Cinnamon Brioche French toast and side of chicken sausage
    Lisa C.

Based on Yelp reviews, just had to try this place on a recent trip to the area. A friend and I went for breakfast about mid-morning on a Sunday. Though there appeared to be a line outside, our party of two got in fairly quickly. Space is limited in this quaint restaurant, which appears to have been converted from a small cottage. Since space was pretty filled with tables, some might find the environment a little loud (so just be prepared for that). My friend was disappointed that they had run out of smoked salmon, as she had her heart set on the salmon eggs Benedict. Our waiter recommended the Huevos Rancheros, from the daily specials list---which she did ordered and added their chicken sausage to. Our waiter was very attentive and helpful. I had to try their French toast (made with a brioche bread), which is a breakfast fave of mine. Our drink orders (which included mimosas) came promptly, with food also coming timely. They did offer a half order of French toast, which is what I ordered. It was very delicious and perfectly cooked....my only complaint was that it came lukewarm. The side of chicken sausage was just okay. My friend thought the Huevos Rancheros was very good; it was generously portioned and she liked it enough to take home her leftovers. All in all, this place is definitely worth checking out. Maybe try to go earlier than 10 for breakfast, to ensure they don't run out of certain items.

If you're a foodie who's visiting Pacific Grove, then this place is for you. I love it when I visit. Last few times I stick with my usual crave- smoked salmon over potato pancake with lemon and capers with a poached an egg. DELICIOUS.It's super fresh and vibrant. I keep telling myself to taste the other delicious food they have on their menu, but keep getting this. Really friendly staff. Last time I went I noticed a young staff member happily helping tourists fill their weekend with fun things to do. My waiter was great and friendly. They have inside and outside seating. I sat outside enjoying a hot cup of coffee on a sunny, cool, morning. Foodies visiting Pacific Grove, try this place out for breakfast. It's delicious and always on my agenda when I'm in town.

10/10 service was great! Food was incredible! We loved everything we ate. We sat outside on the porch.

Popular and busy restaurant, especially for breakfast. Staff are excellent and do a good job seating and serving in a busy place. I went when they had the breakfast menu and had the chorizo scramble and crab cakes Benedict. Everything was delicious and they are good at flavors here. Note that they charge 3 percent for credit card payments. I would like to go back and try the lunch and dinner menu.

Let me do a 11 year update. Friday noonish, not terrible busy about two thirds full. A quick check in and shown to our table. Through out our time there it seemed we were just another ticket with no interaction by both our waiter and the busboy...more matter of fact. I've had more interaction at most Denny's Not as relaxing as I remembered. Food was good but not rememberable or anything you would brag about. Is it a spot I would send a friend visiting the bay? It's not hard to make this a 50 dollar lunch for two. But is it? Last words...not that charming.

Such a delightful place to eat and such a warm environment! Sat outside due to having our pup with us and the server was kind and attentive in getting us heaters. Half the table got their burger and it was delicious. Calamari steak sandwich and soup are a must! Stop by if you're in the area for some yummy food.

Excellent food, service, and quaint ambiance! I hadn't been here before and my friends found it on Yelp so you know I was on board. We were sat right away and offered drinks, orders taken, and food came out quickly. I had the smoked salmon benedict, which is one of my go to's for breakfast. My friends both had the classic country breakfast. My only, and very minor compaint, is that my food came out a little cold. I was surprised because it did come out seemingly fast. Cold food is one of my pet peeves, but I didn't feel like sending it back. Even as a semi cold meal my food was very good! Even the oven roasted potatoes it came with were bomb. We were tended to consistently between the bussers and servers who all worked together. The service was very fast and friendly. I would definitely return and highly recommend this place for breakfast.

Today's visit was not very pleasant. First there was a lady doing the drinks. I think her name is Sofia. The whole incident happened because I had said no to moving my table since my husband wanted the padding bench. After the hostess made everything ok again. This lady making the drinks (Sofia) decided to gossip about the situation to another server. I'm not sure why she was trying to create hostile environment. I felt uncomfortable. It was not necessary to gossip and make my family feel uncomfortable. After that we got our food and I later learned that my bread had MOLD! I felt sick to my stomach. I will say my server was very remorseful about the situation. Overall the location is an ok spot. The drink lady (Sofia) definitely needs an attitude check!

Had a great lunch today on our trip to Pacific Grove. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. We sat a a cute table for two by the window. I ordered the oven roasted chicken sandwich and my husband ordered the chorizo and eggs. We also got a bowl of fresh fruit with honeyed cream. Everything was delicious. My chicken sandwich was so good. The chorizo and eggs came with potatoes and they were excellent. The fruit bowl was nice and refreshing. For dessert we shared a piece of Olallieberry pie from Gizdich farms. That pie is amazing. If you ever have a chance to go to Gizdich Farms in person, in Watsonville, you should definitely try it. You can buy whole pies to take home. I really recommend trying the Red House Cafe if you're in the area.

We were looking for a brunch spot and Red House Cafe is the place to go! Got here around 11am on Saturday with no wit and sat outside on the patio. What we ordered - country breakfast with sunny side up eggs with bacon & country ham - pancakes This was such a delicious breakfast. I'm normally not a fan of breakfast potatoes but these were nicely seasoned, flavorful and crispy. The pancakes were super fluffy too. We really enjoyed the food!

Thank you Yelp for this gem of a find! Did a weekend getaway to Pacific Grove and stumbled upon this cute restaurant while browsing through Yelp. Staff and Service: - Everyone here was incredibly kind and helpful - Despite it being busy, every table was taken care of in a very timely manner Food and Drinks: - Bloody Mary: 9/10. The only reason for the docked point is because the olives had seeds in them - Lemonade: I would go back just for this lemonade. I think this was the best lemonade I've ever had. It was fresh, it was tart, it was slightly sweet. It was phenomenal. - Chorizo and Eggs: this dish was so tasty as well. From the seasoned potatoes to the flavorful chorizo and eggs. I do wish the tortillas were a little smaller, but that's not a dink to the experience at all - Smoked Salmon Benedict: okay so....imagine a really good Benedict, and this will top that. Instead of an English muffin or toast (I've seen both), this was on a croissant! This dish was so flavorful. Miscellaneous: - Parking is available via the parking spots in the middle of the street - Be mindful of peak meal hours as it did get crowded shortly after we arrived - Breakfast and lunch is served - I hope to visit again and would definitely add this to my list

This place is a cute spot on the main street in Pacific Grove. They have a nice wrap-around balcony. When we got there around noon on a Saturday, they didn't have seating inside, but there was some available outside. I felt like everything was just fine, nothing really outstanding. My frittata was kind of bland. It did come with a salsa that I could put on top, but that salsa was just spicy and not really any flavor other than spicy. I liked everything, but I expected it to be more exciting seeing the crowds. My mom got the portabello mushroom sandwich, which was huge and pretty tasty, though it says on the menu that all sandwiches are served with an orzo salad, which this wasn't. I guess you could pay to get fries or something in addition if you want a side. The sandwich was served on gigantic bread. I felt like the service was nice, but a little average. They had a lot of staff who walked by our table a lot, but it was a little hard to get our bill at the end. Not like I wouldn't go back or anything, but I'd try something different. The burger someone ordered looked pretty good!

So happy to see that Red House Cafe survived the pandemic! I first ate here in 2019 and finally got to come back almost 6 years later. The major changes I noticed since last time were: 1. They added a bunch of outdoor seating out front! We didn't have to wait for a table this time which was great. 2. Their prices have increased pretty significantly over the past few years. The portions are smaller as well which is unfortunate, but understandable given the rising costs of everything. I ordered the Smoked Salmon Benedict (my favorite), Cinnamon Brioche French Toast, and Chai Latte. The chai was actually incredible. Sweet, creamy, and heavy on the cinnamon! Overall, I have such a soft spot for this place and am looking forward to coming back.

Do they have gluten-free French toast, pancakes, or gluten-free waffles?

What's up with no serving free tap water with breakfast on the weekend?

They need to make their money, somehow, I guess!! Water is quite expensive on the Monterey Peninsula, so I guess that they are trying to balance out their water bill.

Do you have gluten-free bread for sandwiches? Or sourdough bread?

I don't know about gluten-free bread, but they do have sourdough bread.

Do you allow small dogs on the patio?

If they don’t bark or bite, absolutely:)

Are there plenty of outdoor tables?

There's enough outdoor seating and the cute/quaint look is continued outdoors too.

    Do waiters wear masks?

When we visited, staff did not wear masks.

    Do they have Take-away?

    Yes they do.

Is there a bicycle rack close by?

    Yes, in the area

Are there gluten free bread options?

As of June they did not

    Do they serve alcohol?

    Yes

For lunch, I went with their Big Sur pizza on gluten free crust. The crust was impressive. Not my favorite I've ever had but still a really good job. The pizza was vegan with fried oyster mushrooms, baked white mushrooms, various veggies, and a red sauce with white sauce drizzle. Pizza was great. Really sold me on coming back the next day. As for brunch, they did not have the GF biscuits. The gravy was still vegan and they offered to serve it on GF focaccia bread. However, at $22, I couldn't do it. Besides, I would at least need to add a couple eggs for some protein and I wasn't about to spend all of that on brunch. So instead, I went with huevos rancheros. This was excellent. The poblano sauce was spicy and hearty, the tortillas nice and crisp, and the pinto beans an interesting change of pace. The potatoes were awesome. Place is plain and pretty basic. The outside seating is in the sun and facing a blacktop parking lot, so you don't come here for the ambiance. But the food and service were excellent. Great vegan meals.

The fun artwork and paintings throughout the restaurant added so much personality and made the space even more enjoyable. We started with the duck pâté and bread. The pâté was silky smooth with just a hint of sweetness, paired perfectly with the toasted bread. It literally melted in your mouth. The octopus with bean and honey sauce was another standout. The sauce complemented the octopus beautifully. The octopus itself was incredibly tender and soft -- not chewy at all -- and honestly reminded me of some amazing octopus I had while visiting Portugal. The mussels came in a very generous portion, and the tomato sauce was so good you could drink it by itself. For our mains, we had the sea scallops and the seared tuna, and both dishes were excellent. Everything tasted fresh, thoughtful, and well executed. The coffee and tea cups were the Bodum brand, great quality, double-lined, and they kept the drinks warm while still being comfortable to hold. I had a pizza with non-dairy cheese. The crust was outstanding, with a great chew, just-right char, some of the better thin-crust pizza I've had. My one constructive suggestion is they could up their non-dairy cheese game. The binders in standard non-dairy cheese have a subpar texture when they melt. Miyoko's makes a fabulous cashew-based mozzarella pizza cheese that eschews binders and is a dense liquid rather than solid, and it's a remarkably good substitute for real mozzarella di bufala. Starting with the Return of the Fun Guy, this pizza featured black truffle velouté, mozzarella, a medley of mushrooms, hazelnuts, and tarragon pesto. The flavor was rich, savory, and incredibly satisfying. The truffle and mushroom combination worked perfectly together, creating a well-balanced pizza that wasn't overly heavy. The tarragon pesto was a pleasant surprise, especially since I'm usually not a huge pesto fan. My only minor criticism is that I would have liked a few more mushrooms on the pizza, but overall it was outstanding. The star of the meal was the Nueva Margherita. This elevated take on a traditional Margherita pizza came topped with house marinara, stracciatella, Parmesan, and fresh basil. The addition of the creamy stracciatella brought the pizza to another level and made every bite incredibly flavorful. The sauce was bright and fresh, the cheese was rich and plentiful, and the basil tied everything together perfectly. This is an absolute must-order. Service was fast, friendly, and attentive throughout our visit. The ambiance leans more toward a lively bar atmosphere with close seating. Overall, both pizzas were delicious.
