My husband and I have purchased a total of three cars from this dealership. Cory is the best.

DO NOT BUY HERE Where to begin (this is a long one), as an overview over the last 11 months I have experienced the following on a brand new 2025 Ford Explorer. 1. Lemon Car Buy-Back- the brand new 2025 Explorer was so badly manufactured that after driving it less then 9K miles put on it, they had to replace the fuel line, multiple sensors and rewire the car. All of this took around 6 weeks. This is on top of the multiple issues with the car starting, dash and nav going out while driving it and multiple other issues. 2. Insulting Lemon Car Buy-Back Offer- Per the law Ford is required to buy this car back, or at least make an offer too. When Ford did make their offers, they were both insulting, requiring me to pay money out of pocket to return this Lemon. There is zero reason why I should have to come out of pocket money when I have had nothing but issues with this car, making loan payments for nearly two months while it was in the shop correcting this very poorly manufactured car, on top of nonstop having to bring the car in, interrupting my work, having to take time off on 3-4 occasions to address this issue. 3. Botched paperwork- on 2-3 different occasions the week following the purchase I was called back to the dealership bc they gave me the wrong paperwork as well as the wrong tax check. 4. Service Department- in Sept I got a chip in my wind shield, I called the dealer service department to see if they did these windshield bc it has that special Ford design on it that I was hoping to have replaced with like kind. The lady in the service department said they did (or had a referral partner that did) but needed to check with them and that she would call me back. I never got that call back from her. 5. Possible Title Fr*ud- after purchasing the brand-new Ford, I went to title the vehicle and couldn't bc Ford Finance was not listed as the lien holder. It turns out someone, an individual was listed as the lien holder, no one could figure out how that happened. They would have had to be sitting in the dealership or work at the dealership to know I was even buying a car, bc the next day the lien was filed, a little too ironic. It required me to hire an Attorney ($1,200 fee) to sue the Department of Revenue to correct the issue. It turns out the person that was listed on the lien holder passed away in 2021. How in the world does a dead person file a lien the day after I purchased the car...as if he was in the dealership hanging out listening to me provide my info for financing.....interesting. My Attorney said this could have been a fr*ud attempt. This took 11 months to finally get my title work...WOW SUNSET!! I walked into this dealership 11 months ago when I decided to trade my perfectly fine 2018 Explorer in for a new one due to miles getting up there and I use my car a lot for work, so I needed something brand new so I wouldn't have to think about reliability. As you can see from above the "customer journey" through this dealership, Ford and everything I have been through over the last 11 month has been nothing but a very negative experience that I wouldn't wish upon anyone. I have been through such significant stress and loss of money over this experience. And contemplating getting my attorney involved again. Sunset and Ford- people come to you looking for a great experience and a reliable car and this has been the opposite of that. You should be ashamed that you are taking advantage of people, proving horrible experience, botched paperwork and nonstop issues on a brand-new car that shouldn't have any issue. The service manager Nick Ellison refused to repair my AC system after the shop broke a part trying to disassemble the rear system lines to repair the freon leak. I refused to pay $6000.00 to repair something that Sunset's service department broke leaving me with a $536.47 labor cost and an inoperable AC unit right before summer. My service advisor Kyle Lohmeyer tried everything that he could to get my issues corrected and apologized for things being left the way that Nick left them. I bought my truck from here a couple years ago and had to bring it in for recall related problems. Even just the check in process was ridiculous. I scheduled the service in advance and no one was of help when walking in. After I finally got it checked in they gave no rental car. They didnt even look at my truck for several days and continously gave deadlines that kept slipping, along with parts that needed to be ordered. They wouldn't even give a rental until I reminded them that the recall warranty covered it. Once I got the truck back they called me to come back and have it serviced again because the recall they said they did, they actually didn't do it and now Ford wouldn't reimburse them until it was. I was told it would be a quick 30 minute in and out which then turned into a 2 hour wait with absolutely zero inconvenience compensation. I will not be back to this dealer and will actively tell others to avoid it. They will happily waste your time and expect you to just accept it, even if you were a customer of theirs getting that vehicle serviced in the same dealership. AVOID AND GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! read more

I had talked to other dealers (and was lied too by others) so when I went to Sunset I was so shocked that they were not pushy and they had a tremendous selection. Although they couldn't match the phantom price from the other dealers, they were straight up front about it. I would definitely recommend Eddie @ Sunset Ford! read more

Brought my 2017 f-150 in to have the starter replaced. Tech Asked what the symptoms were so I described them to him thinking he'll get it to a mechanic in a day or so. Shocked when he told me I had to have a diagnostic appointment before a mechanic could be assigned this requested repair. Ok ...... when could I get an appointment to diagnose the issue I just wanted repaired? SIX WEEKS !!! A diagnostic appointment for an issue that won't register a fault, for the repair I wanted and needed quickly. Sorry he said. You can just leave it and we'll see when we can look at it. It's my work truck and I can't be without it. Sorry. I told him the issue is getting worse by the day and could leave me stranded in a day or so. I need this repair. Sorry. Maybe you could call our store in Columbia, I'll. and see if they can get it in sooner. i called their other store and no one answered the phone - mid afternoon so I left a message describing my situation. Three days later before i got a return call. So, frustrated beyond beyond my normal capacity, I left and stopped by a shop nearby on Lindbergh, and understanding that most shops are busy. I would have to wait for an appointment anyway. Surprise, surprise. After describing what I needed, the owner got me in the next morning and I was on my way in a day. No diagnostic session needed. I big thank you to Breuer's Auto Service. They have a new customer for sure. Sadly, this wasn't the only bad service department experience that I've had at this dealership. Sold me a 3 year old used truck with a 4 month 4K mile warranty. Was having some issues about 2 months in so I took it in. They said they couldn't look at it for 2 months and if I was over the mileage limit in two months I'm going to be out of luck and it won't be covered. Shortly after my truck started leaking oil out of nowhere and completely ruined my driveway. I took the truck to my mechanic and turns out the part I need is on national back order and he has no idea when it will come in. I need my truck in order to earn a living so now I'm out of work for an indefinite amount of time. Highly recommend no one buys a ford truck. After reading my review the Service Director did reach out to me, and after a lengthy communication back and forth, refunded us the cost of the battery we had to replace due to the time our vehicle spent sitting on the lot. Update 1: This is day 2 that I have yet to receive requested maintenance records from Sunset Ford to submit to my Warranty Company. I'm guessing that the Erin chick is still not able to leave her desk as she told me on the morning of 03/07/2023? All I asked for was an email to be sent to me, nothing fancy. I even contacted 2 managers and left voicemails about my experience but have yet to receive any type of response. Just recently there was a JAMES H who had responded with remorse of my experience and said that I could contact him personally to discuss the issue. I called the number he provided and the name on the voicemail wasn't James, it was Justin! WTF is going on with customer service now a days? I'm sure this JAMES H person was hired for damage control, but this business (SUNSET FORD) wouldn't need damage control if they handled business differently and stop blowing off the customer with lies and laziness! Purchased a vehicle from Sunset Ford in December 2023. As part of the purchased, they claimed they had to collect out of State Sales Tax and plate registration fees for legal reasons. After an error was discovered in the purchase price, they refused to correct the contract causing an over payment of sales tax to the state. Additionally, they over collected from me on behalf of the state and refused to return the over payment, as well as late fees because their contractor filed the paperwork late. I figured they would screw it up, but not keep money not due them. read more

Sunset Ford has a history of dishonest conduct with me in the service department as the last two times I used them for service, the service reps and mechanics lied and got caught. Their solution is to lie, when caught, apologize and make up excuses and then continue to lie. I would highly recommend you stay far away from the Sunset Ford Service Dept. and use a locally owned mechanic who cares about their reputation. I would also recommend you not complete any surveys they send after the service because they appear to be manipulative appearing like they are coming from Ford national or worldwide to ensure good customer service to improve the bad reputation Ford Dealerships have earned lately for service. Several years we stopped servicing our Ford at Sunset Ford after the warranty expired and I caught the mechanic and service rep lying about a transmission leak. We obtained 2 other estimates and there was nothing wrong but both mechanics said whoever changed the oil sprayed oil all over the engine to possibly make it appear there were leaks. I was hoping things would have changed over the years because we like Ford products so I decided to try Sunset Ford Service department again with our brand new Ford's 1st oil change and tire rotation. I regret it and wish I would have read all of the bad reviews. 1-24-24, I called to book an oil change and tire rotation and it took over 2 weeks to get on the schedule - 2-9-24. I was told it would take 1-2 hours to do the service but it took all day with no follow up. I called at 4:00 pm to check status. The rep called back at 4:30 pm saying they were finishing up the job and it would be ready soon. The guy that drove me to and frome the dealership was friendly and kind. After checking out, we noticed Sunset Ford Service Dept did not rotate the tires and then lied about it. We always mark our tires due to unethical mechanics in the past and experts advising to always mark your tires due to this common practice with unethical service shops in the business. The mechanic insisted that he rotated the tires when asked. When I told him we marked the tires and they had not been rotated, he then claimed to have missed doing it due to being so busy. I was told their computer system was brand new which is why it took all day. They only had 1 mechanic because the other mechanic walked out the week before. I did not receive the "Vehicle Health Report" and had to ask for it. I was told by Ford Service Rep Leah Hummell that they are not giving them out anymore as that uses too much paper. I received no free car wash token and the vehicle was parked a long distance from the front door the prices have skyrocketed. We received a survey from Elena Ford making it appear there was a national Ford organiziation overseeing all Ford Dealerships to ensure good, honest service so I informed them what occurred. The survey asked if I was writing reviews on Google. I was not planning to until I received an email from "Danny" who apologized with the excuse "the mechanic was new" and then email disappeared after I read it. Then I received a survey asking if I was satisfied with their response. I responded that I am not satisfied as I asked to hear from the National Organization Elena Ford works for but was ignored. Having a new mechanic is no excuse as that alone should require a service manager overseeing that he is doing the work. Sunset Ford uses many different emails and their entire "system" is confusing. Furthermore, the survey system for Sunset Ford appears shady and manipulative. Sunset Ford uses confusion techniques to confuse customers in my opinion, where they go by Sunset Auto Co, LLC as well as Sunset Ford Service. I received various emails you can't respond to and the ones that matter disappear. I doubt the survey actually came from Elena Ford, the Chief Customer Experience Officer, but I would love to hear from her so I can tell her what happened. I will not hold my breath and may try to contact her on my own as this entire experience reflects deep issues with Ford Service Departments in St Louis. To make matters even worse, they must sell your phone numbers and email information because I have received tons of phone calls since that experience, from phone numbers I don't recognize. Apparantly, Sunset Ford can sell your private information and you have to "opt out" of it by clicking a link on their survey which is in very small writing on the last page. I do not recommend Sunset Ford Service Department in Sunset Hills, MO as they are unethical and dishonest in my experience and refuse to take responsibility or change their practice. read more

I'm always skeptical of car salesmen and car dealerships. That being said, I can't even begin to tell you what a good experience I had at Sunset Ford while buying my new Ford Escape. First of all my salesperson Brad was attentive without being annoying and knew answers to almost my questions. If he didn't know the answer, he admitted it and found out the answer for me. I felt that he was more interested in what was best for me and not just focusing on getting a commission for the sale. I felt like he really cared and was looking out for my best interests. Everyone was pleasant and smiling and easy to work with. I was very happy with the ease of the entire experience. Additionally, Larry Sidberry, the manager was extremely easy going and again was looking out for my best interests. He was very intuitive and made me feel at ease while taking care of the paperwork. He's a true professional and clearly knows customers service. I can see why the salespeople enjoy working here with it for him. Overall, I was extremely pleased with my car buying experience here at Sunset Ford and would give them my highest recommendation. Bravo! read more

Took for 2 recalls. No courtousy car but instead of 1 day of work it's 2 days and wanted me to pay $30 a day for a rental.

Brought car in for recall work and got thr transmission fluid flushed and filled along with an alignment. Left shop transmission fluid leaked out while driving causing vehicle to slam in and out if gear violently. Called they towed it in and fixed a seal that was torn on reinstalling trans lines. Got car back and trans kicked out of gear again slamming violently. They towed it in again. The slamming caused the ring that holds the clutch pack to come off destroying my transmission. They offered to put a junkyard transmission in with no warrenty. I want the transmission They destroyed rebuilt with a warranty they want me to pay $1300 to get the rebuild instead of putting a unknown condition trans in with no warrenty. My transmission had no problems before this happened and they just don't want to make this right. read more

We could not be more satisfied with the service we received at Sunset Ford! I originally planned to buy a car from CarMax or Carvana. I don't like negotiating or the whole "sales game" car dealerships often play. My mom convinced me to go check out a dealership just to see what they had. Sunset was the first dealership we visited, and we were so happy we purchased a 2020 Ford Escape right then. They made us feel comfortable and taken care. I loved that no one was pushy or pressured us. They showed us a ton of vehicles and gave us any answers or support we needed, but ultimately went with what WE wanted instead of what they wanted to sell (like some dealerships). From sales to financing, the entire team took the best care of us. I will never close the deal till Sunset again when it comes to my car purchases (see what I did there ;)) read more

Cory Pupillo, car salesman, is a liar and snake. Cory claims to be honest and trustworthy but his actions show otherwise. This is a person who claims to be a man of God and that's why he is honest. Don't believe that. He will quote you a price then go against his word. When he describes former buyers or those who traded in their vehicles. He refers to them as the old woman or the old folks. Where is the respect to the customers? You have a job because of those old folks! He claims he only makes $125 for commission, but under the same breath he announces that his kids are going to eat well tonight. Don't trust them. Phoned two days ago to inquire about a vehicle I was interested in purchasing. When trying to negotiate a price I ended up getting an earful of profanity. Chad said he would call me back but never did. Not a man of his word. The vehicle in question was a high end vehicle, a 2020 Lexus LX570. Perhaps Ford people just don't know how to talk to Lexus people. But then who does like to be insulted. read more

It's been a couple of weeks since my last update of this review. Mr. Heutel did reach out to me, the conversation was amicable. He did not have much to refute what happened with our experience there. I'll say he at least did reach out about finding out what went on. That said my opinion has not changed. He offered no real solutions or even try to make up for the way we were treated. I will not be returning to this business or any affiliate of theirs. Again, I would caution anyone about doing business with them. They can get away with how they do business now, times are good. But hard times will come again, they always do. That's when people will remember and will have a better choice. That's when this business that use to be good will go the way of so many others that decided to make short term gains instead of long term relationships. This review is specifically for the service department. I've actually only taken my car to the dealership for an oil change once (for the first free one) for the 3 years I've owned it. I've gone somewhere else all the other times. I called them about a week and a half ago for a safety recall and went ahead and made an appointment for my oil change as well. The lady over the phone told me that it would be about $60 for a synthetic oil change. Sounded reasonable so I booked it. I went in today and found their service department to be quite large, 3 lanes, no waiting, several kiosks to check in so they can get the vehicle work started immediately. They have a fairly large waiting area with ample seating and a TV, a few desks if you need to do some work on your laptop or just need a desk for whatever, and a coffee machine. It took about an hour to get the work done. The gentleman helping me initially came and got me afterwards and explained all the checks they've done, etc. He was a very pleasant gentleman from the start of the service to the time it ended. Also, they gave me a breakdown of the service and a free car wash coupon good for 14 days. I didn't get the car wash today. The total was $53.53 which is cheaper than what I used to pay for an oil change. I was very pleasantly surprised and certainly can't complain. Service was very pleasant. This place will rip you off. I ordered from thier websit a rocker pannel prepainted, they chared extra shipping and I accepted. Then they sent an uppainted part telling me the painted one would not fit my vehicle based on Vin Number. This is a scam to charge more for a non painted part like they intend to ship regardless what they show on thier sight. Buyer beware, the make out with the extra shipping even when you pay to have the part returned. read more

I needed an oil change and was told they weren't taking appointments, but just putting people on a call list. They said it would be at least 4 weeks though. I was able to get a next day appointment at Frank Leta Acura where they found a part needs to be fixed, but it's covered under a warranty because our car is less than a year old. Of course when I call Sunset Hills Ford to get this fixed, I am again told I will be put on a wait list, which I put my name on...in May. When I called to check in today (now we are in late July) I was told it will likely be another 3 weeks or more, which blows my mind. read more

I recently decided to purchase a full-size pickup. I've always been a Chevy girl but that was mostly due to the discount I get on a new GM vehicle and blind loyalty. My dad worked for GM but he liked Fords as well. My best friend is a master mechanic and swears by Ford so after looking at how expensive Silverados were, I decided to look at some other domestic trucks. I found a 2012 F-150 King Ranch on Sunset's website and have always like this body style so I went by for a look. I was pleasantly surprised at how well I was treated and how great the experience was. Keith Boerding was the salesperson who assisted me. He was knowledgeable, truthful and didn't pressure me. The truck was freshly traded in when I first saw it on a rack in the shop but I test drove it the following Tuesday (this was a Saturday) and put a deposit on the truck to hold it while I thought about it. I looked far and wide (I really did!) and couldn't find anything to match this truck so I purchased it. Keith stood behind the purchase and when I found the emergency brake to be out of adjustment he asked me to bring it back for a look. He escorted it to the shop and helped me make an appointment to bring the truck in for service. He made sure it was safe for me to drive while I waited for my appointment date and personally paid for a rental car for me so I didn't have to spend my day off in the waiting area while the e-brake was being serviced. I've never been treated so valued by a GM dealership and I think I'm a Ford convert. My 23 year-old son went back to Keith two weeks later and purchased his first newer car, a 2017 Fusion. We will be back the next time we want to purchase a vehicle for sure! He loves his car and I love my truck! read more

Originally this would have started as an overall 1 however Sunset Ford went above and beyond to help me with my car. I purchased a 2013 C-Max from sunset Ford. To be even more precise it was from the fantastic salesman named Mike in the small used sales building. The car is fantastic, and everything I want in a car. However there is a fault with the vehicles and it's called the APIM. Which can effectively shutdown the entire center console and the system that controls the USB ports to charge your phone. Which if I still lived in my hometown I wouldn't be concerned because I don't need any form of navigation to get around, however there are only two places in the St. Louis area that I can get to and from without GPS. With the navigation system out and the ability to charge my phone gone, I was quickly draining the battery of my phone and then would get lost, at one point for almost two hours. I took the vehicle to Sunset Ford to have them work on the vehicle, which the repair was covered under a service action from Ford because they knew the device was faulty when they made the car (there was a class action lawsuit and everything). I explained my problem to Ford that the dealer needed to keep the car because they needed to order the part for it and that I needed a loaner car in the interim. Ford declined stating the repair is only 1/2 day (which if everyone had parts laying around then I guess there's a chance- but most places don't). After all this the dealership offered me a rental car out of their cost, which is something they didn't have to do, but that they did do. So this review basically says that Ford Motor Company deserves one star for passing their problems onto the dealers and not taking responsibility for their own mistakes. Sunset Ford on the other hand deserves 6 stars, but sadly I can only give them 5. Thank you Sunset Ford for going above and beyond and providing Heroic Service. I have called up to simply see where my vehicle was that was in for service and every individual I have talked to has no clue where my vehicle is at currently. Had my 1st service since buying a brand new F150 The oil change and tire rotation were fine. My issue is Slow service to drop off and pick up my vehicle Plus No complimentary car wash or vacuum My girlfriend has a new Honda, when she gets an oil change the dealership washes and vacuums the car My parents have a new Nissan, when they get an oil change they get a complimentary wash and vacuum But after buying a 40k+ ford the ford dealerships doesn't do washes or vacuum with the overpriced oil change....just a bit disappointing that ford doesn't do what other dealers do. Obviously I can afford a car wash, thats not the point...but when every other dealership seems to give some complimentary perks it's sad that sunset ford doesn't. :( read more

Came back to sell my fully loaded 17' Explorer (every package selected). It's a great vehicle but wife just bought a new SUV which allows me to go back to a sports car. However, this Ford location offered me the lowest quote out of anyone in the area at $28,500 (KBB: 34K). I was pretty disappointed as I bought my Mustang from here 9 years ago and my Explorer from here 2 years ago. I expected more customer respect, loyalty, and appreciation.
