There was a brief period when some of the masseuses didn't quite understand the specifics of what I was asking for, but on my most recent visit, I had a new masseuse who completely nailed it. We love this little place, tucked in the Virginia Hills Shopping Center. Been coming here for years, the deep tissue massage is excellent. And the 2 or 3 different masseuses over the years have been terrific. Went to this place for the first time and will definitely return! Loved every minute of my massage! My fiancé loved his too! We were not sure what to expect but walked out so relaxed and I felt like even my range of motion was better! During the massage I thought wow they really get every muscle! and at first I was worried that it would be too much of a deep tissue, but it was just the right amount of pressure. Then the hot stones came and that felt amazing but I love how they use hot towels at the end to wipe away any residual oils. I left there thinking this will need to become a weekly ritual! Avoid this shady business! I went in at 5:05 today as a walk-in and asked if they had availability for a 90 minute massage. The receptionist took my card at 510 and I proceeded back to the room. I waited 10 minutes for the masseuse to come in my room. Not only did he do a crappy job, but he actually left for 10 minutes and finished my massage early at 6:33. I went to the front and and told the receptionist my masseuse finished early. She replied that it was only a few minutes early and told me I should be happy since I didn't have an appointment. I'm at a loss for words. I booked a 90 minute massage and left after two minutes. It was the worst massage of my life. Another review described it well. I felt like I was in a washing machine on a chaotic setting. It was strange and unpleasant. I have been a client of Sunrise Health Center for over 10 years. During this time I have always had excellent massages. The staff are friendly and professional. They try to match the same massage therapist to a client so the therapist can learn your "trouble-spots" and avoid a learning curve every visit. I have had massages all over the world and from some very famous and prestigious spas. After these visits, I typically feel that I receive better massages at Sunrise Health and for a much more reasonable price. Update: Still a good massage but minus one star for shaving about 7 minutes off my massage. They were having a special I couldn't pass up, 1hr special half foot and half body massage. The foot massage was nice and relaxing but the real star was the body massage. They take you to a room where you are given a full back massage with oil and hot stone. The place is clean and the beds are heated. Love the fact this place is nearby (I don't like driving very far after a massage). I took my weary body to Sunrise yesterday for a ninety minute massage from a favorite therapist. I hadn't seen her since having hip surgery some time ago. So glad I did. I have always loved Lisa's smiling and engaging personality as well as her professional technique and ready response to whatever my therapeutic needs. She will change pressures immediately if asked, and she seems to concentrate every stroke deliberately. I have never experienced anybody who works more diligently to satisfy. I left feeling so much better and determined that I would be returning soon. I would not hesitate to recommend Sunrise and Lisa to anyone. read more

My good friend and I have been coming here every month for awhile now and always have gotten good service until today. Massage was cut short where they skipped our lower legs and feet altogether. Then Coco decided to charge us the same price as an hour would be when we only got a 45 min massage. When I asked why it was the same price and that it should be less, she got pretty stern and said "she wasn't the boss" Either way, they unappolgetically overcharged us today and lost two loyal customers. Makes me sad that customer service isn't what it should be especially to people who frequently patronize your business. read more

Sometimes what you want and what you get are two VERY DIFFERENT Things... this time around, I got EXACTLY WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR and got a heck of a deal! :D I'm spoiling myself on the cheap this week (spring break). Yesterday, I was at another hole-in-the-wall massage place on the other side of town. Excellent deal, but sometimes you get ONLY get what you pay for. TODAY: I asked for "A-Jec" (sp?). I was a little early for my appointment, so I figured I would just chill in the front for 10 minutes. No such luck, the young woman came like a ninja from the darkness and offered me a strained smile and a welcoming gesture towards the curtained off area. I communicated that I had an appt, but all I got in response was a smile and a firm hand on my shoulder instructing me to sit down. I was immediately provided with a lukewarm bucket-o-water for my feet. Cool, whatever, keeping busy. After 5 minutes, I was certainly relaxed, but my feet were getting pruney and the water was approximately room temp. No biggie, I just took my feet out of the water and put them up on the stool in front of me. This provoked some excitement from the staff. The young woman came to my chair-side and reminded me to put my feet back into the water. I explained that the water was ,"not hot... cold. Not good... doesn't feel good." She was very understanding and returned just as fast as she came, with a fresh HOT bucket-o-water... *ahhhhhh nice* Just moments later, a very muscular gentleman made a beeline for my recliner chair and IMMEDIATELY began the regimen (1 hour foot reflexology- $25). He was NOT person that I had an appointment with, but one can't be too picky with such a great deal. OMFG, "Leo" (I got his name after) is a no muss-no fuss deep tissue robot. He stretched me, used his elbows to separate my muscles, used pressure points to release tension and basically treated me like a rag doll and made everything hurt (in a good way). Because I didn't cry, he worked out every kink and every knot in my body. This massage EXCEEDED MY EXPECTATIONS! I could not have asked for a better fit. I asked for "strong" and he put his elbows into it (literally). I tipped 40% because he was AWESOME! I feel like a noodle, no pain no gain. THANKS "LEO"! :D Pros: Competitive Prices (times are tough). Quiet atmosphere (usually, they try to be spa-like) Open LATE (until 10pm weekdays) Cons: -HIGH Staffing Turnover -When staff is bored, they huddle around the guy who's working (my guy) and chit chat and until another client comes in. Usually distracting and rude, but LEO was so good, it just didn't matter this time around. But in general, it's pretty tacky and totally unprofessional. PS - OF COURSE I will be back! I have gotten at least 12 massages here from CoCo. She has excellent therapeutic skills. Even when I have a pinched nerve or strained muscle (I'm an over-age-50 skateboarder) her technique makes me feel much better. Like others mentioned she has strong hands. Looked online for a reasonable massage, and called to book an appointment. The "receptionist" didn't understand my questions (what do you charge, to you have specials, are you online) and finally said "I don't speak much English". Asked for a 3:30 massage, but finished my errands early and dropped in about 1:30, since I didn't really trust her. Told them I called before, and this woman was almost insulted when I asked "did the gal write me in the book?". Their prices were posted in the lobby, so I chose the 1 hour body massage for $50. I asked if they could focus on my feet and was told yes. Massage was fine, comparable to Touch of Zen. I thanked him (never gave me his name and he also didn't communicate very well) but it was a good massage. When I went to pay, He told me it was $50. I gave him $55 and he recounted the money and said, no, tip is $10 on full massage. I said, it's a gratuity, it is optional (but know tips are "to insure proper service"). Basically, he smiled and repeated "no, it's $10, $5 for foot massage" and walked to the sign and pointed at the $50 price. So my 10% tip became a 20% fee, and after relaxing for 75 minutes, found the lingering affect was annoyance. You can't "charge" a tip. I felt pressured, so I gave him the required amount but don't think I will be back. read more

I had gotten off a double shift and my feet were killing me. I stopped at the chevron on pleasant hill blvd, and I spotted this place from the gas station and I thought I would give it a try. I walked in and the first thing I noticed was the atmosphere was very relaxing; the music and the soothing colors immediately started to make me feel better already. The receptionist was very nice she offered me some water & a seat while I was waiting. I wasn't expecting a very good massage from a woman that small in stature. But she was very capable and I received a very good massage and afterwards my feet were no longer killing me. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a good fix. read more

I have a spastic muscle in my neck that when it seizes puts pressure on my spinal cord. About a week ago, having been in pain for a full week prior, i could bear it no more. I began to call all local message places in Martinez/PH- the first 4 didn't answer their phones. After reading the reviews about foot messages I called and asked if they did body/neck messages- they did and had an immediate opening! Drove out there and explained (again- as I stated on the phone already) I mainly wanted a shoulder and neck message for my spastic muscle. The lady at the front count brushed me off and asked if I wanted a boy or girl? hmmmm I said female- and was escorted into a room. I estimate my masseuse to be about 98 lbs, but manhandled me like a gorilla. I told her 3 times to be softer...Her techniques were odd and nothing I had experienced before. THEN...something I didn't expect- she straddled me, and began to do a buttock message!!!!! ugh.....I tried to tell her my pain was acute and in my neck- but she could not understand me at all. She stopped for a minute, going to my lower back, then returning to the butt....and rough! I think she was mad that I had cellulite or something. Finally, I think my body language said it all and she stopped. Longest 45 minutes of my life! Did I mention they have no message oil..they use Suave lotion:( I began to wonder if this was a legitimate message parlor and based on the big fat white man walking in as I was leaving- wonder less. read more

The special $19.99 Foot Massage sign caught my eye and so my girlfriend and I decided to give them a try this morning! We were not disappointed. I had Paul and his pressure is pretty strong, but that is how I like it. The foot massage was good - they massage your head, your arms, your calves and your feet. Then, they ask you to 'roll over', the chair is then fully reclined and you are in for a 10-15 minute body massage. My shoulders and back feel great. The chairs are comfy, the room is dim and the music was soothing. I recommend this place and will be back. read more

Great experience and great value! Not sure how they do it at their prices but be sure to give an hourly tip rather than a % tip. Great place I highly recommend for a set of hands on your feet or back. Sunrise Health Center - Massage Near Me - Martinez, California

First, the price for Sunrise Health Center was very affordable. When I was led into the massage area, I noticed the table did not have a place for me to place my face at the end of the table. Instead, it was just a pillow near the top of the table with a place for my face. My neck was arched upward slightly and my face felt smashed. The massage started out with the MT massaging me thru the sheet. No oil. I've never had this happen before. About half way through, she did lower the sheet and use oil. Throughout most of the massage, the MT was rubbing quickly. Any other massage I've ever had the rubbing was slower. On a positive note, the MT did rub low on my lower back. Anyone with lower back issues will tell you that the pain is above and below the belt line. Some MT's are bashful about going below the belt line. When the massage was over, the MT placed a hot wet towel on my back and cleaned off the massage oil. I liked that. The other complaints I have I think are more of a personal preference of what I don't like, so I won't mention them. Bottom line, I won't be returning. read more
