiles, and they ghosted me. I guess that is my problem now. When I saw the bankruptcy notice, it was not a surprise. I would strongly encourage you to do your research but there is no way I would recommend them. I would like to give them zero stars but I guess that is not an option. read more
