We were sad to have an unpleasant experience, considering the place was colorful and comfortable. The menu is unique and has interesting selections. However, we ordered the fried cauliflower. It arrived breaded, which was the first disappointment. I peeled off the breading to make the best of it and the cauliflower tasted stale to me. We asked the waiter if he would take it off our bill. The waiter said no, I don't know, I'll ask the owner. The owner came over and queried us why we didn't want it. We both repeated what we told the waiter. Now it was uncomfortable. She agreed to take half of the cost off of the bill. I have never been in a decent restaurant where management would hesitate so much - and even grill someone - about taking something off the bill for which we were unsatisfied. The worst part is that she said the dish was listed in the menu as tempura-battered. (It was not). Either she was unfamiliar with her own menu, or she lied. There is a large menu, including vegetarian and vegan offerings. I had the "Full Pull" burger (BG is the home of the National Tractor Pull event) with homemade fries--delicious. Was looking for great food and great service after a round of golf at Stone Ridge with friends. Got both here! I had the chicken flatbread with carmelized onions and balsamic - yum! Friends had the caprese skewers, the salmon flatbread, the layered quinoa salad, and the holiday surprise sandwich (which came with REAL turkey). All got rave reviews. I probably wouldn't have reviewed this place if they weren't getting such rave reviews from family and friends. I've tried it three times. The first time because it was a new place, the second because I believe in second chances, and the third because I'm a fool. The three people I've dined with here agree: the food is bland to bad and you could easily do better spending a few minutes making something at home. One of our orders was a pasta dish that tasted like somebody added a frozen bag of vegetables to some Prego. And were those hard, inedible things parts of mushrooms? Talk about unappetizing. So I only had carry out but when 3 different employees of a packed restaurant greet you and make sure you're being helped..how can you not think they rock? Add the fact that the only thing that would have made the apple sandwich better was if I had eaten in (No one can change the fact that carry out fried/grilled food gets a little limp or soggy-not on them!) Another amazing experience at the best restaurant in BG! Although we live out of state now, Sunset Bistro is at the top of our list whenever we visit here. The five of us all had delicious, expertly prepared meals last night and we're still blown away by the variety of the menu. Our server Nick hustled the whole night and ensured every item was just right. The bartender even came over to help a member of our group select a drink she'd like. Can't wait for the patio area to open for al fresco dining! We'll be back! Exceptional experience again! Our party of 15 had a 7pm reservation but asked to move that up to 6:30pm and the staff didn't miss a beat. Wonderful restaurant off the beaten path on the West side of town where options are slim for dining out. They have great food and specials coupled with continued looking out for giving back to the community with various fundraisers (many for veterans). I only went to Sunset Bistro once in my time in my five years living in BG and I'm kind of sad it was only once! Went there with a big group on St. Patrick's day because we wanted a restaurant that wouldn't be filled with a bunch of drunk college kids. Called about a week ahead to make a reservation and they had a table set up when we got there. I had the apple sandwich (unique!) and sweet potato fries which were really good, I think the rest of my party was pretty happy with their food as well. The Lent menu was a nice touch too. It's a quaint local place with good food and good service that I wish I could have supported more - I love locally owned places like this. read more

Best kept secret in Bowling Green. This restaurant makes fantastic food and unique dishes which is rare to find around here. I ate at Sunset Bistro for the first time today, and I'm bummed out that I didn't eat there sooner because it is freakin' amazing! They have so many vegetarian options, I could eat here every week without running out of things to try. My boyfriend and I went a few weeks ago, and had an awesome time. It was completely packed, so we sat at the bar. We ordered the fried ravioli as an appetizer, which was amazing. I will definitely be ordering that again. I ordered the fried perch with mashed potatoes and sweet potato fries as my dinner. The portions were huge, the food was fresh, everything was wonderful. What a great alternative to the usual college town fare. The summer menu includes a fantastic grilled chicken creation with grapes, apples, crazins, and walnuts. Exceptional. Two sides come with the entrees- I would highly recommend the cauliflower/hash brown/pea casserole. The menu is varied and the sandwich selection looks very tempting for our next visit. The menu did not say that ravioli Marsala had red and green things in it. It looked absolutely disgusting and I had to ask three times to get it taken away. The waitress asked me if I would like something else. I ordered the pulled pork. It was dry and tasted terrible. I choked down one bite and that was all I could do. The server did nothing to try to make it right, didn't even ask what was wrong with the pork, and I was charged $24 for a terrible bite of pulled pork. I do not recommend this restaurant. read more

I visited Sunset Bistro for lunch on a Friday. There was no wait to get a table, which my friend said is rare, as it's usually very busy. We had the special of the day: A burger with black bean avocado salsa, hot sauce, and swiss on a Hawaiian roll. The burger itself could have used some additional seasoning; and, personally, I would have used pepperjack or queso fresco. BUT, the ingredients all together were fantastic - SO tasty!! And the french fries were out of sight - fresh, square-cut fries with a generous coating of salt AND pepper - YUM! I would absolutely visit again to try another great burger! read more

Worst experience of my life. Just left Sunset Bistro. We ordered over the phone and the owner was very short. Unfortunately I have heard disappointing things about the owners attitude before, so I was hesitant to place the order to begin with. There was a miscommunication over the phone so when we picked up the meal... It was not correct. Sadly, She continued to argue with my husband about the order....when instead, she should have apologized for the miscommunication... And did whatever she needed to do to make it right. I went back inside and handed her my meal (untouched and uneaten) and asked nicely for my money back for the meal. I told her that there was a miscommunication but because of how sour the events turned... I would like my money back. but she absolutely refused to give me my money back!! She handed me four dollars for what I did not order... But she continued to argue with me and refused to give me my money back for that meal. she must have argue with me for a solid five minutes in front of other customers. So sad. I have worked in the food and beverage industry almost my whole life... And the number one thing you do is keep the customer happy. If someone is unhappy or unsatisfied... You fix the problem. Find a solution. You do not argue with them. And you do not refuse to give them their money back. I would not be writing this unless I was completely shocked by her behavior, attitude and how she handled it. Very disappointed. i'm sure the food is great. And I'm sure a lot of you have had great experiences. We truly wanted to support a local hometown business.....but no one deserves to be treated like we were.
