Went to The Sunset Grill last night for a burger and listen to some music. We sat outside, very muggy but the large glass of ice water and my own little fan helped. I got the kids cheeseburger and my fiancé got the regular size we both loved them and the french fries seemed like fresh cut in house. This place never dissapoints and they have some great weekly specials I would like to try overnight. We have always had attentive waitresses and love that they have live music outdoors every Friday and Sunday. read more

Our impromptu date night brought us to this hidden gem. The building on the outside caused me some doubt, but we ventured in anyways to give it a try. I'm glad we did! We sat outside in the patio and the lake view was spectacular! Our server, Heather, was so sweet and kind. She was new, but so easy to talk to and very helpful! We had the Thai Chicken Wrap for an appetizer and we were pleasantly surprised with how delicious it was! I had the Cobb Salad and it was so fresh! It's fine... If you're planning on outdoors eating or cocktails and it's raining a little bit and you believe that there are covered for outdoors seating... you will sadly be disappointed because there's not much overhead... we came today to watch some live music on their patio on a nice summer day. Had a few drinks, did not even know they offer happy hour on a Sunday but were pleasantly surprised with the cost. ordered the Trio Dip which was Buffalo chicken, Queso and spinach artichoke. All three of the dips were creamy and delicious! Maybe actually the best dips I have ever had (only drawback was not enough chips) we still had cheese dips but ran out of the tortilla chips, I wanted to lick the spoon it was so good. Great place to listen to live music and watch the sun go down over the lake. We stopped in for a bloody mary and breakfast. The food was good. We had kitchen sink hash and eggs benedicto with queso and american breakfast potatoes. Their bloody mary is pretty good, not too bland or too spicy. The olives and pickle were good quality and the bloody mary mix was great. Comes with a beer chaser too. Only recommendation for improvement would be faster service. It was getting pretty busy and the wait staff were only the bartender and one waitress. We would go back again sometime. read more

My Thai Chicken Lettuce Wraps were excellent! Spicy sauce included for dipping! Wonderful for my entree! My friend had the Chicken Tenders that were really overbreaded and oily. I have never been treated so rudely in a restaurant before. My sister was celebrating her 80th birthday with friends at the Sunset Grill's Sunday brunch. Both she and I had called earlier in the week to confirm that we could set up tables for the 20-25 people we expected. They wanted us to pay $1200 to rent their downstairs but we said we'd all be partaking of the brunch and needed to be upstairs. The manager approved our plan to each of us. He apparently failed to tell his staff of our reservation because we were met with resistance at every turn. I waited tables for years in the past and know of the concern for table turnover by servers. I assured them we would tip well and even offered to wash tables and set our silverware to limit our imposition. Instead, I got surly looks and comments that we couldn't use so many tables because of their "rush" for brunch patrons and that we couldn't keep people waiting. I would understand if there had been anyone in line, but at no time were people waiting and throughout our party there were 4-5 tables and/or booths open for new arrivals. We were made to feel like criminals costing them their livelihoods! I was given a glass of water at the outset and never again approached. None of the tables were given silverware or napkins in the waitstaff's passive-aggressive attempt to let us know we were not welcome. One server even snapped at a party guest who had nothing to do with what was going on with the guest list. Their negative energy and in-our-faces rudeness cast a pall over the celebration and we left as soon as we could, bringing the cake and presents back to my sister's house rather than stay there a moment longer. Even after this mistreatment, we all still left tips as I'd promised though it galled me personally to have to. read more

Our troubles began when I arrived the restaurant to pick up our online order. They said they had not received our online order. The Sunset Grill insisted it was because we did not use the correct ordering system. We had used Grubhub via Yelp and this blew their mind. The manager kept saying, "We don't use Yelp for ordering; only Grubhub. You couldn't have placed an order." Fine. Whatever. So I placed an order in person and was told it would take about 45 minutes because they were busy. Hockey kids and their families had descended into the place and they were short staffed. Fine. Whatever. What's another 45 minutes? I wait. My order arrives. I grab it and head home. I get home, distribute the food containers to my starving family. As we open our boxes, we discover each box is missing something -- eggs or breakfast meat. I call the Sunset Grill and speak to the same "manager" I dealt with at the restaurant. He tries to reassure me that he inspected each box and each order was complete. He first implies that I'm just not seeing everything, then implies that I am lying, then tries to tell me the breakfasts don't come with the items we're missing. When I read to him what their menu says, he shouts, "Fine! I'll refund your money!" and hangs up. Still have received a refund and had to dispute the charge with my credit cards company. read more

Pretty good here for lunch today with a large group (18+). My Smothered Prime Sandwich was exactly that: nice hand sliced prime rib smothered in grilled onions, mushrooms and cheese. My friend and I decided we'd give Sunset a try since we'd never been and it was close enough to both our homes. The restaurant is set right on the water which had a great view with the fall colors. The place was clean and lots of space. The waitress was a bit short with us - not rude really but not kind either although she did warm up towards the end. The place definitely wasn't busy so perhaps she was having a bad day. I ordered a cheeseburger and fries. It didn't come with a lettuce, onion and tomato so I'm glad I asked for it. My food was basic. It filled my belly but nothing to suggest to anyone. My friend had the club sandwich and fries. She said she liked it. I'm not sure I'd return for the burger again but I might try the chicken pot pie dish or perhaps a breakfast dish. The view...that I'd return for on a nice summer day. read more

We met a group from the Y here for lunch. They were able to take a group of about 20. It was quite busy, we didn't know they were having a meat raffle and bingo today. Not bad. My husband heard about this place from so co-workers. Have only been here a handful of times for breakfast which they serve up pretty well. Food ordered: Sunrise breakfasts with cheesy potatoes. The cheesy potatoes are worth the drive and are really good. They are not too cheesy and just taste really good. Also ordered the mickey cake which had an old tasting flavor to it. Threw most of it away. It just didn't taste like a fresh pancake. Service is also hit and miss. Great spot! Perfect patio for the summer with a great view overlooking a small pond. Away from the highway so not noisy at all. The food is pretty good for bar food, very basic selection. Sissy and I wanted to try a new place tonight. We were here once before... when it was Laddie Lake Pub. New owners purchased it and remodeled last summer. Glad to see they kept the booths near the windows. Must be pretty to look at the lake or view a sunset. The sidewalk appeal hasn't changed. Looks like a dump but it's a diamond in the rough when you get inside. Love the wood decor with twinkle light accents. Makes it feel warm and inviting. Besides booths, there are high tops and regular tables, seating either 4 or 6. Along with a full bar. Lots of tvs to watch sports. 5 tvs above the bar and no duplicate shows! Service and food was fast. Food was good, okay, satisfactory. We left with full tummies. Waitress was friendly and efficient. I ordered the Chicken Ranch Sandwich. Didn't really taste any ranch. There was a white sauce that was dripping as I held it but didn't have over the top ranch flavoring. The pico was good. Avocado was too firm!! Loved the Parmesan Truffle Flats! Now this were good! Think a skinny steak fries with salty grated cheese. I also liked the ciabatta bread it came on. Soft inside but crunchy outside. Sissy had fish and chips. Fish were huge and round. Came with same Parmesan Truffle Flats, tartar sauce and cole slaw. Cole slaw was spicy. Maybe some hidden peppers in there? Would I come back again? Sure. Just to have the flats again! I enjoyed a lunch and game of bingo at Sunset Grill. The food, presentation and service were all good. Bingo was called pleasantly with adequate volume but not overwhelming. We needed breakfast on Sunday and needed it now! Had been to/by a couple other places that were too busy so decided to give it a go. The remodel is nice from the previous dark ambience. Seat yourself and greeted right away. It really got busy shortly after we arrived but staff kept up with the pace. There was a breakfast buffet but at $18 more than we were looking for so looked over the menu with many options and decided on biscuits and gravy came with 2 eggs and hash browns for $10 and it was very good biscuits were a little hard/dry but very flavorful we would return again maybe for supper next time. read more

They're in a weird, semi-industrial type area on the frontage road. The whole place has an unpretentious, low-key, trendy cabin type vibe. We tried 3 starters and 2 meals. The meals ranged from just okay to very good. The service was excellent. I particularly liked the creamy Philly Cheese Steak Soup and the Blistered Green Beans with the Bourbon Bacon Jam. I was REALLY looking forward to the Smoked Gouda Bacon Mac (with chicken on top). But it was way too dry & short on sauce and I was left disappointed. It was mostly a heap of noodles with some stuff on the bottom. This one could be great if they weren't so skimpy with the cheese sauce. Everything else was okay. Even though they're in a weird location, they have a back deck that overlooks the lake. It's a killer view. It would be a great place to hang out in the summer....not so exciting now with all the ice & snow! This building has had a lot of turnover in past years. Wish I could rate the food. Me and my two kids came for breakfast on Sunday, Oct 29th. The seating sign reads to seat yourself, but only at a table that is "clean and set". We circled the small restaurant and there were about 7 dirty tables and booths. Nothing clean. We went back near the entryway to wait, but still very visible to all staff- bartender, servers, and the kid behind the omelet station. On several occasions a server would go to a table, pick up a couple glasses, but not clear it completely, wipe it or set it up. The kid at the omelet station was doing nothing, just standing there. No one came to him for an omelet. The bartender came out to bring her dirty dishes from the bar to the kitchen. They all saw us, not one person greeted us. After about 7 minutes of being ignored we left. As we left I believe I heard the bartender saying breakfast was over. It had a small breakfast buffet, but remember the omelet kid was still standing there waiting for orders. And even so- they have a menu. We could have been there for lunch. Stopped to check out the newest restaurant at this location, April 13, 2019. I ordered the prime rib. It was huge and juicy. Looked so good. Couldn't wait to scarf it down. I ordered it medium well, as to not get such a red middle. It was quite red and rare, looked like rare. I sent it back. Came back looking better. A couple of cuts into, still very red and rare. It even tasted rare. Instead of sending it back a third time, I had it put in a box and I'll just take it home to cook it up myself. Obviously someone in the kitchen doesn't know how to cook! I enjoyed the bartender, always had a smile on her face. She gave great service seeing by myself plus I am 72. Most wait staff at other restaurant would not be as attentive as this bartender. She was Great. The lady in the pull tab booth was a blast. The reason for the 4 rating is based on my meal. I ordered a Rib-eye Steak. The steak was a nice cut if meat. It came out as I had asked for (medium rare) But the steak had no favor to it, that was a shame. I have had some great burgers in the past. The Bartender's are great. The girl serving us was horribly rude and would walk behind a wall and start talking crap about every paying customer there while everyone can hear her. Update to the time I played purse bingo in 2020. At the end of 2020 I played purse bingo again and I had bingo on the first game and it happened again (I was downstairs) they didn't hear from the employee downstairs that there was a bingo and called another number. But this time they honored my bingo being first so I got the purse and the other 2 that bingoed on the 2nd number split money. Which is what they should of done the time before. Great service even with a packed place. All cocktails our party tried were good. Nothing very creative but refreshing. I asked for the lettuce wraps dressing in the side and got that.
