We were on our way to a different breakfast place when we spotted Sunrise Cafe & wanted to try it instead. We were met with friendly faces & received excellent service. Our waiter, Giovanni, was attentive, friendly & very professional. The owner came by & told us she's been here for 3 years. I loved the interior of the cafe. It has cute French paintings throughout & it's nice & bright in here. There's some windows looking out to Lighthouse Avenue & our server put us in the best spot. Now the food! My avocado toast was the BEST AVOCADO TOAST I've ever had!!! I chose to add tomato to it & mixed with the oils, seasoning & the amazingly fluffy bread creates a decadent flavor. I truly had to savor it because I know I could eat it all way too fast. My husband loved their steak & he said the sourdough toast was the best he's had. It's fluffy & full of flavor. Our baby enjoyed her waffles & sausage. They truly give a ton of food for the price on a kids menu!! Honestly, I'm so thankful we decided to come here instead of the other place. I listened to other reviewers and tried the avocado toast with buffalo mozzarella and I also got a side of bacon for the table. My husband got the Spanish omelette with toast and crispy hashbrowns. Service was good. Food was okay. It is extremely noisy. I understand that restaurants can be noisy but the problem here is that where much of staff works is open to the dining room. Came to Sunrise Cafe on a Sunday at 9:20am. It was about a third filled at the time and so I got seated right away. By 9:45am, the seating inside was full. There was 4+ tables outside. My husband and I got seated at a 2 seater table by the big window in the front of the restaurant, which I thought was the best seat in the house. The inside of the restaurant is clean, cozy, and decorated with light wood tables and chairs with green vinyl seats. There was soft instrumental music playing in the background too. I ordered the chicken fried steak, my husband's favorite breakfast dish, from the Specialty menu at $23.99 and two coffees at $3.99 each. My husband and I split the order. The chicken fried steak was a good size steak and was breaded with a crispy panko crust, which I haven't had cooked that way before. The gravy was tasty and not too salty like some can be. The dish came with homefries made of freshly pan fried red potatoe chunks, two eggs, and sourdough toast. Service was good and we enjoyed our meal there, and I will recommended it to our friends. read more

It was fine. I maybe ordered not their best thing but to be fair it was on their "special menu". I ordered the fried steak with over medium eggs and hash browns. It was pretty greasy, chewy edges either fat or skin, and the eggs were over easy. I may be nitpicking but i wouldn't have minded if it was like $15 but it was $24. I also got a latte but with this place i think you are better off with plain coffee. and then i got a side of sausage links for my dog. All in all the bill came out to $40 w/o tip. So, not my favorite spot, i'd maybe give it another chance with a different order. The positive is that the servers are all very nice and friendly. This is a small business in Monterey with some pretty tasty food! It's a cozy place on the corner of the street with some seating outdoors but mostly indoors. Loved coming to Sunrise Cafe for breakfast on our way to the Monterey Aquarium. There were so many options to choose from and only two stomachs! We decided on the country omelette and the banana pecan pancakes. Both options were so so delicious, my gosh! The country omelette was bursting with mushrooms and sausages, and topped with gravy. Banana pecan pancakes were sooo fluffy and just a delight to eat! It was nice to get a refill on the corfee too. The only qualm that we had was one of two sourdough slices was not properly toasted. Sunrise cafe is a small family owned and run business that offers excellent service and quality food. There is parking on lighthouse or the nearby side streets. On a Thurs around 11:00-11:30 for lunch they had decent business but were not crowded. Their restaurant is in a converted house so seating is limited. The restroom is on the right at the back as you enter. Their regular breakfast and lunch menu has many great items on it and they have changing rotating specials. We came in especially for their monte cristo sandwich that we saw on the past specials. Even though the specials changed we asked if they would make us the monte cristo sandwich and they made it special for us. It was not super fried like other places and was something like a grilled cheese with meat and super tasty bread. Both the side salad that came with it and the Cobb salad we got separately were very fresh and tasty. Overall, this place and the quality of their food and service was so good that we will definitely be back and recommend you give them a try. read more

Got a haircut and breakfast next door to each other. Very convenient. The Country Fried Steak (chicken fried steak) was cooked perfectly. I saw the pic from the guy who said it was overdone. Indeed, that was dark. Mine was light golden brown. Perfect. The eggs, potatoes, and English muffin were great, too. My only knock was that the potatoes were just potatoes. No onions or bell peppers like home fries usually have. Will definitely try the hash browns next time. But the service was great and it's a corner business so you have a view of the water and Lighthouse. read more

Came to Monterey for a last minute vacation. This cafe was around the corner from our hotel and wow was it amazing. I got the two eggs breakfast with sausages and the sausages were the best I've ever had! Eggs and hash browns were perfection. My boyfriend ordered the Huevos Rancheros and devoured the whole thing.
