I want to be clear: this is not a complaint about the staff. The front-line worker was kind, communicative, and even gave me a free coffee when things went sideways. They did what they could. The failure here was ownership and systems. The restaurant showed as open, accepted orders, then didn't open on time. Grubhub couldn't reach the store, the order couldn't be fulfilled, and I was told I'd have to wait days for a refund, for an order that was never accepted or made. This is exactly the kind of situation where a comped meal or immediate resolution should be standard. Instead, the burden was pushed onto the customer and the staff member, neither of whom caused the issue. Mistakes happen. What matters is how they're handled. Here, there was no contingency, no empowerment of staff, and no real accountability. So I constantly order from Sunset Bagels. I'm not a one time customer I've ordered from 49th St. and I've bought it from Forth Avenue 4th Ave. with my preferred choice for a while. But the incident I had today with the young lady on the phone. I told her from the beginning. If I am purchasing something I want it. Made it specifically the way I'm asking as coffee, hot light, and sweet and I asked her to cut my muffin like a sandwich. And I also ordered the bacon egg and cheese specifically told her can you please check my order because cause a lot of times. They tend to send it. Not the way I ordered. I wanted her to make sure before It got sent out. My coffee came cold. My muffin wasn't done the way I asked, and then she had a nasty attitude on the phone about it and she had the audacity told me to send her food back, which I thought is against Food regulations. And I didn't have a problem with that but I had a problem with is. She doesn't know how to listen to a customer. They're not giving me anything for free. I'm purchasing it, and after that, she kept playing games on the phone and put me on hold putting me on hold. She doesn't deserve to work a customer service job with an attitude like that customers shouldn't get treated like that. Especially one like me who I've been with you guys forever so I spent almost $25 with the tip and I got a cold coffee and a cold muffin and nothing to drink with my sandwich. Oh, And just for the record. I removed two videos. Because the brothers who own the place Angelo and Marcelo. Are long time Friends and they are awesome. Food: Their bagels are fresh and soft! I ordered a cinnamon raisin bagel with scallion cream cheese. They make the cream cheese fresh by mixing scallions in before spreading it onto the bagel. Overall, an excellent bagel. Their made-to-order salads are also fresh and delicious. They have a variety of menu items including cold and hot sandwiches, paninis, a full salad bar, hot entrees, smoothies, juices, shakes, bottled drinks, and desserts. Service: Service is quite slow at this place especially during the lunch hour. I've waited half an hour for a salad. They receive many online and takeout orders. I wouldn't recommend coming here if you don't have time to wait during lunch. They don't seem to pay attention to who is waiting for their orders and prepare other orders that have been called in or ordered online before preparing orders for those waiting in the store. "Down at the Sunset Grill".. Don Henley's tune popped in my head as I walked in to the Grill. I have to say I stopped here by chance because the R train wasn't running from my station thus took an Uber for 1/2 of my destination. I decided to stop in and just get a coffee but decided to cheat and get a whole wheat bagel with veggie cream cheese and a bottle of Ruby Red Grapefruit juice. I did wait around ten minutes and yes, there were no other patrons there. ( it was @8:15 am, Brooklynites to sleep in on Sundays). The service was a tad slow and yes the bill was $7 ( flavored cream cheese runs $5.50)but the Bay Ridge bagel store near my house charges the same. They offer flagels(?), bialys, sandwiches, breakfast and so much more. I took the bagel to go and dine at NY's finest: N train express. Yes, I munched and got cream cheese everywhere but I did ask for extra napkins. The bagel was fresh and the veggie cream cheese was good BUT not as good as Bay Ridge. I like veggie cream cheese to have olives, scallions and carrots. Sunset's cream cheese contained carrots and I think bell peppers. I was too hungry to really notice. I think the food and the vibe are fine here and the establishment is clean. Will I come again? Yeah, the next time the R train runs a shuttle bus service on the weekend. read more

Stumbled upon this place totally by chance as I walked out of the subway and decided, well, I guess I'm having a bagel. It was pretty empty, but the guy at the cash register was pretty attentive and gave me a run-down on all the choices. They even have some sort of crazy rainbow-birthday-cake-flavored looking one that I was not bold enough to try because I like what I like. Settled on a toasted egg bagel with extra butter which did not disappoint in any way. Ended up stopping back in again for a piece of chocolate mousse I couldn't stop thinking about since I'd left. This time there were 2 employees, and one on the phone. I understand there's fees, but hey - you get what you pay for when it comes to ordering from here. My husband always gets the same order - a Greek omelette with no tomatoes or onions, with a side of sausage, hash browns, and butter rye bread. This is about $15 and some change. I always opt for their western omelette with added American cheese, hash browns, and buttered white bread. Again, about $15 or so. The portions are HUGE; you can totally split the order and have breakfast again the next morning and not feel bad about it. The food is always delivered piping hot, and even more important - it's always correct. With all the additions or revisions, they never get the order wrong, and this is comfort food at its finest! A new installment to franchise, which started with the store on 49th and 5th. I used to frequent regularly, but their high prices chased me away. This location is follows the same price-- I wanted a bagel with cream cheese for my daughter, a buttered bagel for myself and another bagel with nothing on it. I was given a total of $7.31, which I found to be fairly high, but what could I do. I waited around for a bit, while it was early and not very crowded, the bagels took awhile to prepare. Once I finally got my order and left-- I planned on eating half of the bagel before I got home, however, when I opened it up, I realized they gave me cream cheese by accident instead of butter. I guess that made up for the high price, but I don't anticipate visiting here on a regular basis. The prices here are just a tad too high and the wait times are too long. read more

Walked in to this place for a quick bagel breakfast the other day. Sunset Bagels are so good so I was very excited to see a second location close to my house. I had the everything bagel w scallion cream cheese and lox. For $11 it was a very good deal although I do wish they added an extra slice of lox. My friend got the everything bagel with strawberry cream cheese and loved it. Coffee was average. I do agree w other reviews if they dished out better quality coffee this place would have 5 stars. Although for its location right around the subway and it being open 24 hours it's pretty good. Definitely recommended for a quick bite. read more

But absolutely the slowest and not the brightest people working here. The amount of times you have to repeat your order for some of them to get your whole order correct is insane. Always exciting when a new 24/7 option opens up in the neighborhood (yes, I realize how very spoiled I am to be able to say that) -- I've been eager to visit this new spot since someone handed me a menu at the 36th St station the other day. On that note, it's on the same block as the SW 36th St entrance so will be very convenient for anyone to grab a coffee, bagel, etc. on the way to/from the train. The space has been spruced up beautifully with floor/ceiling windows that open up facing the street and a good amount of seating just inside. My tuna wrap was great and I'll definitely try out more menu items -- they're just a bit pricier overall than other options in the area with very similar offerings and 24/7 delivery (ex: the diner) so that may be a challenge to thrive in the area. read more

Right by the 36th street subway stop. This made an ideal location for a 24 hour operation. I like going early in the morning for a toasted rainbow bagel with a lox cream cheese spread. How New York is that?! They steam the cream before they pour in a coffee order, that's a nice touch. Very clean. They charged my credit card twice for $164.33 and wont reimburse my card, even after my bank reached out to them. So I called the cafe on May 6th and spoke to the owner and told him my card was charged twice and my bank was told by his company that they wouldn't reimburse me because it was past 60 days. He said he would take care of it and gave me his cell phone so I could text him a screen shot of my bank statement of the double charge so he can look into it faster and resolve the issue. May 11th I texted him to remind him and he said (and I'll quote his text) "Hey sir still working on it I'll reach out to them once again tomorrow I'll be in touch ty for the reminder." Okay great. I thought maybe he forgot about it but now for sure he'll take care of it. On May 14th I had to text him again because I didn't see any credit in my bank. No reply. June 3rd I texted him again and again I sent him a screen shot of the double charge. He didn't reply so I called him the same day, he told me he couldn't talk so I quickly told him this matter has to be resolved or I'll have to take him to small claims. He said he would take care of it. Nothing happened so Friday June 4th I texted him telling him on Monday June 7th I'll have to take him to small claims and all his company has to do is reimburse my credit card. Nothing. I called him to give him one last chance but it went straight to voice mail so I texted him one last time to remind him this issue is unresolved. I'm very surprised because he seemed like he was going to take care of this mater but nothing actually happens. It's an easy fix and the fact that I sent $164.33 and I could very easily spend that again since I buy feed for my cast and crew I would imagine he would want to make sure he kept my business but I guess not. He has all of my info so there is no excuse. Actions speak louder than words and this is a clear indication of this. It's too bad because the food was good and I'd much rather write a glowing review for a business than to write this kind. read more
