3.5 stars, edging to 4. I always like to stop at bakeries and try new things when I travel, and this is probably one of the better bakeries you're going to find on South Padre Island. You can watch the bakers making the pastries and breads fresh through the glass window behind the counter, and everything we had was fresh, artisan, handmade, and tasty. Day-old banana bread -- very good, even a day old. Chocolate croissant -- not a ton of chocolate, more of your traditional size with just a little inside. Strawberry cream Danish -- very tasty and fresh. Cream puff -- super moist, with perfectly tender dough. Really good bite. Cinnamon roll -- very large, so don't underestimate the size. One note: the cream/icing on top was just too much -- too sweet and too heavy-handed. It would've been better served on the side to dip into, because the parts where we took off the cream off were really good. (We microwaved it for a minute once we got home.) Coffees -- a couple of solid coffees, nothing too crazy. One thing to flag: for five or six pastries and a couple of coffees, it ran us around $50. Pro tip: This isn't somewhere I'd take the kids. It's more of a spot for someone who wants a really good baked good and a coffee -- and be ready for the prices to add up faster than you'd think. Would recommend, and would return. read more

Pastries were en pointe! Delicious and beautiful baked goods and bread! We ordered cheese and raspberry danishes, an Italian croissant, and a mini sourdough boule with espresso drinks. Experienced sweet service with attention to detail. Pricey but at least you get very good quality. Not much of a hang out space, but when you come to a beach area, you probably are taking your treats to go anyway. read more

This place is a MUST TRY when you come. You will regret it if you don't come to this amazing place. Their coffee and pastries are the perfect compliment to your walk on the beach, anytime of day! Let me highlight a few awesome things about this place: -Great parking, in front of the store and off to the side -Service is amazing! Friendly staff, you might even see their dog! He is so cute! They are hardworking and really care for the South Padre Island community. -Offer both fresh pastries and Day Old pastries for half off! Can't beat that price. What I tried: Iced Latte with Brown Sugar Syrup (goes this was so good, I had to get it twice!) -Mini Pecan Pies - great taste, not too sweet, good texture on the crust and the filling -Almond Crossiant - probably one of my favorites! Flaky dough, tasty filling! -Pistachio Crossiant - not my favorite nut, but they make a great one here! -Muffin - everything that I expected a muffin to have, great bread-y texture! Alright folks - I am 100% a coffee snob ever since managing a coffee trailer in Austin and this place did not disappoint. I did get a latte so don't come for me if you get a black coffee- can't speak to that. However, the 12oz honey oat latte I just received is really great! The espresso is nicely balanced and it's not too sweet, which is a win for me! They also do house made syrups which really do change the coffee game!! AND the sweet barista offered me a cutie shortbread star cookie on top of my drink. How cute!! We also got a berries and cream cruffin- smells heavenly & tastes even better! All in all, great service from the sweet cashier to the barista! Super cool open kitchen concept so you can see the bakers making dreams come true through their grand bakery window! I will definitely be coming back next time we're down here! P.S. to the people who are bothered by the smell of cleaner in this place - it's worth buying a pastry & coffee anyways! This place is such a gem on the island for a delicious cup of coffee/matcha (with plenty of non-caffeine options) and a large variety of fresh baked goods! The inside was really clean and had a bright but cozy atmosphere. I loved all the artwork they had from local artists. There's a lot more seating than I expected. The kitchen area is surrounded by a window so I think that adds onto how spacious it feels! I think the open concept is really cool to see what happens in the background. The service was really friendly and it didn't take long for the items to come out. The matcha (which I got with regular milk and some honey) was really high quality and I loved all that froth. The danish I got was pretty good too! Super flaky so I made a mess on the table but worth it. I'll definitely have to come back! read more

Came here with alacrity Sunday morning! The outside was bright and welcoming with their sunrise yellow paint. The inside was modern, chic and spacious. I loved the open kitchen watching the bakers hand make all the pastries. The pastries were light, flacky and oh so good! The coffee had a sweety nutty taste. Three stars because they were really nice and some of the things we got were really good. The jalapeño scone was super good. But it was SO expensive. I was not expecting to spend $70 at a bakery. Disappointed! I reached out to this bakery to make a custom cake for my uncles 60th Birthday a week before it was needed. They confirmed this was enough time and stated we're going to get a quote together and call me back in one hour. I confirmed they had the correct contact information, but unfortunately I did not receive a callback that day (Saturday) or the next. I forgot to call Sunday before they closed as they are two hours ahead of my time zone and they are closed Monday so I followed up on Tues. I received a quote said it will be ready noon Saturday, but they would confirm with the baker and call me back the next morning. I didn't not receive a call. I was obviously started to get worried so I called every day and different time. No answer and it started to go straight to voice mail. Then my partner saw a post on instagram saying they would be closed all weekend. This bakery is unreliable and unprofessional. All i needed was a simple call back to say you cannot fulfill the order so I can make other plans. Don't just ghost people. It's rude and now I have to give you a bad review. read more

A selection of baked goods - some french method - while good for taste; price was high. $37.00 for 1 croissant (with salami, cheese - standard size) and 2 larger cinnamon rolls (12.00 each for rolls, 9.00 for croissant) plus tax. No pricing is listed and felt like they charge a pretty penny - the most we've ever paid for bakery items. Thankfully, we decided to split the rolls vs. ordering 6 items which would have been over 60.00. They show 1 or 2 items each in display case so not open bakery with multiples of each or abundant selection. This pricing was too high in our opinion. read more

Delicious baked goods--absolutely tasty croissant and delicious iced coffee .... It was on the pricey side and prices were not readily showing on the baked goods (so that is the only reason for a 4 star versus 5 as it truly had delicious baked goods). Came in at 11 when they close at 2:30 & was told they were not able to serve anything with espresso. How is a bakery/cafe not going to give anything with espresso? You know that would be fine, but there was a lady that came in a couple of minutes after us and ordered a vanilla latte with espresso and was able to get it with no problem. Location is easy to find but service is sub par at best. Pastries are fantastic but the service takes away from the experience. I received my food before my food which is a red flag. Specialty coffees took longer than expected. The barista (female) was very rude and argued that when you dine here you get the drink in a glass. At the counter they didn't mention that at all. She then stated next time when you come in request it in a To-go container. I was unaware this was my responsibility but uh okay. You should never put that on your customers to under your business expectations. Also if the drinks were going to take so long you probably should put them in a to-go cup. read more

We found this newly opened business when we visited SPI in February 2024. We loved this place so much that we returned to it every morning during our July 2024 stay. Maria and Luis are the owners and they are totally involved in every aspect of the business. Everything in the bakery is made from scratch including the all natural flavored coffee syrups. The pastries are truly amazing and the customers are able to view Luis and his staff making them in the glass enclosed kitchen behind the counter. There are many unique varieties of homemade candies, pastries and coffee drinks - all of which are incredible. The bakery itself is immaculately clean and there are high top tables for those who choose to eat inside. Sunrise Bakery is a "must do" when visiting SPI and the surrounding area. Pastries were good, not necessarily great. What was shocking was the pricing. The danish was $9 plus tax. A blueberry scone with not much taste was $6.50. Both were average sizes. So for two pastries it was over $17. This is in South Padre where most restaurants are very reasonable. I have been to some amazing places and resorts. Expensive ones. Never paid that much for a pastry in any of those places. Crazy. Hate to see them fail but I can't imagine many repeat customers, at least enough to keep it going. read more

This is a nice (very clean) bakery on the island with bakers who have some real skills. Yes, the prices are a bit high but this is SPI and based on what I got, the prices are fair. The croissants are the big winner and expertly crafted. We tried about 5 other items and only the chocolate chip cookie was a bit off as it didn't have much flavor and very few chips. The cinnamon rolls are huge and while not super sugary or cinnamon, they work well with coffee or other drinks. The staff seemed a bit distracted but were friendly.
