On our builder's recommendation we hired Sunrise to do our landscaping. Alex was the designer sent to the project. We were sent a design and went over it via exchanged emails. As the home was nearing completion the installation began. I was not on site to monitor but the installers varied from the proposal by reshaping the beds and not installing trees in the right location. Came to find out later that soil amendments were not used. We lost several plants quickly. Several were replaced because they were planted too low. Two others were supposed to be replaced but never were. The beds were never re-shaped. After that everything that didn't make it was because of too much or too little watering. We hired someone else to re-landscape and found that many plants were planted in areas with the wrong sun exposure. These have thrived since being moved. We got a significant amount of work done in our backyard over the last year and this year. The work included planting bushes, ground cover, dry river, stepping stones, etc. The communications with them to come up with the design and implementation were professional and timely. Cost wise, my assessment is that they are not the cheapest or the most expensive, but keeping in mind the quality of their work, I would say they are a reasonable balance between cost and quality. Just had to share how happy I have been with Sunrise Landscape and Design! For years we had hired a young professional who had been in business for about 5 years to take care of our weekly lawn service. We liked the idea of giving the small guy a chance and were sure we were getting a great/low rate. Problem was the service was just mediocre. I resigned myself to the fact that it was a small business owned by someone who did not have enough experience. But I kelp going anyway. Finally, (thankfully) I decided to try Sunrise after I had concluded that the work that was being done by the small business owner was on par with what I could do myself. Sunrise came in gave a comprehensive evaluation of my grass and beds. They made awesome recommendations...some changes I hired them to do and other I tacked myself using their instruction. Best part is my weekly cutting rate is the same as when I was using the small business. I am getting a great rate and have access to the 25+ years of knowledge that Sunrise brings to the industry. They now (for 3 years running) take care of my weekly lawn service and it's never looked better. I actually love seeing the truck pull up bc I know that means my time (and that of my husbands) is a bit more free over the coming weekend to enjoy life! I totally recommend them! read more

You should not trust titles such as Best of Loudoun... I made a costly mistake selecting Sunrise Landscape because of it. I should have picked one based on customer reviews. I hired them to reshape my front yard and plant flowers. The hardscaping work, although more expensive than market price, was fine. But the perennials they ordered and planted either did not give flowers or died next season. The plants were supposed to be easy going types, like day lilies, phlox, verbena, daisies etc. Nothing fancy. Yet they did not survive. You hire a professional landscaper to get assured that your garden lives. Sadly, this is not the case. Also, they never came back once to check their work. I was overcharged by at least a thousand for the material that only worth a couple of hundred dollars. I would not be surprised if this company goes out of business in near future. read more

Had a months of problems with this company. I gave them every opportunity to make right their mistake after mistake. All I got was an apology and no action. Their guys in the field are fine but my experience with the account manager and office management team was less than satisfactory. I was promised services they don't even preform like injection fertilization of trees and bagging the cut grass. Though I selected no chemical treatment for my yard, I found their guys spraying round up weed control (rather then pulling the weeds as I requested). We had bills arrive months late, so I would get slammed with a $3000 bill because they don't seem to be organized enough to bill monthly. And then my 2nd bill came with an additional $800 in charges from 3 months previous! In all, we have over $4000 in to Sunrise for 3 quarters of the mowing season and it's the worst money I've ever spent. You know it's bad when you fire your landscaper in the middle of mowing season. read more

Sunrise Landscaping & Design does fantastic work! They did landscaping work for me at my previous home a few years ago. So when I wanted some work done this time I called them again. This time they did both landscaping and paving. I am quite pleased with the work done, just as before. In front they replaced a redbud tree with a crepe myrtle, added pavers to my front porch and walkway and along the sides of the driveway. In the back they planted vinca minor and astilbe. They split and moved the hydrangea bush to the landscaping wall garden areas. And lastly, they did some touchup repairs and added sand to the existing patio and patio walls. Everything looks great and I expect the vinca to grow out in the coming years. Joe Markell does a great job listening to your wants and needs and translating that into reality. And I have found his prices competitive and quality outstanding. I highly recommend. read more
