We were visiting from out of town and spent too long at the beach and were scrambling to find something later than normal (for us) on a Sunday- I found this place and decided the pictures looked really good. We ordered two pizzas and the stuffed mushrooms. The place is tiny, my husband missed it the first time he passed by. This is one of the best pizzas I've had in a long time. Quaint ambiance and good service aside, I think people are equally interested in what "Italian" sauces should be. After all, it's the life of the dish (at least from an American's point of view). So to be fair, I haven't eaten here before and just went in on happenstance that they were open past 8pm when everyone else was closing one Monday evening. I was curious about the Spaghetti with marinara only even though they had other Americanized sauce options. I also ordered a large pepperoni pie and a salad with ranch. Later, opened my to-go items up for a taste. My spaghetti was not really what I was expecting as an American - I think that had to do with not being enough sauce or not a strong enough tomato flavor to pair with all the pasta and bread (however it seemed to be particularly heavy with herbs). In my opinion perfecting the sauce and pasta to sauce ratio according to what most American expectations are is where a chef has an opportunity to really distinguish his kitchen with a good reputation. Moving on to the pizza, I think the sauce here was also a rather moot point as well. Be forewarned these flavors are not your typical "Americanized Italian" styles, but are probably reaching for another country's style and taste. And since we're on the subject of "sauces" I can only say, serving only mediocre ranch dressing is to miss another opportunity to keep your customers talking and RETURNING. I know it is possible to love a place for its sauces. I realize that maybe sauces aren't everything, but when a discerning chef gives attention to these details it could make lasting impressions or not. read more

We have been wanting to try this place for a while as we have heard great things. The meat and cheese ravioli are tasty. Their sauce is very flavorful. Pizza looks amazing and yes it tasted awesome, just not my style. This east coast girl likes her traditional New York Style Pizza. This reminded me more of a Chicago Style, not quite deep dish, but very heavy and thick crust, so if that's your jam, I highly recommend it. From the Central Valley we've been coming here for years when in town! We rave to friends about their food as well it has easily became one of their favs!!! We originally stayed at a hotel near by and the receptionist was eating their pizza it smelt so good she recommended it to us! Our family had dinner here tonight for my nieces birthday. We got a recommendation from our hotel and I must say we were NOT led astray! The homey atmosphere and welcoming staff made our experience so enjoyable and the food, oh the food. The obviously fresh made food was incredible! The aroma of garlic is so inviting as you walk in the door and the bread is hot fresh crispy garlicky perfection. I had the spinach tortellini soup that had fresh whole spinach leaves in it and was absolutely fantastic! The bbq chicken pizza was delicious and filling and the hand made crust was some of the best I've ever tasted! I highly recommend this little gem anytime you're in the area!! read more

I love a place like this. Being from the tri-state area I'm generally pretty skeptical of West Coast pizza/Italian spots (I know this probably sounds typical and elitist of me) but the truth is there's just too many options where I grew up that are run by people with direct lineage to Italy, and they're all competing with each other, and that creates an environment for incredible food. It's simply a cultural aspect to living near NYC. I will say this though. This place made me feel right at home. The staff is extremely helpful, enthusiastic about the menu and very friendly...they actually seem to enjoy working there, and it all seems like one big family. There's sit down seating and bar seating, which surrounds the kitchen area. The chefs were working hard as there were a lot of orders, but they still had time to engage in conversation with the customers and staff. And everyone was talking to each-other in there. It's the kind of experience you might get at a small diner in the Midwest, or in some small neighborhood café in the south where everyone knows each other. Overall I loved everything, the food was delicious and felt very homemade. I'll be back to try some of the other dishes people were recommending to me. read more

We continually return to Sunset Pizza and Pasta as a "go to" for some of the BEST Italian food in this area! With COVID, they have been doing delivery and take out. We've ordered "to go" and they always have our order spot on and there's plenty for 2 meals out of each meal ordered. The leftovers are normally as tasty if not more the second time around! Doesn't matter what you order: the pizza, chicken Parmesan, eggplant, pasta, ravioli...it's consistently good. It's a very small and cozy place on sunset Beach by PCH & 16th st. Mother's Day Sunday we came with our family of 10 in our groups base on my daughter recommendation and reservation and its worked out great . Dennis's was our server she was nice, helpful, and quick to service us especially because we had small children with us. We ordered 2 huge pizzas (pepperoni and ally's Alfredo) and a few pasta dishes. Torts, eggplant parm, calamari and a anti pasta salad plus the pizzas where more than enough to feed our whole family. The pasta was hot and fresh, eggplant parm was tender. The pesto was a great combo of creamy and piny was which I really enjoyed. The restaurant doesn't seat more than 20-30 people so we sort of took over the place when entering. Ok back on topic. We started with the caprese appetizer and the stuffed mushrooms. My mom is spoiled with the burrata salad we had at Old vine cafe, so this caprese salad didn't knock her socks of :( the stuffed mushrooms were tasty but could have been baked in more. I still enjoyed them :) No for the main events. We all ordered pasta dishes even though I wanted pizza. I got sidetracked damn it LOL. I ordered the tortetllini rogata, my sis ordered the cheese stuffed ravoli and mom with lasgna I think LOL. So out comes the food and it was piping hot. My dish was great, I loved the rogata sauce , even my mom was making love to my dish even though it was appeasing to her eye LOL My sisters ravoli was good and I didn't try my mothers dish but she enjoyed hers and was quite envious of our choices. We just had a group lunch at Sunset Pizza and Pasta, after biking 17 miles along the bike path at the beach. It was the first time here for all eight of us and we were pleasantly surprised at how great it was. The restaurant is small but quaint. The service was superb and the food delicious. The abundance of homemade bread for the table was so yummy dipped in olive oil and balsamic. Each of us ordered something different ranging from pasta to pizza to sandwiches. All were happy with their food choice and thought it was quite tasty. I would definitely go back here and recommend it to others. As an added bonus they had a small adjacent parking lot that allowed us to park and still see our bikes on the car racks. So it is great spot if you have bikes or boards you want to keep an eye on. read more
