Open service ticket with SunPower who expressed Inverters needs to be replaced. 1 month, 2 months, 3 months and still nudda. Not even a call back till I complained again. I recently purchased a brand new build in the north county area of San Diego California. California requires solar panels on all new builds. Once I moved in and got approval from my power company to operate my solar panels, I noticed that my solar panels were not connecting and I reached out to Sunpower to address the issue. They immediately set up a consultation to have someone come out and take a look at my system. A very nice guy named Warren came out to conduct a check on the system and had it resolved in less than 45 minutes. He was very kind, knowledgeable and responsive to all my questions. My panels are up and running and I couldn't think Warren enough for the assistance. read more

If a zero rating was an option here, I would have used it. Sunpower is either unable to employ professional technicians who tell the truth, or they are too backlogged to show up and do quality work in Palm Springs. After missing two system activation appointments today (the technician did not show up for either) there was no follow up call or customer outreach whatsoever. After me calling into Sunpower and spending ~two hours on the phone, my system is still not activated today. I might get lucky and get a call back from a Manager in 24 hours or worst case 48 hours said the last representative. This is my second time doing business with Sunpower. But, it will be my last. I would NOT purchase from them again. The "your inquiry is very important to us" message on their automated phone system is probably necessary because they have so many unhappy customers. I signed my agreement with Sunpower in Feb 2022. design was completed in august . they were ready for install around Oct 24. however, when I looked at the panels they were white and black. in most of its marketing emails n pics, Sunpower had black panels so I didn't know there were different color options. anyways I asked them to change the panels and was told I would have the black panels next week. Been 4 weeks now with no signs of the panels. unfortunately they already installed the conduit, so im stuck. not sure how long I ll have to wait now and how my federal credit will b handled as the install will span across 2 years . go with your local installer and someone that you can speak to in person vs email/phone.stay away from sunpower read more

Tou Kue activated our system (installation was complete before we moved in). Activation was quick, punctual, and I had several questions answered during the process. So far, we are happy with the service and the ability to monitor power use and production through the app. The 1 missing star is related to the wait times we experienced through each step of the activation process, usually requiring following up to keep the ball rolling. The timeline expectations were not well communicated. It wasn't a long wait, but the repeated delays and monitoring progress were frustrating along the way. read more

My solar panels are leased and the bank requested for the documents. An Agent by the name of Chris Tapia was the one that helped me resolved my issues. Quick few questions, and he was able to send the documents needed. He was quick,professional and efficient.My chat with him actually went smooth. Im used to getting "dropped calls", so i proceeded with trying out the chat option. It was surprisingly quick. For the first year we had no issues then our system stopped working. it took them a week to troubleshoot remotely only to confirm what we already knew. The earliest data for a tech to come out was 4 weeks out and would have been even longer if I hadn't thrown a fuss. The customer service has been horrible. we have not received a single call back that has been promised and when I asked to speak with a manager I was told my request was denied because I've already been escalated and have the earliest tech apt available. If I had know how horrible Sun Powers customer service and tech support was I would have never chosen them. read more

We went with SunPower because they had the highest rating for quality and performance and due to the limited area on our roof, their higher efficiency panels worked perfectly. We were a little nervous when the panels started producing 28% less energy than they should have produced, but after some time, SunPower stood behind their products and replaced 21 of the 25 defective microinverters and even though payment for lost power is not covered under the warranty, they came through and compensated us above and beyond what we were asking! Very impressive! So far they have proven that they do stand behind their products. read more

We had a Great experience going solar with SunPower! After evaluating different options, we found that SunPower was going to last a very long time, their warranty is phenomenal as well. After doing our desert vacation home (jacuzzi and cooling system makes our monthly power bills high), the power bills went down almost nothing! Then we added Sunpower panels to our main house about a year later. We had some minor problems with monitoring, but they fixed it pretty quickly. Our systems have almost eliminated our power bills and we LOVE the fact that we are using clean energy! read more

First, I should explain that I am new construction home owner so I have had a number of service agents and technicians at my home in the past few months. From cable to windows and everything in between. So I can say with confidence that it was a stellar experience. In more detail, Bruce showed up 10 minutes after my appointment window began. He greeted me warmly with a handshake, which unfortunately in this day and age, is rare! He described what both he and I needed to do during the appointment, explained everything thoroughly and was considerate in making sure I was comfortable with the process and unit. He was courteous as well as considerate of my personal comfort, recommending when I needed to put shoes on to look at the panels outside and suggesting I wait inside, out of the cold, when my presence was not needed. I would give them a 0, if possible. To the tune of $41K in 2009, we purchased 24 panels from one of SunPower's dealers, California Solar Systems (no longer in business). We were assured that we would collect an estimate 9600 kWh/year. In actuality, we have never achieved that number; our best year was 8023 kWh (year 2); 2020 @ 3239 kWh; last 12 months @2709 kWh; YTD 2021 @ 1373.7 kWh. Compare that to my neighbor, who has a smaller house: her panels (NOT SunPower) generated 869.75 kWh in JUNE alone!!! I am getting about 10% of what I should. At a glance, the monthly PDF "monitoring" looks good, as the graphs of my energy collection fill the entire page! Users beware! the graphs are total hooey--they SHOULD include an "expected range" with a horizontal red dash marker, then size actual energy performance (y-axis) relative to that. That would IMMEDIATELY set off alarm bells--but their manipulated full screen gives a FALSE assurance. Over 8 weeks ago (May 24), I called customer service, who "sympathized" and "apologized" and put me off and reviewed, then "sympathized" and "apologized" and put me off, and asked for MORE paperwork, etc. Eventually, 4 weeks in, they advised me that my inverter had not been working since January 2020 (17 months after the original had been replaced, 18 months between then and now). They tell me that the inverter was not a SunPower product (it's the one they installed, w/their logo) and that it is out of warranty anyway. What does that mean for my system? I began including executive@sunpower.com in my cc--to no avail, however--another Buyer BEWARE. The SunPower Complete Confidence Warranty "covers repairs and replacements that the solar power system needs for 25 years. ...it guarantees that your panels will not lose more that 8% of their original power output in that 25-year period, which ensure your solar energy system stays efficient and produces the power your home needs." Let's see. I have a 25-year warranty for the SYSTEM--shouldn't that cover ALL parts of the SYSTEM (i.e. inverter)?? I have reviewed my warranties ad nauseum, and I cannot find ANY disclaimer about the inverter's 10 years. I have the assurance, in writing, from California Solar Systems that the SYSTEM is warrantied for 25 years--no small print or caveats. The technicians who finally came (2 months from my initial request) told me that my system is so old that--while the panels still work--today's inverters are totally different and not interchangeable. SunPower is unwilling to warranty the "newer" 2018 inverter beyond the original's 10 years (2019). It seems that they can put in any old replacement piece of crap and hope that it can limp to the 10-year finish line, when they abandon the problem (sucker)!! So, where does that leave me, my panels and my increasing electric bills? Last year, my SC Edison bill exceeded $1250, $1000 more than it should be. Even though the SunPower warranty CLEARLY states that it will compensate, I anticipate they'll "sympathize" and "apologize" and delay, delay, delay, hoping that I'll go away (I won't). For recourse, I am contacting CA Attorney General Office of Consumer Affairs, the national Consumer Protection Bureau, 7-on-Your-Side ABC's consumer advocate, So Cal Edison, my local state representatives for redress. Social media. Word of mouth and anyone/any organization that I can warn off. What happened to companies honoring its commitments? read more

Horrible experience with this company and wish we never used them. Immediately after the initial installation more than 50% of our panels stopped working, customer service was poor and continuously passed from person to person with us having to constantly follow-up and push to get anything done. The panels were eventually fixed but fast forward less than a year the same exact issue happened and we have been running at less than 50% since the end of June (4 months) and the issue still isn't resolved. Spent countless hours on the phone and sending emails following up, passed from person to person, spent over a month trouble shooting the problem before an onsite visit and even that hasn't resolved the issue. We have missed out on 4 months of peak summer solar power and as a result had an expensive bill from SCE. We are still in the process of trying to resolve the issue but may be left with no other option than to end the contract and seek legal options. Do not use this company! read more

I bought a townhouse a couple of months ago that had a SunPower system already installed, the problem was with the activation of this system. Most of my neighbors had this activated within a couple of weeks (or less) but my system took over 3 months, very bad follow-up on my case, they kept blaming my power company for not giving the permission to operate but when I questioned my power company they confirmed it was done a week or so after closing on the house. It was one thing after another until a tech (Warren) was sent to my house and completed the activation process. My interaction with Warren was the first nice interaction, he was knowledgeable and was able to activate on the spot. Once activated I contacted customer service to see if there was anything that could be done because of the delay and the cost it incurred for running the AC during the summer and I was told I would get a call from someone to discuss further and it's been several weeks and no call. read more

One of the worst companies we've done business with. They are very attentive and quick until you sign on the dotted line. Then they stop communicating unless they're trying to up sell. A lot of what they originally said was included, wasn't. They don't answer emails or calls. Especially their sales person Tree. We are in the middle of installation and nobody is talking to us or answering questions. I can only imagine how it will be if we have problems in the future. I really wish I had gone to someone else but for now, all I can do is to let others know to avoid like the plague. read more

I really wanted to like Sunpower, but I have had poor results with them so far. I understand that the last few months have been busy because of NEM3, but they started with a design mistake and now all I have been getting is a run around. The initial design was fine, but then they purposefully moved 2 solar panels right next to my chimney- seriously, the #1 rule in solar is don't put them in the shadow of known, existing features! Even the installers didn't understand why the design was changed that way. After I pointed this flaw out to my account representative, he tried telling me it was fine, there was no problem (even though nearly half a panel will be blocked??!!). I know several solar engineers and they were laughing at Sunpower's stance and appalled that they would even do such a thing. And now, almost 3 months later they still haven't moved the panels like they said they would. Nothing has been done, only "we're still working on it". Sadly, I strongly don't recommend Sunpower to anyone. read more

He confirmed (as I suspected) that there problems with the inital PTO submission (51 days ago) and they had to resubmit --I did get a notification on 3/2/2022, and again on 3/10/2022, so it looks like the PTO "30 business days" clock reset to 3/10/2022 --which means we could be waiting until 4/22/2022 (up to 94 days delay here) --this is just another in a long string of Sunpower blunders. There's also no news on if my new sitemap placard has been made yet --it's been over 2 weeks, and I know they're able to overnight these, so I'm not sure what's going on here --they don't even know if it's been designed yet, let alone ordered and made yet. *update 3/24/2022*: Just got my PTO 30 minutes ago --exactly at the 10 business day mark that PG&E quotes for turnaround time, so we "only" lost 45 days due to mistakes in made by Sunpower on the application (originally submitted on 1/25/2022). Unfortunately, this painful experience is not over yet. I'm STILL waiting on my replacement placard that was supposedly ready to go last Thursday. Also, my app still says that my battery system is not activated yet. I can't wait to be done interacting with Sunpower. *update 3/25/2022*: A very rude Sunpower tech just stopped by with my updated placard --and of course, it's still incorrect in the same way it's been incorrect 5 times already. This time though, they managed to add back items from my previous install that were removed as part of this install. The Sunpower tech was definitely frustrated and acted like I was being a bad customer because I wanted it corrected again. I admit, I wasn't kind to him either, but the amount of money I've spent and time I've waited for one Sunpower delay after another, Im' not going to simply "live with" a mistake made by them (a mistake, which I've pointed out several times since November 2021). I've provided pictures with super-imposed illustrations for Sunpower multiple times to make it absolutely clear what changes need to happen, and they've continued to make the same mistake 5-6 times now. This placard is meant to be a reference for emergencies, so it needs to be accurate. I'm incredulous at the poor communication between Sunpower teams internally. How do you run a business like this? *update 3/26/2022*: Spent 30 minutes last night putting together a vector drawing of my sitemap placard and sent it off to Sunpower to see if they'll use my version to finally get a correct placard made. In the meantime, I've also sent it off myself to get it made online for $30+tax+shipping (~$40). We'll have ourselves a little race with Sunpower to see who can get it done first. They've had a 4 month head start, so I think I've got this in the bag. *update 3/29/2022*: Sunpower has sent me a bill --however, they still owe me a site-map placard, so this project isn't technically complete yet. I'm pretty sure I called this move several updates ago, and was assured by Sunpower that they wouldn't bill me until the project's complete. *update 3/31/2022*: I just got a site-map placard that I designed and ordered myself for $40 online. Looks like I beat Sunpower to it --they had 4 months and 6 attempts to do what I got done in 6 days. I did get a couple of emails and a phone call from Sunpower yesterday. The first email was to "congratulate me" on my system being fully activated (I got PTO 7 days ago and my app showed my system activated within 24 hours of that, so this email is a week late). The second email was a draft of my corrected placard for me to approve (if they had just sent a draft on the first correction back in November 2021, they wouldn't have wasted so much time on this). Next I got a follow-up phone call from my project coordinator. This is the FIRST TIME my project coordinator has spoken to me on the phone. In 251 days of this project from start to finish, this is the first time I'm hearing from a project coordinator --if that's any indication of the level of customer service to expect from Sunpower. The PC confirmed they considered the project completed due to PTO --however, I do have some outstanding items (old data and new data from my previous, existing system and the new system need to be merged, and they're supposedly still sending someone out with a replacement placard). 252 days to project "completion" (incomplete), or 162 days past the 90 day commitment written in the contract. The nightmare is finally over (I hope)... I'll post a final summary of key takeaways/what-to-expect in a separate update. read more
