Good varieties - all the independent locals, small brew houses from all over the nation, and also lots of international. I enjoy finding beer's I've never seen in there. He also has a fun selections of alcoholic ciders and decent wine. The snacks are the best. They have all the classics, plus "upscale" connivence snacks like kettle chips, organic stuff, rare flavors. Huge variety of non alcoholic drinks. I like the guys who work here. They're knowledgeable about the beers and remember frequent customers. For a gas station, this mart is awesome. read more

Everyone's 5 star rating is right on the money. Selection of beers is one of the largest for Austin. If you need a beer recommendation, ask the guys at the register. They have either tired the beer or have some knowledge about the beer and brewery. There is also a small selection of singles. Their facebook and twitter pages have pictures of new arrivals. Ever been to a beer tasting at a gas station? I have, and it was here at the Sunrise Minimart. I believe it was Brooklyn Brewery and North Coast Brewing that were providing samples that day. It was funny to see the looks of confusion on people's faces when they walked in to pay for gas and saw 20 people hanging around drinking beer out of tiny cups. Sunrise's beer selection is excellent, for a store of any size, and it's getting better. This place is probably what Whip-in was like before it transformed from a convenience store to what it is today. The staff is always friendly and lets you know about events, new products, and they are very in-tune with what beers will be available when. The wine selection at Sunrise is way above average for a convenience store, but I think that the Crestview Minimax has them beat on selection--if not on price. I'm really glad to have this place in my neighborhood. It means I don't have to drive to Whole Foods or Central Market to get the snobby froo-froo beers and wines that I so richly deserve. thrilled to have discovered this little gem via Bon Appétit/food & wine. The incredible beer selection aside.. wine in a city like atx should be more of a thing and this place is a brilliant start. You can get a crisp Portuguese white for under $10 or a beautiful $50++ biodynamic rosé from the south of France. All kinds of fantastic reds, too. How exciting to see the remnants of unpasteurised goodness at the bottom of a bottle when you pull it out. It's not just about drinking organically it's about knowing what you're drinking, where it's made, who's making it, how to enjoy it the way the maker would want you to, supporting these smaller family oriented, sustainable, traditional winemakers without all the aids/additives/headache inducing sulfites. I've heard great things about this place and just hadn't gotten a chance to check it out until a week or so ago. I'm pretty sure when I walked in the beer angels started to sing... This place is every (craft) beer drinkers dream. Pretty much the entire right side of the store is devoted to great beer. I saw stuff that I've yet to see in any of the bigger liquor stores around town. Freshness was also top notch... I didn't notice anything that was past its "best by" date. The staff was extremely knowledgable, helpful, and nice. Treated me like I had been coming in for years (which is probably going to start happening). The only drawback to Sunrise... I'm going to be spending way more money on beer. read more

I recently stopped by and purchased a case of local, limited production Texas craft beers. I loved everything about this store. It's a gas station liquor store, but an emporium of craft products inside. They carried local craft coffee roasters such as Cuvee, and mind exploding amount of craft beer I have never seen before. My interest was more of the rare Texas craft beers and ciders, and some breweries that don't have distribution in California. I heard to due to some laws it would be difficult to distribute Texas craft beers outside the state. I walked out with a case and lucky for me, I was able to bring them all home with me without a bottle shattering in my luggage and checked backpack. Not much more to say that hasn't been said about this place. They make sure every product they bring in is of good quality. They even started bringing some good wine I suggested so for us there is no need to go anywhere else for our wine and beers. They even stocked up for me during the holidays and got some excellent champagne. There prices are the same (or better) than the big stores and their customer service is the best, so why go anywhere else? This review is long overdue. I moved to Crestview in 2010 and had no idea that God's gift to craft beer stores was walking distance to my house. So this was a big plus... The owners are nice and post updates on their facebook and twitter feeds when they get new beers in. This is great because I love to try new stuff and especially limited releases. The selection of beer is as good as it gets. If they can get their hands on a craft brew, they are going to stock it and Sam fights to get as much of the limited releases as he can. read more

If one were to simply drive by Sunrise Mini Mart, one's first impression would be, "Meh, just another run of the mill ghetto looking gas station and convenience store." But one would be wrong, oh so very wrong. I walked in to the store, and immediately heaven opened up and I heard voices of a thousand angels singing as they beckoned me to a beer selection rivaled only by Specs. I do not know how they managed to fit such a huge selection in such a tiny space. They must have some sort of deal with beings from another dimension to lease a portal in back and store all the beer inventory in the realm of the frost giants. I'm somewhat of a beer snob in that I prefer locally brewed craft beer from either TX or Austin. But trying to find places that sell what I like is sometimes like trying to catch a unicorn. I asked the clerk if they had one of my favorite hard to find brews, and immediately he pointed me to whats behind refrigerator door number 4 in the back stacked just in front of the entrance to the frost giant realm. I fell to the ground and wept tears of joy. This place has my unicorn of beer. It's the unicorn breeding ground for local beer. This is the end of the rainbow, people. I never knew how many different kinds of root beer I wanted to drink until I saw them all on display at Sunrise. The main offering, of course, is the wide selection of beers, but they also carry a diverse array of snacks, ice creams, and non-alcoholic beverages. As the boyfriend of a vegan, I appreciate all the vegan-friendly snacks they stock. Recently we found a couple pints of dairy-free Ben & Jerry's, and that stuff you can't even find at gigantic grocery stores (we've checked). Vegan cookies, awesome obscure chocolate bars, plus everything else you've come to expect from any bog-standard convenience store, like mainstream soft drinks and Gatorade and whatnot. I have no idea how it all fits in there. This place is one of the major perks of living in the neighborhood. This is not your normal mini mart, this is beer meca! Don't come here looking for miller lite, or bud lime, come here to get some of the area's absolute best bottles and cans. Some of my favorite breweries from California have beers here that I can't get anywhere else. Specs beer selection doesn't even hold a candle to this place. So many days of tastings, special single bottle events. Their Facebook is always listing something new every day it seems. It helps that its the second closest place to my house to get beer. I know people that drive from round rock and cedar park just to get in line for their special events. There's a slew of beer convenience store in town lately as craft beer has taken off in the past decade or so and Sunrise's selection is on par with the best of them. Sunrise tends to be one of the first places in town to get a lot of newer items and also has a twitter feed and frequently posts about new arrivals so you can get a leg up if you're wanting to get your hands on new or limited craft beer offerings. Prices are reasonable, and Sam has been very friendly and helpful every time I've been by or called. I picked up a few Anderson Valley Blood Orange Goses this past weekend which was absolutely delicious and refreshing and will definitely be back for more. They also have a small singles selection with some nice selections as well as tons of 22 oz bottles, 6 packs and cases.
