This place is amazing when you dine in-- they have a cool atmosphere and friendly employees, not to mention the great food too. Due to coronavirus, I have been using doordash for my orders and every time I order there is ALWAYS an issue. If it's not one thing, it's something else--missing drink, no sides, wrong drink.. one time I ordered and they only gave me a $11 bag of 1/2 snow crab out of a $60 dinner with everything else completely missing. Still i order though because again, love the food. The low rating is simply because they are careless with their to-go orders and whoever they allow to CONSTANTLY screw up is clueless. read more

I wish i had a review of the food at Sunset Crab, but we didnt get a chance to order anything. There were people dining but it wasnt fully packed, there were some open tables. A hostess greeted us immediately ready to seat us. We were just a party of two, and chose to take an open table on the patio. Once we were sat, we were never approached by any servers at all. I saw 3 separate servers approach every other table on the patio and no one stopped by and said anything to us. After nearly 20 minutes of being totally ignored, we left. So I exclusively checked this place out because of the reviews on Yelp. I only like reviewing a place after I've been to it a couple times because that way I feel like my experience wasn't just a fluke and there's some level of consistency. Atmosphere - it's fairly laid back and they have some televisions playing whatever sports game is on. The outdoor patio seems like a good place to dine if it isn't too hot or cold. Even for just a couple of appetizers and beer it seems like a good neighborhood joint. Food - So I've had their shrimp, crab and sausage boil seasoned with half Cajun and half garlic, good choice on my part if I do say so myself, and it was amazingly good. Shrimp is shrimp and crab is crab, I feel like it's hard to mess this up unless you overcook it but the seasoning they use is really good; top this off with a few beers and your golden... Service - this is why I knocked this place down a star, I came here and stood up front for a couple minutes (no one greeted or said they'd be with me in a minute) and we were finally told after a bit they we can sit where'd we like. After about 10 minutes someone comes to our table and takes our drink orders. The delivery of both the food and drinks were good. However, something I found very confusing was when I asked for the crab crusher tool or even that little fork they give you when eating crab, it took about 20 minutes for them to "find one". I just find it a little weird that a crab shack has a hard time finding crab eating utensils. Outside of these couple things the place was great, they seemed understaffed and somewhat new, still trying to get into the swing of things. The fried oysters had too much batter and most of the oysters were burnt. We ordered 1lb of shrimp with 1/2lb of sausage with the Sunset sauce. The sauce had a faint cayenne flavor with a little heat. I was kind of disappointed because the gravy like texture lacked flavor. However, the shrimp and sausages were delicious. is a place where you can go and hangout with friends and get some great food, food is great, but the service is another story , the waitress took forever to bring what we needed, like salt, lemons, another drink. after I asked three people for the salt I just decided to send my granddaughter to go and ask for it, they still made her wait for at least 5 minutes.. there was one guy that was cleaning the tables and vaping, sagging and his headphones on so he couldn't hear what we were asking him, had to tap him so he can give me a to go box. Yummy snow crab and king crab! Very fast service! The everything flavor is kind of wild and I probably wouldn't get it again as a preference. Also something to note, the lowest level of spicy had me sweating and I eat spicy food all the time! I wasn't ready but once the heat set in it was perfect! Long story short: Great food...Bad service(At least Franco was a bad server) Long story long: Was craving seafood and was in an area close by so we decided to check it out. Once we arrived I looked on yelp to see pictures of the food and everything looked great. Once we sat down and got menus from our server it took him over 5 minutes to get our drink orders. Okay not that big of a deal I get it, once he comes back with our drinks we were pretty much ready to order but we had a quick question; My mom is allergic to gluten and corn and wanted to know if the fries were fresh cut or frozen and had a wheat coating like most frozen fries. He said he didn't know and had to ask the kitchen, okay also no problem. This is where the service got SO BAD He returns about 10 MINUTES LATER and says that the only thing coated in wheat or corn is the catfish, so my mom orders lemon pepper wings and fries and I order 1lb of snow crab with the sunset sauce, spice level: Hot And I ask for a drink menu because we see everyone around us with drinks but he never suggested any drinks to us and we don't see and alcohol drinks on the menu. 20 minutes later still no drink menu and or server FRANO ( in all caps so you know who NOT to sit with) brings out my crab legs and my moms fries. Looking at them you can immediately tell they have a wheat coating on them so my mom can't eat them.(If you're wondering what I mean by "wheat coating" think Popeyes fries) After dropping off the food he just runs off and doesn't stop to see if everything looks okay. We get ahold to him about over 5 minutes later to tell him the fries do have wheat so she can't eat them and I ask AGAIN for a drink menu for my mom. My moms wings come out and they look great and he finally brings a drink menu after we have all our food, he dashes off again before I can ask for limes and a bib that literally everyone in the restaurant has but me. I start eating anyway and we see him about 10 minutes later and he's running food and I ask him once you finish could you please come over. He says "well what do you need" I say limes and a bib. At this point I think he can tell we're getting a bit irritated with him so I think he tries to step it up a bit but it's kinda too late because the only thing left is the check. And of course we finish eating and wait a while and eventually have to flag him down for the check. He takes forever of course, and just like Franco, he drops it and runs. Of course the check is wrong and has the fries on it that we took off so we have to flag him down and wait for the correct bill. -Bottom line is- Franco was less of a server and more of a food runner. He ran the food then ran away. He didn't suggest drinks or appetizers and he could have made way more money had he done so. our server did not care about us or our experience even a little bit. He didn't take the time to make sure we got anything we literally had to ask for everything. My mom asked me how I rated the food and I said I couldn't give her an honest answer because the service was so bad. I don't know if it's because he just assumed we would give him a bad tip or because he's simply just a bad server but the service was worse than a gas station. We tipped him pretty good even though he was awful. Franco didn't even tell us his name we had to ask another server then check our receipt. He just seemed uninterested in us and acted like he had better things to worry about. I've visited this place the weekend before Mardi Gras. Apparently, this place is usually BYOB but on this particular weekend they were actually selling bottled beers. We ordered the number four combination of shrimp, Crab and sausage With the Cajun hot seasoning. I must say that the service was a bit slow at first but the waitress was very attentive after we got our food. I'll say that overall the food exceeded my expectations and the hot Cajun flavor was just the right amount of heat. I am very sad to say this, but the crawfish was absolutely disgusting. The crawfish tasted like it had been dead for a few days then cooked and tossed in thick powdery sauce. I don't know, if they know that cooking live crawfish is how it's suppose to be done........ And the fact that the crawfish was very very very tiny was also sad. The season this year for crawfish has been pretty good. Every where else has really good size even giant size crawfish and for the same price of 8.99 that this place was charging. I know Crabstation in Arlington has good size crawfish for 8.99 and even offered buy 5lb get one free. I literally got crawfish there on Friday. I also have been purchasing live crawfish myself and have been cooking it at home and received some big size crawfish. The only reason I came to this place yesterday was due to me being lazy to cook or drive out to Arlington since I live in Oak Cliff. I would definately not recommend anyone to purchase the crawfish here at least not this season, or until they can provide fresh live crawfish to cook. read more

The night we were there crawfish was way too high to tear them up, so we did crawfish, crab legs, shrimp (heads on) & potatoes and corn. I had the sunset bang, with diablo heat level.... Went in today for dinner around 6ish pm. It's a Byob limited 4 for each person I believe. We dine in inside it was pretty hot inside smh super warm. Not sure if the Ac was out and not working. Food was delicious a bit pricey. Dianna out waitress was awesome very friendly and always checking up on us making sure we were doing good and didn't need anything else.
