Our office moved to a new location back in June, so I've been on the hunt for new lunch spots in the area. I tend to eat out quite a bit, so one day I jumped on Google and searched for diners near me. Sunrise Café popped up with tons of great reviews, and many people mentioned how attentive the owner is and how great the food is. After finally stopping in, I can say those reviews were absolutely right. The food here is fantastic. I ordered the Big Sunrise, which comes with three eggs (I got mine over medium), a big slice of ham, two pieces of bacon, and two sausage patties. For my sides I went with white toast and grits. I have to say, grits are definitely an acquired taste, but lately I've been loving them and these were really good. The waitress was also spot on--super attentive and friendly. Overall the service was excellent and the food was even better. My only small "complaint," and it's really no fault of theirs, is that inside the restaurant my cell phone had almost no signal. It was basically a dead zone, so I had to actually sit there and live in the moment instead of scrolling the internet on my phone. Kind of funny because the second I walked outside to my car, I had a full signal again. Not sure what's going on there, but honestly it just gave me more time to enjoy the food. This is a small little diner, with good breakfasts, and friendly staff. It is often crowded, but that's a sign that customers live coming back. Also, may not have enough space for a really large multi-family meal. But if you want a diner that offers excellent quality classic diner fare, without any pretentiousness this is it. One of my top go to spots for breakfast! They have lunch too. Located in a semi busy strip mall on Orchard Lake just north of 13 Mile. Parking is usually plentiful. There is patio seating outside with booths, tables and a bar inside. The space is not that big so there is sometimes a wait but it's well worth it. Service is friendly and consistent. You can always find the owner at the front counter greeting and seating guests and the servers and bus staff scurrying about. And the best part is the food! Hot, fast and fresh and always tasty. My faves are the country fried steak with gravy, breakfast sandwiches, and waffles reminiscent of the Waffle House. Go here. You will like it. read more

We arrived at the Sunrise cafe after 8 AM and it's already busy inside, but not full. Looks a neighborhood joint of locals. The grilled cinnamon roll sounded yummy, but there weren't any pics to tempt me and it didn't seem like a fan favorite order item, since no one in the diner had ordered it. Staying a bit healthier, since I am not particularly hungry this morning. There about 5 booths, 4 counter seats and 8 two tops. It's tight ship in here. Dawn is waiting on us this morning. She's attentive and pleasant. Ordered a house coffee, the signature banana nut oatmeal, build your own omelette: chicken, mushrooms and jalapeño; which comes with two sides: hashbrowns with added green pepper and onion and cottage cheese and a side of turkey sausage. $29.42 The oatmeal comes out in a small Greek salad bowl. It's not too bad. Added brown sugar and some more cinnamon, since it's a bit bland. The turkey sausage was so bone dry, way overcooked, leathery and bland too. Definitely wasn't worth the added cost on the side. It might be okay inside the turkey scramble hidden with other items. The omelet was good, the eggs are fluffy for sure. The hash browns are pretty good, better with some ketchup and red hot sauce. read more

The waitress was so rude when we ordered and when we checked out, she said I'm charging you a $15 surcharge because out bill was $80. I asked for a manager and the manager said if I don't like eating there then don't come. Very rude people and we aren't going there again read more

Sunrise Cafe was busy on a Sunday morning. We waited for about 10 minutes for a table, and it was worth it. The food was delicious, the service was top notch, and the price was more than reasonable. My first time in this place although I've seen it over the years. Customer service and food was great. I was welcomed in immediately and the host gave me the option of being immediately seated outside but warned bees had been sighted so I waited for a table inside. I am an omelette girl and was appreciative of the various options they have plus you can create your own. My last review of the Sunrise Cafe was a while ago and the menu pictures on the site were outdated. The Omelettes here are still amazing -- tender, fluffy and choices for fillings are extensive. My go to is the Salami omelette with crispy hashed browns. Service is always great as is the coffee. The flavored cream is a nice touch. Sunrise has great waffles and French toast, but I come for the Omelettes and oatmeal. The place is small and only 5 tables can accommodate more than 2 people. Long time since we were here...not sure why. They are now open for dine in inside or outside. When we walked in at around 1:50 p.m., it wasn't too busy and a young lady asked us to take a seat anywhere; we chose a table instead of a booth. She quickly brought us menus and got our drink orders. Even though we were here after noon, we both opted for Omelettes: Veggie Egg White with Hash Browns and Whole Wheat Toast for my wife and a Gyro Omelet with Hash Browns and Whole Wheat Toast for me. We also added a bowl of Homemade Chicken Noodle Soup to split! The Soup came out quickly and we got started. It does have that homemade quality and plenty of noodles, carrots, and bits of Chicken in a flavorful Chicken Broth. But, to us, the real stars were the fluffy Omelettes! How fluffy, you ask? When you see it you're not sure you can eat it all. But it shrinks as you eat it and my wife actually finished the whole thing, minus the bites we traded. Mine was also fluffy but not as much as the Egg-White-only Omelet! The Hash Browns were just the way we like them: very crunchy on the top side and soft cooked underneath! Our server asked if we needed any salt, pepper, ketchup, or anything else as they are required to bring them by request, retrieve them as well as menus after each guest, and sanitize them for next usage. This was a pleasant experience for us and our server was very helpful and friendly throughout. Another nice touch was being thanked for coming in to dine there today. This is one of our favorite restaurants. It's almost always packed for a good reason. The food is excellent. The service is fabulous. They always make sure that you're getting plenty of coffee refills. I ordered the "summer salad." It came with plenty of fresh lettuce, strawberries, blueberries, crushed walnuts, and grilled breast of chicken with a side of poppyseed dressing. It was so voluminous that I got two full meals out of it. read more

Cute little diner style restaurant. Came here for breakfast and even at 9am they were packed. We were sat right away but it was a little chaotic. So be ready for closeness and loud environment. (We still enjoyed our time there) Everyone was super nice and welcoming. I have a gluten allergy and when I told the waitress, she made sure to ask if it was a preference or an allergy. I got the gf pancakes ( which I wasn't a huge fan of. They just didn't taste good to me but I just got plain. Maybe adding chocolate chips may have helped. But the potatoes and meat I got on the side were great. My friend who is not gf got the French toast and loved it. Really good prices for the portion sizes. I went this morning for the first time to pick up a carryout order for my daughter in law, who'd place the order for herself and my son, who'd had a major surgery the previous day. I arrived at the very crowded restaurant and an elderly, hard of hearing man shouted if I needed to order a carry out, or was it a pickup. I told him it was a pickup and gave him my daughter in laws name. He asked if it was called in, or orderd on line. I assumed it was called in and again gave her name. He said he takes the call ins and had not taken one from anyone with that name. I told him then, it must be a carryout and again gave him her name. He went and looked and said he had nothing for that name. He asked what was ordered, which I didn't know, but told him it was to be ready in 20 minutes. The whole time he is taking names of walk ins and trying to get people seated. He goes again to the back and comes out with what appeared to be an order receipt. He shows it to me, and it had the first and last initials of my daughter in laws name, along with the order details. When I saw one of the items was a BLT I knew that was the order because that's a favorite item for her. I told him that was the order I was to pick up. He took the paper, crumbled it up in a ball and threw it away saying he would not give me the order based on what I said, and I should call my daughter in law for her to confirm. When I left the house my daughter in laws phone was downstairs on the kitchen counter, so as soon as I dialed her and she didn't pickup I knew she didn't have her phone with her. I dialed my son, who I knew was bedridden from the surgery, and whose phone I knew had been turned off overnight so he could rest. I kept trying repeatedly to get them for about 10 minutes. I knew the order had been paid for so the only thing I could do, because he refused to give it to me, was to drive the 20 minutes back to the house to get an order number. By then I knew whatever had been ordered was cold and I was infuriated that despite showing me an invoice that had the initials for the name I'd given him, and verifying the BLT was on the order, he wanted more proof it was mine. My daughter in law sent me a screenshot of the order and I drove back to the restaurant. When I walked back in and approached the man who refused to give me the order, he had it in his hand and gave it to me. I told him I gave you the name on the order, I verified the BLT was hers and you still refused to give it to me. He did not ask to see the proof he said he had to have that I had to drive back home to get because as I knew, they would not have had access to their phones. He then shoute at me that the next time know whether it's online or called in. I shouted back there would NOT be a NEXT TIME. His actions were unnecessary and arbitrary and gave the impression I was claiming something that was not mine. I was embarrassed and angered by his needless posturing which reflected badly on this establishment. read more

Small diner located in a strip mall on Orchard Lake Rd. There is some outdoor seating as well. Huge selection of omelettes on the menu and you have the option to "build your own". I ordered the Detroiter and added artichokes and asparagus...veggie overload! Light and fluffy (I think they might add a little pancake mix), every bite was packed with veggies and cheese. The thick-cut bacon was extra crispy and the "well-done" hashbrowns were just the way I like them...crispy on the outside, but not burnt. In other words, perfect! I was sitting at the bar, soni go to see the chefs work....and most of the plates that came out. The french toast smells and looks AMAZING! First time trying a fluffy egg white omelette, I ordered the sunrise omelette. The omelette looks huge and overwhelming to eat, but it's airy and fluffed up and once you start eating it, it's not too overwhelming. I felt the omelette needed a little help from some salt, pepper and redhot. I'd probably order an extra topping or two next time I visit this establishment. The pancake was good, had a bit of a different taste to it, almost like it was made with corn, I can't figure it out but I enjoyed it. Service was Great, they were quick to bring me water and take my order, and my coffee cup never went below half full before they were refilling it. Inside is small-ish and more intimate feeling. This is one of my favorite breakfast spots in the area. I recently took my family here for Mother's Day brunch. Myself, my husband, my mom, and my 4 year old son. The place was busy so we waited a little longer than usual. Our waitress was amazing. She brought my son a complimentary oatmeal bowl with all kinds of fun toppings and said "I know how kids are!" My family has been regulars at sunrise Café for many years, and will continue to be for years to come. Their food is consistently delicious, and always leaves you satisfied. Customer service is always phenomenal and you really feel like part of their family when you're there. It's also super affordable, and portions are hefty, so you definitely get a bang for your buck. I always recommend this place to my friends, and family. Even when I carry out from sunrise, the food is hot and delicious and they never forget to provide you with utensils, syrup, butter, all the fixings you need to have a great breakfast. I've been wanting to try Sunrise Cafe for ages and finally got take away this past weekend. It's all about the food here. Small little dinky place with 4-5 outdoor tables. The place was packed this Saturday around noon. Sits next to the ACE hardware store. I ordered online which was fairly straightforward. The scrambled eggs were fluffy and still liquid in the centre. Cheese was drizzled on top as I asked. Very creamy and delicious. Perfect. Hash browns were enough for two and crispy brown on the outside and soft in the inside. Sausages were standard fare every other breakfast place uses but adequate. So far so good but it gets better. I ordered set of 3 pancakes which were unbelievable! About 7-8" across. Looks like wheat flour was used but I could be wrong. Man they were light and fluffy and had a nice flavour. Syrup was standard issue but edible. Next time (and there will be a next time) I'll ask for maple syrup with an up charge. Entire order was just under $20 including tax, tip. Wonderful place. The owner was on premises and very friendly. This has quickly become one of our favorite breakfast spots. The food is great, served quickly, and with reasonable pricing. The menu is extensive, making our decisions difficult but we have come to love the omelettes, the ham and cheese egg scramble, and the big sunrise. The food is cooked on a flattop within sight where we've really enjoyed the crisp hash browns and fluffy omelettes. We love watching our food be cooked in the intimate dining room. It's definitely meant for smaller parties as the restaurant isn't huge. You can expect to wait if you go during lunch and weekend rushes but the service is prompt, minimizing the wait time. We are wanting to go back just writing this review. It's a must for a quick, homestyle breakfast at an affordable price point. read more
