First, I should explain that I am new construction home owner so I have had a number of service agents and technicians at my home in the past few months. From cable to windows and everything in between. So I can say with confidence that it was a stellar experience. In more detail, Bruce showed up 10 minutes after my appointment window began. He greeted me warmly with a handshake, which unfortunately in this day and age, is rare! He described what both he and I needed to do during the appointment, explained everything thoroughly and was considerate in making sure I was comfortable with the process and unit. He was courteous as well as considerate of my personal comfort, recommending when I needed to put shoes on to look at the panels outside and suggesting I wait inside, out of the cold, when my presence was not needed. I would give them a 0, if possible. To the tune of $41K in 2009, we purchased 24 panels from one of SunPower's dealers, California Solar Systems (no longer in business). We were assured that we would collect an estimate 9600 kWh/year. In actuality, we have never achieved that number; our best year was 8023 kWh (year 2); 2020 @ 3239 kWh; last 12 months @2709 kWh; YTD 2021 @ 1373.7 kWh. Compare that to my neighbor, who has a smaller house: her panels (NOT SunPower) generated 869.75 kWh in JUNE alone!!! I am getting about 10% of what I should. At a glance, the monthly PDF "monitoring" looks good, as the graphs of my energy collection fill the entire page! Users beware! the graphs are total hooey--they SHOULD include an "expected range" with a horizontal red dash marker, then size actual energy performance (y-axis) relative to that. That would IMMEDIATELY set off alarm bells--but their manipulated full screen gives a FALSE assurance. Over 8 weeks ago (May 24), I called customer service, who "sympathized" and "apologized" and put me off and reviewed, then "sympathized" and "apologized" and put me off, and asked for MORE paperwork, etc. Eventually, 4 weeks in, they advised me that my inverter had not been working since January 2020 (17 months after the original had been replaced, 18 months between then and now). They tell me that the inverter was not a SunPower product (it's the one they installed, w/their logo) and that it is out of warranty anyway. What does that mean for my system? I began including executive@sunpower.com in my cc--to no avail, however--another Buyer BEWARE. The SunPower Complete Confidence Warranty "covers repairs and replacements that the solar power system needs for 25 years. ...it guarantees that your panels will not lose more that 8% of their original power output in that 25-year period, which ensure your solar energy system stays efficient and produces the power your home needs." Let's see. I have a 25-year warranty for the SYSTEM--shouldn't that cover ALL parts of the SYSTEM (i.e. inverter)?? I have reviewed my warranties ad nauseum, and I cannot find ANY disclaimer about the inverter's 10 years. I have the assurance, in writing, from California Solar Systems that the SYSTEM is warrantied for 25 years--no small print or caveats. The technicians who finally came (2 months from my initial request) told me that my system is so old that--while the panels still work--today's inverters are totally different and not interchangeable. SunPower is unwilling to warranty the "newer" 2018 inverter beyond the original's 10 years (2019). It seems that they can put in any old replacement piece of crap and hope that it can limp to the 10-year finish line, when they abandon the problem (sucker)!! So, where does that leave me, my panels and my increasing electric bills? Last year, my SC Edison bill exceeded $1250, $1000 more than it should be. Even though the SunPower warranty CLEARLY states that it will compensate, I anticipate they'll "sympathize" and "apologize" and delay, delay, delay, hoping that I'll go away (I won't). For recourse, I am contacting CA Attorney General Office of Consumer Affairs, the national Consumer Protection Bureau, 7-on-Your-Side ABC's consumer advocate, So Cal Edison, my local state representatives for redress. Social media. Word of mouth and anyone/any organization that I can warn off. What happened to companies honoring its commitments? read more

This has to be the worst solar company. It is amazing that after 1 year of signing the contract, I am still waiting for the panels to be installed. The worst is that they don't provide any updates, they send me back and forth between the project coordinator and the sales guy, and at the end, nobody knows the status. I call their support line and a very rude individual just says that the last update is of 1 month ago and that he does not know anything else. At this point, I am going to cancel the contract with this company. I would recommend staying away from them. read more

My system installed on June 6th 2023. And one panel stop working from June 21st. And the installer forgot to install CT devices to monitor the power consumption of my house, i only can see the solar production on the APP. I can't see my home power consumption. And the layout of the panels are different from the contract and design from the permit. I email SunPower and called like 100 times, they just provided me a CASE#: 03391344 and each time telling me they have a team to monitor that issue and it's been a month now, still no one contact me for that dead panel and installation of the CT. And they telling me maybe something is block the sunlight get to that one panel, i took pictures for them shows nothing blocked that one panel and at that time the production is still zero. My system shows from June 28 to July 22 the solar panels generated 1318.9 kwh but SCE only received 964 kwh. I need an explanation for that 360 kwh difference that not go into sce system. Because they didn't install the CT when they installed the panels, I can't even check my net meters on the app. I have to go to sce website to do the calculations by myself. I paid in cash full price, i should get the fully functioning system not the one with one broken panel and forgotten CT monitor device. He confirmed (as I suspected) that there problems with the inital PTO submission (51 days ago) and they had to resubmit --I did get a notification on 3/2/2022, and again on 3/10/2022, so it looks like the PTO "30 business days" clock reset to 3/10/2022 --which means we could be waiting until 4/22/2022 (up to 94 days delay here) --this is just another in a long string of Sunpower blunders. There's also no news on if my new sitemap placard has been made yet --it's been over 2 weeks, and I know they're able to overnight these, so I'm not sure what's going on here --they don't even know if it's been designed yet, let alone ordered and made yet. *update 3/24/2022*: Just got my PTO 30 minutes ago --exactly at the 10 business day mark that PG&E quotes for turnaround time, so we "only" lost 45 days due to mistakes in made by Sunpower on the application (originally submitted on 1/25/2022). Unfortunately, this painful experience is not over yet. I'm STILL waiting on my replacement placard that was supposedly ready to go last Thursday. Also, my app still says that my battery system is not activated yet. I can't wait to be done interacting with Sunpower. *update 3/25/2022*: A very rude Sunpower tech just stopped by with my updated placard --and of course, it's still incorrect in the same way it's been incorrect 5 times already. This time though, they managed to add back items from my previous install that were removed as part of this install. The Sunpower tech was definitely frustrated and acted like I was being a bad customer because I wanted it corrected again. I admit, I wasn't kind to him either, but the amount of money I've spent and time I've waited for one Sunpower delay after another, Im' not going to simply "live with" a mistake made by them (a mistake, which I've pointed out several times since November 2021). I've provided pictures with super-imposed illustrations for Sunpower multiple times to make it absolutely clear what changes need to happen, and they've continued to make the same mistake 5-6 times now. This placard is meant to be a reference for emergencies, so it needs to be accurate. I'm incredulous at the poor communication between Sunpower teams internally. How do you run a business like this? *update 3/26/2022*: Spent 30 minutes last night putting together a vector drawing of my sitemap placard and sent it off to Sunpower to see if they'll use my version to finally get a correct placard made. In the meantime, I've also sent it off myself to get it made online for $30+tax+shipping (~$40). We'll have ourselves a little race with Sunpower to see who can get it done first. They've had a 4 month head start, so I think I've got this in the bag. *update 3/29/2022*: Sunpower has sent me a bill --however, they still owe me a site-map placard, so this project isn't technically complete yet. I'm pretty sure I called this move several updates ago, and was assured by Sunpower that they wouldn't bill me until the project's complete. *update 3/31/2022*: I just got a site-map placard that I designed and ordered myself for $40 online. Looks like I beat Sunpower to it --they had 4 months and 6 attempts to do what I got done in 6 days. I did get a couple of emails and a phone call from Sunpower yesterday. The first email was to "congratulate me" on my system being fully activated (I got PTO 7 days ago and my app showed my system activated within 24 hours of that, so this email is a week late). The second email was a draft of my corrected placard for me to approve (if they had just sent a draft on the first correction back in November 2021, they wouldn't have wasted so much time on this). Next I got a follow-up phone call from my project coordinator. This is the FIRST TIME my project coordinator has spoken to me on the phone. In 251 days of this project from start to finish, this is the first time I'm hearing from a project coordinator --if that's any indication of the level of customer service to expect from Sunpower. The PC confirmed they considered the project completed due to PTO --however, I do have some outstanding items (old data and new data from my previous, existing system and the new system need to be merged, and they're supposedly still sending someone out with a replacement placard). 252 days to project "completion" (incomplete), or 162 days past the 90 day commitment written in the contract. The nightmare is finally over (I hope)... I'll post a final summary of key takeaways/what-to-expect in a separate update. read more

DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY! We purchased solar from Sun Power in 2019. We decided to make the significant investment in solar (which totaled $27,216) to cut back on the cost of our ever rising utilities over time. All was well until the fuse on the solar electrical panel box went out rendering the solar panels and monitoring system inoperable. We eventually noticed the monitoring system was not functioning on the app, but by that time we were hit with a $3080 PG&E true-up bill. When we contacted Sun Power, they informed us that according to our contract, they "don't guarantee production". When we kindly explained that there wasn't production because their equipment failed, they sent us to the manufacturer of the equipment. The manufacturer was angry we called, asked who gave them their contact information, and then the "customer service" rep started mocking my husband by repeating everything he was saying. We went back to Sun Power and have since received emails informing us the matter is closed because they "don't guarantee production". I requested that Sun Power take on partial responsibility for their equipment failure by reimbursing a portion of our PG&E bill, but we've been repeatedly told they "don't guarantee production." Sun Power made nearly $60,000 off of us. Not only did we purchase solar from them, we recommended our neighbor who also installed solar from Sun Power. This is not a way to do business. This is not the way to treat customers. We could have continued to promote your company, but because of the way we've been treated and disregarded, I have started to inform people (buyer beware) looking for solar recommendations on social media that Sun Power "does not guarantee production". Wrote 2 tickets, got ignored, wrote a review here and got some notice. I was complaining that their app shows a huge spike in production in one of the months ( since I lease , and they "guarantee" a specific yearly production it is critical to have good monitoring ) they send a few emails asking about how many panels I had - then after more than a month said "You system is fine - we will be closing the ticket" no explanation as to why the reporting was bad, why it happened, nothing. The Poor Service Saga continues. I talked to a representative for an hour and they said they got approval to have someone inspect the roof leak as a first step to being fixed and I'd hear from someone to schedule the time in the next 2 weeks. The very next day, I am told that they can't have someone come out to fix the roof leak. Then they say they will reach out to the technician who took pictures because they can't locate them in my file. Then I get an email (not a call back as promised) saying they can't fix the roof leak. I call to ask to speak to a supervisor, wait on hold for 15 minutes and am told a supervisor will call me back. More than 24 hours later, I get a call from the supervisor who says he does not have the authority to do anything about the roof leak. I told him I was told to contact the executive support group in response to my last review but the supervisor says he isn't able to give me a number to contact them. He said he didn't even have authority to tell me his manager's name. What authority do you have as a supervisor in this company? I just want someone who actually has authority to handle the issue to take accountability for the mistakes their company has made and fix it! I am now waiting for a manager to call me back. How can a company cause damage to my property and then just say that they've decided not to fix it? Run to a different solar company as fast as you can. One that will correctly install and maintain their panels. It will save you so many headaches and money in the long run! read more

Unequivocally THE WORST customer service I've experienced in recent history. They have yet to reply to a single email. Often phone wait times are over two hour. There is no follow through to repair requests and the onus is on the customer to identify problems and contact THEM if there is an issue (even though all data is supposed to be actively monitored by their center. Our system has not communicated with their recording system for months and with multiple calls we're yet to have anyone come out and so much as look at the problem with the system. read more

We had the solar system installed in June and the technician came back to install the monitor device in August. I realized the SUNPOWER app doesn't display the power generation of each individual panel. I contacted installation coordinator to raise the issue. He confirmed the option was activated and forwarded the case to the customer support. I have not heard from the customer support after 3 weeks. I emailed the technical support 3 times and have not heard from them. I am really disappointed the customer support of SUNPOWER. As far as the solar system, it functions as expected. Update 09/28/2022: Thanks to Alexa for escalating this issue to the Executive Support Specialist. I got a phone call from the technical support and the problem solved in 10 minutes. read more

I've worked in the solar industry for 5 years in both US Residential and Off-grid in the Developing World, and SunPower are hands down the best panels on the market. There are of couple of elements to SunPower's product - copper back-wired cells and factor-integrated custom microinverters - which allow their panels to produce more power for a longer period of time. Only LG's new Neon R panel and Solaria's PowerXT have adopted these features which solved the two biggest failure points on conventional aluminum front-wired panels. Plus, SunPower's factory warranty covering service/labor/shipping costs on the whole system and nationwide network of local dealerships means better service for our customers should the installer ever go out of business. read more

March 2021 - Original review If you ever need anything from them, please expect it will take at least 5 - 10 phone calls, at least 6 to 8 weeks to resolve, promises of calls back that never take place and repeated lies. Last February (2020) our solar went down due to a part they decommissioned and did not inform us of. In July our electricity bill was $500 so we contacted the company to find out what was wrong. It took until October for them to send someone out for a 15 minute work-order to fix the problem. 4 months of weekly phone calls and promises someone would be out soon. 4 months of 'we'll call you'. 4 months of $400-500 electricity bills for a part they took off line without informing us. 4 months. They have a performance guarantee that states if your solar doesn't perform as expected, they'll pay you back. Our solar was down for 8 months because of their actions and we are getting just slightly more than $1,000 back. The solar itself costs more than $200 a month and that doesn't even account for the multiple months of $500 electricity bills. The guarantee is a joke to say the least but a $1,000 is a $1,000 so it would be nice to receive. The report that told me the pittance they would be returning to us came out in November of 2020. I was told on one of my numerous prior conversations that the check would be cut in 4 - 6 weeks. I called in February of 2021. They don't know what I'm talking about and someone will call me back in a couple days. I called again today. The check will be cut in 4 - 6 weeks, just be patient. If nothing ever goes wrong and you never have to deal with this company, I'm sure it's wonderful but it's been 13 months for one issue. Isn't that long enough? July 22nd, 2021 - Update Finally received the check! In all truthfulness it was received in the latter part of June. 17 months for one issue. One issue. That they caused. That it took 4 months of calls to get fixed and another 9 months to be reimbursed for. 17 months. Do not do business with this company. I cannot stress this enough. read more

When we encountered an issue with our HOA Board, they worked diligently to resolve it. They did a great job "holding our hand" through the steps of dealing with the city for a permit and GWP. This business does not maintain or help fix their equipment. When you call you never get the same person twice. They do not return calls or emails. I was told other customers having the same issues I am currently having have been waiting over a year to get the problem fixed so I likely won't have my problem fixed anytime soon. I am currently paying the lease payments on the equipment AND a huge SCE bill because the equipment is not properly functioning. Not happy about the business at all, but the technician John Villafana was awesome. During the configuration of our monitoring system my son was running with a bubble machine causing all kinds of noise. John was super friendly and kept his poise and even interacted jokingly with my son. Despite his good service he was extremely knowledgeable about solar technology as well as providing multiple examples of how to maintain high energy efficiency with the panels. I've been a sun power customer for only 2 months and I will say their customer support is sub par. They will put your work order in and most issues require a technician to come out to your home to resolve the issue. However just to schedule it, the Agent on the phone can't schedule that appointment. It could take a week to schedule just an appointment that could also be for another week or two out. There has got to be a better way to conduct service then to have your customers continually wait for help. My neighbor is also a brand new customer with a brand new system as well and their solar hasn't been working for the entire time they've had it. I'm not sure if the other solar companies out there have their customers waiting like sun power. read more

OK so as I said...the first appointment was scheduled for Sept. 5 @ 1:00. NO one called, no one showed up. So then they decided to "prioritize" me, and so, that meant rescheduled for ten days later...so much for expediting. Anyway they showed up on the 15, and he was actually here earlier than stated. That was nice. The guy was very nice, and did the whole survey in about 45 minutes. SO, that's a positive. Now, they say the next step should be by end of week. I'll let you know.. read more

Rarely do I waste bandwidth on a company publicly, but it is time for an exception. If you are considering using SunPower for a solar system at your house, beware - you can expect NO customer service, warranty or not. I am happy to talk to anyone about the poor experience I have had with this company, to save people the trouble and waste. In 2007, Regrid Power of Campbell, CA installed a 2.8KW array, using Sunpower panels and inverter. In 2017, I called Regrid because I found the ground fault light was on on my inverter. They stated "We no longer work on Sunpower Equipment." No reason given, I was just told to call Sunpower. Queue the runaround. Sunpower kept giving me names of dealers to call and arrange my own repairs. After 2 years of trying to get someone to come out, I gave up. Last year, after getting a $2000 trueup bill, I decided to try once more with Sunpower. They are stating that all repairs will have to be at my cost, since their equipment is out of warranty. Just to get to this point has taken 2 months with them. After 6 years, this is the answer I get from sunpower support: "Unfortunately we cannot cater the inverter that you have, please go directly to SMA America for the order. SMA-America Toll Free Service Line at +1-877-697-6283: (Mon-Fri from 6 am to 5 pm, Pacific Time, UTC-8)." In short, I would not choose to use Sunpower again, ever. Their lack of customer service has nearly cost me more than the rebates on the original purchase, and if I wanted to source and install my own equipment, I would have become an electrician. read more

Can't say enough good things about the system installed on my new home. New build with 4kW equinox series. Really good looking panels, simple, intuitive app and webpage. A few hiccups in getting the initial PTO, but not worth taking off a star. Because the new home is so energy efficient, offseting over 100% electricity for the first month. Yes, no AC this last month, but to get 120% generation with a smaller system is outstanding. Even on cloudy days get decent power. Meleah Sellers was my onsite final installer and she was great! Efficient to a fault. Yes, I know, a bit glowing. But what can I say...job well done! read more

I was told that the manufacturer of my current inverter is experiencing delays so they are looking for alternatives but I did not receive any communication since then. I moved into a house that had solar and everything is fine until it wasnt. Once the inverter had a fatal error I called in 8/18/23 following their process and when I heard nothing for 5 days I called back on 8/26 and they claimed the claim was processed 8/23, FIVE days after I reported it!!! (strike#1) That representative didnt sound confident so I called back 2 days later to follow up and they said they would "prioritize" my issue. 9/5 I talked to "Joe" and he told me that "Kenna" was handling my case and would contact me before Friday that week, that time came and went. Called yesterday and talked with "Ella" and was told I would be called later at 1pm with an update, that time came and went , no voicemail or email recieved the whole day(strike#2). She told me they had the email address wrong after the previous representative said the same thing, I guess she forgot to hit save. Fast forward to today and after today's call with "Clarice" I demanded the case manager "Kenna" email me so I can check up with her directly instead of calling in. The number 1 thing I tell people about solar is who will burden the warranty. If that company has good rating on the back end when the system goes down, you found yourself the best company to give your money to. read more

We bought a home that had a Sunpower solar system installed about a year prior. First two months in the house we had a roof leak. We had a roofing contractor assess the roof and they stated that the leak pointed to the solar installation. We called up Sunpower and after 7 phone calls and 2 missed appointments by their technician to get someone to finally take a look. We were told we'd get their assessment results within a week, but even after our claim was escalated and we called/emailed our escalation contact a few more times, it took 4 weeks to hear back. By far the worst customer service experience I've ever had. On the bright side, the solar system works well and we love the low monthly electric bills. read more

If you are looking for a company that you will need to chase around and hope they finish your solar system then this is your company otherwise STAY AWAY!! My wife and I had been looking into getting solar for some time now. We even had just had a new roof put on our home just so we could proceed with getting solar. We choose Sun Power because of the long history of being around and good reviews. At first they were very responsive to getting the different teams out, but once the install happened this is when everything started falling apart. The first problem I saw was that the guys were not tied off properly on the roof when I came home to check on things. They had two guys working off the same anchor which is against CAL OSHA Section 1670(b)(10). I'm a Safety Coordinator for a construction company and it was very disappointing to see this. After the install was complete I found multiple anchor penetration for the solar panel framing that missed the rafters of the roof. This is just under the eave of my house so I need to climb into the attic to check how many more they missed. They had also done a very poor job repairing where the anchors were on the roof. I could see shiny metal from the street on my brand new roof. Also when they painted the metal conduit pipe to blend in they didn't use a sacrificial layer or anything to protect the roof. So because they were so lazy they also spray painted the roof at the same time. Next problem happened a couple days later when a small team of guys showed up with no notice to make sure that we would pass inspection. Since we had no prior notice that they would be onsite this required me to leave work and take time to help them. When this crew left, my electrical panel was left open and the wires inside were exposed! I have called multiple times and been following up with emails but with no help. I even reached out to an ex co worker that works with them and he is having problems trying to get someone to help. I have even gotten emails that my project advisor has changed. Emailed him and never once got a response from him. I seriously feel like this company expects to be paid for vandalizing my house and they want to do nothing to fix it! This will not stand and I am done waiting for a response from them on when they might be able to fix these problems. read more
