I'm way overdue this review and refuse to not update the world on the grossness this location needs a deep clean and possible upgrade. A group of us went in for cocktails only and were seated at a booth. Now, I am a germaphobe and have a tendency to look up/down and all the way around when at a restaurant. One glass in and I so happened to look over my spouse's shoulder and see the nastiest spider webs directly next to them. I mean if they would have sneezed or sat back it would have been no bueno. We went here for a ladies night and let me say it was a great choice. It appears to be a family owned restaurant which is promising when looking for good food. We were seated immediately and our waitress was very friendly. We ordered two servings of bread at $1.00 each . The bread is very much worth the dollar Next we ordered our entrees which came out quickly due to the restaurant being empty . I've eaten and many of The Grove locations and all are good. Last week I met a friend for lunch at the Bee Cave location and had their Asian Crisp salad w/o bell peppers. I met another friend at the downtown location after a networking event. We sat at the bar and had a good time catching up. It was within walking distance of where we were meeting earlier and offers a variety of choices. We each had a glass of wine and some appetizers. I love their mushroom soup and didn't realize until after I ordered it that it has yellow bell peppers in it. I was able to pick most of them out. They were kind enough to knock a few dollars off the bill for the inconvenience, which I appreciated. I'm more sensitive to the green ones but the yellow ones I'm not a fan of either. What a lovely place! The service was wonderful and the staff made sure our large group (12) was fully taken care of at all times. Everything from the appetizers to dessert was delicious! My second time here trying some new things, I took an Uber from South Austin to meet some girlfriends for a catchup. What's not pictured here is the bruschetta. It's a flat $15 for three crustini but you get to pick combo three ways to have it. For example: ricotta, lemon peel and bacon or prosciutto, fig and arugula or raspberry, goat cheese and honey. The little crustini is then cut into like 6 one bite pieces. If I'm being honest it was not exciting at all, none of them wowed me in flavor or texture and I was low key mad at the price point for three toast points. Try something else. I had a skinny margarita and it was delicious and the mains are always delicious. My halibut was cooked to perfection. We started with the Cabernet Flight, and we both usually tend toward the heartier (and generally more expensive) wines, but my wife ended up liking the least expensive one better! The flights are a good way for one, two, or more of you to try a few different options at a reasonable price. For dinner, my wife got the Quinoa Bowl and added shrimp. I got the Parm Crusted Flounder. Both were excellent, and came out quickly, fresh, and tasty. My fish was excellent, the grits were very good, and the mound of asparagus was great. The Quinoa had a great mix of veggies, and was a great, healthier option. Our server was super busy, but checked in on us regularly, and took great care of us. The cheese is really gooey and the outside is just the right amount of crunch. The carrot ginger soup has a great balance of the sweetness of the carrots and the ginger flavor is not overwhelming. Went on a Friday night around 8:00pm at the beginning of November and it was completely dead. I'm not from the area to know what locals do on the weekend, but there was a total of 5 tables all sat in close proximity at a decently large restaurant. It felt a very uncomfortable. Service was extremely slow. We sat at the table for at least 20 minutes before being approached. By that time we were ready to order both food and drinks. Drinks arrived about 15 minutes after ordering, even though it was slow, and the food took about 20, which is very understandable. Food and drinks were good. I ordered the Abi Tuna Poke app as my entree, my friends ordered the Spicy Ginger Noodles and the Penne with Cured Tomatoes (added chicken) with fries to share. However that was about all that was good. After our food arrived, our server never came back to the table. Never refilled our water or asked if we wanted another drink. We had to flag someone down for the check after finishing our food. For the "level" of overall service I expect while paying $50 for one drink and entree, I am disappointed. The only complaint I had was that the bread was not sliced all the way through, so it was a little difficult to pull a piece off. The atmosphere was nice and calm. We decided to try this restaurant down the street from our hotel on 6th Street. We didn't have a reservation, but we were told we could sit at the bar. The bar has seats around it as well as a few tables of 4 and tables for 2. We took a table for two and enjoyed the bar's ambiance. We had a great server who was friendly, gave excellent selection advice and was consistently around to refill our water glasses, which I always appreciate. We started with the Oven Roasted House Meatballs, which were quite big (4 in all), and you could tell they were freshly made. It came with two slices of bread that were perfect for this appetizer. I'm not sure what type of bread it was, but we both felt it enhanced the meatballs. The sauce itself was divine! We also requested to share a Large Grove Wedge Salad with our meal and the server brought it out on two separate plates, perfectly sliced for two. It was also quite good and complimented our main dish selections. I order the Bolognese and the sauce was similar to the meatballs but had more of a creamy texture to it. It was probably one of the best Bolognese dinners I have ever experienced! The serving was quite large, and I had to take nearly half of it in a to-go box. My friend had the Spicy Asian Noodles (based on our server's recommendation), and she too raved about her dish and had to get a to-go box, as we were both pleasantly full. If I am back in Austin again, I will not hesitate to make a reservation and return to this great restaurant. read more

This review is based on a company meeting we had here for about 40 people. It was a morning meeting that went into the afternoon, and it does not reflect the wine bar itself, just the food. We started with a breakfast buffet that was supposed to start at 8:30 but didn't happen until 9 o'clock which set our meeting back. Breakfast tacos were the offering, however, we were all surprised there was no salsa. Who serves breakfast tacos in Austin without salsa?! Needless to say, the tacos were not very exciting. They did have a large pot of coffee and water, but no juice. As a result, this poorly executed breakfast was somewhat disappointing. I was hoping the lunch beffet would be better, but it too left much to be desired. The Caesar salad was mediocre and there was no shaved Parmesan to save it. The other house salad fared better. The salmon served on a bed of rice was fairly flavorless. Even the chicken served on mashed potatoes was forgettable, but at least it wasn't dry. However, their small chocolate raspberry desserts were very tasty. There were some things noticeably absent, like something to drink other than water, dinner rolls, and there were no salt and pepper dispensers on the tables. At least they use proper silverware with cloth napkins. The table service was somewhat present, but not attentive. To sum it up, everything was edible, but forgettable. If you're looking to have a large meeting here of 50 people or less, I would not recommend this place, as it was quite crowded and fairly uncomfortable. Fortunately, I was not picking up the bill for these 2 buffets, otherwise this would be two stars not three. read more

I think 4/5 stars is fair. This place is so good. The bruschetta was absolutely the highlight but I'm a sucker for some good bruschetta. The only thing I would say is that I ordered the Calabrian chili pasta and the main ingredient was....onion. Which I am fine with. However, it was not mentioned in the menu and had my husband ordered it he would've started flipping tables. Sunny was our waitress/bartender and while the Filet was perfectly cooked and the bolognese was stupidly good, the dinner was exceptional because of Sunny.
