I only go to Sunrise maybe once every few months, but staff always recognizes me and chats for a minute. Excellent beer selection. I was not incredibly impressed with Specs, but between Specs and Sunrise you can mostly find what you're looking for. Sunrise had a smokebeer that I haven't been able to find for awhile, as well as some Hitachino Nest (which I completely recommend, at least the White Ale and Espresso Stout). Probably the best bottle shop on the north side of town. Something of a hidden gem, although it seems that their clientele continues to expand. The Sunrise is almost always among the first shops in town to get their hands on rare beer releases. They have a massive selection of Belgians and other Continental rarities. Hands down the best craft beer selection at a great price in Austin. This place definitely doesn't get the recognition they deserve. The selection is almost overwhelming and had everything I was looking for ex: 120 min Dogfish Head, Deep Ellum Cherry Chocolate Double Brown Stout, etc. The guy at the register was also very nice, welcoming, and gave me his card. He told me if there was anything I was looking for specifically I can always email and ask. I used to drive all over Austin to Whip-In, WhichCraft Beer store, etc. I will not be doing that anymore. I am blown away by the selection of craft beer that this place has! I mean, its a convenience store, small in size, but packed with an incredible beer selection. The first time I went here was because I was picking up a pizza at East Side Pies next door so I ran in to get a "quick" bottle of wine. My girlfriend was waiting in the car and I was overwhelmed by the beer selection. 20 minutes later I come out to an angry girl. I almost don't want to review Sun Rise bc they always get some rare beers in and sometimes I luck out and sometimes they are out. This will probably lessen my chances but im all over helping small local business. Overall selection is on par with Specs or Central Market beer-wise. They just need breakfast tacos and sandwiches and it would be the ultimate C-store. Clean, friendly staff that remembers your name, where does that happen anymore. Lots of local products. All of the guys at this place are super friendly and helpful and only stock items they personally love. They carry the best selection of beers around this part of town as well as unique, organic foods - both local and things like Jeni's ice cream. Lick Ice Creams, Yeti Frozen Custard, Coolhaus, Coffer Iced Coffee, Cuvee Coffee, Chameleon Cold Brew, Lala's Lemonades, Green Cart Sandwiches, Buddha's Brew Kombucha (in bottles AND on tap! $9.99 fills if you bring your own growler!), Kosmic Kombucha, and so much more. They also carry Jeni's Ice Creams, Askinosie Chocolates, and other foodie favorites. You really can't go wrong. Their beer game is strong, and their wine and snack aisles never disappoint. The coolers offer a fantastic selection of beers, especially eclectic ones from Dogfish Head, SKA brewing, North Coast, etc. And not only the standard ones but also the .75 liter oddballs and such. INSANE beer selection. Giant beer selection with intricate variety, and a metric ton of the selection is in the fridge glass, nice and cold for you. Really, for anywhere you could go for beer this is a destination! Prices are decent. AND... since it's a convenience store, it's allowed to be open later than liquor stores (I'm looking at you, Specs). Hard to believe other convenience stores can't be like this. It's a quality beer drinkers' nirvana. The owner/operators are super nice and very knowledgeable while treating you like royalty.
